I pull her flush against me.

"Then I will take full advantage of your sexiness with one slow lick after the other."

And I push her away or at least I try to but she captures my lips kissing me strong and long.

"There. That should hold me over until later."

She winks making me sigh deeply. She grabs my hand leading me away from our den of iniquity down the hallway back into the sea of students oblivious to our wicked activities…

And speaking of wicked, look at who's swimming amongst the sharks…

Shana…

Chapter 28: The Confrontation

Emily POV

Maya grabs my arm pulling me down the hallway in the opposite direction of Shana.

"Emily. Don't." And she sounds like she really means it.

We step out of the flow of students and stand next to a random locker.

"Don't what? Tell her to back off. Tell her that she doesn't stand a chance in hell with you? What? Maya? Please tell me, what?" My chest heaves. My eyes narrow. My lips are pursed.

"Whoa, chill out killa. I just didn't want you to start something that the principal might have to stop. That's all." She steps closer to me caressing my outer arm sending a wave of calmness throughout my body.

"Maya…"

"Shhhh…" She puts her finger to my mouth not letting me speak. "Whatever you have to say about Shana, do it with me later. Get it out of your system then and don't go starting something you can't finish now. Promise me. Okay?" She takes her finger away from my lips pushing my hair behind my ear.

"Fine. I'll do it your way." I curve my lip into a smile because she's right but more so because I can't resist her when's she's this close to me.

"Baby, you do this my way and then I'll let you do me your way." She reaches through her toes rising to my lips kissing me into agreement.

"I'm gonna hold you to that," I yell to her as she hurries off to class.

"I know you will," she waves back not even turning to make sure I heard her because she knows I'm watching her from behind and I so am!

I turn the opposite direction to head for class before the second bell rings but much to my surprise Shana stops me.

"Shana, we're gonna be late," I try to get around her but she won't let me.

Buzz Buzz

"Emily, we are late and this can't wait," she says quite seriously.

Everyone appears to be in class leaving the two of us alone in the hallway and I promised Maya I wouldn't start. And technically I didn't, she did.

"Emily, I had it all wrong," she begins.

A look of surprise flashes across my face, "What do you mean?"

"I had a conversation with Spencer and she explained the history of your relationship with Maya."

"She did?" I ask with even more surprise.

"Yeah, she did. And I think I get it now. What the two of you have is something every girl or guy, for that matter, wants and you've got it," she says with a seriousness that catches me off guard.

What is happening right now?

"Emily, I get it. You and Maya deserve this and I'm not going to mess that up for you. Not now. Not ever. I just hope you believe that. Emily, I didn't know," she smiles and we nod as she scurries off to class leaving me alone in the hallway pretty much dumbfounded.

Do I believe her? Only time will tell. I'll have to talk to Spencer at lunch to see if she believes Shana. But that can wait cuz I'm super late and I hope I don't get a detention because I have somewhere to be and someone to do after school!

Narrator POV

As Shana rounds the corner to walk into class her phone buzzes. She has a feeling she knows who it is so she opens the text and reads…

Good girl.

Leave Emily & Maya alone.

And your real reason for coming to Rosewood will be left unknown.

-A

Shana puts her phone in her bag hoping she convinced Emily that she's serious. She still has feelings for Maya but she's willing to let them go because the last thing she wants is for her past to destroy her future…

Emily POV

"Hey guys," I acknowledge as I sit at the lunch table with Spencer and Maya.

"Hey," they say in unison then look at each other.

"So, I had the most interesting conversation with Shana just before class. I was actually late but managed to talk my way out of it." I eye sex Maya letting her know our rendezvous is still on.

"Emily, we talked about this," Maya states with disappointment in her tone because she thinks I went back on my promise.

"She stopped me. I said nothing. She basically said she's leaving us alone because of something Spencer told her." I look directly into Spencer's eyes, "Isn't that right Spencer?"

"I can't take the credit. I just told her how many times your relationship was tested and that you survived every test. That's fate. You don't mess with fate. And I suggested that maybe Shana not mess with it either," she shrugs her shoulders like it was nothing and keeps eating her salad.

Maya nudges Spencer, "Well, it looks like living next door to you has paid off. Thanks Spence."

"It was my pleasure. You two deserve a break don't you think?" She questions us.

"Funny you should say that cuz it looks like –A is giving us one," I suggest to Spencer.

"What do you mean?" she asks.

"Look at this." I show her the card that Maya and I got for Christmas.

"Oh my god! This is great news, if it's real. I hope it is! You two really are soul mates and everyone knows it even –A!" She excitedly announces seeming convinced of its authenticity.

"Well, Em, I'm gonna choose to believe that note and Shana. I can't be stressing over this anymore. I just want to be happy. A normal teenager with a great girlfriend," she winks.

"Then I will too. I love you Maya and it's about time we got a break," I agree with a sigh of relief.

"I love you too baby," Maya coos so girlfriend like.

"Are you two finished? Cuz I'm about ready to regurgitate everything I just ate!" Spencer makes gagging noises and pushes her neck forward like she's about to throw up.

We all laugh out loud about everything especially our sappiness in front of Spencer!

"Well I'll see you guys later. Whose house are you staying at after school anyway?" she asks.

"Probably Maya's. Her parents are much more relaxed than mine," I answer.

"Actually my parents are out of town," Maya lifts her eyebrow.

"Are they ever home?" Spencer jests.

"Cute Spence. Their jobs are in the city and they play into the late evening. Sometimes I miss them but it just means more Emily time without Pam," Maya says. She's the second person who caught me off guard today.

"Hey, my mom's cool with you now," I strongly insist.

"I know but I was the one who was responsible for you being honest with yourself. So it makes me wonder if she ever thinks that if I never came to Rosewood, would you still be with Ben or some other guy." Maya explains with a tinge of sadness in her voice.

"It doesn't matter because, you, Maya, are the reason that our Emily can be herself. And that's the most important part of you coming to Rosewood," Spencer side hugs Maya.

"Thanks Spence," Maya says needing to hear that and also because Spencer's right.

"Well I guess I'll see you guys later. You're welcome to come over for dinner. Just keep in mind Melissa and Jason will be there," Spencer casually slips in.

"Count us in! We'll be famished by dinner time!"

"Maya!" I can't believe she just said that but I love her for it anyway.

"It's true and you know it," she winks.

Spencer puts her hands over her ears, "La la la la la la la…," and off she goes to class leaving Maya and I laughing at her uncomfortableness.

"I guess we should get to class too," I look up at the clock as it's about to go off for the next period.

"Yeah I suppose. Walk me?"

"Absolutely. I love walking you to class. I know a lot of people are looking at us but I don't care. That's what I love about you Maya. That I can be me no matter what and no matter who's watching."

"I'm glad I do that for you. Cuz it was a struggle just to get a hug out of you when we first met."

"Was it really?" I ask not so convinced.

"Yes. Remember that day on your front porch and we shared your tea?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"I wanted more than just your tea. That hug would have lasted a lot longer if your mom hadn't interrupted."

"I know. I didn't want to let you go."

"Well, I guess it worked out for the best," she says with another sculpted eyebrow arch.

"What do you mean?" I need to know.

But just as I'm waiting for her to answer the first bell rings.

Then she whispers into my ear, "I mean I ended up in your bed just where you wanted me."

And off she goes to class leaving me there unable to move and I know deep down inside she's absolutely right!

It seems like forever and a day before the last bell rings. I pack up my backpack having already gotten what I need from my locker to study. I race to the student parking lot waiting for Maya at my car. I unlock it and throw my bag in the backseat and by that time when I look up I see her walking with…Shana? My blood starts to boil. She's laughing and carrying on. What the fuck Maya! And then they say goodbye. And do my eyes deceive me! No they don't! She hugs her! I'm furious! I get in the car and close the door waiting for her but what I really want to do is drive off and leave her there!

The car door opens. She throws her bag in the back. She opens the front passenger door and gets inside.

"Damn, its cold out there. Can't wait for you to warm me up," she says sliding her hand between my thighs.

"Cut the crap Maya! I saw you with Shana!" I can't hold back.

"Emily! What the hell! I was just assuring her that we're cool! Calm down."

"Calm down! You know how I feel about her!"

I put the car in reverse almost plowing into some students.

"Em! Take it easy!"

I put the car in drive going faster than I should be going in the snow until Maya puts an end to my elevated moment of seeing nothing but green.

"Emily. Stop the car! Now!"

I brake.

"Em, I wanted Shana to know that you and I are cool with her and we're glad she finally came around. She's afraid of something. I don't know what but I just got this feeling. And whatever she's afraid of I think has to do with her backing off."

Now that she puts it that way I feel foolish for getting so "Zelena" green.

"Maya, I'm sorry. She just draws it out of me and you know it. I never thought that she could be in some type of trouble."

"Yeah well I hope it's not –A trouble."

"Why would you say that?"

"Think about it Em, -A gives us the gift of freedom and now Shana is acting like she's afraid to be near us. That sounds –A to me."

"We don't know that for sure but if you want to look into it, we'll do it together."

She takes my face in her gloved hands kissing my lips, "Thank you baby. Now, let's get home before it gets any colder out here."

I drive us to Maya's parking my car in her driveway. It looks like Spencer is already home but we'll see her later. It's me and Maya time. She unlocks the door to her house tossing her bag by the stairs. I walk in behind her mimicking her every move. She kicks off her boots putting them in the entryway to dry. I do the same. She takes off her coat hanging it in the closet. I do the same. She walks slowly up the stairs knowing that I can't take my eyes off her, not even for a second and goes into her room. She closes the blinds and pulls the drapes. It feels like night. She lights several candles filling the room with the scents of sage and citrus. It's a calming scent that slows our breathing and heightens our sexual temerity.

She takes my hands bringing me closer to her.

"Baby, it's your turn to be in control if that's what you still want," she kisses just beneath my earlobe.

"Yes, that's exactly what I want."

"Do we take off our clothes or do you have something else in mind?" she snuggles into my neck sending waves of euphoria throughout my body.

With her hands still holding mine, I place her arms around my neck. I pull her as close to me as she can possibly get. I kiss her lips to her jawline to her ear where my lips rest and I say, "I have lots of things in mind…"
