Liechtenstein's Adoption

Liechtenstein was a beautiful country. She had all the wealth she could ever want, and as many beautiful homes as she desired. And because of her small build, none of the other Nations considered her to be a threat, though she had a keen military mind.

But then came a horrible earthquake, followed by an epidemic. Many of her people died, and she lost her wealth trying to repay the damages.

Things became serious.

Switzerland was calmly walking through his streets when he saw someone. He knew it was a fellow Nation, as he had seen her a few times. However, he had never seen her look so… ragged before.

Against his better judgement, he approached her, and asked her what happened. She had glared at him distrustfully, but eventually submitted.

She told him about how much of her land had been damaged by the earthquake, and that an epidemic had followed. She had to help pay for the restorations after the quake, and had to help pay for the people's hospital bills, since her population wasn't that grand to begin with, and if she lost them all, well…

Switzerland thought about it for a moment, before offering the other to stay with him for a while, at least until she got back on her feet. She was surprised, and suspicious, of his kindness, which wasn't that unusual, to be honest. But he couldn't simply leave her to her own devices.

Switzerland started to regret it almost immediately.

Liechtenstein didn't look like it, but she had a keen mind, and a lot of cunning. She was also just as sadistic as most of the other Nations.

And Switzerland had made the mistake of inviting her into his home.

Though her voice was sweet, like honey, he couldn't help but notice the poisonous edge to it.

The only reason he was still alright was because she needed him.

The day Austria came to pay a visit was the day that things started making sense again to Switzerland.

Apparently, when she was very young, Austria took care of her, before allowing her to become her own independent Nation when she was physically a ten-year-old. Which was irresponsible, if Switzerland had anything to say about it.

He had also learned that Austria had taught her everything he knew, and that she was his protégée. And naturally, Switzerland didn't like that idea.

He had seen that she had become bitter, and feared what she might do to other Nations, especially if they decided to mess with her.

So he came up with an idea.

"For all intents and purposes, I'm your older brother," Switzerland said. "I guess it's a good thing we kind of look like each other. Anyway, you'll be living at my house until further notice."

She smiled a honey-sweet smile.

"That's okay," she said. "I was planning on leeching on you for as long as possible."

"Also, you'll be getting an allowance. That is to make sure you don't spend too much on useless things."

"A battle axe isn't useless."

"While you're living here, yes it is."
