WARNING! SELF HARM! I'm actually quite disgusted at myself for writing this...hmm but I hope you all like it. DISCLAIMER: Don't own Rise of the Guardians nor the characters. And at the bottom in the A/N there's a surprise (ish)
A POUND OF FLESH PART 4
Jack had done it. He had protected Sandy. One down now three to go. He opened his eyes and stared into blue then green and then purple. He could do this. For them. He didn't remember passing out but he did remember the sobs from the others. The despaired looks they gave him before he did. The tears and pain finally stopped as darkness took him.
Jack was awake. He had been for an hour. He had first screamed in despair then in anger at the Guardians. Then it had turned into begging and pleading. He had clawed at the door until his fingers bled. It almost broke their hearts to hear Jack like that, but still they didn't unlock the door. Why? They were scared. Scared for Jack and in some way scared of him too.
They had someone guarding his door and would rotate every two hours. Bunny sat on the wooden chair beside the frosted door. Sandy shot him a sad smile and left to get some sleep for himself. Bunny turned to the door. It was silent inside, but then his ears picked up on the muffled sobbing.
"Jack?" Bunny asked.
Nothing.
"Jack listen mate, I'm sorry for doin' this to ya. Honestly I am. It ain't right, but neither is trying ta….cut ya self."
"You don't understand." Jack said. His voice clearer, Bunny assumed he was right behind the door.
"What don't we understand Frostbite?"
"It doesn't matter,"
"Bloody hell Jack ya tried to hurt ya self! That matters mate, it matters a lot! Let us help you."
"Help me by letting me out. Why are you doing this to me? I'm a prisoner now." Jack cried, "so much for family."
Bunny's chest constricted in guilt. He didn't say anything for while.
"Family helps each other. That's all we're trying to do." Bunny muttered.
The hallway and room behind the door fell into silence again. An hour past. Bunny was bored, but he didn't dare leave. He could hear Jack snoring softly. At least the screaming had stopped. A small hand shook his shoulder. He must have fallen asleep. He was jolted awake by Tooth. Bunny was on his feet in an instant scaring the fairy.
"What's happened? Is he okay?"
"Calm down Bunny. Jack's fine, still in his room. You fell asleep." Tooth sighed.
"Sorry about that." Bunny said rubbing his neck.
"Don't worry," her eyes fell to the door and her face darkened in sadness, "how long are we going to keep him locked up. It isn't right. We're imprisoning Jack!"
"I know, Toothie I know, but as North said it's for his own good."
Smash. The two Guardians jumped in fright. The sound of smashing glass they quickly realised had come from inside the room they were guarding.
"Jack!" Bunny yelled in panic.
He lunged at the door and tried to wrench it open, but pulled back as it froze over in a thick layer of ice that began to creep down both ends of the hallway from the door. Bunny and Tooth glanced at each other. Their hearts pounding in their chest, breath coming rapid and shallow. Tooth slammed her fists on the ice, calling for Jack to answer her. Bunny hammered on the ice with his boomerangs. This was bad. No worse than that it was a life or death situation.
Bunny kicked himself mentally for being so stupid. He should have been in the room with the boy. They had left him alone…..oh! Bunny cursed out loud. Tooth flinched but didn't say a word. They had been really stupid this time. They had left Jack Frost alone. After all this time you'd think they would have learnt. Never, ever leave Jack Frost alone. They had just broken the very person they were trying to protect.
"Tooth we gotta get to him. We left him alone. Alone Tooth!"
The fairies eyes widened, "JACK!" She screamed.
"What had happened?" North bellowed.
The pair turned around and stared at him and Sandy. His face darkened and Sandy raced over the door and began to whip the ice.
"Jack don't do this mate, please. We're here for ya. Open up!" Bunny cried, throwing all his weight at the ice to break it.
"Sweet tooth, let us in please, please! Jack. We won't lock you up that was so very wrong of us."
"Jack open door now!" North shouted.
Jack stared at his reflection in the shard of glass in his hand. The wind howled around him. Jagged pieces still remained in the window frame. Jack knelt in the pool of glass under the window, his hood and staff discarded in the corner. Tears crept into his eyes. He couldn't do this. He couldn't.
"Jack open door!" North's voice shouted at him.
He turned his head. The wood was pealing off where his nails had dug into it. Jack reached for his staff and blasted the door again, giving a cry of pain and grief.
He heard Bunny swear. He small smile crept over his face, but quickly disappeared once he turned back to the glass in his hand.
"Do it Frost."
Jack jumped in fright, but didn't turn around. He knew it was the Reaper. The stench of his rotten breath was a give away. Jack whimpered, closed his eyes, raised the shard and screamed. He screamed as it cut into his skin, as it pealed away the flesh from his left arm. Reaper knelt next to him, collecting the flesh as it hit the ground.
"H-H-Happy?"
"Mildly. It's not enough though Frost. How about some from right here?" Reaper said and touched Jack's bare chest.
He didn't wait. He did as he was told. He carved a line on his chest. His hands trembled as screams of pure agony wracked his body. The Reaper's bony hands held his small, blood soaked ones to steady them.
"That's it Jack. Sandman would be proud of you, unfortunately though he's only going to be disappointed. This is where I leave you alone again Jack Frost. Hope you had fun."
The ice shattered. Pieces of ice and wood rained down. The Guardian's tumbled into the room. Jack clutched his stomach and rocked himself back and forth as he silently cried. It wasn't fair. Not fair at all. The pain was excruciating. He wailed and rocked himself. His deranged, blood caked face reflected back at him from thousands of glass shards that littered the floor.
"J-Jack?" Tooth asked.
Then he turned around. Their faces morphed from creased with concern to pure horror. Their mouths wide open and slack, eyes bulging. Tooth recoiled.
"Jack…why?" Bunny choked.
Jack stood up. Blood spilled down his chest and arm and dripped onto the floor. He stepped towards them but collapsed onto his knees. He cried, one hand covering his face the other resting on the ground. Sandy moved forward, a dream ball in his hand. Jack caught sight of the little golden man and lunged. Startled Sandy dropped the ball all together as bleeding arms embraced him.
His shoulder was quickly wet. Sandy glanced down at the sobbing boy hugging the life out of him. Not knowing what else do to Sandy hugged Jack and patted his back. This only resulted in an escalation of hysteria and crying from the teen.
