Chapter Twenty-Nine – Wedding Bells
Angelina looks up when she hears Jon walk out from the back. She frowns when she sees that he's dressed and looks ready to go out. "Where are you going?" she asks.
Jon shoves his wallet into his back pocket. "Out to the bar. Meeting up with some of the boys."
"Jon…" She frowns as she watches him. "What about tomorrow?"
"What about it? I'm just going out for a few beers. I'll be fine for the wedding tomorrow." He steps over to the couch. "I won't be out late."
Angelina sighs. "Just promise that you won't drink too much."
Jon leans down and kisses her softly. "I promise." He kisses her again. "I'll see you in a little while."
"Okay." She watches him walk out and can't help but let out a heavy breath. She's not sure how she feels about this. She wants to believe that he's going to limit his drinking and be home early. But they've been in this situation before. Unlike the previous times, however, they have plans for the following day.
Angelina looks at the clock when she sees the headlights from Jon's truck spill through the window. She sighs. So much for him not being out late; but what's he going to be like. If he's driving, he better hope he's not drunk. She hates when he drives after a night of drinking. She always tells him to call her; even if she is upset with him, she would rather him come home safely than end up in a hospital… or worse.
When the door opens, Angelina looks over and watches Jon step inside. He's stumbling slightly, but she's certainly seen him in worse shape. She frowns a little as she continues to watch him. Jon turns after locking the door.
"Angie," Jon says with a smile. He walks over. "So…" He sits down with a sigh. "I had more than I intended to."
"I can tell."
He looks at her. "But I'm not drunk."
She tries to stop the smile that forms on her face but can't. "I'm still mad at you."
He smirks. "Good to know."
"Thank you for not getting drunk."
"Thank you for not throwing something at my head when I walked in."
Angelina wrinkles her nose as she steps inside the church. She looks at Jon, noticing how uncomfortable he looks. She slips her arm through his as they make their way up the aisle. "You okay?" she asks softly.
"I can't believe I agreed to this," he answers. He looks at her and sighs. "I hate churches."
She rubs his arm. "I know you do. But it won't be too bad. And it'll be quick. My cousin told me she didn't want anything long."
"Okay." He squeezes her hand.
"Mom's over here."
"Lead the way." Jon isn't surprised to see Ethan glare at him as he and Angelina join them.
"Ignore him." Angelina smiles at Jon as they sit down. "You're here with me. You are my date, my boyfriend. Besides, my Mom likes you."
Jon smiles. "Good thing." He leans over and kisses her cheek. "I love you."
"Love you."
As the ceremony starts, Jon can't keep his attention on the couple in front. Instead, he continues to look down to where his and Angelina's hands are intertwined. He pulls their hands onto his lap, trailing his fingertips over the tattoo of his name on her wrist. He can't help but smile. He never could have imagined anyone could love him the way Angelina does. How did he get this lucky?
When he finally lifts his gaze, he's startled by the fact that Ethan is glaring at him. Jon frowns at the man, wondering what he's done now. Then he realizes just what the issue was. This is the first time Ethan's seen Angelina's tattoo. Jon can't help but smirk as he finally moves his attention toward the front of the church.
It isn't long before the ceremony ends and everyone starts making their way out. Jon takes Angelina's hand once they step out of the pew. He can already see Ethan itching to say something to them. Leaning over, Jon kisses Angelina's temple.
"Daddy saw your tattoo," he whispers.
"Good," Angelina says. She smiles at Jon.
"Don't you need an approval for doing that to yourself?" Ethan asks the moment they're outside.
"I'm nineteen." Angelina looks at Ethan. "I'm surprised it took you so long to see it. I've had it since February."
Ethan frowns. "This is unacceptable."
"Ethan, knock it off," Beth says. She pulls Jon and Angelina away from Ethan. "Ignore him. Sometimes I don't know if he even thinks before talking. Just know that I want you two here and so does Britney. It's all she talked about last night."
Angelina smiles. "That's good to know."
Jon leans back in his chair after finishing his dinner. He rests his arm along the back of Angelina's chair. She looks over and smiles at him. He returns the smile as he grabs his beer. He gestures toward her plate.
"How's yours?" he asks.
"Good," she answers. "I'd ask you, but seen as you ate everything, I'm going to take it as it was at edible."
He chuckles. "It was good." He takes a sip of his beer. "Want another pop?"
"That would be good."
"Okay." He scoots his chair back and stands up. "Beth, can I get you anything?"
"I'm good for now," Beth answers.
Jon nods and looks at Angelina when she looks up at him. "What?"
"Are you getting another drink?"
"Not yet. Though I might get a pop." He winks at her before walking away.
Angelina smiles when she sees Britney making her way over to them with Adam a short time later. She stands up and gestures for Jon to do the same. She's not surprised by the look he gives her as he does stand. "Don't look at me like that." She smacks his stomach lightly as Britney and Adam approach.
"Hey," Britney says immediately hugging Angelina. "I'm so glad you could make it."
Angelina pulls back and beams at Britney. "I wouldn't have missed it. Congratulations. Adam, it's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."
"Likewise," Adam says. "Just don't believe everything you hear from her."
"Oh hush." Britney looks at Jon. "And this must be the one keeping you away all the time now."
Angelina grins as she looks at Jon. "It is. This is Jon Good." She watches him shake Adam's hand before being engulfed in a massive hug from Britney. She wrinkles her nose, hoping he won't freak out.
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too," Jon says. He clears his throat as he takes a step back.
Angelina smiles a little as she reaches over and takes his hand. "Food was amazing."
"Wasn't it?" Britney asks. "So glad we did it this way. We better see you two out dancing."
"Of course."
"And singing! Karaoke!"
Jon points at her. "I'm in!"
Britney points at him. "Yay!" She takes Adam's hand as they walk away to greet their other guests.
Angelina smiles at Jon. "You're insane."
Jon slides his arm around her waist. "What's that make you?" He kisses her softly. "Glad she's not like your father."
"Believe it or not, her Dad is more like my Mom than his own brother."
"Good."
It isn't long before the dancing has started. Jon holds his hand out to Angelina as he stands up. She looks up at him. He smiles and gestures out to the dance floor.
"Come on," he says. "Dance with me."
She laughs softly as she takes his hand and lets him lead her out onto the floor with the others. They dance several songs before a slow one starts. It isn't just any slow song, however.
"Jon…" Angelina watches him as he slides his arms around her waist. "Did you…?"
"No. When? I've been with you." He rests his forehead on hers, humming along with the song as she wraps her arms around him.
She smiles. "I'm just going to pretend that you had something to do with this song being played."
"You do that." He kisses the side of Angelina's head. "You aren't expecting me to propose anytime soon, are you?"
"No." She curls her fingers through his hair at the nape of his neck. "I like what we have."
