DSD 29: A Star Before Me (1)
If there's one thing Stiles didn't like about being a second grade teacher were the parent conferences. Sure, Stiles was brilliant with the kids but the parents? Those were adults – most of them older than he was by at least seven years.
Children, Stiles could deal with. He loved children. They were wild and the world was their canvas to paint their imagination. He could be wacky and hyper with them because they would be wacky, hyper, and happy right back.
Parents, on the other hand... they always want to hear the best of their kid(s). Stiles was more than happy to tell how wonderful little Kimmy was or how bright Ben was, but Stiles couldn't be himself around the parents. They would think he was unqualified with the unconventional methods of behaving he had (they already thought he looked too young to be handling a classroom full of the promising bright future). They sat usually side by side more than a little dressed up with anticipating eyes, waiting to hear the good news. Sometimes the parents would drag the child in too; sometimes, the children would amass in some corner with toys and hushed giggles .
The kids Stiles dealt with were only around eight years old. No matter how rebellious the kid was, he or she was only eight years old. There's still something pure about most eight year olds. Moreover, after about a month with his new batch of kids, Stiles hadn't seen a problem kid yet. Well... it was too early in the year to say anything but Stiles felt that this years kids could be the most well behaved kids yet.
It was October. Somehow, the school thought it would be smart to have open house in October (after a month since school started). Stiles figured the school figured that a month would be a good time for the teachers to get acquainted with the students and not far enough along the year that they get rowdy.
Stiles shook his head slowly as he watched the next couple come in through the doors. From his seat behind his antique wooden desk, he could tell that these parents were divorced – they hardly looked at each other and seemed to try to assert him-/herself as the leader. It would have been amusing if Stiles didn't know that these were Kevin's parents. Kevin was a sweet, gentle kid with a problem to approach other kids. Stiles thought that perhaps if he'd had parents who probably thought more of power struggle than giving him attention, he'd be pretty shy, too.
Still, Stiles' gut told him Kevin's parents were nice enough when they weren't at each other's throats.
Sighing, Stiles shook his head as Kevin's parents left the room. He glanced at his list again. The next parent on the list was a father of three of his new transfer students. The three transfer students were Boyd, Erica, and Isaac, and it wasn't hard to figure out that they were adopted.
A week ago, the three children showed up, quiet, reserved and a tight knit group that not even the most gregarious of the other children in Stiles' class could penetrate. They tended to stick to themselves (though Stiles secretly vowed to change that by the end of the school year), and it would be interesting to meet their parents.
Stiles peeked at the list again as if it would give him almighty answers from above. Instead, the list just simply read Derek Hale.
AN: Thank you Twesel for still being there for me =] but I'll try to fix that withdrawal.
To kat: you're usually first to review =] Lots of hugs to you!
Props to PunkIggy =] Twister? All that's needed is Sterek. I'd shoot Twister in the face any day for some Sterek. XD
Thanks Mfon! Stiles does tend to brag doesn't he? XD Well... what other skills does he have other than being awesome and witty? XD Oh and sexy as hell.
Hiya pepps! =] thank you for reviewing!
And I know! Short and no sign of Derek yet! Not sure if this drabble series will actually go somewhere or not. We'll see...
Song of the Day: "Burned with Desire" by The Annual 2004. …. Hmmm... I'm just listing names from pandora. Is The Annual 2004 an actual band? Because eight years later... not that smart of a name XD Prolly it was just a 2004 thing maybe. Or maybe I should google it. … Oh it's just a yearly thing. That particular song was from 2004. It's like a compilation of songs I believe.
Word of the Day: filibeg (a kilt)
Did you know that? I didn't. Is it pronounced like "fill a bag"?
I wonder.
Sleepy. Night mis bellezas. =3
