Chapter 28
Whatever Chaos's final play was, it was coming soon. Between Ami's logic, Serena's intuition, Rei and Michiru's premonition and Setsuna's daunting lack of foresight there was basically a cosmic flashing sign of impending cluster fuck heading this way.
"Venus, watch yourself," Jupiter yelled, giving me just enough time to duck as the building behind me erupted into flames. My back made a sickening sound as it collided with the stobie pole, a dent forming. Twisting so I landed unsteadily on my feet I glared at the fire breathing hell skank. Her hair blew with fiery stands blowing through the wind. Wait, where was her frigid bitch of an ice sister?
"Silence wall," Saturn incanted as my head tilted upwards. Ice coated the barrier as she held her hand extended like she was blowing a kiss and blew artic temperatures. The shield shattered and I grabbed Saturn, dragging us away from the deadly sharp shards raining down on us.
"We need to split up," I panted, "Uranus, Saturn, Mercury, Neptune and Moon can take fire bitch. Mars, Jupiter, Pluto and I can take the icy bitch." There was a nod of agreement as we spilt into groups. Jupiter called down a massive lighting storm, while we distracted it. Blasting her straight in the crown of her head. Chunks of ice flew through the air, struggling to reform before Mars and I made them hiss into steamy non-existence.
"Mercury," Jupiter said in a strangled voice. The others had finished fighting there opponent but my eyes were riveted on Lita as panic filled my chest with every inhalation. She stood swaying lightly, blood spreading from her stomach all over her clothes and her gloves.
"Mother fucker," Mercury swore, snapping into Doctor-mode. Amara grabbed her and we dragged her to the Crown Arcade up the road and put her on the counter. Serena jumped up behind her to put her in an upright position.
"Do you want me to call an ambulance?" Andrew asked in a freaked voice.
"No, I need you to go and get me some stuff," Mercury ordered firmly, "I need a bowel of boiling water, alcohol – spirits only, the stronger the better, a needle, thread, some clean towels and bandages." He nodded and hurried off to find it.
I watched as she went to work, cutting away at Jupiter's clothes and checking for internal injuries. Serena kissed the side of her head and murmured in her hair as she fed her a large glass of scotch, because when you're anaphylactic to pills, pain-killers and drugs, alcohol is your best bet. You just have to have a good enough doctor that your blood doesn't thin out to much and you bleed out before they stich you up. I guess it's a really good thing we have Ami.
Eventually they finished, all the reporters dealt with by irate Scouts. Jupiter had internal injuries that Mercury had to go in a fix but with the help of Uranus and a lot of determination and sheer stubbornness, much to the cheering of the crowd, she stood and we disappeared back to the temple.
De-transformed we lay Lita out on the bed, and were silent, trying to find the correct words to fill the daunting silence. Rei was the one to break it and I wished that I could physically take the words and stuff them back into her mouth.
"It's coming," she said with a tired sigh, "The final battle with this enemy will be here any day now."
"She's right," Michiru agreed, "I've seen it coming to." Serena murmured about how she'd had a bad feeling before jumping into her happy go lucky persona.
"Yeah, you're right," I agreed shrugging, "We'll fight it when it comes and we'll kick ass. We always do." Except last time we nearly stayed dead and that was with one of Chaos's foot soldiers. Back in Elijah's room I slid my shirt up and examined the black and purple bruise on my back. The shirt hit the bed.
"What the fuck is that?" Klaus exploded, standing in the doorway with his hand on the handle. I looked at him like a deer in the headlights. My brain was momentarily disconnected as he grabbed me and dragged me into the lounge room.
"Klaus," Elijah said warningly when he saw his brother dragging me in my bra. His bite mark prominently on display for all to see.
"It seems our dear Mina has been getting into trouble," he said whirling me around so my back was visible, and hence my bruise. It wasn't really that bad but they like to overreact.
"Mina," he growled, stepping forwards and running a finger down my back. I repressed a shuddering flinch and the next second I found myself sped up to our room. A lie formed in my head and I quickly told it, not wanting him to worry about me.
"I'm a klutz," I said looking down, "I slipped over and hit a stobie pole, it's embarrassing. I just bruise easily." He just gave me a look that said, you're lying to me aren't you? And I ignored it. He bit his wrist and held it to my lips.
"Drink," he ordered in a displeased tone of voice. I opened my mouth and complied as seductively as I could. He gave a light moan, warm air ghosting my neck as he pressed me tightly against him. Suddenly I knew what I wanted, to chase away the cold, empty, terrified feeling in the pit of my stomach. I ran my tongue along the cut and felt his hands tighten.
"Lijah," I said in a breathy voice, he hummed in assent, "Fuck me?" My back hit the wall as he spun me around so fast his movements resembled a blur. My legs wrapped around his waist and my hands were caught tightly in his, held above my head. Anticipation tingled through me as his lips travelled closer and closer to me.
"No," he breathed millimetres away from my lips. I let out a noise of protest as he kissed me gently and laid me on the bed. My skin grew hotter and hotter as he stripped away our clothes defying any move I made to turn this into something desperate and needy.
Hands softly caressed me as I tried to tug mine free. But Elijah didn't budge. Soft open mouthed kisses were pressed languish up and down my throat. I shivered and tightened my legs around him as he slid in.
"Please, more," I begged shamelessly, "Please." I felt him shake his head before gently nipping at my skin. His slow pace had me withering beneath him, crying out softly with every rock of his hips until he bit me, causing me to fall over the edge after him.
"I love you," he whispered in my ear, pulling out of me and wrapping his arms around me. I said it back, said it back and meant it. As I used my hair to cover my face, and the tears pooling in my eyes that I stubbornly refused to let fall.
This couldn't be mistaken as anything other than what it was. This was I love you and I'll love you forever. This was him showing… devotion. This was forever, but I wasn't entirely sure that I had forever to spend with him.
He fell asleep and I pulled myself out of bed, looking on sadly as he turn and tried to find me in his sleep. In case I died and didn't come back, I needed to make sure that his mother was taken care of. Alaric was turning into her puppet, it wasn't hard to make the connection and if she truly believed her weapons were indestructible then she'd want to nab me.
Why not make it easy for her? Then take care of the problem. With that I dressed and took Rebekah's car to the grill.
So what did you think? Can I prompt any of you to review? Stupid plot doesn't want to cooperate anymore, but I'm soldiering on for your enjoyment.
