Chapter 29: The Journey We've Long Awaited Pt. 2 (The Reveal)
After eating breakfast and sitting on the couch for a couple of hours, constantly checking the time on my pokedex anxiously, 5:30pm had finally come. It was time to put everything into motion.
I stand from the couch, taking my pokedex into my hands and dialing the number I've been waiting for all day. It had rung only very briefly before another voice was heard on the other side.
"Hel-"
"Dawn! What are you doing right now? Is May with you?"
"Wait what's wrong? Is...something wrong? Did something bad happen to you?"
"What? Nonono nothing like that just...are you with May?"
"Well...yeah we're at Ian's house right-"
"Is Chris there too?"
"Uh...yeah actually. W-what's going on? Why are you so jumpy, is evertything okay?"
"Yup everything's awesome! This saved me from having to call everyone else actually. How soon can you guys be at my house?"
"Well...we aren't actually doing anything at the moment except for watching tv and-"
"Awesome! Can you guys come over like...right now? Frank and I need to talk to you guys big time."
"Hayden...you're really worrying me...are you two okay?"
"Everything's cool Dawn, I promise. Just...we'll explain everything as soon as you guys get here okay? Just uh...ya know. Tell Chris and Ian not to bring-"
"I don't think that's going to be a problem anymore to be honest with you..." Even though I can't see her, I can just feel her smirking at me.
"Uhh...and why do you say that?"
"I'll tell you guys later after you tell us whatever it is that you have to tell us, okay? We'll all be there in like...ten minutes."
"Sounds good, looking forward to it!"
"Hehee..alright. Bye Hayden..."
"See ya in a bit."
*click*
I nod and put my pokedex safely back into my pocket. "Alright that was weird."
"What was weird?" Frank asked.
I shrug my shoulders and shoot him a confused look. "I dunno. Something about us not having to worry about them bringing Jay and Tank around. Dawn apparently says that it should'nt be a bother anymore. I don't know what she's getting at though."
"I see. Wait, they're coming right now?" Frank shot up from the couch in a hurry.
"Yup, that's what Dawn said. No more than ten minutes. Our mom's still sitting on the back porch?"
Frank nods and begins walking towards the back door. "Yeah, I'm going to go get them now."
I quickly dart over to Franks side before he opens the sliding door. "I'm comin too."
We emerge from the inside of the house and shut the door behind us, gaining both of our mom's attentions.
"Yes, son?" My mom asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Dawn, May, Ian and Chris are all on their way over here right now. Frank and I need to discuss something with you all."
Miss Connie and my mom both look to one another, confused.
Frank's mom sets down her glass of wine and looks at the two of us more seriously. "Is it something bad hon?"
Frank shakes his head and smiles, taking a seat in one of the empty chairs and letting Angie sit upon his lap. "Nah. Just wait until they all get here, we both wanna get it to all of you at the same time. I promise, it's nothing bad at all, okay?"
I follow right after he does and pull a chair up for Ranie, deciding ultimately to just continue standing on my own.
After no more than two minutes or so, I could begin hearing large gusts of wind coming from the front of my house, making me smile to myself after looking over to Frank. "I believe they're here."
"That's what it's definitely sounding like."
"Be right back." I walk over towards the side gate of my house and open it to see the four of our awaited guests standing in the front yard of my house, grabbing their things from off of Chris and Ian's pokemon. I whistle and beckon them towards me, to which they comply after catching attention of me and returning their pokemon to their pokeballs.
"Hey Hayden!" Dawn runs over to me, giving me a big hug and smiling.
"Hah...jeez you act like you haven't seen me in a year, it's only been like a day ya know." I look over towards May and give her a little hug as well after Dawn had finally let go, giving Ian and Chris a little fistbump afterwards before walking them all into the backyard and shutting the gate behind them.
They all walk over to Frank, who happens to be the only one at the table now, and exchange greetings with one another before all taking a seat with some still standing up to their own will.
"Hey, where'd our mom's and the girls go?" I asked.
Frank shrugs his shoulders and lets out a sigh. "I tried to tell them to wait for a second, but they said that they needed to run some errands real quick since they had forgotten earlier. Angie and Ranie just both went inside to wait for us, since they already know what's going on anyway."
I cock my head back for a moment and shake my head a bit. "Wow, they all really couldn't just wait a little longer?"
He shrugs his shoulders and scoff a bit, cracking his knuckles a bit. "I guess not."
"Oh well. Anyways, you ready t-"
"Hold on a sec." Chris puts his hand up and stops me, shooting me a hard smirk as well.
"Uhh...okay? What's up dude?" I asked nonchalantly.
He folds his arms and closes hios eyes for a moment, then smiles. "Why didn't you just tell us what was up back when we were at the barbeque?"
"Huh? Back at the b-" Instantly, I could feel the tension hit me like a ton of bricks. I quickly looked over towards Dawn and shoot her a death glare like a Ghastly using leer.
It must've been super effective, because she had instantly shot back in a bit of fear, almost falling out of her chair. "Ahh what...what are you looking at me for? May was the one who told them!"
"Woah chill man...me and Ian understand dude. I mean it was a little uh...unexpected at first when they told us. Buuuuut once they had explained everything thoroughly, we totally understood everything. We even told Tank and Jay and they had understood as well."
"S-seriously though? Ugh come on guys, stop telling people please! I mean this time it was only Chris and Ian and luckily they were cool with it, but please...nobody else...okay?" I looked at May in particular.
She just smiled and nodded. "I promise, we wont. There's nobody left to tell anyway. The only reason that I had told Ian and Chris, was because they kept questioning and questioning about why you guys were acting so strange at the barbeque, and also at the talent show. It actually...kind of slipped...out. I didn't even intend to tell them purposely!"
I shake my head and roll my eyes at her with a little smile. "Well, then let's try to be a bit more careful in that department, eh?"
She nods in return and mouths 'sorry', giggling a bit afterwards.
I let out a heavy sigh and nod, turning towards Frank afterwards. "Alright...well...you ready man?"
He nods and stands up from his chair, walking over next to me and folding his arms with a smile.
Needless to say, we had everyone's full on attention now. It had fallen dead silent for a few moments, before I finally took a deep breath and reached into my back pocket with Frank doing the same.
Everyone looks to one another confused, but stays silent and looks at the two of us, baffled.
I smile and nod at Frank once again once we had fully pulled out our special pouches from our pockets. We had both held them up in front of us and once again everyone just continued to stare at us without saying a word.
"In these two bags...is something very special...and very rare. It was given to us by Professor Birch, who had recieved it from Professor Oak, back when we first had gone to Hoenn. Anyone...wanna just take a guess?" I held up the bag, giving it a tiny shake as I had said the last bit.
Once again, nothing but dumbfound looks across everyones faces, followed by a few shrugs all around.
"Alright, guess not. Frank...let's show em."
He nods at me and we both slowly walk back over to the table, open our pouches to take out our special items, and lay them gently upon the empty pouches atop the table.
Everyone had let out a loud gasp, epecially Chris and Ian, who looked completely astounded.
I can't help but to let out a little snicker at everyones amazement. "Well...judging by that reaction, I'd say that you all know what these-"
"Holy crap dude! How did the professor even get these!?" Ian suddently shouted.
"And what did he give them to you for!? Did he say why?" Chris asked in amazement.
I nod my head and take a deep breath. "Yeah...he thinks that Frank is best for Ho-oh and I best for Lugia. He thinks that we are...for some strange reason...the most suitable to go and possibly capture-"
"Wait...hold on a minute...you mean to tell me that you were planning on not even just...battling, but...capturing two LEGENDARY pokemon?" Dawn shouted with a bit of an annoyed voice, taking me off of my guard a bit.
"Uhh...I mean...yes?" I raise my brow, trying my hardest to figure out the problem.
May and Dawn both look to one another and their jaws drop to the floor for a moment before they both turn their attention back towards us with a bit of a scolding look.
I look to Frank, who's just giving off the same confused look that I had. It was really hard to tell what was going on at this point.
I cock my head back and shoot the girls a very weird look. "Uh...did I say something-"
"Stupid as hell? Yes you did!" Dawn finished off, gritting her teeth at the end.
"Are you two screwed in the head?! I mean...heh...my God come on Frank! Hayden! You guys are smarter than that!" May scolded us furiously.
"I mean...I'm not seeing what the big problem is here...why are you guys so mad at us?" Frank asks in a soft voice.
"The big problem? The big problem is that you two are gonna get fucking killed! Lugia,Hayden!? A goddamn Lugia?! The guardian and ruler of the sea? The pokemon who can literally conjure up a terrifying storm than can last as long as it wants it to, whenever the hell it deems it necesarry? Are you mental?" Dawn stands from her chair an gets only inches away from my face.
My mouth wants to move but I literally can't think of anything to say at the moment.
May shoots up from her chair as well, getting up in Frank's face just as Dawn had did to me. "And a Ho-oh, Frank? The literal guardian of the skies? The phoenix pokemon that holds such a sacred fire within itself that whatever it sets ablaze literally can burn forever?"
We both look to one another and slowly nod at the girls whilst everyone else still remains silent.
They both let out a heavy sigh and shake their heads angrily.
"Hayden we are literally talking about a Lugia. A literal LUGIA. A pokemon of legend! Hence why we call them legendary pokemon! I mean do you even know the stories behind these two pokemon?" Dawn asks, rubbing the bridge of her nose impatiently.
Frank and I are both still pretty much rendered speechless at the moment, so we both just shake our heads.
Dawn lets out a long sigh and shakes her head furiously. "Unbelieveable."
May laughs a bit in annoyance and claps her hands together, only scaring the two of us even further. This was a whole different side to the two of them and honestly...I hope we'd never have to see it again. "Frank...you do realize that ever since the ancient pokemon war having destroyed brass tower, which was supposedly where it had resided, nobody has ever seen Ho-oh again right?"
"N-no I didn't know-"
"Granted, people have spread rumors that Ho-oh would supposedly only come back if he found a trainer with pure heart, but do you know how many stories have been told of trainers that fit that exact description, literally leaving empty handed, just as everyone else had done? Countless stories Frank! And now people say that ever since Tin tower was built, that they've seen mere glimpses of a bird like pokemon atop it...though it's never even been confirmed!" May shouts the last part, throwing her hands into the air angrily.
Frank shrugs his shoulders and clears his throat nervously. "So...Hayden and I can just climb the tower and look for ours-"
"Climb the...do you know how old that tower is? You can't even get inside of it anymore because it's closed off! Three people died just last year from falling through some of the floors, Frank, it was all over the news! Even if you two did manage to get to the top, who's to say that it wouldn't be all for naught? Look how many people have gone into the tower and either found nothing, or worse, lost their lives over it?" Barely noticable tears began to slightly form in the corners of May's eyes.
I clear my throat the best I could and use the softest voice possible. "I mean...we wouldn't even know until we try..."
"And Hayden!" Dawn suddenly points at me.
I just cock my head back and swallow hard, readying myself for yet another verbal lashing.
"You do understand that Lugia supposedly lives in a cave in the very middle of the whirl islands? How on Earth would you even plan on getting to it, you two? You would literally drown! Nobody who has ever gone into the whirpools caused by those islands has ever come out...do you understand that? Do you understand that we would lose you? Over something that may or may not even fucking be there!?" Dawn had small tears begin to trickle down her cheek as well.
It's pretty safe to say now that Frank and I both may have miscalculated the outcome of us telling everyone our plans. We were both expecting nothing but cheers from all around and a hell of a lot of morale support...but this had quickly gone in the opposite direction. Though it was clear to tell, they were both only yelling due to them fearing the worst possible outcome of this, Frank and I were both pretty equally a bit disappointed.
Suddenly Chris had stepped forward, taking a deep breath. "I gotta admit guys...they're...kinda right with all of this. Like hey, don't get me wrong, you guys like actually catching a legendary pokemon...I mean, well...it would be legendary!" He chuckled a bit at the end.
Ian had then stepped forward as well. "I agree with Chris and the girls. I mean...don't get me wrong guys, it definitely would be an incredible feat...but is it really all worth such a risk like that for something that, as Dawn had said, may not even really be there? I mean this is literally legends that you guys are about to try and chase down...you realise that there could be quite a bit of disappointment with this right?"
"Yeah...but there's also that little chance that it could be true! I mean...could you guys just imagine if we found them? And then if we actually caught them!? Oh man that would be crazy sick! Right?...R-Right guys?" I glance around the table, only to find that nobody except for me had actually been smiling. It had only succeeded in bringing down the last little bit of morale that I had left in me.
I shake my head and look over to Frank, who just lets out an exasperated sigh and shrugs in disappointment.
May and Dawn had started to actually cry a good bit for a few moments, before finally wiping the tears away and folding their arms in silence.
We all literally sat there in complete and awkward silence for about half an hour, before May and Dawn both stood up; Their eyes were still pretty bloodshot from crying.
"I...I think we're gonna go ahead and head home guys. It's...getting pretty late." May didn't even much as glance over towards us.
"Oh...are you sure? I mean...you could have all stayed here tonight if you really wanted to. We could have made pizza and popcorn and watched a movie or...played video games or...umm..." I looked up towards everyone, who still bore the same blank expressions on their faces. I decided it was probably best to just keep quiet and let them go for tonight.
Chris and Ian walk over to us and give us a little fisbump before walking over to the small area of open grass between the house and our pool; They had both remained silent as well.
Dawn and May had walked up to the two of us and hugged us both extremely tightly for a good two minutes or so. We had decide it best to just let them be and go along with it.
Suddenly Dawn had backed away and let out a big sigh, turning her attention away from me a bit. "Look I'm...sorry that I yelled at you guys. I just...I don't know what I'd do if we lost you. You're our best friends, we don't want to lose our best friends over something like this."
May backs away from Frank and shakes her head. "No, we don't. So please guys...promise us one thing, okay?"
Frank and I both look to one another accordingly, as if we couldn't already guess what the question would be, though we had both nodded along anyway.
"Please...PLEASE...promise us that you aren't going to go and do this. Promise?" May begged with puppy eyes.
Dawn instantly dashes over to her side to back her up with another set of equally and unfortunately adorable puppy eyes. "Pleeeeease?"
We both let out a heavy sigh, and once again just nod.
They both let out a sigh of relief and smile albeit a bit weakly. "Alright, good." Said Dawn.
"Well...we'll see you guys again soon okay? Just call us whenever you guys wanna hang out!" May calls out as she runs over towards Chris and his Flygon, with Dawn trailing shortly behind her, hopping onto Ian's dragonite.
They all lift into the air slowly and wave back down to us, smiling. We both give a weak little wave back and they take off shortly after.
As soon as they were completely out of sight, Frank and I had both looked to one another again and shook our heads.
"Man...they're going to be really fucking pissed at us after tomorrow." I said, a bit disappointed that I had to lie to them.
Frank slowly walks over to the door and opens it, holding it open briefly until I had grabbed it and walked in behind him. "Yeah...no kidding. But I mean...we have to do this man...ya know? I just...hope that they're going to forgive us for this one."
"Yeah man...me too." I shut the door behind me firmly and lock it, leting out a long exasperated sigh as I had done so. "I really hope they do."
And here it is, as promised! The previous Chapter actually would have been up much sooner during the day yesterday but alas, I had messed up. After I put the document onto my profile to be uploaded to my story...I didn't upload it -.-
I literally put it on my profile and was like "Yeah, time for the next one!" Thinking that I had actually posted it, like an idiot. So now with that, these two ended up being back to back after all pretty much! I've already started on the next one as well...so that one will be up fairly soon also. Whenever I can get some free time, I'll continue writing as much as possible every chance I get. I promise!
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed these as much as the rest! Keep on shooting me those reviews and let me know how I'm doing all the way through! It's always good to hear from you guys.
Stay Awesome!
