Chapter Twenty Seven

A/N: Italics are a flashback.

"Hey, I'm sorry." She smiled as she walked into the spare bedroom. She was usually the first one to apologise. "Sirius, I'm an idiot." Her husband was sitting on the edge of his temporary bed and she straddled him, wrapping her arms around him. "I want to protect our children more than anything but I want to fight too. We can't. Not any more."

Sirius gave a small laugh as he rested his hands on her hips. "Always the stubborn one."

She gave a small laugh and pushed lightly on his shoulders, urging him to lie back. "You should know. You're just as stubborn as I am." Her fingers brushing down his cheeks. "Now, my love. We need to eat." She kissed him quickly before climbing off him. "We have a rather full manor to cater for."

Reaching up, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back onto the bed. "Not yet." He pulled her on top of him before turning over and laying over her. His lips descended onto her own. Her laugh was muffled by his lips and she wrapped her arms around him. Running her hands across his shoulders.

She pushed against his shoulders a little. "Stop. Have you heard from Remus lately?"

Sirius groaned. "So, we're kissing and you bring up our best friend?" Raising one eyebrow at her. "Never thought about having a threesome but what ever floats your boat."

"Sirius!" May shouted at him and pushed him off her. "I'm worried about him. He seems sad. Especially since he told us about what happened with him and Harry." The two of them sat up. "We pushed him and Tonks together because we thought they were right together. What if they weren't?"

"Oh be quiet! Stop doubting yourself." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her tight into his side. "He's terrified right now. He's going to be a dad soon. I was exactly the same when we were having Lizzy. I wanted to run because the thought of looking after a small human being panicked me."

She gave a small laugh. "I know but he should talk to us. I hate it that we haven't spoken to him since the wedding. It's been nearly 4 weeks now!" Shaking her head, she stood up. "Come on." Walking to the door and running her fingers through her hair as she walked. Trying her best to tidy her appearance. Smoothing her shirt down before opening the door. "I'll let our daughter sleep in the same room as George Weasley," she teased him as she left the room. "She might already be in there."

"Don't you dare say that, Black." He chuckled as he followed her out of their private room. "I will have a heart attack if they are sleeping in the same room." He laughed as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, walking down the stairs side-by-side. "I don't want to be a grandfather. I'm too young."

May laughed loudly and wrapped her arm behind him, gripping his dinner jacket in her fist. "Very unlikely." She laughed. "Is that a grey hair?" Reaching up and pulling out a single strand of his hair from his head. "Oh, it was just the light."

They stopped at the bottom of the stairs and he pulled her in close. "I'm 38! Nearly 39. It is against the law for me to be a grandfather so soon."

She shook her head and kissed him. "Sirius, shut up. I know for a fact that you will not be a grandfather any time soon!" She knew that her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend had not had sex at all. She rolled her eyes and shook her head as he tried to process the information. "Oh bloody hell, Sirius." Laughing as she walked down to the kitchen, where the sounds of the Weasley family came from. Molly was probably cooking again. May had given up arguing with the older woman and just let Mrs Weasley do what she wanted. No point in arguing.

"Mum," whined Cecilia as she handed Lyra to her mother. "I am not changing her nappy. No way!"

May took the baby from her and kissed Lyra gently on the top of her head. "Come on, my little one. Your big sister is silly. Let's see if we can get daddy to change you." She took one look at her daughter, who was sitting very close to George. It was only last month, did she and Cecilia have a heart-to-heart about Cecilia and George's relationship.

Sirius had left the house with Arthur and the twins. Molly had become the domestic ruler of the manor and was currently cooking dinner with Ginny. Thomas was asleep in his own bedroom. He just turned one and Lyra was only a few months old. Thomas was nearly walking on his own. Though he did prefer to crawl.

May was lying across her large bed with Lyra. She had laid her daughter on the bed and May was lying over her; their faces level. She made her daughter laugh by pulling faces, speaking in a funny voice and kissing her small features. "Now, my little darling. Are you going to sleep now? Because you should be." She kissed her daughter's nose and this made the baby laugh and try to pull on her mother's hair. "If your daddy was here telling you to go to sleep, you would be asleep in seconds." Lyra gave another squeal of giggles and pulled on May's hair, trying to put it in her mouth. "No no no no." She pulled her hair from Lyra's little hands.

"Mum? Are you in here?" Cecilia knocked on the door.

May did not look away from her youngest child as she spoke, "yes. I'm keeping your sister entertained." She listened as the door opened and closed. Cecilia moved and lay next to her mother. "What is it? I know something is up."

She sighed heavily and placed a finger in her little sister's fist, who gripped it tightly and suckled on the tip of her finger. "George and I... We're um... I want to have sex."

This was coming. May knew it was. She turned to look at her eldest child, who was obviously avoiding looking at her mother, keeping her focus on her baby sister. Lyra was oblivious to what was happening and happily chewing on her sister's finger. "A mutual decision?"

"My decision. He hasn't pushed me, if that's what you are thinking." The blush on Cecilia's cheeks were spreading and her whole face was nearly red. "I asked him but he thinks I should talk to you."

"He's right. I'm glad you did come to me." May climbed off the bed. "Watch your sister for a moment." Cecilia watched as her mother went into the bathroom. She could hear her opening a cupboard and glass vials clinking together. "Right," said May as she walked back into the bedroom with at least four vials in her hand. "I don't want any grandchildren just yet. Your father will kill George if it does happen." She handed her the vials. "Always drink one before you have sex. Always."

"Thanks Mum." She sat up and held the four vials carefully before hugging May tightly. "Aren't these yours?"

"I'm mixing loads everyday. I love your father and I do want to have more children with him but not just yet. So, don't worry. You won't be having any more sibling from me." The two of them laughed before their attention was diverted by a loud cry from Lyra. "Awwww. You're little sister is a little jealous." The two of them returned their attention to Lyra, who was only crying because she wasn't having enough love from her mother and sister.

"So, you are positive that George won't be impregnating our daughter any time soon?" Sirius asked as he changed Lyra and May had Thomas on the bed with her.

"For the love of Merlin!" May groaned. "I am sure! I've given her contraceptive vials and I know what our daughter is like. She will not forget to take them." Rolling her eyes and laying back on the bed, letting Thomas crawl onto her stomach. "Oof!" She groaned as he dug his knee into her stomach. "Thanks, Tommy." She pulled her son off her body and sat up, placing him on her lap. But he crawled away. "Sirius, stop being so bloody paranoid."

He laughed as he redressed Lyra and carried her over to May. "You can't blame me. In my mind, no boy should be allowed near our girls."

May laughed as he sat next to her with Lyra happy in his arms. "I don't blame you. Just stop being so paranoid. She's a good girl. At least she came to talk to me about it." She chuckled as Thomas climbed onto her lap. "Hello you." Wrapping her arms around her son, who was getting bigger everyday.

"Will this end soon? Do you think? The war?" He sighed as he looked down at his daughter, who was smiling up at him and cooing in delight. Both children were oblivious to the dangerous world around them. Sirius hoped that it would end and their children could attend Hogwarts freely without being afraid. Hogwarts was meant to be the safest place in the whole wizarding world but it wasn't. Snape was headmaster and the school was being terrorised by the Slytherins and the Carrow siblings. Nowhere was safe anymore.

"I hope so." She rocked Thomas, who was playing with her hair. She pulled it from his grasp when he tried to put a strand of her hair into his mouth. "Come on. These two need a feed." She stood up and once again pulled a long strand of her hair from his son's mouth. "Before I am bald."

A meeting had been called. It was pointless as nobody was fighting any more. All of the Order were in hiding. But a meeting was still called occasionally. To see if everyone was well. The meetings were now being held at the old Potter manor. Kingsley was in charge of the Order and was heading the meeting. "There has been no word from Harry since he entered the ministry. But we must keep our hopes up." He looked over at May and Sirius, especially. "If he was dead, You-Know-Who would have made it public knowledge."

May looked over at Sirius, who was staring tensely at Kingsley. "He's right, Sirius. If Harry was dead, You-know-who would have made it known to us. He would have made a display of it." Giving his hand a squeeze, he looked down at her and gave her a slight smile. Even with no news, he was still extremely worried for their nephew. "Any news of the muggleborns, who are on the run?"

"Reg Cattermole, his wife and children are safe in America. We got them out just in time. But others, we cannot find them." Arthur spoke up from his seat. He was sitting by his wife and Charlie. His eyes flickered over to Tonks, who was sitting next to Remus in silence. The two of them had recently reconciled.

"Keep your radios on, ladies and gentlemen." Kingsley announced as he got to his feet. "Thank you May for letting us have the meetings here." He shook Sirius' hand and then May's hand. "Everyone should take their time leaving. Just not to cause any suspicion on the area. Death Eaters have been seen patrolling this area a lot."

"Why?" George spoke up. He gave Cecilia's hand a squeeze. She may only be 16, but May allowed her to sit in on the meetings. George was worried for the safety of his family and his friends.

Sirius and May exchanged a glance before May spoke up. "We think Harry may come here. Not to see us but to visit James and Lily's grave. Probably the cottage. It's a connection between Harry and You-Know-Who in more ways than we can all think of." She stood up and gave them all a small smile. "Now, you are welcome to stay for dinner." She gave another smile before she left the large dining room. Not even making it to the kitchen and she fell to her knees. The reality of war was finally hitting her. Especially when she thought about James and Lily's absence.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around her and lifted her up off the cold stone floor. "Come on. Bed. Molly is cooking. Everyone is going home." He carried her through the manor, avoiding any of the departing guests and lay her on their bed. They lay together. Sirius lay behind her and held her close as she sobbed her heart out. It broke his heart to have her like this. They wanted to live in peace but too many bad memories ran through her mind. Both of their minds. It was hard but they were going to get through it. Together.
