Chapter 29
A week has passed and Stryker had already sent Alexander and Roman on a mission to Australia, for what I do not know. While I was in the pack, Malek was in charge of me which he reluctantly accepted. I never really left my tent, and this was okay with me, for I was having mild abandonment issues. I had no problem admitting it be I was alone, but I missed Victor. I thought he would maybe call or something while he was away, but he didn't so I figured he would be too busy and so I did not call him so I wouldn't bother him.
Luckily, Alexander and his beta would be gone for only three days. I rolled around in the furs a bit trying to grow comfortable. Since I arrived this morning, many of the pack members continued to look at me as if I was some creature from another world. The unmated females saw me as a threat to the males. I could see it in their eyes for I know what a threatening look looks like. The males either looked at me with suspicion or with challenging looks wondering if they could over power me somehow and make me submit. A females was still a female no matter the species. The cubs of the pack were curious of me, but weren't allowed neared me, because their parents did not trust me. Speaking of children, I could hear their little mutters outside my tent. I lifted my head up and looked to see small forms outside my tent. The sun was out high today, so I could see they were kids.
I arched a brow and watched some of them open the tent a few inches to look in at me. Pups of any breed were always curious. I sat up quickly and gave a light hiss to scare them and they all screamed and ran away. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Leopard…may I enter?" I heard a feminine voice. I blinked and nodded.
"Yes." I replied. The tent opened and in came Priscilla with a plate in her hands. On it were steaming slices of meat. It smelled of cow. I did like beef.
"Malek instructed me to bring these to you." she said holding the plate out to me. I smiled and reached for the plate.
"Thank you." I replied smelling the food. She nodded with a smile. Her hair was platinum blond and she had crystal blue eyes and sort of a mouse with a button nose. "It smells nice. Did you make this?"
She nodded.
"Yes, the other women refuse to tend to you." she said lowly. I nodded.
"Of course. What wolf would want to volunteer to tend to the needs of a cat?" I asked expecting that to be the case. She gave a gentle smile.
"I volunteered… Someone has to and… you seem okay." she replied. I nodded.
"I would like to think so." I replied. She smiled a bit more.
"Is it true… that you have the marks of a leopard?" she asked. I nodded once more.
"Yeah it is." I replied. She bit her lip looking flushed now. Her eyes showed question in them. "Would you like to see?" Her eyes sparkled and widened and she nodded moving down onto her knees. I sat the plate aside and she maneuvered to the side of me. I pulled the side of my hair off so my patterns could be seen.
"Oh wow. They are beautiful." she said as if mesmerized. I chuckled picking up some meat and ripping it in half. Blood dripped onto my chest and I did not care.
"Don't you see this on other cats?" I asked. She shook her head.
"No. Our pack does not really take too kindly to mutants of other species. Cats are the main species we avoid because well you know." she said. I nodded. Because we are natural enemies blah blah blah. I offered her some meat and she smiled and declined.
"So you don't get to talk to many cats then huh?" I asked. Cat and dogs were like blacks and whites. They didn't mix well in the mutant society. Some did but they were looked down upon or avoided. She shook her head again.
"No. I know your kind is not bad, but your scents are repelling." she said and I shrugged.
"Right back at you." I replied. She shook her head.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude." she told. I shook my head.
"No it's okay." I assured her. She bit her lip again and looked away.
"Is it true your mate and you did not meet on good terms?" she asked. I nodded.
"It started out rocky." I replied. "But we are okay. I heard you came from another pack?" She nodded looking down curling her fingers together.
"Yes. My pack was slaughtered by an enemy pack. They came in the night and swiftly left with the rising of the sun. No one saw a thing, but their scent was not that of a wolf's." I could hear the sadness and mild anger in her tone. I nodded.
"I'm sorry. I have never lived in a pack before, so I can't say I know what you are going through." I told. She smiled gently.
"But you do have a pack. You have your mate and his soldiers at the military base. They are your pack- well pride I guess." she said with an innocent chuckle. I chuckled in response and nodded. Slowly she stood up. "I have other duties to attend to. The other ladies have returned from bathing at the lake. Here's some soap for you if you wish to bathe now."
She handed me a bar of soap and I smiled politely and nodded.
"Thanks and it's Solara by the way." I replied. "I'll just finish my meal and go down there then." She nodded and moved towards the tent.
"It was nice getting to talk to you, Solara." she said lightly trying out my name on her lips. More children had been peaking in when she came out and they ran away when she left. I finished my warm meat in thought. I did most things alone in the pack which were okay with me. If we just kept to ourselves I was sure there would be little to know trouble. Once I was finished eating, I gathered some clothes which were just a t-shirt and some shorts and left with the soap. I had already been led to the river once and so I was trusted to go down there by myself.
I was stared out for a while until I was far from the camp. However, the scent of wolves still surrounded me, so I assumed some of the males were watching from afar. Once I got to the lake, the scent faded off some. They gave me my space, and I had to assume they would not watch me unless my scent left the lake. I removed my clothes and got into the water. It was cold and I hissed softly, but continued to move into the water. The water rose up my body and up to my breasts. I began to bathe quietly. I ran the water over my shoulders and chest. Then I dipped my head back into the water so my hair could get wet. Then I ran the soap all over my body and it felt good feeling the soap wash away some of the dirt on my body. I moved quietly in the water loving the warmth of it on my skin. I was now just swimming and enjoying the water. I dove down and spun around in the water with my eyes wide open. When I came up there was a figure right at the edge of the water causing me to jump and screech loudly.
It was Malek standing there with his arms crossed and a glare on his face.
"What?" I asked.
"One: you're taking too long. If you're clean get out. Two: A soldier has come with a phone. You got a call." he told. My heart jumped it seemed for I already knew who it was. I swam swiftly to the grass and got up. At the sight of me, Malek looked away and I hurried to put my clothes on. I ran all the way back to the pack still soaked and the water now made my clothes wet. Once I was back at the entrance of tents that led into the pack, I saw Fred standing there. That's right, he didn't go with Victor and the others to Brazil.
"Fred." I called out and he turned to me with a smile.
"Hello Lil lady. You got a phone call." he said holding up the big military black phone.
"You get service out here?" I asked. He nodded.
"We got towers all around here. I was told to deliver this phone to you. Press 9." he said with a smile. I didn't even question him further. I took the phone with a smile and nodded and pressed nine and pressed it to my ear. There was a ring that lasted only a second before it was picked up.
"Solara?" I heard his voice and I smiled feeling all types of negative emotions and feelings being lifted off my shoulders.
"It's me." I replied happily.
