"Move!"

Marble hands held on to me as I furiously tried to scratch at the burning sensation ripping through my body. I began to thrash my head like crazy.

"He's going to break his neck!" Ella screamed.

Suddenly my head was locked between something. I screamed and screamed unable to do anything else.

"It's going to pass." Riley said.

"Can't you guys like, give him something?"

"That's not how it works."

"It hasn't even been a day." Ella whispered and I could feel her hand caressing my face.

I was as puddle of sweat and the last thing I wanted was to be touched, but I couldn't say anything. All I could do was grind my teeth.

"It's all part of the process."

"I know."

I could feel the cold night air start to creep into the cabin and I welcomed it in. It was soothing my aching body, but the pain remained. Ella and Riley talked quietly for most of the night, but I couldn't concentrate on that. All I saw was fire in my brain, fire all over my body. When the pain got too hard my body would just lock up and it felt like I would stop breathing.

"He's going to be like this for hours. You need sleep."

"Since when do you care about me, huh?"

I continued to block them out. They just reminded me of what I was missing. Edward should be here. I shouldn't be going through this alone. I just thought back to how alone I had been back in Arizona. No friends. There was no single person I could really talk to. My mom was too crazy and most of the time I was taking care of her. I didn't get to be a kid for so long until I came to Forks.

I got to feel what it was like to be a teenager with no responsibilities. I made friends and actually went places. I met Edward and despite our history I wouldn't change any of it, not even now. I would gladly go through this again if the outcome was still the same, be with Edward. I want to live life; I want to keep living life.

"One day down." Ella said.

She sounded so tired and I felt bad. We were strangers that somehow were now tied together. She shouldn't be here and much less taking care of me. Victoria intended for me to kill her.

"Sleep." I croaked.

I was surprised by the sound of my voice. I did not sound okay.

"Listen to him." Riley said. "I got it."

Time began to blur together after that. It felt endless. I wanted it all to be over, but it was far from it. Ella kept track for me. She would tell me the time in four-hour intervals and somehow that helped. She got me to talk as much as the pain would allow.

She asked about Edward. She wanted to know what where all the things I loved about him. She asked about Jacob. She wanted to know what made him such a good friend. She asked about my family and my favorite childhood memories. She asked about the Cullens and the pack. I told her everything. I told her about the Volturi and the story behind Victoria.

"Day two is down."

It was wonders to my ears, but as quickly as she said that I was reminded again what I was being changed for.

"You… need to… escape." I said struggling for breath.

"You know I wouldn't make it out the front door."

I wasn't thrashing anymore. The convulsions had stopped four hours ago and now all I felt was an uncomfortable heat. Riley had left right after that and left us alone a while ago. I wondered if maybe he had done that on purpose. As far as I could tell it was only Victoria and Riley here, but Victoria had not come back since she changed me.

"Try." I begged.

"I'm scared."

"Riley wouldn't… hurt you."

Riley must have been changed first because he did not act like Jasper said newborns did. He had spent so much time around us and he hadn't attacked us. He treated Ella so well. He made sure she was fed and warm. That didn't seem like something Victoria would ask him to do. He was doing that on his own.

"Victoria will."

I couldn't say anything after that. She was right. Her only options where killed by Victoria or me. I felt so hopeless!

"I wouldn't be so close to him." Victoria said. "His body has already changed. Now it's his senses and you'll only make him want to kill you more by tempting him with your blood."

"Isn't that what you want?"

"I don't want it to be so fast. I'm hoping to give Edward a show."

I heard Ella yelp then and I wanted to open my eyes, but not one single part of my body could move. I was stiff.

Suddenly I was aware of my new senses. I was hearing things that I hadn't before. I could hear Riley pacing like crazy outside of the cabin. I could hear Ella's beating heart and her quickened pulse. She was terrified.

I could hear the branches swaying against the strong winds. I could smell the snow and dirt that surrounded us. We were up in the mountains.

"You're not going to win! Edward and Jacob will save Cio in time…"

I heard Ella being slammed against the wall as it vibrated the whole house, but she hadn't slammed her hard. I could just hear the small creaks the wood made. Riley had flashed to the door, but didn't dare open the door. He stood just outside of it, his hand hovering over the doorknob.

It was crazy being able to see without eyes. It was all out of hearing.

"You're lucky that you're my little lamb otherwise I would have taken care of you, don't tempt me little girl."

"I… I… Can't…"

Ella couldn't breath and I could hear her heart slow down to an uncomfortable pace. I heard Riley's hand on the doorknob now. Victoria let got of Ella then and I knew she was knocked unconscious from the lack of oxygen.

"I'm starving now." Victoria sighed and then walked over to me. "Maybe I should have killed you and savored your blood."

"Too… late." I groaned in a lame attempt to laugh at her.

"Oh, don't be mistaken boy. I will kill you." She growled into my ear. "I'm just going to have fun with Edward first."

"I'm going to… kill you… first."

She let out a cackling laugh and then I felt her foot on my neck. My instinct was to try and push her off, but my body wouldn't move.

"You're going to kill, but not me." She said and then pulled away. "I'll make sure that by the time you come to your senses you've murdered that stupid girl and your sweetheart Edward. I'm hoping that mutt will be here too. Now that would be quite a show."

"Never."

"I'm going to explain this to you one more time." She said as she walked over to the door, ready to take her leave. "When you open your eyes you won't know the difference between enemy and foe. I'll stand back and watch you kill that girl first. Then I'll watch as Edward comes to your rescue only to be ripped apart by you. That mutt would be dessert to you."

"Edward wouldn't… let that… happen."

"Let's say you don't kill him. That just means that you're a monster like all of us. You think he would want you after that? After his innocent human mate turned into a murderer and killed this girl. Could you live with yourself?"

I didn't say anything after that. She laughed hysterically and left.

Riley was in here now cradling Ella. I paid them no mind as I thought about what Victoria said.

I couldn't live with myself if I killed Ella. How would Edward still want to be with me if I became what he detested most out of himself? He'd spend years running from what he perceived as disgusting and the most painful part of his history. How would he look at me knowing that I had become what he feared?

If I killed a human would Jake have to kill me? God, please make sure Jacob is nowhere near here. Sam would bind him to kill any of us newborns.

That's all I could think about and suddenly it felt like time was passing by too fast. I could tell by how different my body felt now. It was as if I was coming back to life. My joints felt a lot looser and I could feel my body start to twitch. I needed to move, I wanted to move.

There was movement and my nostrils flared. I did not like that my space was being invaded. I clenched my hands and suddenly felt like I was forgetting something important, but nothing mattered. The space felt too small and I needed to get out of there.

"Don't touch him."

Who the fuck was that?

I let out a growl as my only defense. Who ever it was I was going to kill them, I wanted to kill them.

"Cio."

I felt a hand on my chest and I quickly grabbed. There was a loud scream and they were ripped away from me. They were whispering as if I couldn't hear them.

"I have to get you out of here now."

"I thought you were on her side?"

I was distracted by a smell. A very addicting smell that traveled up my nostrils and seemed to spread until it was the only thing my brain could think about. I wanted it.

"He's waking up."

The other two people seemed to freeze at the arrival of the woman. I snarled not wanting another person with me in this space. There were too many people and I needed to get rid of them all.

"Victoria, we won't be able to control him."

"Shut up. Go distract the others. We just need more time and everything will go according to plan."

"You hear that Cio? They're coming for you! Just hold on a bit longer."

I needed these people gone! I wanted that smell! I needed it now!

"Riley, go now."

Now there were only three of us. I opened my eyes and took in my surroundings. I automatically scanned for my exit route. I found three windows and one door. I just needed to get through these two. I sat up and there was a shriek.

I turned and saw the root of the smell.

She crawled away from me as I followed her. Yes, she was the source of the smell. Then there was movement in the corner of the room and I turned.

There was a red head and she stepped away from me, backing up giving me space. I turned to the girl who was now standing up and pressing herself against the wall as if she could blend in.

"It's me Ella." She whimpered.

"What are you?" I asked confused by her smell.

Why did she smell delicious?

"She's food." The red head answered.

"No… No, I'm not. Edward will be here. You remember Edward?"

I tilted my head at her words. I didn't care one bit of what she was telling me as I stood in front of her. She buckled out of surprise and I held her up, as I smelled her making sure it was what I wanted.

Yes, this was it.

'Stop! Stop!'

I growled at my thoughts, but pushed through, as I seemed to be fighting with my own body.

"I… I can't… breath." The girl said.

I realized that my hand was on her neck and I was crushing it. I pulled my hand away confused.

"Kill her!"

I turned to the redhead. She was pissing me off! Nobody tells me what to do. I threw the girl to the side and jumped towards the other woman. We crashed through the wall and landed on snow as we scratched at each other. I didn't know what I was supposed to do, but I wanted to kill her. I wanted her to shut the fuck up!

"Victoria!"

Suddenly a different person tackled me. I recognized his scent as that of the other male in the room. Riley.

I scrambled to my feet and took in the surroundings. There were way more people now and there was a stench in the air, it wasn't close. I don't know what it was, but it was coming towards us and fast. One made a move towards me and I growled at him, I didn't recognize him.

He was suddenly attacked by who I assumed to be Victoria. Riley was right on him too. I had this strong sense to kill, to fight too. The girl walked out of the cabin and it was the only thing I cared about now.

"Cio, no!"

I caught her by her shoulders and went for her neck. I could feel her flesh in my mouth, but I didn't get to bite her as I was flung in the sky. I maneuvered my body right in the air and landed facing my new opponent.

"This is not you." The bronze haired boy said. "C'mon Cio. Remember."

I was going to kill him. I needed him to die.

I darted towards him and grabbed him by his leg slamming him into the snow. He twisted around and kicked me in the chest. I flipped and kicked off the ground flying back towards him.

"This is even better!" A woman said laughing.

I caught the boy by his shoulders and squeezed with all my strength. He screamed in pain and used his legs to push me over. He couldn't use his arms.

"Cio! Stop! That's Edward!"

I grabbed the boy by his hair and then there was an overwhelming smell. It was the girl she was bleeding. She was there just at my fingertips when my body was suddenly in the mouth of a giant animal. I lay motionless as the animal growled at me and I coward away from it.

"Jacob I need you over here!"

Stunned still I followed the animal with my eyes as it walked back to the bronze haired boy who now had Victoria in a headlock. I watched as the wolf bit her head off.

'Edward.'

I did know him. All of them.

"Edward." I said.

It didn't even sound like me. There was softness in my voice that wasn't there before.

"Cio." He sighed relieved and crushed me against him.

"I almost killed you." I said as I pulled away and inspected his body. "Nothings broken? Missing?"

"My wounds have healed already."

"Ella!"

I scanned the clearing, but we were the only ones here.

"Jacob took her away. She's fine."

I could still smell her and my body wanted to follow.

"I need to get out of here."

I ran the opposite direction of the smell and I could feel Edward behind me. I caught a deer instantly and drank until there wasn't anything left. Satisfied I fell to the ground and closed my eyes. I couldn't believe that I almost did just as Victoria said I would.

"How are you feeling?"

This is when I wished he could read my mind. I don't know if I could say anything. I was so ashamed of myself. I thought I would have been so much stronger.

"What did you say?" Edward asked suddenly.

"I didn't say anything."

He pulled me up and made me face him.

"You're ashamed of yourself."

"I didn't say that out loud." I said. "Can you read my mind?"

He stared deeply into my eyes and I thought about how much I wanted to kiss him. How much I wanted to be comforted right now, but I knew I couldn't be.

"Nothing." He sighed.

"That's weird. You definitely heard part of my thoughts."

"You have nothing to be ashamed about. You just ran away from human blood. No one would have been able to do that. The pull is too strong."

"You did it once." I said thinking back to how much my blood called to him.

"But I had more self control than you. Do not minimize this big stepping stone."

"What's going to happen now?" I asked.

"We have to go back to my family. Alice saw the Volturi coming."

"Why?" I asked.

"They must have heard about the killings. They make sure that there are no risk of exposure to our kind."

"Well, how convenient of them to show up after the battle is done."

"Don't say that in front of them." Edward warned. "They were probably hoping that some of us were taken care by the newborns."

"They want you dead? Since when?"

"No. They would rather have us on their side, but Alice and I have refused many times."

"Oh, because of your special powers."

"Yeah."

"Well Aro will be glad to see that I'm changed."

"Let's hurry." He said and took off.

I followed closely behind him.

"What's going to happen to Ella?" I asked.

"Jacob is going to take good care of her."

"He is?" I asked.

"Definitely." Edward said with a small chuckle.

"What aren't you telling me?" I asked.

"Jacob imprinted."

"What?" I asked surprised. "On Ella?"

Edward simply nodded as we reached the others.

"I see that you've been changed." Jane said.

"All part of Victoria's plot." I said.

"I assume you have taken care of her?"

"Yes." Edward answered.

There was an awkward silence as she eyed all of us. I could see that she didn't completely trust us or believe us.

"Aro will be pleased to know that our intervention was not needed and the boy has been turned."

"We appreciate you guys coming to check in. Please send Aro our best regards." Carlisle said.

"I will."

All four of them took their leave then. Alice embraced me in a tight hug.

"You look great." She said.

"Welcome to the family." Emmett said as he patted my back.

"Did you already feed?" Jasper asked.

"Yeah."

"I'm pretty sure you want to rest now." Esme said as she hugged me. "A lot happened in one day."

"Let's go home." Carlisle said.

I followed after them. This was it; this was the start of my new life. It almost didn't feel real as if it was all a dream.

I still had so many questions.

What did they tell my dad? Does he think I'm dead?

What's going to happen with Jacob? How was Ella taking all this information?

Then there was Edward, where did all of this leave us?

All these thoughts were driving me crazy. I just wanted the ground to swallow me up.

"Jacob is here." Edward said.

I followed his eyes and saw him outside of the Cullen's home. Everyone else had already disappeared. Edward hesitated, but left us alone too.

"Hey." Jacob said as I reached him.

"You do smell." I said wrinkling my nose.

"You don't smell great other punk." He laughed as we embraced each other.

"I'm glad you're okay."

"Too tight." He said.

"Sorry."

"I'm glad you're okay too."

"I bet you're more glad that I didn't kill your imprint." I joked.

"Honestly it still gives me the chills thinking about it." He said.

"So how did it happen?"

"It was right after I helped Edward kill Victoria. I walked over to the girl because I saw Edward go to you. We locked eyes and it was exactly like the others said. Suddenly it wasn't gravity holding me down it was her. It was like I had found my purpose on this world, I felt whole."

"Wow." I said. "How did she take it?"

"She's really confused, but she hasn't left running yet. I think that's a good sign."

"Have you guys talked about it more in depth?"

"I didn't really get to say too much. I came here as soon as I could. I just needed to make sure you were okay."

"Who would have thought this is how it would all end?"

"We both get our happily ever after. I think that's good."

"I'm glad that you're happy. I can't wait to get all the sappy family postcards from you." I teased.

"Let's take it slow, alright?" He laughed. "I don't even know her last name yet."

"Is she in the reservation?"

"No. I took her to the hospital to get her arm checked out. She cut herself really deep."

"To distract me from killing Edward." I said.

"Yeah."

"So what's the story? What does everyone think happened to us?" I asked.

"The Cullen's started a fire in the wing you were staying in. They made sure people had time to get out. There were only three people not accounted for once the police arrived."

"My dad was there?"

"Yeah. It was pronounced that all three of you perished in the fire, but Charlie wouldn't give up investigating. In his search of the area he found a hairclip that belonged to Ella outside and a lot footsteps. He came to the conclusion that you must of ran disoriented from the fire and didn't give up hope of finding you."

"Oh my god."

"The Cullens and I didn't think Ella would survive. When I took her it was decided to have her say she ran off by herself and got lost in the mountains unable to make her way back."

"How did my dad take it?" I asked.

"I didn't step in with her. It would tie me too much to everything. I don't know if you're father has been notified yet. I'm sorry."

"My heart is breaking." I whimpered, but unable to cry.

He placed an arm around my shoulders and gave them a tight squeeze. I leaned into him and just stayed still. It was bittersweet. I would not have Jacob in my life again. I knew this would be our last meeting.

"You're going to be okay." He reassured me.

I nodded and pulled away from him. He took his leave then and I knew he was going to shift.

"I still expect those family postcards!" I screamed after him as he ran off.

He turned back giving me a wide smile and laugh as he turned into a wolf.

There was still so much more that I needed to do before I fully cut ties with my mortal life. I knew the Cullens planned to move for my first year to a more secluded area in Alaska to give me more privacy to adjust.

But I still felt like I needed to stay in Forks.

I couldn't leave yet.
