Munchkin Chapter 29

"Ok, Munchkin, let's get these groceries in and then get ready for your Daddy to come home." Snow said, mostly to herself as she mentally put a to do list together in her head.

"When does Daddy come home?" Emma asked from the backseat.

"In an hour, sweetie." Snow answered with a smile.

Emma smiled big at her answer and then tried to get out of her seat. "I stuck, Mommy." Emma complained with a frown.

"That's because you need to wait for Mommy to help you." Snow said with a chuckle before getting out of the car.

Snow quickly unbuckled Emma and got her out of the car. She took her hand right away before leading them to the other side of the car to get Neal.

After two more trips to the car, Snow had all the groceries in and started to prepare for their picnic. Emma was playing on the floor with Neal laying on a blanket beside her. Snow kept an eye on them as she worked.

"When is Daddy coming home?" Emma asked, fifteen minutes after they arrived home.

"In a little bit, sweetie." Snow answered.

Five minutes later….

"Daddy here yet?" Emma asked.

"Emma, Daddy will be here when he gets here." Snow said softly.

"Soon?"

"Yes, soon."

"K."

Fifteen minutes later….

Emma walked over to her mother with a frown. "Why Daddy not here?"

"Emma, Daddy is coming home in about 20 minutes."

"That long?" Emma asked with a frown.

"That's not that long. Why don't you go play with your brother again?"

"Okay, but I want Daddy home now." Emma said as she walked back to her brother.

Snow shook her head as Emma sulked back over to her brother. She really hoped that Emma wouldn't get in a bad mood. She had been pretty good all day so far and she was hoping that good mood would continue for their picnic.

David opened the apartment door and before he got two steps in and a little body crashed into him.

"Daddy!"

"Hey munchkin, how have you been?" David asked after he picked her up in his arms.

"Good Daddy." Emma answered as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

David smiled as he walked over to his wife with Emma in his arms. "I'm loving the pigtails."

"She wanted them." Snow said with a smile.

David tried hard not to chuckle at what big Emma would think of her little self's choice. "They are adorable."

"They are." Snow agreed with a loving smile at her daughter.

"So are we ready to go?" David asked as he turned his attention to his wife.

"Yes, we just have to get this basket out to the car. Then I have to get a bag for Emma ready." Snow responded as she went to get a bag together.

"I no need no bag." Emma said with a frown. "Where we going?"

"It's a surprise, pumpkin." David said before putting her down on her own two feet before going to get the basket for their picnic.

"Daddy, I help you." Emma said determined.

David looked at her with kind eyes before finding something small for her to carry. "Can you carry this down?" He handed her the tablecloth they would use for their picnic.

"Yes, Daddy!" Emma said in excitement as she took it.

"Snow, Emma is coming down to the car with me." David called to his wife.

"Okay. Emma listen to your father and don't run off."

"O'tay, Mommy." Emma said as she walked beside her Daddy.

"Ready?" David asked as he held Emma on his hip. Emma was smiling from ear to ear with pink cheeks.

Snow smiled softly at the sight before nodding as she grabbed Neal's diaper bag and the carseat with Neal in it.

"Leavin' now?" Emma asked.

"Yes we are, Em." David answered with a grin.

"Another horsey ride, Daddy?" Emma asked with a huge grin and Snow now knew why Emma was so excited when they came in the

"Hm…" David pretended to think about her request. "If someone said please, I think that could be arranged."

"O'tay, O'tay! Please can I have a horsey ride, Daddy?"

"Yes you may, Princess." David answered before helping her onto his back so she could hang onto his neck and wrap her legs around him. "Ready?"

"Yes!" Emma exclaimed.

David rushed off in front of Snow and down the stairs.

Snow chuckled as she followed and closed the loft door. "Your Daddy and sister are a bit crazy at times, but we love them anyway!"

"I'll go bring him in if you will stay with Emma." Snow said as they pulled up to Regina's house.

David nodded in agreement. "We'll be here waiting."

After Snow had left with Neal, Emma looked up at her father in the rearview mirror with a confused look. "Where are Mommy and Neal going?"

"Neal is going to stay with Regina while we go eat. Mommy will be back in a minute." David explained softly.

When David did hear a response from Emma, he looked back to see her looking towards Regina's house with a frown on her face.

"Emma, we will see him and Regina later on." David said softly to her.

"But, Neal will come home with us, later won't he?" Emma asked with fear evident in her voice.

"Of course, baby. Neal and you will always be with us." David said sincerely, wondering if she was relating this event to her own life of being tossed around from family to family.

"You promise?"

"I promise."

"O'tay."

They stopped by the school and David got out this time to go check his grandson out of school. A few minutes later, David comes out of the building with his arm slung around his grandson.

"Henwe!" Emma exclaimed loudly.

"Yes, Henry is coming with us." Snow said with a grin for making Emma happy.

Henry got in the car with a huge grin. He was happy to be out of school and getting to have some family time. He loved little Emma, but he did miss his mom so it was bittersweet moment when he saw his shrunken mom again.

"So where are we going?" Henry asked after buckling up.

"Just wait and see." David answered.

"Gramps, come on!" Henry answered.

"Did you know your grandson was texting in class?" David said to Snow.

"You texted me first!" Henry said with a laugh.

"Henry, you know you aren't suppose to be texting in class!" Snow teased.

Henry rolled his eyes as his grandparents ganged up on him. "Help me please, Emma!" Henry pleaded with a smile.

"Top it!" Emma said to her parents in a serious voice. She didn't understand what was going on, but she didn't like that they were being mean to Henry. A few tears escaped her eyes and fell down her cheeks.

"Oh Emma, were just teasing Henry." Snow said as she saw that Emma was crying in her carseat.

"Yeah, Emma. It's okay they were just joking with me. I'm fine." Henry tried to explain.

"You sure?" Emma asked through her tears.

"Yes." Henry said with a smile as he reached over and took her tiny hand in his hand.

"O'tay." Emma said as she rubbed her eyes.

David looked over at Snow after looking at Emma through the mirror with a look of complete awe of his little daughter. She was so darn cute and it was overwhelming his heart.
