Strange Highways Part 2

"Shit, I think the road is trying to kill us." Nathan held on to the chair
"It's just poorly paved." I stop the gas pedal to make it up the hill. "How are you not used to crappy roads?" Not only was the road poorly paved, it was also unmarked and narrow.
"This road just seems worse than the other…"
I slow down and downshift the gear to help with the slippery climb. This plan seems to be working a lot better than stomp the gas. Once I round the top of the hill I pop it back in drive. Sometimes having an automatic transmission can be a pain, but the same can be said about a manual.
"If all these trees were not here, we would have one hell of a view over the side."
"What?" Nathan looked at me
"Look, you can see the top of another hill off in the distance, just saying…" I turned my attention back to the road, after all I was the one driving.
"And in front of us too." Nathan pointed at the hill in front of us.
"Umm, yah. Pass me the chips." I'm just craving potato chips right now.
Nathan got up from his chair and went to the back and brought me back a half-eaten big bag of Lay's classic potato chips. "Thanks man." I set the bag on my lap and unrolled it and reached in with my right hand, keeping my left on the steering wheel and grabbed a hand full of chips and stuffed them in to my mouth. But the joy of consumption was short lived as I had to return both hands to the steering wheel to start down the other side of the hill.
This is not a steep hill, just snow covered like the rest of the surrounding area and there is also a left hand bend in the road at the bottom.

"Christine, I didn't want to bring this up but…. You smell a bit funky, what were you doing last night?" Dentyne asked as she sniffed the air.
"I fell in a lake, alright. Geez…"
"You should have brought me along."
"It was a last second decision."
"Yep…. A last second decision." Dana spoke up and that was the last Pokemon I wanted to hear from.
"It's no big deal, ok.. I slipped on the ice and fell in."
"Umm-hmm if you say so Christine." The Espeon said like she was mocking me. She could read my thoughts, as much as I wish she wouldn't I can't stop her.
"Just please drop it Dana…"
"What was that Christine?"
"Nothing…"
"Lighten up Christine, it's no big deal." I looked up from my paws and over at Jenny.
"Yeah, your right, it's not. I just need to keep calm and move on."

"What does that sign say? 200 something KM to where Lake?" It was hard to read the sign, it was half in a snow bank.
"Huh? What sign?" Nathan looked at me.
"Never mind. Just make sure you're ready for tonight, maybe go take a nap or something."
"We woke up around the same time, I'm not tired." Nathan took the bag of chips from me. "Holy hell man, you almost killed the bag. I'm taking the rest."
"That's fine." I slowed down to 25MPH to go across a small bridge. The good news is there was no oncoming traffic, the bad news is the bridge is bumpy as hell.
"We're out of chips." Nathan crumpled up the empty bag.
"Just put it on the box." I noticed that the road evened out a bit.

If I ever come back to Alaska, will it still be the same? Things have looked the same while I was living that house, everyday wake up to the same setting, the same sun rise over the same tree line. I just can't stop thinking about it. I'm honestly scared of leaving. I don't know whats out there. I don't know if I want to find out. I'm glad my fear is not showing… I don't want any more questions. I just want to be left alone…
"Hey, I can stand up now." Lily was standing on the bed. "I don't feel like I'm going to get pushed down now."
"Why, was it really that bumpy?" Jenny said as she lay there like she has been this entire time.
"Yes it was, did you not seem me stumbling?"
"I didn't notice."
"Stand up Jenny."
"Why?"
"Just stand up and walk over here."
I watch as Jenny stands up. "Woah, shaky…"
"That's what I was talking about, now walk over here."
Jenny started walking then the van hit a bump and she was knocked off her feet. Lily started laughing. "Damn it…" Jenny mumbled to herself.
Super, Natural. British Columbia. Welcomes you.
