There will be a VERY LONG AN at the end of this chapter. Despite the length I encourage you all to read it. I talk about a number of different things, but one of them is the timeline for the sequel and the rest of the series, as well as kind of just as a heart to heart, so please give it a read, yes I know it's long.
Disclaimer: I do not own any portion of Harry Potter in any way shape or form. Every last bit of it belongs to J.K Rowling and J.K Rowling alone.

Memories
Chapter 30: Some Things Never Change.
Harry hardly noticed that he had exited the blur of memories, hardly noticed that he was no longer rising upwards at terminal velocity, nor even did he notice when his feet hit the cold, hard stone floor of Snape's office.
Harry was at a complete and utter loss. Snape, his mother, Dumbledore, James, a prophecy?
Harry was trying to process all of this at once, the unfortunate result of this was that he had no brain power for anything else, which left him looking rather lost as he stood gaping like a fish in front of the potions master and his head of house.
Despite his state, Snape seemed to understand his struggle for he said nothing, just observed, analyzed and waited. Waited for the young man to speak, waiting to hear the hatred in his tone, but that part never came.
"What is this about a prophecy?" Harry's voice was quiet, barely above a whisper and laced with a fair bit of sadness. Snape saw him wipe furiously at his eyes but he did not comment on that.
"There was a prophecy made before you were born involving yourself and the Dark Lord. I am forbidden by a magical oath I made to Dumbledore to say anything else on the matter." He looked pained, he looked far similar to the Snape he had seen in the pensive post Lily's death than the one he was accustomed to seeing on a daily basis at Hogwarts.
And then the pieces came together.
"Well Harry, it all begins with you. You said earlier that I desired to kill your parents, that was your first mistake, and the first lie Albus Dumbledore ever told to you. It was you I wanted, Harry. They just happened to get in the way."
"The truth…." Dumbledore sighed "It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution. However, I shall answer your questions, unless I have a very good reason not to, in which case I beg you'll forgive me. I shall not of course lie."
"Well, Voldemort said he only killed my parents because they were in the way, and that it was me he was after from the start. But why would he want to kill me in the first place?"
Dumbledore sighed very deeply this time. "Alas, the first thing you ask me I can not tell you. Not today, not now. You will know one day, put it from your mind for now, Harry. When you are older. I know you hate to hear this, when you are ready you will know."
"There was a prophecy made before you were born involving yourself and the Dark Lord. I am forbidden by a magical oath I made to Dumbledore to say anything else on the matter."
"That's it, isn't it?"
Harry hadn't even realized he had spoken, but the half question, half statement had come flooding out of him before he could stop himself. It came out as a whisper, but audible nonetheless.
"It is what exactly?" Asked Snape, his tone both cautious and calculating in equal measure.
"That's why he came after me, he said it was me that he wanted, that my parents only got in the way. I asked Dumbledore why he came for me and he wouldn't answer. That's got to be it."
Snape did not answer his question verbally, he was forbidden to do that, nor did he intentionally give anything away, but his face was what told Harry the story. The truth was written in every line, screaming at him from every pore.
There was another long pause before Harry tentatively asked a question, ready to leave quickly if it did not go over well.
"You loved my mother." He meant for it to come out as a question, but it sounded it to him like far more of a statement. Snape visibly flinched at the words but made no move to deny them. He analyzed Harry once more, his black eyes boring into him before he finally sighed and spoke once again, his voice tight.
"I would have thought that rather obvious from the memories." He continued to peer at Harry intently before sighing once more. "Yes, I loved her, the only person I have ever truly loved, and she was taken away from me."
"Why did you hate my father so much?" The question was asked hesitantly.
For a moment Snape looked as if he was going to explode. But then he closed his eyes, took a few deep breaths and when he opened his eyes his face was blank, and his voice was flat and completely void of any and all emotion.
"A multitude of reasons. He truly was an arrogant toe rag as far as I am concerned, even if he did become slightly more bearable from sixth year onwards." Snape admitted that last part reluctantly. "He worked to make my life a misery ever since the first day. I think he loved your mother from that very moment and felt threatened by my closeness to her." Snape winced, as if he was about to make a painful admission. "That is the only thing me and James Potter have ever, or will ever have in common."
"That's why you seemed to dislike me at the beginning of the year."
Snape just sneered. "Dislike is not a strong enough word. I had prepared myself mentally for a decade, ready to see a miniature version of the man who made my life a hell, but I didn't. You were sorted into my house and proved to be unlike your father in every way. Your father was loud, obnoxious, self centred and arrogant, while you were quiet, respectful and if you share his arrogance you at least have the decency to not broadcast it to the wider world around you." He paused again, looking Harry in the eyes. "And you have her eyes." He finished softly.
"What was that bit at the end, sir?"
Snape looked at him again, all sadness gone from his black eyes in an instant, replaced with cold, hard fire and passion. "A promise, a promise to never let her sacrifice go to waste, a promise to see you succeed over the Dark Lord. A promise I intend on keeping."
…..
The next number of days flew by in a haze.
Harry spent his time divided between the library, practicing spells and duelling with Draco, Theo and Blaise, while Pansy, Crabbe and Goyle mostly just watched. Or in the air, sometimes alone, sometimes joined by his friends for a good game of Quidditch. Flying never did get old.
Harry also spent a bit of time with Tracey and Daphne, nothing substantial, but a few minutes here and there; playing chess, in the library, or just lounging near the fire.
Harry had expected things with Daphne to be awkward at the very least but for the umpteenth time that year, Daphne Greengrass ever the enigma, had surprised him.
True, she had all but crushed him in a hug when they had been alone in the library for the first time, saying that she had thought him dead and that she was glad he was alright. She had held him so tightly that he wouldn't have been able to flinch away if he wanted to, but for some odd reason the impulse wasn't there.
That had ended quickly enough when Harry had made a remark about how he had told her it was a bad idea to come.
"You should have listened to me, Greengrass, you're obviously suffering from some serious trauma, I mean, the lack of self control.."
His drawl had earned him a momentary death glare as she had pulled away from him, though the effects were ruined slightly by the sudden amount of colour in her cheeks.
At long last the end of year feast was upon them, and the excitement at the Slytherin table was palpable. They had won the House Cup yet again, now the eighth year running, and the Quidditch Cup on top of it.
Harry was having an enjoyable meal, simply wishing the feast would never end as he talked a bit distractedly with Draco and the rest of his group.
It was hard to focus on all of that when he knew that Durskaban was in his very near future.
After a splendid meal and the goblets and plates had been cleared, Albus Dumbledore swept to his feet, looking around the great hall, which was decorated in the Slytherin colours of silver and green. Silence fell almost at once as his speech began.
"Another year gone," Dumbledore said cheerfully. "and I must trouble you with an old man's wheezing waffle now that we have partaken in our delicious feast. What a year it has been. Hopefully your heads are all a little fuller than they were. You have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before next year starts. Now, as I understand it, the House Cup here needs awarding and the points stand thus: in fourth place, Gryffindor, with 312 points; in third, Hufflepuff, with 352; Ravenclaw have 426; and Slytherin, 472."
A storm of cheering and stamping broke out from the Slytherin table, Draco was banging his goblet on the table.
"Well done, Slytherin, well done indeed. I believe this makes it eight years in a row, a very admirable accomplishment, so well done Slytherin. Well done indeed."
As Dumbledore presented the house cup to Jemma Fawley the table roared so loudly that if someone was standing outside the Great Hall, they may well have thought that an explosive had been set off inside the hall itself.
…..
In all of the chaos of the year, Harry had forgotten that the exam results were still to come, but come they did.
Each student was set to receive their results that night, however, for those high achievers their marks could be seen early, for on the notice board of each common room there were seven boards, one for each year that showed the top 10 in each year per subject.
Harry, Draco, Daphne and the rest of the Slytherin first years made their way to their respective board and read.

"Bloody hell, Harry." Said Draco, half admiring, half exasperated. "Three O+'s in a year? My father said there hasn't been an O+ in the last fifteen years."
Harry let that sink in, he did not know that, and now there were four. Three from him and Daphne's expected O+ in potions.
Harry just smiled at Draco. "Looks like I need to raise that potions mark, huh?"
Draco just rolled his eyes and laughed with the rest of the group.
…..
The train ride back into London was a rather somber affair for Harry. He reluctantly joined in a game of chess against Draco where he had lost for the first time. He was just too distracted to concentrate. He had been offered a few games of exploding snap, but had politely declined. If he played with anything explosive in this state he figured someone might die.
Finally, the scarlet steam engine pulled into Platform Nine and Three Quarters and Harry, full of dread and despair, led his friends off of the train and onto the platform proper.
"Cheer up, Harry." Said Draco with a smile. "You won't be with those muggles long, you can come to the manor after a few days. Mother said she wanted a few days with just the family but after that you can come and spend some time at the manor."
"Indeed." Said a voice from behind them.
The boys turned to see standing there, an amused expression on each of their regal faces, were Lucius and Narcissa.
"Mother, father." Greeted Draco as Narcissa pulled him into a hug with such vigor that for a moment she was holding him up in the air before he protested loudly and was set down.
"Harry, I trust you've been well?" Asked Lucius, shaking hands with the youth.
"Yes sir." Said Harry, deciding not to explain the secrets of the last week.
Lucius nodded approvingly. "We have decided that we will offer you a place at the manor this summer, go home for the night and send us an owl when you would like to be retrieved."
Harry's heart leapt at the prospect and he nodded.
"Yes sir, thank you, sir."
"Nonsense, Harry." said Narcissa smiling softly at him, he only hoped she wouldn't hug him in the same fashion she had Draco. To his relief she did not. "You are family after all, your grandmother was a Black as was I."
Harry nodded gratefully, a small lump in his throat. He had known that but had never really pondered what that meant for him.
"I'll probably owl you tomorrow." Harry told them, his bubble bursting as they neared the barrier that would transport them back to the muggle side.
"We will be waiting." Said Lucius before adding. "Draco, where has your brother gotten off to?"
"I'm here, Father." came Elan's voice as he jogged up beside them. "I was greeting Violette's parents."
Narcissa pulled her eldest into a hug as Lucius nodded approvingly.
"Well, Harry, this is where we leave you. Until next time." And with that, Lucius took hold of Elan's arm while Narcissa took Draco's hand and there were two loud cracks that signified the Malfoys were gone.
…..
That had been an odd night at Privet Drive. The Dursley's seemed to have decided to act as if Harry did not exist, and even allowed him to take his school things up to his bedroom. It was a surprisingly content Harry Potter that went to bed that night.
It was a restless sleep, as every time he had tried to sleep had been since the confrontation with Voldemort and the expedition in the pensive.
Despite that, Harry woke up the next morning full of vigor. He bounded to the door, excited at the prospect of only one more shower in this hell hole.
That was until he pulled on the doorknob and nothing happened.
Harry's blood turned to ice, as he pulled on the door again and again but nothing happened. He tried to force the door to open with magic but nothing happened, he had not mastered wandless magic, not by a longshot and could only manage mundane tasks aside from his manipulation of shadows, but that was something he had always been good at.
Harry turned around, he was not keen on getting expelled, but if he needed to use magic to get out of here he would, consequences be damned. He was already beginning to panic, terrible memories floating to the surface as he was trapped in his idea of hell once more.
He remembered the hot pain of a belt across his cheek, the brutal impact of a shin against a small rib cage, and the burning sensation of a hot iron on his chest.
'SNAP OUT OF IT!' His brain screamed at him.
He looked around keen to grab his wand and his blood grew still colder.
There was nothing, no wand to speak of. His wand, trunk, spellbooks and even owl were nowhere to be found and his windows were barred, not even his slim frame would fit between them.
Harry began to scream, demanding to be let out of the room. For a long time nothing happened and then his heart skipped a beat as an owl cried out in pain.
"SHUT UP OR THE OWL GETS IT!" Came the bellowing voice of his uncle from downstairs.
There weren't a great many people nor animals that Harry cared for but he would not let them hurt Hedwig, so he shut up, and the screams of his owl stopped, though he knew she was still ok, or at least, alive.
Harry's mind began to race with horrific memories once more as he searched for a way out but there was none.
With that terrible reality racing through his now haunted mind, Harry Potter slumped down on his bed and sunk into an all consuming hell, with no escape in sight.

Authors Endnote:
I know, I know, I ended the story on a cliffhanger. I'm a dick, I get it.
On a serious note though, I do apologize for the cliffhanger here, I know it's a dick move but I've had it planned since the beginning and I've changed my original ideas for this story way too much already, I also just thought it would keep the anticipation high for Book 2.
On that note, let's talk. This will be long, so if you guys can't be bothered I understand, but I will speak on the timeline of the series.
I'm going to be very blunt and honest with all of you, I am not going to drop this series, I will NEVER drop this series unless something drastic happens in my life that forces my hand.
Despite that though, Book 2 won't be coming out for quite a while.
This story went in a very different direction than I meant for it to go, partially because I hadn't planned far enough ahead at the beginning (remember this was my first ever fic, and writing it was a spontaneous decision) and partially because I got cold feet on a few major ideas.
What I'm trying to say is I've gone very far from what my original vision for this story/series was. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means I will need time to plan a new course. Some things won't change, the climax of most of the stories for example, and some major twists I have planned for much later down the road will remain the same, but I will essentially need to redo my plan for Book 2.
On top of that, I have Book 1 of another Harry in Slytherin series coming out. If I'm being honest, so far I am more proud of that story than this one. I am far more experienced now and I think it is written a bit better overall. I'm also writing a darker Harry in that series, which was the original plan for this series but I kind of backed out of doing it.
That story, like this one, will go until the end of Harry's first year in Hogwarts, but if you think it will be a carbon copy of this story, your loss, not even close.
That story will probably be a similar length to this one, if not longer so it will be a while for Book 2 of this series since I will not post it until (at the earliest) that story is done.
What I'm trying to say is this series will be updated and eventually finished, but I am in no hurry to do so, and you will likely be waiting until late this year for book 2
That being said though I just want to drive the point home one more time.
I WILL NOT DROP THIS SERIES!"
Seriously, I hadn't updated in a few weeks and people were asking me if I had dropped the story, please have some patience.
That is not directed at the vast majority of you, but I wanted to put it out there.
Now, onto more positive things.
Firstly, the support on this story has been MINDBLOWING! I never thought I would get anywhere near this kind of support and it is truly humbling, I only hope this support can carry over to my other stories, the new Slytherin Harry one in particular, which I will speak on in more detail in a moment.
This is where I was planning on shouting out a bunch of people who have constantly reviewed almost every chapter. The problem is, there's so many of you who do that that if I were to do that I would most certainly leave people out by mistake and I don't want that to happen.
So, if you guys have been constantly reviewing this story (you know who you are) I absolutely love and appreciate each and every single one of you, just know that your support does not go unnoticed and it has been a privilege to discuss the story with you.
I just want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for the support! And I honestly hope you've enjoyed the story! I know it is nowhere near perfect but I did my best.
On that note, I'm well aware there are a number of errors in this story. I'm speaking of spelling/grammar/etc. Mostly in the early chapters, I would say before chapter 19 or 20 for the most part. I will be going through the chapters and making small revisions to grammar and maybe wording as well. I would rather not have my current betas help with this as I would much rather their time be spent on helping me with current stories as they are already so graciously doing, and I do not want to take up anymore of their precious time.
If any of you would be interested in assisting me in this process, PM me or leave it in a review. I would rather people who are fairly well educated grammatically and are patient because there are probably quite a few stupid little errors kicking around.
With all of that being said on this story, I would like to speak a bit on the future of some other stories. So if you guys get updates for this story because of that I am sorry.
I will add a 31st chapter to this story once book 2 goes live and tell you guys that it is up. So, if you want to know when the sequel is up stay followed to this story and/or my author profile.
I will be updating all of my other stories at a regular pace.
The other Slytherin Harry story will also be the first in a series it will be called
'Harry Potter and The Prince of Power-Book 1: Birth of a Snake'.
It will feature a darker Harry, not necessarily evil, but much darker than this series. Unlike this one, it will be rated M so beware of that if it bothers you.
As I already said, I am actually so proud of this story, I have the first 8 chapters pre written already (as well a story outline obviously) and I will be updating once a week!
If you guys would like to follow that story, it will be up exactly 24 hours after this chapter goes live! So that will go up on March 20th 2019 for those of you reading this at a later date.
If you guys have a particular day of the week you would like me to post on for that story leave it in a PM or Review, any day works fine for me, though Fridays may not work in May.
With all of that out of the way, I will leave you with a small teaser for chapter one of that story.
Before I sign off, I know I sound like a broken record but THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT! It means the world to me and has truly added to the last number of months of my life.
As always, follow, favourite, review, and here's the teaser.
Harry Potter and The Prince of Power Book 1 Birth of a Snake Teaser
In the next couple years Harry Potter would mature greatly. He was, in short, a child genius. He had learned how to be very charming when he had to be; at the age of seven, he had become a master manipulator. And at the age of eight, his plan had gone off, seemingly without a hitch.
Dudley had formed a gang. Their favourite activity, unfortunately, seemed to be whatever Dudley wanted to do. More often than not, that was hunting down Harry.
So, Harry had searched for a solution and came upon two things: his gift, as he called it, and his charm. He would either charm, or scare Dudley's gang onto his side. One way or another they would crack.
And crack they did. Only one member of Dudley's gang succumbed to the charm. That didn't really surprise Harry, if they hung around with Dudley, it was clearly not something they understood. Intimidation though, that worked very well. Malcolm had been the easiest. Harry had cornered him on his way home and chased him into the woods. From there Harry had found what he was looking for, a snake. He had set the snake loose on Malcolm. It was not venomous, but its bite still wasn't pleasant. Mix that with the boys phobia for snakes, and the fact he was only nine years old and he cracked quickly. Promising to stop, to do anything for Harry to let him go, he did.
Piers Polkiss had taken the longest. Harry had used snakes, had made the boy hurt and everything. It would work for a while but he would always move on and go back to Dudley. Harry admired the boy's nerve, and partially enjoyed the challenge. Unfortunately for Piers though, it only made him want to break the boy even more.
And break him he did. Harry had cornered Piers and his younger brother during an outing with Dudley's gang. Harry had scared off his cousin easily enough. Dudley had stopped bothering Harry months ago. Now a days he was too scared to challenge him, he was apparently too scared to even go to his parents. Harry had simply willed him to hurt and he had. This had been enough to send him off wailing. Piers had then become very nervous.
"G-g-go away, Potter. L-l-leave me alone."
"Why would I do that?" Harry asked, a smile far to predatory for an eight year old boy gracing his lips.
"Because it's-it's-it's not right. It's not right what you do to us."
Harry just laughed at this before he was cut off by Pier's little brother.
His younger brother had tried to intervene but it had been a terrible idea. Harry had simply caused the six year old boy a fraction of the pain he was capable of causing and he had fallen, balling. From there, Harry had frozen him in place, if all else failed he could potentially be quite the bargaining chip.
"Piers, my life isn't right, what you helped do to me for years isn't right. There's only one way for you to get better, Piers, and that's to be taught a lesson. And since no one else seems to want to do it, I will."
The next few hours were not pleasant for Piers. He felt pain unlike anything he had ever felt before. Though it was nothing in comparison to the Cruciatus curse, it was far beyond the tolerance of a nine year old boy. He saw things too, terrible things, things that would haunt his dreams for years. This was another talent of Harry's, he could make people see things. Things that were not real, things that would haunt their dreams. And he always knew what to pick, sometimes he just knew what scared people the most. He would just look at them dead in the eye and focus on their greatest fear, and the image would appear to him, from there, it was as simple as using his gift to project the image in their mind.
And finally he had stopped him from breathing, he had held it as long as possible, just as the boy was about to collapse he released his grip on the boy, the invisible chains loosening as he slumped to the ground.
"You should have known, Piers, people who fight against me don't win. You should have never tried. You're either with me or against me. Now, have you finally learned your lesson?"
"No!" PIers wailed in defiance.
Harry just sighed. "Then I am afraid you leave me with no choice.
The boy's brother gasped as Harry focused on him, cutting off his flow of oxygen as easily as he had done to his brother.
Piers whaled but did not have the strength to stand.
"Give up Piers, I do not enjoy hurting children, don't give me a reason to do it anymore than I have to."
He then focused on pain. The small boy gasped for a moment as oxygen was allowed back into his lungs before he screamed in pure agony.
"Do you give up, Piers? Will you leave Dudley for me?"
The sobbing boy could do nothing but look up and nod.
"Good." Said Harry, releasing the small, sobbing boy from his agony and simply allowing him to curse up on the ground. "Meet me and the others at the park tomorrow at 2:00."
As he was walking away, he turned back around.
"And Piers, don't be late, you won't like what will happen if you're late."
