Beth had a restless night's sleep, thinking only of the events of the last few days particularly that actual day. Even though she knew he was going to be alright, she could not shake the image of Neil's body lying motionless on the floor. And now she was going to have to leave him. She sighed and rolled over to face the door where the doctor had just entered. She remained quiet throughout the examination, only answering his questions and didn't even react when he told her she was discharged, just merely nodded. She got dressed and waited for her escort and transport to arrive, hoping against hope that her request to see Neil was granted. Her face lit up when she saw Gina come through the door followed by her escort.

'Hi.'

'How are you feeling today?' Gina asked.

'Better. Can I see Neil?' Gina shook her head. 'I'm sorry, but we couldn't authorise it.' Beth broke down, the emotions of the last few days finally breaking through with this latest bit of news.

'Hey. Shhh. You can't go see him, but there is something we can do.' Beth looked up at Gina expectedly. 'Smithy's gone down there, going to video call me any time…' Gina's phone rang. 'That'll be him now. So dry your tears.' Beth dabbed furiously at her eyes, as Gina answered the phone.

'I'm there now Smithy, put him on. Hello Neil. She's here.' Gina passed the phone over to Beth, 'I'll leave you two to it, but you will have to leave in 30 minutes is that Ok?' Beth nodded, fresh tears filling her eyes as she looked at the image of her beloved Neil.

'Im so sorry, Neil. It's all my fault.' Beth burst in to loud sobs as soon as the door clicked shut behind Gina. Neil shook his head furiously.

'No, Beth. None of this is your fault. It just happened. It was Gambon and his men. You did the best you could.' It was Beth's turn to shake her head now.

'No, everyone keeps saying that, but it's not true. Everyone got hurt trying to protect me, Sarah and Jerry died and you were shot because of me. I'm not worth it.' Neil's heart broke, as he saw her collapse with grief and guilt, and he was unable to do a single thing to comfort her. Tears trickled down his face, as he battled to stay strong for her.

'Beth, we all knew what we were doing, we were all doing our jobs, as were you. If it wasn't for you more innocent girls like Cassie could be in danger, more people being prostituted, more drugs on the street causing deaths. You stopped that. Because of you, Gambon and De Flaire, will eventually be brought down. It's just going to take time that's all. But it'll be worth it. You just have to be brave.' Neil swallowed back his tears, fighting to see the image of Beth through his veil of tears.

'I can't be strong without you.' He gave a small smile.

'Ridiculous. You're the strong one out of us. You're the one who's kept me going.' Beth shook her head.

'No. I'm the one that caused you to have to leave your family behind and now you're going to have to do it again.'

'Beth. I chose to get involved, there was no way I was letting you do this on your own. I cared too much, and now… Now, I love you. And you know what?' Beth shook her head. 'I would do it all again, everything, all the danger, all the trauma, all of it, if it meant I got you. You are worth it all.' Beth felt her heart break even more than it already was, which she had thought was impossible. What on earth had she done, to get a man like Neil? She didn't deserve him. He was too good for her.

'I'm not worth it. You're better off without me.' It was Neil's turn to shake his head.

'Rubbish. And stop thinking that. Life might be a bit less dangerous, but before you I wasn't living. Not really. I woke up, went to work, got home and went to bed. With you, I've finally got a reason to live. You are my world, the air I breathe, the reason I get up in the morning and you're the reason I'm going to get through all this time away, because I know that at the end of it all, I get to have you as my Wife and that is worth every single thing that has happened, and I would do it all again. So me and you, we're going to survive this, ok?' Beth nodded, stunned by his love for her. She felt the same way of course, but she had no idea his love for her ran quite so deep. 'Good, because our love is so strong it will survive no matter how long we're apart.' A sudden thought struck Beth with fear.

'But…but what if we meet other people? What if you meet someone else, while we're apart?' Neil gulped, he'd thought this himself but then he remember that saying, that true love will find a way, and that was what he and Beth had; true love.

'Beth, listen to me. It doesn't matter how long we're apart, how many people we meet, how many times we fall in love, we will always, always be soul mates and we will find a way, even if it takes decades, which I'm sure it won't, but we will find a way.' Beth smiled, and placed her hand on the screen.

'I love you, Neil Manson.'

'I love you too, Beth Green. I have an idea. It's not a proper wedding, but right he right now, let's exchange vows.'

'What?'

'You heard me. No matter what happens, we will always be married, connected in some way, a way that can't be broken. You for it?' Beth nodded. 'Ok, I'll go first. I Neil Manson, promise you Beth Green that no matter what happens, no matter how many miles or years between us that I will stay true to our love. That I will never forget you, and that when fate allows it, I will return to you and we will resume where we left off and that everyday apart will only strengthen my love for you. For you are my soul mate, my other half, my missing piece and without you I wouldn't be complete and I promise that my love for you is unbreakable and will last eternally, even …. even through death.' Beth sobbed at the last bit, as did Neil, his voice breaking as he said the words, they both knew death of one or both of them before they were united was a viable option, and she just prayed it wouldn't happen.

Beth gulped before speaking her promise, 'I Beth Green, promise you Neil Manson that I will always love you, no matter what happens or where we are.' She blinked back tears at the thought that this was it, this was their goodbye and that it might truly be it for them. 'And even if…' she paused but knew she had to say it, 'even if we've moved on to other people, I will always love you first and foremost. Always.' Her voice broke off as she let out loud sobs and buried her head in her hands.

'Shhhh, Beth, baby shhhh. It'll be Ok, we'll always be together. Look at me Beth. Look at me.' She lifted her head slightly and tried to focus through bleary eyes at the screen. 'We will always be together Beth, in here.' He pressed his hand to his heart. 'Always.' Beth nodded and echoed his sentiment.

They sat silently for a few moments before Smithy came back into view, apologising profusely but insisting it was time for Neil to get going. Beth nodded, it was nearly time for her as well.

'I've gotta go now Beth, but remember. It's not over. I will always love you. Always.' With that he kissed the screen goodbye and ended the call, leaving Beth alone with her tears until Gina came in and escorted her to the car that would take her to her new life and away from Neil.
