Ch 29

Cass and Bobby had been sitting in the truck in complete silence for what felt like a life time.

"Soooo….are you gonna talk or should I just get out and start walking home?" Cass was still feeling hurt and now annoyed.

Bobby sighed and wring his right hand down his face. "The problem is, is that I don't know what's wrong."

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is, is that I went and had some tests done the last time the three of you went on a short trip and I haven't gotten any results yet."

"What kind of tests?"

"I think the question would be what kind of tests DIDN'T they do."

"Why not just ask Castiel to heal you?"

"His juice is short. I can't have him use it on me, when I'd rather you someone with some extra power around to help you more than me."

"You think that matters to us?! We've faced crap without him once we can do it again…I don't know if we can do so without you though…you've ALWAYS been there…"

"Thanks for letting my age show kid."

Cass had a small smile break out on her face only for to fade as fast it had grown. "So…when do you find out then?"

"I should know by the end of the week…and just so you know, whatever it is…I'm not just gonna roll over and kick the bucket. I'm going to fight whatever it is."

"The right way? You're not gonna off to Crowley or some other cross roads demon to make a deal?"

"I won't if YOU AND THE BOYS won't…"

Cass bit her lip. How could she make a promise to let him die if that's what it came down to?

"Look…I'm sure it's nothing. They'll probably give me some meds and send me on my way. That's what the doctors tend to be best at…ok?...Look, I don't want you tellin' the boys nothin'. Ya hear?"

"But why? You know they would want to know about this too."

"You all have enough to worry about without worrying about me too."

"Like hardly anything would take importance over you…idgit."

Bobby wore a smirk. "Alright, at least don't say anything until AFTER I find out what's going on at least…deal?"

"Fine…deal…"

They drove back to the house to find the boys still up doing some research, beers in hand.

"Find anything interesting?" Cass asked as she entered the study with the boys.

"Not any more than we already had," Sam replied.

Cass nodded her head as she headed for the kitchen to grab a cold one herself. She turned out of the fridge to find Dean standing there leaning against the wall watching her.

"See anything you like?" Cass asked trying to lighten the tension in the room. She knew that Dean knew something was up. Hell, both the boys did, but Dean would be the one to pry.

"You gonna tell me what's going on?"

"It's not my place to tell you…it's Bobby's…"

"Yeah, well we know how well that will go. Look at how well it just went for you."

"I promise he'll say something when he's ready, ok?"

Dean looked agitated and a little hurt that Bobby would give Cass a clue as to what was going on and not him.

Cass closed the distance between them and placed a soft kiss on cheek. "It's not that he doesn't trust you guys…he just trusts me more to NOT go off and do something stupid about it."

Dean did a mock offended look, "And what's that supposed to mean?"

"Hmmm…let me see…HOW many deals have you AND Sam made?"

Dean scoffed, "I'm hurt!"

"Well how about we do a little more research and help you feel better after? I sent Bobby to bed so we can take over some of the research duties."

"Fine, but the longer you let this wound go unhealed, the more it's going to grow in pain too."

Cass laughed and just pushed Dean back into the study.

The next morning Cass woke up to an empty bed. She looked around for Dean, but couldn't find him. Her heart started to race a little 'til she noticed the open window. She looked out to see Dean sitting in the tree right outside.

"What are you doing?" She asked from inside the window frame.

Dean jolted a little and had to catch himself on the branch. "Don't do that!"

Cass let out a giggle. "Sorry…but what ARE you doing out here?"

"Just thinking…"

"About what we might find out from Cas?"

"Yeah…"

"Look, I really DON'T think he's involved, but we have to know."

"I know…"

"Now get inside before you fall out of that tree and come help me get washed up."

Dean's face lit up, "You don't have to tell me that twice."

(Later that evening)

They set up a ring of holy oil out in the front yard and called out for Cas to come down and talk to them. He appeared in the blink of an eye.

"Hello Dean…Cass…Sam…Bobby…what's this all about?"

Dean lit the holy oil and Cass looked at him surprised.

"Cas…we need some answers," Dean said.

"You should know I'd give them willing, this is not necessary."

"Says the guy that was involved with Nero not that long ago," Cass said in response.

"I am no longer," Castiel replied.

"Then tell us who of your angel brethren has been interested in my family from the beginning?"

"ALL of god's children are of interest to some extent to us."

"Yes…but SOME more than others…like my family."

"I do not know exactly, but from what I do still manage to hear on the angel wave links is that you are of importance to the battle of good and evil."

"Great…please tell me something I DON'T know, like WHO was involved more than others."

"I'm afraid you're asking the wrong angel," a voice from behind them replied.

They all turned to find Elisio standing behind them.

"Then how about we ask the right one," Dean replied as he slung out an angel blade.

Cass ran to stop him. "Wait! Don't kill him!"

Dean kicked dirt over the circle that surrounded Cas, but it was too late. Elisio was gone…and so was Cass…
