Chapter 28

Change

~~ Spirit World ~~

Laxus almost broke down when he watched the newest message from Lucy. Twins, she's having twins. He smiled at the thought of two babies. I have to get back to her. He looked around and spotted Leo talking to the wolf, and watched as he nodded to her and walked over to him.

"So what's the news, Leo?"

"Lupus says it will be several more hours before the poisons are out of your system, until they are out we can't completely heal your injuries. Once your injuries are healed, though, we can begin the process of restoring your magic. It will be a while so you should rest some more."

Slowly, Laxus nodded at Leo. "Thank you, Leo, for everything." As laxus settled in, his mind kept racing with thoughts of Lucy, of how their lives were changing, and soon he drifted off to sleep.

~~ TS 8 hours (Laxus) one month (Lucy) ~~

Laxus woke up to someone poking his face. He groaned and opened his eyes to see a pair of bright hazel eyes staring back at him, and he heard a laugh as the little spirit took off.

"Leo!" He called out, looking for the spirit. "Where are you?" He heard footsteps and turned to see Leo walking towards him, followed by Lupus, Lepus, and Pyre.

"Good, you're awake." Leo came over and sat next to Laxus. "Lupus has informed me that all the poison is out of your system and we can completely heal your injuries now."

"How long have I been asleep?" Laxus asked, dreading the answer.

"About eight hours." Leo replied, glancing away.

"So another month? How is Lucy?" He asked with a sigh, running a hand through his hair, his thought racing through his mind. "Are the babies alright? Is Lucy taking care of herself?"

"She's doing fine and so are your children." Leo nodded to the spirits behind Laxus. "Just relax and Lepus and Pyre will start healing you."

Laxus closed his eyes and relaxed, and he could feel their combined magic starting to work. He felt warm air circle around him, taking away his pain and felt the heat from Pyre's healing magic work on his injuries, they had started to sting a little. Minutes later the magic stopped and Laxus opened his eyes and looked around.

"You're ready to be moved now." Leo said as he walked over and slowly helped Laxus stand. Laxus staggered a bit when he stood, he couldn't ever remember feeling this weak, and he leaned heavily into Leo.

"Where are you taking me?" Laxus asked as Leo led him away from where he had been laying, and he could faintly hear running water in the direction they were heading.

"To the spring here, the source of the healing waters here in the spirit world. You will need to rest in them until your magic comes back. I will warn you now, once you step in the waters you won't be able to leave until your magic is completely restored. This is the part that takes the longest." Leo looked at Laxus and saw a determined look in his eyes.

"I'm ready, I want to get back to her as soon as I can."

"Okay then. We're here." Leo told him as they stopped and Laxus looked around at the area.

It seemed to be a simple fresh water spring, rocks bordering the pool of water that cut into the cliff next to it, a stream of water cascading into the pool from above. Laxus could feel magic coming from the pool and as he looked closer he could see swirls of blue and gold in the water, giving the pool a soft glow.

With a sigh Leo set Laxus down on one of the rocks ringing the pool. "I'll leave while you undress."

"Nervous or jealous?" Laxus said with a cocky smirk.

"Neither." He said with a laugh. "I prefer woman." Leo walked away, giving Laxus privacy while he stripped, but he chose to leave his boxers on, an annoying little spirit had been following him. As he placed one foot into the pool he felt the tingle of magic and tested to see if he could leave. His foot came part way out before it stopped, like a magnetic force was keeping his foot in the pool.

I guess I won't be leaving anytime soon. With a sigh Laxus went into the pool. The water along the edge was rather shallow, but as he went further into the pool the water got deeper, above his waist. As he looked around he saw several large boulders underneath the water in the deeper parts, perfect places to sit, some of them even under the stream of water falling from above. With a sigh Laxus made his way back to the edge to sit down, the water reaching his chest as he leaned against the rocks as Leo made his way back over.

"So I just sit here? How will I know when my magic is restored?" He asked Leo in an irritated voice.

"Its different for everyone, so I have no idea how you'll know."

"What will I do until then?" With a smile Leo held up two bags.

"You have more messages and you might want to answer some of them." Leo tossed Laxus the bags, and with a smile he began to watch them.

~~ Guild Hall ~~ End of March ~~

"Here is your cake." Lucy said as she placed a slice of strawberry cake in front of Rose, smoothing back her blue hair. "And here is your ice cream." She said as she placed it in front of Loke, who gave her a wide smile and dug into it. "Okay Mira my shift is over!" She called out to Mira, who nodded from behind the bar.

Lucy sighed as she sat down. Wendy kept reminding her that she was pregnant with twins, so she had to take it easy, even though she was done with her first trimester. Her hands went to her growing belly, she was roughly the same size of Juvia now, the twins growing at a normal rate. In a few weeks she would be able to find out their gender but she wasn't sure she wanted to just yet. She smiled as Cana came and sat next to her, her belly much bigger than Lucy's.

"So did you find out what it is?" Lucy asked as Cana let out a small sigh.

"Yeah, but not in here." Cana glanced around, glaring at the eavesdroppers. "I want it to be a surprise for everyone else. Want to get some fresh air?"

Lucy nodded and the two woman made their way out back and sat on one of the benches surrounding the training field. She looked over and saw Gajeel was training Nami today, and Erza was in her Heaven's Wheel Armor as her opponent.

"So, what is it?" Lucy glanced over at Cana and saw a small smile on her lips.

"A girl. I can't wait to tell Bacchus."

"Congratulations!" Lucy's hands went to her own stomach. "I wonder what these little ones will be?"

"Whatever gender they are I know you will be happy, but if they're anything like Laxus was you're going to have a handful." Cana said with a small smile, and with a sigh Lucy leaned into her and Cana wrapped an arm around her.

"I wish he was here..."

"Its going to be all right, Lucy. He'll come back soon." The two stayed like that as they watched Nami train.

Gajeel kept trying to get Nami to roar, something she had never been able to do as there were no adult Dragon Slayers in her time, and she is the oldest of the three Dragon Slayer children of her time.

"Come on Nami! Concentrate!" Gajeel roared at her. "Your roar comes from deep within, when you're fighting for something you care about! Try it again!" He nodded at Erza, and she began to send her swords flying at Nami, who had no choice but to dodge.

Something I care about? I care about my family! Shouldn't that be enough? As she dodged she felt her metal scales start to cover her body, something her father had recently taught her, and Erza's swords started to come at her faster. I can't keep this up much longer.

"Come on Nami! ROAR!" Gajeel yelled at her.

"I CAN'T!" Nami yelled in frustration, and felt her magic spike as some of her daggers flew away from her in different directions. Gajeel and Erza both dodged several of them, but she heard a short scream and saw a flash of light in the corner of her eye, and looked around to find the source. She looked towards the edge of the field and saw a woman with white hair and armor, a giant shield made of condensed magic standing in front of one of the benches. As the woman faded Nami saw Lucy and Cana sitting there, Lucy holding her keys in front of her.

"Oh god, Lucy! I'm so sorry!" Nami yelled as she rushed over to the two. "Are you okay?"

"Yes, thanks to Lucy's quick reflexes." Cana said as Lucy helped her stand.

"We're going to go back inside so you can concentrate on your training. We'll see you later." Lucy called as they made their way inside, breathing a sigh of relief as they made it safely inside.

"Lucy!" Mira called from the bar. "Leo came by when you were outside! You've got a message!" Instantly Lucy's face lit up, she gave Cana a hug and walked over to get the lacrima from Mira, who smiled brightly at her as she handed it over.

I'll go somewhere quite to watch this. My office should be good. Lucy waved to the people she passed as she made her way to her office, closing her door behind her. She sat in one of her chairs and turned it on, smiling as she saw Laxus's face appear.

He was somewhere new now, she heard water splashing in the background somewhere. "Hey Lucy, I'm all healed up now, I just have to wait for my magic to be restored." He grinned out at her and she could see a few tears in his storm blue eyes. "I can't believe we're having twins." He sighed and ran a dripping hand through his hair. "I want to be by your side so bad right now, I want to feel our children as they're growing inside you. There is so much I want right now, but all I really want is to be home, with you, as soon as I can."

Suddenly he cocked his head to the side and he sighed. "Oi! Brat!" He yelled out behind him. "You can come out now!" From behind Laxus Lucy could see a little girl coming out from behind some plants. She looked young, and she had tangled orange hair and hazel eyes, and she was wearing a short blue dress.

"What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?" Laxus asked in an irritated voice as the girl came closer to him.

"I'm bored! You're the first human I've ever seen so I'm just curious as to why you're here, with us spirits." She looked over his shoulder and spotted the lacrima and her eyes lit up with curiosity. "What are you holding?"

"It's a recording lacrima, and its recording right now..."

"Oh! Who are you recording a message to?"

"The person I love..." Lucy could see a small tear in his eye.

"Who is that?" The girl edged closer.

"Her name is Lucy."

"Her?" The girl's eyes went wide and Laxus let out a sigh.

"Sorry, Lucy. Looks like I have to go play twenty questions. I love you so much. Hopefully I'll be back soon, just wait for me." Laxus smiled out at Lucy, and she let out a sigh as his smile faded.

Don't worry Laxus. I'm here waiting for you. No matter how long, I'll be her waiting for you to come home.

~~ TS ~~ 1 week ~~ beginning of April ~~

Lucy sighed as she sat up in bed, the morning light coming through the window. That's right today is the day the Rainbow Sakura Trees are in full bloom. Everyone is going to the park to watch them. She glanced over at the clock and saw it was already past ten. She got out of bed and stretched, and from downstairs she could hear the clanging of pans. Nami must be cooking, I might want to get dressed so we can leave after we eat. She walked over to the dresser and started looking for a shirt.

Nami had just finished cooking the bacon when she heard a muffled cry from upstairs. With a sigh she placed the plate down and went to see what was wrong. She opened Lucy's door and burst out laughing. There were several shirts thrown on the floor and Lucy was standing by the dresser, struggling to get a too tight shirt off.

"Don't just laugh! Help me!" Lucy whined. Stifling another laugh, she walked over to her and turned one of her fingers into a blade and sliced the back of the shirt, freeing Lucy.

With an annoyed huff, Lucy threw the offending garment onto the floor and crossed her arms over her chest, or she tried to. "They've gotten bigger! Nothing fits anymore!" Lucy cried out, sinking onto the bed.

"I remember someone at the Guild saying that one of your spirits can get you clothes. Couldn't you ask it for some clothes?"

"I could try..." Lucy reached over to the end table and grabbed her Zodiac keys. "Virgo, if you can hear me could you please send me some clothes that will fit." Seconds later a set of clothes materialized on the bed next to Lucy. "Thank you!" She said to her keys as Nami left the room so she could change.

The top was a pale blue tank top that was slightly stretchy, and long enough to cover her growing belly. There was a white cardigan to go over it and a pair of black shorts with silver start embroidered into them. Lucy sighed with relief when she was dressed, everything fit like it should. She dug a pair of blue sandals out of the closet and went downstairs to eat with Nami.

Once they finished eating they cleaned up and left the house, making their way to the park where all of Fairy Tail had gathered. The place was beautiful, the large Rainbow Sakura Trees were providing shade as well as beauty, the blossoms were falling gently in the light breeze, drifting past in a swirl of colors. Everyone was setting up blankets to sit on, gathered up in little groups sharing blankest and snacks.

"Go." Lucy told Nami. "Be with your family, have fun and be a kid for once." Nami gave her a tight hug before going off to find her family, and with a sigh Lucy looked for somewhere to sit.

"Lucy!" Someone called out to her, and she turned to find Cana waving her down. Smiling, Lucy went over and sat down next to her.

"Is it just me or are you bigger?" Lucy made a face at Cana and explained what happened earlier, causing Cana to double over with laughter. "I'll have to take you clothes shopping later, just you, me, and the girls. Speaking of girls, I was wondering when you would join us." Lucy looked up to see who Cana was talking to and saw Gray, Juvia and Loke standing next to Elfman, Evergreen, and their three daughters with Wendy off to the side, standing there and holding blankets.

"Mind if we join you?" Wendy asked, holding up a basket of snacks.

"Go ahead." Lucy said with a smile and watched as the men spread out the blankets and every settled in. Soon, though, the children ran off, leaving the adults to talk.

"So, Ever. When's the baby due?" Cana asked and Evergreen leaned into Elfman with a sigh, her hands cradling her enormous stomach.

"Not soon enough..."

"At least you have clothes at home that fit..." Lucy muttered, everyone laughing at her remark. "Every day they get bigger..." She sighed and tugged at her top. "I had to ask Virgo for clothes today." She heard Wendy sigh and glanced over at her. "What is it, Wendy?"

"I wish I was pregnant, at least then I wouldn't be average size anymore." Wendy gestured at her chest, and Lucy and Cana burst out in giggles.

"What's funny?" Wendy asked and Lucy pointed behind Wendy, and she turned and saw Romeo standing frozen behind her. He had heard their entire conversation, and he dropped the drinks he was holding and turned bright red and ran off, Wendy following close behind him.

"Ten thousand jewel says she's pregnant by next year." Gray said, flashing everyone a grin and the money.

"Since he's a Man I'll give him two years." Elfman said, pulling out the money.

"I give them six months." Cana flashed the money, giving everyone a lewd grin.

Lucy dug into her bag and pulled out her bet. "I give them a year and half. Who's holding onto the money?" Instantly everyone pointed at her. "Fine, hand it over! I'll store it at the house later." She said and slipped everyone's bets into her purse.

Soon, everyone was enjoying the festivities. There was the usual game of bingo, and some other games for the children. As it got later in the day all the S-Class mages were called together for a family group picture. Lucy watched in amusement as everyone tried to get their children to stand still long enough to take the picture. Finally Gray got annoyed with all the children and threatened to freeze all the children in place, all the children behaved after the threat.

Laughing, Lucy took her place next to Levy and Gajeel, but she then noticed Nami standing off to the side. "Nami! Come on!" She called out to the girl, but she shook her head. "Nami, if you don't get in here next to me I'm going to drag you here." With a small smile, Nami walked over and stood next to Lucy, who gave her a bright smile.

"Okay everyone!" The photographer called out. "Smile on three." Nami looked over and saw Lucy giving the photographer a real, radiant smile, nothing forced about it. "One, two, three!"

Nami's smile matched Lucy's. Mom, everything here is changing, for the best, I hope.
