Chapter 29: Who do you think you are, some heroine from shoujo manga?

It had been two weeks since the surgery.

Luckily, it went successfully and the feeling in her legs had been saved, which Cris didn't know if it was a good or a bad thing. On one hand she could now walk, on the other her back hurt like hell and she could feel the stinging, rather aggravating, pain coming from her broken leg. Of course she had painkillers, but they didn't normally to quell the pain in her leg but they did stop the pain in her back.

The pain in her back had ceased after a while but it still cropped up occasionally and her leg had to have a new, stronger and tighter cast. Those weren't the only pains to course through her though, it did hurt her that her friend's weren't allowed to visit, and they weren't even allowed to know that she had woken up due to the people after her. Stupid police, not allowing me to see my friends. Now she knew she shouldn't really blame the police because Lestrade, who had been to see her and was leading the case to find the guys who tried to kidnap her (even though Cris could only remember one guy apparently he was working for someone, or something like that), was really nice to her and didn't force her to say anything that she didn't remember.

There was still a piece of her memory that she couldn't recall. When she tried to think about the blackness that haunted her, it only brought her more pain. That being why she didn't like to try and think about what happened after she blacked out at school. She knew there was something else, sometime between then and her going into the coma but no one would tell her about it.

Not to Cris' knowledge but everyone had been told about Cris lack of memory or, in the case of everyone but her mother, the police and the doctors and nurses: they were told that Cris was likely not to remember that day when she woke up, because two weeks after she'd woken up, they still weren't told that she had awoke and were told that they couldn't see her.

Honestly, that was what annoyed her most: not the pain, not the endless tests that she had been subjected to over the past two weeks, but the fact that she hadn't seen her friends in what felt like years, even though it had been just over a month.

Nevertheless, after the two tedious weeks she was finally allowed to go home but still no one was allowed to know she was home. Apparently the police had wired the security cameras on their house so that the police could see every bit of the outside of her home. She didn't like the idea that she would be watched every time she left the house but it did make her feel safer and they already had the cameras any way, it was just that the police were now watching the cameras as well.

So at about midday, Magnus said she could go home, to which Lestrade added, to her delight, that she was allowed out of the house but she had to have her mum with her when she did. This, Cris decided, wasn't too bad but instead of focusing how much of an invasion of her privacy it was, she decided to focus on the fact that at least she was allowed outside.

Her mum came with clean clothes that would fit over the red cast, which was decorated with black runes. She quickly changed into the hoodie and black baggy, ripped jeans and she immediately felt better. The smell of home over whelmed her and made her feel safe and slightly giddy.

She found her phone in one of the pockets and was immediately saddened as she remembered she could go on any social-networking site, to not expose her. She honestly felt like crying when she found out she couldn't go on Tumblr, she wasn't even allowed to check her feed!

She unlocked the phone only to find she had a message. Huh strange, why would anyone text me when I was in a coma. She thought as she opened the message that read:

When you wake up, just wanted you to know the we're looking after you're Tumblr for you ;)

You're welcome.

Missing you loads,

Jace and Will (the Herondale hotties)

P.S. We know you changed your password… And we're quite offended and worried for your sanity that it was 'ducksareNOTevil'. Obviously that was some ploy to keep us out and if you must know we had to get Izzy to type it in for us, J

Love you always 3

She laughed at the text and while she was insanely worried about not only how they got the password but what they did to her account, she thought the ending was really sweet, so she had to give them that.

Unfortunately that only reminded her of how she couldn't see them and slap them for hacking her Tumblr… again.

She sighed, picked up her crutches and stepped out of her room to be faced with her mother, Magnus and Lestrade. She suddenly got worried, "You said I could go home, you can't go back on that now!" Cris nearly screamed which just made Lestrade laugh and say, "No, you are allowed home but we just need to talk with you," Suddenly becoming quite serious at the end.

"Look I've told you all I know, that's more than I normally would have," Cris sighed and Lestrade replied, "While that is quite worrying, it's not that,"

Cris was confused until the mother clarified, "It's just that when you go outside the house, you'll need a disguise of sorts, so people don't recognize you,"

"What are you suggesting?" Cris asked now curious.

Magnus handed her the small bag which contained a small box. Cris took the box and read the side, noticing that they were coloured eye contacts. "What colour?" Cris asked inspecting the box.

Magnus smiled widely and answered "I love how that's your question, they will make your eyes look a natural brown and you'll have to wear them every time you go out but that shouldn't be a problem since you've worn contacts a lot at Comic-Con,"

"Cool and I'm guessing there's something else," Cris said still looking at the box. Lestrade answered her, "Yes, well we we're thinking that you'll need to change your hair colour,"

Cris looked up at that, "We were thinking about a wig but that seems too obvious, so you'll need to dye your hair," her mother continued.

"Permanently?" Cris asked a little shocked, to which Magnus answered "That would be easier because otherwise you'd need to do your hair every time you go out, it just seemed less of a hassle this way" Cris was slightly disappointed, she actually liked her natural colour but at least this way it she would be less noticeable as herself, plus having it permanent would mean anyone looking through the windows of her home would still, hopefully, not think it's her.

"Look we know this isn't the perfect decision but it needs to happen and I was hoping we could have a girl day and get it done at a hair dressers," Her mother said hopefully, which made Cris smile a bit, Cris knew that when her mum meant go on a girl day to the hair dressers, they would go to the really posh and expensive one, that most importantly served drinks and, if you were lucky, food as well.

"Okay but I get to choose the colour right?" Cris asked causing them to smile and for Lestrade to say "Something natural would probably be better,"

When they got back to the house after going out shopping and having her hair done, Cris looked in the mirror. She had gone for a black tone that made it look like she had natural black hair and she had her contacts in when it dawned on her. "By the angel, I look like Izzy,"

Cris' mum laughed as she walked past and said "I always thought you two looked quite alike, now you look like a more tanned version of her, with lighter eyes," Cris could only agree to this and had to admit that while she loved her natural hair colour, she did like the way she looked with black hair.

She smiled to herself as she managed to walk up the stairs (as much as you can walk with crutches) with shopping bags adorned on her arms. When she got to the room she flung the bags on the bed and started to unpack all the new clothes her mum insisted she needed.

Her mum then knocked on the door and came in with a glass of water in her hand, she put the glass down the hugged her adopted daughter.

"Kind of hard to breathe," Cris managed to gasp out and she only loosened her grip a little.

"You've grown up so much, I'm so proud of you," she said her eyes tearing up again. "You are more than I could've ever hoped to have when I found you," Her mother continued. Cris smiled and said, "Thank you, thank you for everything you've ever done for me; you'll always me my mother no matter what my blood says,"

Cris' mother then let her go and wiped the tears from her eyes and Cris asked, "Do you want to watch a movie now?"

Her mother smiled and said "Go to the living room, this floor," She clarified because each of the three floors to their house had a living room, before continuing, "It's your pick and I'll go get popcorn,"

Cris was sitting down on the light blue comfy couch, when her mum came in. Her arms were filled with a massive bowl of popcorn, bars of chocolate, a glass filled with wine and another filled with cola which made Cris wonder how she fit all of that food in her arms. "I thought you were only going to get popcorn," Cris said but she didn't complain because, well, who would?

"I'm treating us," she said simply sitting down next to Cris, putting all the stuff on the glass coffee table in front of them. "What movie did you pick?" she asked but Cris didn't answer, instead she just pressed play on 'The Expendables 3'
