CHAPTER 29

Tris POV

It's already Sunday. How fast time passed. And I'm going to spend the whole day with Tobias. At the carnival not far from here. As I was fixing my hair, someone passed behind me. I saw her reflection.

"Where are you going?" she asked curiously. "Out," I answered, flattening the invisible creases on my jeans. "Wait what?! You almost never fix your hair, Tris," she said, shocked. "Yeah, I know," I shrugged.

"Oh my God, Tris! A date with who?" she asks excitedly. I shrugged. "No one special," I answered. No one special my ass. "No. One. Special? You're dressing up like this for no one special? Huh," she says. I don't know why she can't just let it pass.

"Please, Chris. I have to go. Talk to ya later, bye!" I said before dashing out of the room. She's not as crazy to trail after me on my 'date', is she? It's not exactly a date, just two friends hanging out….

I walked a few blocks from the school, where Tobias said he'll meet me. And sure enough, he was already there. I was hoping he won't notice I was trying.

Tobias, is wearing a black shirt and black jeans and is stunningly hot! Or maybe it's just because I'm standing beneath the scorching sun. "So, ready?" he asks. "Ready," I grinned.

Hand in hand, we started walking.

There were pink and blue cotton sweet things, a 'fun house' and people. Not that I'm against human, I hate everywhere crowded and full of people. And creatures alike.

Most of the games we played there was of course won by the king of jerks. He's on crack, I tell you. He was always grinning that people shot him confused and weird looks. But the thing that surprised me most, is how he didn't flirt with the skin-exposed curvy girls hanging around, waiting to flirt with other bypassing guys. The way they dress reminds me of honey attracting flies. Except that they sure aren't honey. More like side garbage attracting flies, right? Sluts.

Please, are you guys really that poor to buy enough clothing?

Tobias bought 'cotton candy,' and some of it got stuck in my hair. I probably look like a lioness right now, with pink fluffy candy sticking to parts of my hair. And him, being the jerk he is, just laughed his ass off.

But the way he looks at me, is out of this world. I'm still unsure how he feels. I made a mental note to ask him some time later.

And finally, after forever, Tobias dragged me into the haunted house, after waiting in line for so long. By then, it is nearly sunset.

When we first entered, it was dark. I can only make out shapes. A few seconds of walking, I heard a girl scream. It made my hair stand on end. A flash went by. Something moved fast on my left, and I only clutched Tobias' arm tighter.

"You're shaking," he commented. "You don't say," I rolled my eyes. That's the thing about me. I can still be sarcastic in the worst of times.

Suddenly, someone grabbed my leg, making me let out a shriek. Another grabbed my left arm. I can make out a shadow reaching out. In the dark, it looks like faceless men reaching out for me. I screamed my loudest and heard three bodies fall on the floor. Breathe. Breathe.

The next second someone grabbed my arm and pulled me fast. I struggled until I saw the last rays of sunlight before the sun sets. We're finally out. "Let me go! Let go!" I shouted, punching everywhere. My fist connected with something hard.

"Ow!" I said, rubbing my already red knuckles.

"Relax, it's just me. Tobias," he said calmly. He was holding his flat stomach. "I'm sorry," I said apologetically. He shook his head and took my hand. "Damn, you're hurt more than I am," he observed. "Is that supposed to translate to 'you're so weak you hurt your hand while punching my awesome abs'?" I asked, pulling my hand back. I was still breathing heavily.

He chuckled. "You're impossible," he shook his head. "What's that supposed to mean?!" my nose flared. "Chill out," he answered, backing away slightly.

Ha, fake being scared. Nice, Four. "It never crossed my mind an angel could be scared of literally everything," he said, smirking.

"I didn't think a devil could be scared either. Alto phobic jerk," I snapped back, gritting my teeth. He raised an eyebrow. Isn't he the slightest bit mad that I kind of insulted him?

The all-too-familiar smirk was back. "Asshole," I muttered. "Love you too, babe," he chuckled. I just rolled my eyes. He didn't mean it. He didn't.

I walked away from him, not caring whether he was following me or not. "Hey, wait up!" he shouted from behind. Being Tris Prior, I ignored him. I kind of lost him, because of the crowd. Walking a little further, I spotted a gang of big guys. Like big, big. All muscly and tattoos, and let's just say I'm genuinely scared, again.

Making a 180 degrees turn, I walked into the open arms of the guy I was looking for. His chest vibrated as his chuckle sounded. "Not funny jerk," I said into his shirt. It smells like sweat and him. And I'm attracted to it. I feel safe now.

"Didn't say it was," he said. I can feel him smiling. My lips curved upwards naturally.

"Yum, the cotton candy in your hair is really tempting," he whispered.

"Ew! Back off!" I pushed him away from me. So unbelievable. He just stood there, apparently knowing I wouldn't walk anywhere alone. I grumbled and scrunched my nose before walking back to him.

He happily took my hand as we walked, enjoying the evening air. A soft breeze cooled my sweaty face and neck. I am starting to think I actually know what's going on.

Don't judge, but they say I am too. I don't want to -.- I'd rather go to school, not being noticed and graduate. I just didn't think anyone would notice, but okay.
