Days in competiton: 3
I yawned and squinted against the bright sunrise. For once I had a goodnight sleep without a rude awakening. And also for once life wasn't going to spite me as soon as I said it.
I looked around and noticed that, much to my surprise I was the first one awake unless Blake was faking it which was highly likely.
I stood up and stretched out my stiff muscles from the day before. The cool morning air was great and I knew it was going to be a great day, if I didn't have to go fighting in the next few hours.
I climbed up on top of the rubble and looked out to the forest and sighed. Today would probably consist of hunting down hunters. Only slightly ironic.
I pulled out my scroll and checked the list of players that had been eliminated. I recognized a few names but none that really worried me. We would be better off without Cardin in the ranks. I closed my scroll and sighed again. There was still a long way to go until the competition was over. But since I took out the supplies people would go down a lot faster since people would be eager to finish this up before they starved. I yawned again and climbed back down the rubble collected my stuff and started heading out. I took some snacks and left the rest for RWBY. Clearly Weiss, Blake, and Yang needed to talk more and it wouldn't help if I was trailing behind. Plus playing the assassin was pretty appealing right now.
Sitting up in a tree I looked down at a pair of students. One carried a dust revolver while the other had bladed knuckles. I set my blades with ice and launched two shots from my blades. Hitting one foot of the two people and immobilizing them for the time being. I jumped down from my tree and landed a few feet away, loading my blades with fire and igniting them.
"What the-"
"It's him!" I dashed forward and slashed the guy with the revolver with my fire blades before he could get a shot off. Luckily he must have had low aura already because once I hit him a few times he quickly dropped to the red.
I heard ice crack and I turned as I got slammed by the guy with bladed knuckles. I want to slash at him but he had disappeared. I looked around but couldn't see him. I was about to walk away when the bushes to my left rustled.
I quickly launched a fireball in that direction. As soon as I saw it land I dashed forward and slashed, causing the guy to become visible.
I quickly jumped back and pulled out my gun, quickly unloading the clip at my target and dropping his aura to the red.
I watched a ship flew overhead and picked up the two students. That made… what five so far? I checked my aura and saw that it was getting dangerously low. I turned and jogged off to the ruins where I spent the night with RWBY. I would recover there and go back to hunting. I had always been hunting people who were either by themselves or with one other person. So far the tactic had worked out extremely well and I managed to avoid getting taken out so far. It was just about noon and I thought about stopping for the day. I shrugged and started off to the ruins. I could decide whether or not I would continue later.
As I jogged through the forest I thought about the night before and about what had happened in the cave. The carvings were really but I wasn't all that surprised. Once you go to another world, learn about legends that involve you and get tortured for a month there isn't too much that can freak you out. Though I knew I probably just jinxed myself on that spot.
I disabled my blades and put my backpack on and broke into a run. There would be time to sit and think later. Right now I needed to be sure that I got back to the ruins before I got ambushed. At the moment I heard movement to my immediate right.
"Shit." I pulled out my blades and set them to ice, hoping I could immobilize my attackers and run off. Unfortunately for me two of the jumped out in front of me as the other two jumped from the sides. I tried to turn around but the four quickly surrounded me. My aura was already really low and I was up against four enemies. Not good.
I created a circle of ice around me and set my blades with fire. Hitting the ice and creating a lot of steam. I the moment of confusion a crazy thought occurred and I charged my blades with electricity. Moving fast I unleashed electricity and charged the steam with it, activating my semblance to avoid being shocked.
For a moment nothing happened. After a few second I started to panic. I was about to try to run when I heard a few surprised grunts and the sound of four people hitting the ground. I quickly dashed off before the steam finished dispersing. I just hoped I could find my way back to the ruins.
After a short minute of wandering I was completely lost. The four would probably be up soon so I needed to move.
"Hey! Let's go! We can't let him get away!" Yup they were moving. I flew up above the trees and tried to get a spot on the ruins.
"Hey! There he is!" Crap. I was about to drop back into the trees when a harpoon arrow hit my back.
"Not this again…" I dropped from the air and landed harshly on the forest floor. One more shot would defiantly remove me from the competition. But lucky for me I was pretty sure I had a lock on the ruins. Not that it would do me much good with a bunch of people on my tail again. None the less I took off toward the ruins in hopes I could lose them on the way there.
"Nope nope nope nope nope!" This was NOT working. I had done my best to try and lose my pursuers but I had only gained three more. So I was running from seven angry people. All of which still held a grudge against me for setting the supplies on fire. I dodged another harpoon arrow and ducked under a low branch, hitting the ground with ice as I went under. The ice slipped up one of the people but the other six simply ran around it. I was almost to the ruins but once I was there I had no idea what I was going to do. But since luck wasn't on my side I burst through the trees at that moment and ran straight off the cliff. Not fun.
I spread out my wings and dodged another harpoon arrow. I looked around for a place to hide and saw a hole in the cliff. I quickly dashed into the hole and hoped for the best.
"owowow…. Definitely not fun…" I sat inside the tunnel until my aura was up to half, which took a few hours.
After a quick nap I looked outside and sighed. They were probably still waiting for me. They were defiantly still angry about the fire.
"You have nowhere to go Nick!" Yup, still waiting.
"Dude, maybe he left."
"Left where? He's probably sitting on a ledge somewhere."
"We checked remember?"
"A cave then!"
"But-"
"Oh shut up. We've waited this long, we can continue to wait. There's four of us and one of him."
"Too bad the others left." Interesting, this defiantly evened the odds but I was still outmatched. If I was lucky I could beat them but my chances were pretty low. I sat around for a few more minutes to think and I was pretty sure I was just going to spend the night there. I could probably just wait them out.
"That's it, I'm tired of waiting."
"What do you mean?"
"You said he was in a cave right? Hand me your gun."
"Uh, okay?" I heard the guy walk to the edge of the cliff and change the weapon before a short moment of silence.
Next thing I knew there was a huge explosion and the cave I was in began to collapse, forcing me to jump out into the open and into the line of fire.
"There he is!" The guy handed his teammate his weapon back and pulled out a dust revolver. I quickly dodged an incoming missile and a few rounds from the revolver and shot out over the cliff. Loading my blades with ice and firing down a few shots. Only to watch their team leader load their revolver with fire and expertly shoot down my blasts of ice. As I dropped to the ground I got a quick look at my four enemies and knew this would be… Difficult.
The leader was definitely built to move. He had hardly any armor and could counter some of my elemental advantages with his pistol.
The guy next to him would defiantly be one to watch. He had decent armor and carried a mini gun that I knew from experience could turn into a rocket launcher.
In front of those two was what I assumed to be the tank of the group. He had on thick armor and had an anchor attached to a chain over his shoulder.
I got ready to fight and glanced around the forest. The fourth one was nowhere to be found and was undoubtedly waiting for an opening to strike. I only had half my aura and had to try to take down all four of these guys or at least try to create an opening so I could escape. But since I knew they had an assassin neither looked like good options.
I got into a crouch and slowly started circling around their tank. As I did the two guys on the other side mirrored my movements, keeping the tank in between us as the heavy changed his missile launcher back into a mini gun. I loaded my blades with electricity and launched a shot off at the tank. Only to watch it hit the tank with no effect. He didn't even flinch. Apparently he doesn't conduct electricity. I watched him grin and I sighed. This was going to be SO MUCH FUN!
I ignited my blades with fire and jumped to my right as the tank threw his anchor at me. I was about to launch a fireball when the heavy unleashed his mini gun at me, forcing me to jump back left so the tank was back in between us.
I stood and looked over the tank. I would have to find a way to deal with him. Everyone has a weakness. But then again, he wasn't pressuring me at all and the assassin idea was way more appealing than this.
I quickly turned around and began to run, narrowly dodging the anchor that would have pulled me back to the tank. I heard the leader shot for them to follow but I knew that the tank would only be able to move so fast. I glanced around the forest and thought about the assassin. He was around here somewhere I just needed to know where exactly he was.
"Jerry! Now!" I increased my speed in anticipation for the assassin. Only he never came. No Jerry in sight. I slowed to a stop and hid in a bush. I watched the leader and heavy jog up and look around as the tank caught up. "Jerry? Damn." Apparently something happened to jerry. Which meant…
Someone suddenly put a hand over my mouth and whispered.
"Don't move. Don't make a sound. Got it?" I nodded and they released my face. I turned to face them.
"Luna?" I whispered in shock. She nodded and pointed back at my enemies.
"We have our weapons back. Let us handle it. We already took one of them out." Luna disappeared back into the forest and I sat and looked out at me three enemies. That certainly explained the missing assassin. After a minute of following and waiting, team SLVN finally attacked.
"I'll have to admit." I walked out from the bushes after the team that SLVN had destroyed was picked up and taken away by a ship. "That was pretty cool."
"Pretty cool?" Violet pouted. "That was awesome" Summer looked at Violet and sighed.
"It still needs a bit of work."
"Well anyway, thanks for your help. I'm not sure I could have fully made it away from those guys if you hadn't shown up." Natalie grinned.
"Okay then, I guess you owe us." I really didn't like the look in her eye.
"C'mon Natalie." Summer put a hand on Natalie's shoulder. "He's a friend. He doesn't owe us anything." Natalie started to protest but Summer stopped her. "So anyway Nick, do you have a good place to stay? You must have somewhere if you've lasted this long." I nodded.
"I do, I think I know where it is from here. Follow me and hurry, before more people show up." Summer nodded and I sprinted off in the direction that I hoped that the ruins were in. Hoping that we wouldn't run into any more enemies, if we did it would probably end with me out of the competition. But this time luck was finally on my side.
We burst through the trees and looked over the ruins, slowing to a walk as I guided them over the pile of rubble and over to the pit where I grabbed some wood from a pile and lit up my blades. Using the fire to start burning the wood.
"So this is where you've been staying?" Violet asked. "It's not very nice."
"What else do you expect?" Luna asked. There aren't going to be any nice places in this forest. Plus there would be no time to make a nice place. Has anyone else found this place?" I nodded
"Team RWBY."
"Isn't that the team you're staying with?" Summer asked. "Why aren't they still here?"
"I don't know. There discussing something and I think it involves me but I don't know what it is." A short silence followed before Summer broke the silence.
"Well I'm sure it's nothing. And you'll get nothing from worrying about it. You can ask them about it once the competition is over." I nodded and checked my scroll.
"It won't be long before it's nighttime. I'll go grab some more wood." I stood up and climbed over the rubble, walking over to the forest and cutting down branches. It would defiantly be nice to be with a team again and hopefully it would last but I shouldn't count on it. This competition was pretty unpredictable. Maybe tomorrow I would be able to take out some more people. I was pretty sure that only a third of the students were left so maybe this would be over soon. On the other hand with less people we were less likely to run into anyone.
I picked up the branches I had been cutting down and took them back to the fire. Setting them to the side and sitting down in front of it when I realized that SLVN was eating.
"You have food?" Summer looked up at me.
"Yeah. We managed to collect a bunch out in the forest and from other people early on." Summer tossed me a bag and I opened it and started to eat. I had finished my snacks off quite awhile ago so this was great.
Once we all finished eating and we packed the extras we began to set up for the night. From what I could tell team SLVN had had a very long day so they would defiantly be getting to bed early. Something I could defiantly follow. Once we were all set up I walked to the back corner and watched the stars. The nights out here defiantly got me thinking, with the calm air and the unfamiliar star constellations.
I sighed and thought about my discussion I had with Gaia and they higher power for Remnant. I knew there was something that I needed to do but I had no idea what it was. The carvings I had seen in the cave were defiantly strange and I knew one of them represented me but since most of it was worn away it didn't do much to help me. I mean really. Why is it that whenever there is something that could tell someone what they need to do it just HAPPENS to be destroyed?
But then again it did help a little bit. I knew that I would probably be meeting up with another person, not that I knew when or what the fuck they were supposed to help me with if at all. I thought more about the carving of the two people in the cave and my head began to hurt. An image of an alleyway and a giant coin flashed in my mind.
I rubbed my temples and closed my eyes. This was so confusing. If only a magical voice could show up and tell me what was going on. Or at least when.
'It all begins tomorrow.' Why thank you magic voice. Wait, WHAT THE FUCK!? I sat bolt upright and thought frantically. Voice? Hello… Anyone home? I leaned back and hit my head on the wall. It was gone. But at least I knew something was happening tomorrow.
I closed my eyes again and went to sleep. I was defiantly confused. And with this event I didn't know if I should have less questions or more. I guess I would know tomorrow.
