Over the last week Team Avatar had gone across the Earth Nation, only being able to recruit one air bender. A Little kid who was a thief and a liar by the name of Kai. They landed in Ba Sing Se and one of the Queen's staff and Kyra's grandfather was there to meet them.
"Grandpa!" Kyra said, and then hugged.
Kato was aged, but had aged well. He was still fit and ready for action. He had white hair and a shaved face with soft green eyes.
"Kyra, it is good to see you again," he said.
Kyra then pulled away, "Grandpa, I would like to introduce you to my husband, General Iroh of the United Forces," Kyra said.
"It is nice to meet you sir," Iroh said, bowing.
Kato nodded back in respect, "You as well."
"Now if Master Kyra, and Avatar Korra would follow me," One of the Queen's staff said.
"Come find me if you wish to speak more," Kato said.
Kyra nodded and went with the secretariat and Korra. As they walked Korra leaned over to Kyra.
"Do you know what the Earth Queen is like?" Korra asked.
"Do you want a theory?" Kyra asked.
"Sure," Kora answered.
"She's self-centered, all she cares about is gold," Kyra said. "We need to be careful, or your approval ratings will get even lower."
"How so?" Korra asked.
Kyra looked at her sister, "You saw the lower ring, it's never been that bad, it's because of over taxation, and if the royal-bitch lost support of the Dai Li, she'd be looking at a full on revolution," Kyra said. "I can also tell you she uses fear to control her people."
"How can you tell?" Korra asked.
"The secretariat's aura, it's full of fear," Kyra said.
"Aura?" Korra asked.
"Kya's been teaching me how to sense auras," Kyra said. "I'm a little rusty, but it's all too obvious."
Kyra then smiled.
"What is it?" Korra asked.
"My father would've hated this place," Kyra said.
Korra gave her a funny look.
"Sure he was evil, but he just wanted everyone to be treaty equally, and since we took him down people are more aware of that," Kyra said, "but here people are split between rich and poor. The rich could care less while the poor are starving and getting sick."
"You've really come to peace with what he did?" Korra asked.
"Not all of it. Taking people's bending was just asshole-ish, but he opened the world's eyes. He just did it the wrong way, I still ask myself why," Kyra said.
"Maybe he was trying to make a better world for you," Korra said. "I mean it was obvious he still loved you. He-"
"Stop!" Kyra yelled. "I don't want to be the reason he terrified people and ruined lives!"
Korra saw her about to fall into tears, "Kyra I wasn't trying to say it was your fault, I-"
"It sure sounded like it," Kyra said, and then took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, but I'm a little sensitive to that topic. Let's just not talk about that for a while."
Korra nodded and they were silent until they spoke with the Earth Queen, who decided to send on them on her own personal mission.
"I don't want to do this," Kyra said.
"Ky, I need you," Korra said.
Kyra took a deep breath, thinking about her options.
"Okay," Kyra said.
"I'll meet you at the airship in an hour," Korra said.
Kyra nodded and went back to the house, and geared up. Putting on a new water canister belt and filling it up.
"Kyra, darling is that you?" a familiar voice asked.
Kyra turned and saw her grandmother Miza, she was still fit and wore green robes.
"Grandma," Kyra said and hugged her.
"It's nice to see you again," Miza said. "Kato told me you were here looking for the new air benders."
"Yes," Kyra answered. "I'm actually heading out with Korra to collect some taxes for the queen, so she'll help us find the new air benders."
"She is a bitch isn't she?" Miza asked.
Kyra smiled and nodded.
"Now where is this extremely handsome young man I heard you married?" Miza asked.
Iroh then walked in, "Ah Mrs. Feong," he said.
Miza turned and looked at Iroh, and examined him. She nodded, and turned back to Kyra, "Just like his grandfather when he was that age, shame Zuko chose Mai."
"What?" Iroh asked.
"He didn't tell you, well Zuko and I had a business relationship before I joined the avatar," Miza said, "We flirted here and there nothing serious, guess you got the fire bender hungry gene from me."
"Is there a reason you came Grandma?" Kyra asked, trying to change the subject.
Miza then pulled out two gauntlets, and handed them to Kyra, "An inventor friend of mine made these for me when I was with the avatar, seeing I have no use for them now, I wanted you to have them."
Kyra put them on, and noticed the blade imbedded in them, she then looked at her grandmother, "Oh don't give me that look, they could come in handy one day," Miza said.
Kyra nodded, remembering the old woman in front of her was once a highly skilled and trained assassin, "How do they work?"
Miza then pushed Kyra's hand backwards and the blade came out, she then pulled it back into normal position and the blade retracted. Miza then whispered something in Kyra's ears, "Protect Korra with your life," she said.
She then pulled away, "Have a good rest of your stay darling."
Miza then walked out, and Iroh walked over to Kyra.
"So, that's the woman who could kill me a hundred different ways?" Iroh asked.
"Yep," Kyra answered.
"She seems nice," Iroh said.
"I have to get going, Korra needs me for a run," Kyra said.
"Be safe please," Iroh said.
"I know, I'll be fine," Kyra said.
They kissed goodbye and Kyra went to the airship.
