A/N: What it do?

"Verium."

Looking up from the breakfast table, I see Boris standing in the door way to our little kitchen with a look that seems to make the old man ancient. "What did you say?"

"That's the name of the plant, verium. It's very, very rare and I couldn't even begin to tell you where Steele got it from. Only that I think I know what he's using it for."

That grabs my attention for sure, by he somber look Boris has on his face has me dreading the answer to my next question, "What do you think he's doing?"

With a sigh Boris sits down across from me and rests his chin atop his hands as he speaks, "He's poisoning the towns people. Moreover he's poisoning them with an undetectable herb that mimics the symptoms of diphtheria. The patient gets a cough, then a few days later starts coughing up blood, eventually the patient either suffocates if they're lucky and if they aren't..." But I don't need him to finish. I know the alternate outcome.

"Blood rushes into the lung and the patient literally drowns in there own blood." I finish for him.

Boris nods with a sad head shake. "It's slow, and its painful. Worst of all the children and elderly are most susceptible to it."

"We have to alert Matthias."

"I think you're right schneok."

"Why would he do this?" I asked completely dismayed. "And how do we even prove he's the one behind it? This makes no sense! What could he possibly gain from this?"

"That is the one part I don't yet understand and to be honest I'm not sure we can prove it was Steele. Regardless it's time to alert Mathias to what's going."

"If it comes down to it we'll have to kill Steele won't we?" I ask Boris as rage floods through me.

"Truth be told schneok, I thought I'd left this life behind and all the killing and violence that comes with it." As he says this I can see the fierce determination of a warrior enter his eyes, a look that is mirrored in my own I know. "But if Steele threatens the people of this town, we will not stop until he is dead."

"You know it won't be easy. He's like me and he's got a whole pack." I say. But I'm ready for this. All the training, all the brutal drills are about to put to the test against one of my own kind.

"It'll be a tough fight that's for sure Balto. Think your ready for it?"

Am I really willing to put my life on the line for these people? The ones who belittled and tormented me? Then one picture jumps through my head, Jenna. How could I look her in the eye if I ignored this threat? I know then that I can't turn my back on this. Then with a smile I look at Boris and say, "Let's go kill a Wolf."
