The press had a field day when it happened. The Director of communications marrying the infamous Malcolm Tucker. Not only that but she was having his baby. She, as well as Malcolm, fronted the press for over a week. They had both expected it. Although one particular headline displeased her.
'The New Mrs Tucker'
Evelyn Shaw, Communications Director for Number 10. Has taken the decision to marry Malcolm Tucker, the man infamously known for a spin doctor and his venomous words in controlling Government. That was until the change of leadership and Evelyn Shaw took over as new Communications Director.
There were constant rumours of a relationship between the pair. To which were quickly downcast.
Questions were quickly asked. Is Malcolm Tucker trying to work his way back into Government? Is Evelyn Shaw looking for a network into the opposition?
It is well known that Tucker's previous marriage ended in fireworks when she had an affair with a Minister, leaving Tucker very suddenly.
Controversy was caused again in January of this year when Mr Tucker was photographed proposing to Evelyn Shaw, however after seemingly accepting, the what seemed like a happy couple were split apart. It is unknown what caused this, but a source confirmed that Tucker ended up in hospital, the reason why was never discovered. But clearly the couple harbour many secrets, and they keep those secrets close.
Evelyn Shaw then made a clear statement. She was having a child. But initially refused to say who the father was. This led to a lot of speculation. But it is only now, when the pair were seen in the registry office was it officially confirmed. And now Evelyn Shaw is the new Mrs Tucker.
So we can only see what will become of our government.
As soon as she read the article, Eve got straight to work. Malcolm had offered his assistance however Eve quickly had the journalist put to sleep, humanely, much to Malcolm's distaste.
Perched at his desk, Malcolm read over the housing report. He knew sacrifices would need to be made. Peeling a fresh tangerine Malcolm sat back in the chair. The tv on mute in the corner as he flicked through the papers.
"Sam. Sam!" Malcolm shouted, tossing the peelings into the bin. Looking to the door, he frowned. Throwing it open wondering where the hell she was. "Sam?" Malcolm walked the corridor, going to her desk which was empty. No note to say she was going out, normally she would tell him. Just as he took out his phone to ring her, he heard his name shouted down the corridor.
"Malcolm!" Sam ran breathlessly towards him.
"Where the fuck have you been?" He asked when she stopped in front of him.
"It's Eve, she's in hospital, she's gone into labour" Sam spoke quickly.
"What!" Malcolm shouted. "She's not due for another two weeks"
"I know, I just spoke to Rachel, her waters broke at home and they rushed to the hospital"
"Fuck!" Malcolm span on his heel, running to his office he wrestled his suit jacket from the back of the chair.
"I'll call you a car" Sam picked up her phone.
"No, that will take fucking forever, I'll run" Malcolm put his glasses in his pocket and looked to Sam, sudden terror filling his body. "Fuckin'ell" He muttered before taking off down the corridor.
"Ohh god where is he!" Eve cried, gripping Rachel's hand with such a force to crush bone.
"He wasn't picking up his phone, I rang Sam, she'll have told him. He's coming" Rachel said quickly as Eve fought another contraction.
"He bloody better be" Eve gritted her teeth before gasping when the pain subsided momentarily, lying back, taking deep breaths she let go of Rachel's hand. Seeing her wince and flex her fingers.
"Sorry Rache" Eve whispered but she shook her head.
"Don't you worry, I'll go try Malcolm again" Rachel quickly left the room, leaving Eve as she ran her hand over her forehead, being covered in sweat.
The door opened but Eve sighed when it was just the doctor, hoping for Malcolm, she'll be damned if he was going to miss this.
"Okay Eve, how are you feeling?" The doctor asked and Eve groaned.
"That's a really stupid question doc...sorry" Eve groaned, feeling another contraction begin. The doctor simply chuckled.
"Let's see how far along you are" Eve sighed, gripping the bed tightly as the doctor measured her. "6 cm, this baby certainly wants to be out. I will come and check you again in ten minutes, hows the pain?" He asked and she shook her head.
"Serious stabbing pains all over my body" Eve whispered.
"Alright, I will sort that out for you" He smiled to her before leaving the room.
Groaning once more, Eve lay back, rubbing her face as she gritted through the pain.
Her contractions came and went for the next ten minutes, the time between each becoming less and less. That was when the door opened again, just as Eve took slow deep breaths.
"You really need to get this out of me doctor" Eve hissed through her teeth.
"Let's see if we can do just that" The doctor moved back to the end of the bed between Eve's legs. "Okay, fully dilated. Time to push" He spoke but Eve shook her head.
"No, Malcolm, my husband, he's not here, I can't, not yet" Eve breathed heavily, gripping the bed so hard her knuckles were white.
"Your baby wants to be out now" The doctor told her.
"Ohh god!" Eve shouted, gritting her teeth as another contraction hit. Suddenly the door flew open, and Malcolm tumbled inside. "Where the fuck have you been?!" Eve shouted at him. Malcolm suddenly looked like a deer in headlights.
"I..." he stuttered, looking to the doctor.
"Malcolm...Malcolm, up here now!" Eve hissed as he froze. "Malcolm!" She shouted and he finally jolted out of his frozen moment. His eyes finally finding Eve's
"Fuck" Malcolm muttered and he moved to Eve's side. "Shit, are you okay?" Panic filled his eyes, very unprepared for this.
"No Malcolm, I'm trying to push a baby out of my fucking vagina!" Eve shouted at him, Malcolm flinched slightly but nodded.
"Stupid question" Malcolm said and he looked to Eve, taking her hand. She squeezed it hard, seeing the grimace on his face but right now, Eve really didn't care, she needed this baby out of her.
After 20 minutes of screaming, shouting and serious swearing Eve gasped as she lay back.
"Oh god I can't do this!" Eve breathed.
"Yes you can, come on you're nearly there" Malcolm encouraged her. Wiping her forehead with a towel. "Come on Eve" He stroked her hand as he kissed her temple. Eve pushed but suddenly the doctor stopped her.
"Okay can we get a theatre ready"
"What...theatre why?" Malcolm shot at the doctor. Eve stopped and looked at the doctor, suddenly looking pale.
"Okay Eve I need you to push big this time, it's going to hurt but it's the final time I promise" Eve stared to him, fear in her eyes and turned to Malcolm, he nodded in support.
"We can do this" he said softly to her, Eve took deep breaths, watching Malcolm and she nodded. Taking a few deep breaths, Eve took a firm grip of Malcolm's hand.
"I'm sorry if I hurt you" Eve whispered to him.
"Don't you even think about it darlin, squeeze as hard as you need to" Malcolm said softly and she nodded, kissing his hand before getting ready.
Eve pushed, pushing with everything she had left. Feeling Malcolm grip her hand tightly as she leaned forwards. Her voice hoarse from shouting. But eventually she stopped, pain searing in her stomach. Not seeing the doctor take the baby away.
"Okay we need to get to theatre now!" The doctor rushed.
Malcolm saw as the baby was born, it was tiny. But the doctor quickly took his child away, handing it off to a nurse. Stepping forwards he froze. It was then that he saw the blood, it was everywhere. Surely that wasn't normal. By the way the doctor was rushing around, he grew concerned, petrified.
"Why is she bleeding, some thing's wrong, what's wrong?" Malcolm fired at the doctor, but he was too busy with the nurses unhooking the wires attached to Eve. Malcolm looked to Eve, seeing she had passed out. "Eve!" he rushed to her but skimmed her hand as she was rushed away. Malcolm followed them out the room running down the corridor but he was stopped just before the theatre.
"You have to wait here" A nurse stopped him and Malcolm froze
"What's going on?" he asked but the nurse only looked at him apologetically.
"I'm sorry sir, the doctor will speak to you when he can" The nurse tried to smile before he left Malcolm. He could only watch the nurse leave before he stared at the door that Eve was taken through.
Malcolm didn't move from the spot for the next hour. Leaning on the wall, willing the door to open. And when it did he jerked forwards.
"Mr Tucker" The doctor held his hands up, Malcolm wanted to question, throw at him the thousands of questions screaming in his mind. "Evelyn has suffered a postpartum hemorrhage, she has lost a great deal of blood. We are currently doing a blood transfusion to get that blood back into her" The doctor explained and Malcolm could only stare.
"Is...is she?" He struggled.
"We are doing everything we can" The doctor said before rushing back inside.
"Everything they can, what the fuck did that mean!" Malcolm wanted to run into that theatre and demand to see her, but he didn't So trying to keep calm, not wanting any fucking episodes himself, he thought back. To that little bundle that was so quickly taken away from them. Walking steadily down the corridor, hesitantly, not really wanting to stray far from the theatre. Malcolm found himself at the maternity ward, looking through the glass at all the newborns. But he didn't see his baby. Glancing over his shoulder when a nurse came towards him.
"Sorry, I'm looking for baby Tucker, born an hour ago. My wife, she had to go into theatre" Malcolm's voice was quiet, out of steam.
"Ah Mr Tucker, of course follow me" The nurse turned and led Malcolm to a much darker quieter private room, being led to an incubator. "Here she is" The nurse whispered. Malcolm stared down into the incubator at the tiny human being.
"Why is she in here?" He asked
"She is very small, she weighs just over four pounds" The nurse explained. Malcolm just gazed, looking at all the wires on her chest.
"Is she okay?" Malcolm asked.
"She's fine, strong and healthy. Would you like to hold her?" She asked and Malcolm held his breath.
"Okay" Insecurity stinging his voice but the nurse just smiled to him. Very gently she lifted the little baby girl as Malcolm sat down, she showed him how to gold her. Malcolm just watched wide eyed. She was fast asleep and so tiny in his arms she could fit comfortably in one hand. Terrified to move in case he broke her. Surely something so serene couldn't belong to him, but here she was, beautiful in his arms. As gently as he could, Malcolm ran his thumb over her cheek, her skin was so soft and warm. He could just look at her forever.
And before he realised, two hours had passed. It was only when the door opened and the doctor walked in that Malcolm looked up, having been listening to her soft breathing.
"Mr Tucker" Malcolm stared at he doctor, trying to read him.
"How is she?" He asked, still daring not to move.
"She's stable, the blood transfusion worked, we want to keep her in for a while, make sure Evelyn is fine before going home." The doctor spoke quietly and Malcolm nodded.
"Good, that's good" He looked back to his daughter.
"You can see her if you'd like. I will get a nurse to bring your daughter to the room" The doctor said as Malcolm placed her back into the incubator.
"Thank you" Malcolm walked out with the doctor, but not before chancing a look back at the tiny baby. His baby.
Being led back to the room Malcolm saw Eve on the bed, still asleep. But she had the colour back in her face. Approaching the bed he reached for her hand, gripping it tightly.
"Eve, Eve I'm here" Malcolm whispered and felt her fingers flex.
"Malcolm?" A tiny voice escaped her lips and she opened her eyes, blinking against the light but she looked at him.
"Hey" He smiled to Eve, kissing her temple. "You scared me then."
"What happened?" Eve asked, searching Malcolm's face
"You lost a lot of blood, you need a transfusion" Malcolm explained.
"Our baby?" Eve panicked but Malcolm smiled
"She's fine, she's fighting fit" Malcolm spoke.
"She..." Eve smiled and looked to the ceiling, a tear running down her cheek. Just as she was about to speak again the door opened and a nurse walked in, with the incubator.
"Here she is, and she's just woken, I think she wants to meet her mummy and daddy" The nurse smiled to both of them and Malcolm helped Eve to sit up. Wincing in pain, but determined, she sat up and took hold of her daughter when the nurse held her out to Eve.
Malcolm smiled, watching Eve and their daughter, perching on the bed he put his arm over eve's shoulders. Gazing down as the little girl opened her eyes, he watched in amazement.
"Look at her Malc" Eve whispered as she held her close.
"I think she deserves a name" Malcolm said as he reached down. Smiling when she wrapped her tiny hand around his finger.
"Sophie?" Eve suggested
"Sophie Tucker, after the red hot mama. No fucking way" Malcolm shook his head. "What about Beth?" He asked and Eve shot him a look of disgust.
"No chance, Jesus Malcolm" Eve screwed up her face.
"I'm joking" Malcolm chuckled and kissed her forehead.
"I like Katherine" Eve said again and Malcolm paused.
"Katherine" He said and looked to the littler one. "Katherine...Katherine Tucker" Malcolm nodded. "It's perfect" He whispered and kissed Eve's temple again.
1 Week Later
"Alright, car is ready to go, I got the seat sorted, with help from Rache, I think it's home time" Malcolm clapped his hands together as he entered the room. Eve was dressed and sat on the best, texting on her phone, taking off her glasses when she finished and stood up.
"Finally" Eve smiled and she slowly stood up. Being careful. Malcolm watched closely and stood nearby just in case but she smiled to him, squeezing his arm. "I will be glad to get home and be out of this hospital, there's nothing like your own bed" Eve said as she slipped her jacket on.
"Too fucking right" Malcolm muttered as he walked over to Katherine.
"Well I did tell you that chair would do you in" Eve said as she fastened up the bags. Malcolm gently placed Katherine into the char seat and picked it up.
"Let's go home" he said but Eve frowned, she was looking at her mobile.
"You didn't tell me the press were outside? And why the fuck would they be interested in me?" Eve questioned and looked to Malcolm for answers.
"You know what they are like, desperate for any shot they can use against us. It was big enough fucking news us getting married. They fucking wet themselves about us having a baby" Malcolm told her and she shook her head.
"Fuck sake" She muttered
"What did you think they would do. Turn a blind eye to the two leading opposites in government hooking up. It's fucking new darlin"
"Yes thank you Malcolm, you don't need to explain how the press works" Eve stated "Come on, let's get it fucking over with" She walked out the door, holding it open for Malcolm as she took step by his side.
"Are you pissed at me now?" he asked her.
"No I'm not pissed at you, I'm pissed at them cunts, that along with stopping them showing the world how fucked the government is, now I have to deal with them on my doorstep as well" Eve answered as she carried the bag but looked down at her sleeping daughter whom Malcolm was carrying.
"Hey, let me deal with the cunts alright." He said to her as they approached the exit. Eve smiled in appreciation and they stepped outside, Malcolm walking in front of Eve leading her to the car.
"How's fatherhood Malcolm?"
"What's it like being an older dad?"
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"What have you named it Evelyn?"
The questions bombarded them but Malcolm opened the car door and fastened Katherine inside as Eve put the bags into the boot.
"Will you be going back to work Evelyn? Or has Stewart Pearson taken over for good?" Eve sighed and looked to the reporters.
"I am on maternity leave so I can look after my daughter. Malcolm will be returning to work in due course and once I have finished maternity leave I will do the same. I have every faith in Stewart Pearson to keep government moving." Eve told them and climbed into the car.
"Right, fucking vamoose you lot or I will fucking run you over" Malcolm told them before he got into the drivers seat.
Once away from the hospital Malcolm looked across to Eve.
"I thought you told the PM you were still deciding if you would go back or not?" He asked
"I know, but they don't need to know that" Eve answered.
"Have you?"
"Yes" Eve nodded and sighed looking out the window. Malcolm looked to her quickly, not needing to ask the answer.
