Chapter XXVIII: Under the Cloak of Evil

Kong Li

"Yes," I said as I saw the girl fly in my direction, my plan had worked. "Now to conceal myself," I said wrapping my cloak around myself and using my magic to change my form just as she landed in front of me. "Thank you for coming my child," I told her as she turned around and looked at me.

"Danny is that you?" she asked as she eyed me up curiously, "you seem different?" she told me as I thought up of what to tell her. Even though she is under my influence it's not as powerful as it should be due to her only touching the potion.

"That is because I am weakened and imprisoned," I told her as she looked concerned for me, "You know those children you were with?" I asked her as she nodded, "They have imprisoned me with a magical barrier," I explained to her.

"That can't be, that was made for some fruit loop named Kong Li," she said as I bit my tongue at that insult she uttered. I am the greatest of the Eastern Mystics and soon I crush Chinatown.

"They lied," I told her, "I need you to destroy the barrier so I can escape," I said falling on my knees, "please I haven't much time left," I said pointing to the sky as she gasped and went to do my bidding. "Excellent," I said as I changed back into my true form and went back to the shadows.

Tucker

I can't believe we got expelled, someone should put that Zazic in his place," I told Speed as I put my clothes in the suitcase but he didn't reply.

"Uh, oh yeah, definitely someone should," he said halfheartedly as I looked and walked up to him. His eyes were cast to the floor and he seemed to be depressed or even scared.

"Are you okay, I mean it's not the end of the world that we got expelled," I told him as he sighed and a tear rolled down your cheek.

"Maybe for you," he said standing up, "but this is my refuge," he said as began to tell me about his past.

It seems since he was born he spent his entire life in an orphanage and was constantly picked on by the kids for being short and his name. They would beat him mercilessly. One time he got cut up bad and had to have stitches on his forehead (since then he's worn his in a moptop to hide the scar).

The story made me shudder as it reminded me too much of all the abuse Danielle has had to put up in her life. I can see why he was so offended that he was accused of hurting the girl. "Brutal man, but if you want you…," I began to say until I heard a knock at my door. "Hang on a sec," I said as I went to open it. On the other side Sam and Lucy were standing.

"Tucker, Speed, we need to talk," Sam said as they came in, "we have a plan to prove Zile framed us," she said as Speed perked up.

"Really?" he said cheering up a bit, "but how he has all the cards," Speed asks as Sam smiles.

"yeah, but he have the wild card and it's time to play it," Sam said as she told us her plan, I hope for Speed's sake it works.

Imhotep

"You're right," I told the old ghost as I pondered his words. It is true that both philosophers and occultists seek the same thing though they use the different means to reach their goals. "But what does that have to do with our journey?" I asked him curiously.

"Why do they spend their lives pondering a single thought without ever getting an answer or pouring over texts written in a long dead language that has been uttered for eons?" he asked me smiling as I thought back to my days as a student.

I studied under Egypt's greatest mystic, an old hermit named Amahté. He was said to have been descended from the god Osiris and had access to knowledge off limits to mortals. It was he who instructed me to build a pyramid when Djozer ordered me to build 'tomb that will make time tremble and inspire awe even after the days of the gods are forgotten.' Without him I would still be a humble engineer working on ways to pump water into the small town on the boarder of Nubia where I was born.

After a moment of thought I spoke up, "They seek the Divine, they want to grasp something beyond the mortal realm and achieve the peace and unity that comes with submitting one's will to that of a higher…," I began to say until a strange feeling came over me. "What is happening?" I asked Clockwork as he smiled.

"The mystery is about to be revealed," he replied cryptically as I looked down and saw that I was levitating.

Danni

I reluctantly flew up to where Danny had told me to go to destroy the shield that was holding him prisoner. A strange feeling welled up inside of me, "something's not right," I told myself staring at the sky trying to make sense of what was going on here.

"How dare you question your own brother, Danielle Alexis, you owe him your life," a voice whispered in my ear causing me to shudder. "Without him, you would be in a cage in a circus with people laughing at you like you were a freak," it said as a tear rolled down my cheek thinking about being Freakshow's slave.

"It's true," I admitted in defeat as I raised my arms and began to blast the shield with all my might.

"You're doing well Danielle," I heard Danny's voice say as he flew up to me smiling.

I poured all my power into the shield but it seemed like it wasn't budging, "It's not working," I said stopping as Danny's eyes glowed in anger.

"Keep working, you can't let those children keep me here!" he shouted raising a hand, "use you all your power don't stop until this shield is no more," he said as a strange force took over causing my arms to raise and energy to rush out them.

I could feel the ectoplasm burn my hands and my power began to drain, "Danny, can I stop please?" I said out of breath as I tried to lower my arms but something was keeping them place.

"NO!" Danny roared as I felt a strange power surge through my body forcing me to keep going.

Tobey

"They have to be here somewhere," I said as I flew through the skies looking for Sue and Danielle, "maybe I can find them using the GPS built into their bikes," I said turning on the receiver but something was causing it to malfunction. "Looks like I have to find the…," I began to say as I saw something up ahead.

It looked like Danielle but she was attacking the barrier keeping Kong Li imprisoned. "Something doesn't seem right," I said as I flew up to her but as I got closer something pushed me back and send me hurtling towards the ground

"So, you think you can stop me?" Kong Li's voice said as I managed to pull myself in time to see the dark magician in front of me. "You are too late, you shall be the first to witness the fall of Chinatown," he said swinging his Dragon Staff at me but I dodged it in time.

"What have you done to Danielle?" I asked him as I gave him an uppercut sending him flying into a building. "Hang on Danni!" I shouted as I got up and went to my bike but it had vanished.

"Lose something," Kong Li said smiling, "The girl is my slave and she shall ensure that I will finally be free," he said as kicked him the gut forcing the staff from his hands. "You can not defeat me," he said looking up to Danielle smiling, "the girl you protect shall destroy you," he said raising his hand chanting "Danielle, lái lín," causing the girl to stop and fly up to him.

"You called Danny," she said as Kong Li smiled.

"Yes, I want to destroy this boy!" he said pointing to me with his staff as she flew closer to me and I prepared to defend myself.

Head Observant

"What is this nonsense about?" I heard Frostbite ask as he and my messenger entered the room, "I was told that a crisis of immense proportions is about to occur," the leader of the Far Frozen said as I nodded and brought up the screen bowing my head.

"We fear that Lilith is planning to return," I told him gravely, "The ice of Cocytus is cracking, if she escapes no doubt the Last War will begin," I warned Frostbite as he scoffed at me. "As you know the Ghost Council must vote on what to do," I told him sternly.

"Which can't be done as Clockwork is away at urgent business," the yeti like creature informed me as another brother came in with Pandora. "What is she doing here, she is not a member of the council?" he asked as the Greek ghost frowned at him.

"I was called here because I was told that Clockwork abdicated," Pandora told him as Frostbite growled at her but I got between them.

"Enough, we don't have time to argue, a vote must be cast on what to do," I told them turning to the screen as I called the council to order so that we could act on the situation.
