Hello fellow fanfictioners! Guess what! Thanks to the amazing September Joey, who saved every chapter of Things We Carry into Word documents, Mitch and I will be able to revive the story! How awesome is that? This time around, we're going to finish the story, then post it in its entirety since we're not sure just how long it will take to complete. Still, you can look forward to it in the future. Yay! Well, since Ben is all tuckered out from playing with his Uncle Joe, he's fast asleep and Mitch and I have time to write you another chapter!

Summary: This is a twist on the ending of 5x03. We know Danny followed Marco Reyes, but what if Reyes followed Danny as well? Once again, no Grover. I suck at writing him.

The moment his shovel struck something solid, Danny's let out a sigh of relief. Matt hadn't made it easy, but at least he'd done this right. Digging feverishly, Danny managed to unearth the entire bag in under a minute. However, his heart sank as soon as he opened it. There was money, a lot of it to be sure, but there was no way it could be eighteen and half million dollars. This was only a mere fraction of what Matt had stolen. Taking a deep breath, Danny stood up with the bag, his mind running through all of his options. Maybe he could contact Reyes and use what he had to buy more time. Maybe there was more hidden here, just in a different spot. Maybe-

"You've been busy, Danny." Mused a nonchalant voice from behind him. Danny heard the unmistakable sound of a gun's safety being clicked off. "Check the bag." Reyes said to someone behind him. A moment later, the money was wrenched out of Danny's hand by two obscenely large men. One of them, an enormous man with a lantern jaw, ripped the zipper open.

"This ain't all of it, boss. Only a third maybe."

"Where's the rest of it, Danno?" Reyes asked, voice still light. Danny didn't miss his attempt to provoke him through the use of Grace's nickname.

"That's it. That's all I found. I swear. There might be more hidden here, but I don't know." Danny said, his back still to Reyes.

"But you see, I don't believe you. Matt seemed certain that you knew where all of it was. Matt may have been a cheat and a thief, but he wasn't a liar." Reyes said, his voice suddenly low and cold. The elongated barrel of his silenced pistol dug into Danny's back.

"Listen to me! I don't know where the money is! Maybe if you let me talk to Matt-"

"Hey, now there's an idea. Let's go talk to Matt." Reyes said, his voice icy. "Iván, Pedro." Reyes barked. The next thing Danny knew, he was on his back in the dirt, Lantern Jaw and his friend standing over him. All the air had gone from Danny's lungs and his vision was fading in and out. The last thing he saw before his world went black was a size twelve boot coming at his head.

Steve paced anxiously across the floor of his office. He half expected Danny to come in at any moment and make a joke about him wearing a groove in the tile. That, he thought, would be welcome. After all, it was Danny's failure to show up at work, much less return his calls, that had him pacing in the first place. Ever since he received that call from Danny he had known that something wasn't. He could hear it in his partner's voice. Chin and Kono were at their partner review session, so he had no one around to tell him to relax, that Danny was fine and he could quit worrying.

Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. Grabbing his keys, he raced out to the parking lot and jumped in his truck. Instinct told him to turn on the sirens. Within minutes, he was at Danny's house. Steve's heart sank when he didn't see the flashy Camaro in the driveway. Still, he went inside to make sure.

"Danny? Danny! You in here, man?" There was no response. There were no dishes in the sink and Danny's bed hadn't been slept in. With only one option left, Steve took off for the location on the postcard. When he arrived, the first thing he noticed was Danny's car.

"Danny?" Steve called as he got out. "Danny!" Again, there was no answer. It was clear form all the holes that Danny had been here at some point, but now only silence greeted him.

Something in the dirt caught Steve's eye. Bending down, he unearthed the postcard Matt had sent Danny. A few inches away, Steve saw something else that made his blood run cold. The dark red droplets stood out against the pale dirt. Breathing fast, he stood up to take in the scene with fresh eyes. Now he could see the various boot impressions, too large to be Danny's, the tire tracks that did not belong to the Camaro's expensive wheels, and more blood. Droplets were scattered all over and smeared across the ground in bloody drag marks. Steve nervously ran a hand through his hair. He was saved from a full panic attack by the ringing of his phone.

"Chin!" Steve answered after seeing the caller ID.

"Hey, Steve where are you? We just-"

"Chin, Reyes has Danny."

"What? How…how do you know?" Chin asked, fear in his voice. Steve quickly explained the events of the morning.

"There's blood, Chin. It's gotta be Danny's. You need to get CSU down here right now."

"On it. We'll find him, Steve."

Danny woke slowly, his head pounding mercilessly. He groaned and tried to open his eyes. He could feel something crusted on the lid of his face. Licking his lips, he tasted blood.

"D-danny?" A voice asked nervously from a few yards away. Blinking slowly, Danny managed to bring the image of what was in front of him into focus.

"Matty?" he whispered, his voice hoarse. Matt sat across the room in an identical position to him, tied to a metal chair. He was pale and much thinner than the last time Danny had seen him. Dark circles surrounded his eyes like bruises, which they very well could have been considering how battered he was.

"Thank God." Matt sighed in relief. "I wasn't sure what they'd done to you."

"Where…am I?" Danny asked, his brain struggling to make sense of what was happening.

"We're still in Hawaii. Lana'i I think. Reyes has a place here."

"You okay?" Danny couldn't make his brain string more than a few words together at a time.

"I'm good. I could ask you the same question though. You don't look so good. What happened? Why did they take you? I tried so hard to keep you out of this."

"Reyes…said you stole money. Eighteen and a half million. Said you told him…I could find it." Matt's brows furrowed.

"Danny, I never said anything like that! God, this all my fault. Danny, I'm so sorry. You have to believe me, I would never-"

"Well, this is all very touching, but unfortunately, I'm on a bit of a schedule." Reyes said as he strode into the room, Iván and Pedro at his side. "Matt, you have one last chance. Where is my money?"

"I told you already! Aside from the six million I stashed on Oahu, it's gone. It was taken from me in Brazil."

"Wrong answer." Suddenly, Iván's meaty fist slammed into Danny's ribs. Danny gasped and tried to suck in a breath, but unable to.

"Danny!" Matt cried. "Leave him alone! I told you, he's not a part of this!" Pedro landed a vicious blow to Danny's cheek. Reyes smiled and pulled out Danny's cell phone.

"If it was taken from you, why don't we let Hawaii's finest find it?"

Steve hovered over the crime scene techs as they swept every inch of the scene. The agreed with Steve's theory of kidnapping. Fong had already matched the samples of blood Kono had brought him to Danny. Steve's mind was consumed with guilt. He should have come here last night, regardless of what Danny had said.

"You doing okay?" Chin said softly from behind him.

"I should've been here, Chin. I was all ready to come out here, but I didn't."

"Yeah, and you know what? If you had been here you'd be dead right now. Neither of you would have been expecting an attack. Reyes would have killed you and taken Danny. This isn't your fault, Steve." Steve sighed, but before he could reply, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

"Chin, I just got something from Danny's cell! Hold on…it's a video message." Steve pressed play. The video clearly displayed a bloody and bruised Danny, only half conscious, slumped over in a metal chair. In the background, Steve could here Matt screaming.

"Don't touch him! I told you, he doesn't know anything! Danny!" Matt's voice cut out and faded into muffled shouts, most likely from some sort of gag. The camera zoomed in on Danny's face and Steve could hear his partner struggling to breathe.

"Twelve and a half million dollars, McGarrett. You have until midnight tomorrow. No exceptions. We'll be in touch." Reyes said coldly. The video ended abruptly, leaving Steve and Chin in shock.

"God…Danny." Steve whispered.

"Why did Reyes lower the price? I thought it was eighteen." Chin asked as he texted Kono, instructing her to see if she could trace Danny's phone.

"Danny must've found some of the money here." Steve replied.

"How the hell are we supposed to find that much money by tomorrow?" Steve said nothing, just went to his truck and sped off.

Steve rang the doorbell and a moment later, he heard the click of heels coming down the hall. When the door opened, he was greeted by Rachel's confused, concerned, yet beautiful face.

"Steve? What's wrong? Is Danny alright?"

"No, Rachel, he's not."

"Come in." She said softly, allowing him to enter. She led them to the kitchen where they sat a small table. "What's happened to him? He's not…God, he's not dead is he?" She asked, fear evident in her voice.

"Not yet, I don't think."

"What do you mean? Don't you know?"

"He's been kidnapped. I got a video half an hour ago. He's in pretty bad shape."

"Who has him?"

"His name is Marco Reyes. He's a Colombian drug lord. He's also the man that Danny's brother stole eighteen and a half million dollars from."

"Wait, this is about Matt?" Understanding dawned in her eyes. She knew what Matt had done three years ago. She had been the one to hold Danny after Matt had fled.

"Reyes has both Matt and Danny. Now, Danny managed to recover six million of the stolen money, but we still need another twelve point five by tomorrow or Danny's dead. Rachel, I know you and Danny don't see eye to eye very often, but if you ever loved him, please, help me. Grace deserves to grow up with her father around." Steve reasoned. Rachel nodded.

"Of course. I can have it by tomorrow afternoon. Is that soon enough?" She asked. Steve was taken aback at her willingness.

"Yeah, we have until midnight. Won't Stan be upset?"

"He's in London right now and frankly, I don't care. Danny would do the same me for me, not questions asked."

"Thank you, Rachel." She nodded again.

"Just promise me you'll bring him home alive."

Okay, so this is going to be a two-parter since Ben just woke up and I don't have time to finish this. I may have tweaked some things, such as how fast lab results come back and just how rich Stan is, but it helps the story. Anyway, I'll try to finish this before the next episode (which looks like it's going to focus mainly on the Danny/Matt storyline). I may even finish it today, I just don't know. Sorry for any grammar mistakes!
