Arriving in London. Part 1

Mai's Pov

It had been twelve hours since we left Japan when we arrived in London Heathrow International Airport. Naru, the workaholic, demanded that we get our belongings and meet him outside. Everyone nodded and scattered to find their suitcases. By the time we made it outside Naru had his arms crossed in annoyance.

"What took you so long?"

Before Ayako could start her tirade, I glared at her. I walked up to Naru with the cart of heavy equipment rolling right behind me.

"The reason why we took so long, Noll, was because there are too many boxes of equipment and not enough carts to go around. You did not help us with anything so stop complaining. And you are not the only one who is tired." I gestured to the group behind me. "We are all exhausted from the long flight so give it a rest already." After my speech, I walked away from Naru to put the equipment in the van.

Naru stood there flabbergasted, not expecting Lin Koujo, the man his parents hired all those years ago, to be so irritated with him. What's even more shocking to the young investigator was Lin defending the group from his temper. That's something only Mai would do. Speaking of the young woman, she was just standing there looking at Lin with horror-edged into her features.

Lin's Pov

What the heck is wrong with Mai? Is she trying to get me fired? One mention of this to Noll's parents and I'll be in a lot of trouble. Noll can be vindictive when the mood strikes him. I'm going to have to talk to her as soon as we get to the hotel. Mai got into the driver's seat and put the key into the ignition. I walked up to the van and got into the passenger seat. I scooted over so that Noll could get in. Mai pulled out of the parking lot with ease. I was quite shocked with her ability to drive when she is angry.

~Ten minutes later~

When we arrived at the hotel Mai parked the van and got out without saying a word. She started to take out the suitcases and handing them to everyone. Is she still mad at Noll? I tapped her on the shoulder, hoping to get her attention.

"What do you want, Taniyama-san? Can't you see that I am busy?" She said, turning around to face me. I turned away from her, feeling rejected. What is wrong with me? I'm used to the rejection. But apparently, Mai is not. I wiped my eyes, puzzled. I don't understand Mai's feelings at all. When I stepped into the hotel lobby Naru handed me a key and said that I would be sharing a room with Miss Matsuzaki and Miss Hara. Fantastic. Matsuzaki-san likes to spend several hours in the bathroom and Miss Hara talks to spirits in her sleep.

I sit down on one of the empty beds, hoping that Miss Matsuzaki would not take to long in the bath because I want to get clean too. I hear my phone chime letting me know that I have a new message. I looked at the message and saw that it was from Mai.

"We need to talk." It read.

"When and where?" I replied.

"Two hours from now. Hotel parking lot by the van."

"Fine."

I put the phone down and got underneath the covers hoping to get some sleep for a bit before meeting Mai. Miss Matsuzaki came out of the bathroom, cursing under her breath. Miss Hara looked up from her book probably wondering the same thing I am. Before we could ask Miss Matsuzaki what was wrong, she starts talking.

"I forgot my blow dryer and my makeup sponges!"

"Don't tell me you're going to put makeup on before you go to bed?"

"Of course not, Masako." She rolled her eyes. "But it is part of my daily routine. And you've seen me without my makeup on in the morning I look absolutely dreadful."

Miss Hara apparently took pity on her and handed her the makeup sponges that she brought with her. Miss Matsuzaki took them gratefully. Miss Hara put the book that she was reading on the nightstand next to her bed and said good night to us, falling asleep quickly. Miss Matsuzaki got into the bed that she claimed as hers and fell asleep just as fast.

After sleeping for a bit, I got up and made my way to the restroom to do my business. Once that was completed, I made my way out of the room past the hotel lobby and outside to the parking lot. When I arrived Mai was leaning against the driver side door with her arms crossed. I could tell immediately that she was still angry.

"I have a feeling you are still angry. Maybe we should wait and talk in the morning." I suggested.
