This prompt is from AllyMorozova and it is you, R5 and A&A cast all switched bodies because of the evil toaster. (P.S. now it's 2:30 after school XD)

Christmas Eve
"Wait, wait, wait, you did what?!" Ally asks me, looking surprised and amused. She managed to find a little time to video chat me while Trish is putting her younger brother to bed. This is the first time we've video chatted since she left, and she comes home tomorrow. Our 'dates' weren't exactly convenient for Trish's plans, and we haven't had time to do more than text.
"I fell in the fountain!" I say, whining a little. Ally laughs. "Hey, it's not my fault the girl looked like you! And then I started thinking of the most elaborate way to scare the crap out of you, and I was so distracted I didn't see the fountain!"
"You're so weird!" Ally exclaims, still laughing.
"Love does weird things to me, man! This is why I'm not supposed to fall in it! It messes with my head more than the average human!"
"So wait, what happened after you fell in?" Ally asks, avoiding the love topic. Funny, I used to do that exact same thing when she said she was in love with me.
"The girl-I think her name was Heather or something-ran over and helped me out. And because I was wearing a white t-shirt, she started fawning over my abs and muscles and suchness, and I decided that it's only cute when you do it. She was, like, petting my stomach. Like, girl, no," I say. Ally starts cracking up. I grin in victory.
"Okay, and then what happened?"
"She gave me her number, kept flirting with me, and attempted to kiss me. I almost let her, too."
"Did you?" Ally asks, sounding slightly surprised.
"She looked a lot like you, okay? Like, you two could be twins. So, when she was leaning in, I momentarily forgot that it wasn't you, and it isn't really in my nature to reject a kiss from you."
"Ah."
"But then I was like, 'Wait, this isn't Ally!' and so then I told the girl I have a girlfriend."
"But you don't," Ally says.
"I panicked! So then she asked what her name was and I said it was Ally because you're the first name to pop in my head for everything-hashtag: sorry not sorry-and then she asked what you looked like so I said exactly like her and then she said 'I know you want me, so why're you calling me a different name?' and then I was like, 'No, 'cause I have a girlfriend named Ally who goes to my school and beat me at Mario Kart and thinks it's cute when I get flustered around her,' and then she was like, 'Sure you do,' and then she tried to kiss me again!" I ramble.
"Go on," Ally says, sounding amused.
"Okay, so then I told her to stop because I don't cheat and she said no one would have to know and I was like, 'The only girl I even wanna kiss is my girlfriend, so no,' and she said something about her looking like you and I forget what I said back but eventually she stormed off. The end!"
"Interesting story," Ally says. I nod.
"It made me miss you. And your lips. Hashtag: sorry not sorry."
"What's with the hashtags?" Ally asks, chuckling.
"Dunno," I reply. "So, have you and Trish been having fun?" I ask. Ally nods.
"We went Christmas shopping!" Ally says excitedly.
"Did you, now?" I ask, chuckling. She nods.
"Yeah! And-" I hear the door open and Ally turns her head to see who walked in. "Hey, Trish," she says.
"Talking to your boyfriend?" I hear Trish's voice.
"No, just Austin," Ally replies innocently.
"Wow, Als. Heart. Shattered," I say jokingly.
"Ouch, you are cold, my friend," Trish tells Ally, sitting down next to her. "Sup, Moon?"
"Trying to get over all this rejection," I say nonchalantly. Trish chuckles. "Ally likes playing hard to get."
"You know the situation, Moon Boy," Ally says, rolling her eyes.
"I know it quite well," I say. "Still makes you hard to get. Still makes me want you more. Still makes life that much harder."
"You two better get together soon," Trish says. "All this shameless flirting without being a couple is annoying." I grin.
"I told you you were flirting the other day!" I tell Ally.
"I wasn't flirting!" she whines.
"You so were!" I argue. "Need I remind you of that one Mario Kart threat?" She rolls her eyes.
"That wasn't flirting. That was a comeback."
"Not a very good one," I say with a snort. "It kinda made my day. Well, it was already made when we kissed, but…" I trail off and watch Trish as she whacks Ally's arm.
"How did I not hear about this?!" she asks. I smirk while Ally glares at me through her phone.
"You did that on purpose," she tells me. I shrug innocently.
"Consider it my revenge for what you did. You know, when you were sitting on top of me…"
"What?!" Trish exclaims.
"Austin Monica Moon," Ally says, glaring at me.
"Your middle name's Monica?" Trish asks me. I nod.
"Yep. So, you want me to tell Trish about-"
"Austin, if you say anything else, I will murder your firstborn child with a paper clip," Ally threatens. I grin at her using my threat.
"Not if it's yours! Oh, by the way, Trish, I used that threat against her, and she used my response." Ally glares at me while Trish whacks her arm again. I smile innocently.
"Face it, Als. I always win."
"Unless it's at Mario Kart," Ally says. I narrow my eyes at her.
"So, am I gonna get details or what?!" Trish asks Ally. "I can't believe you kissed and didn't tell me!"
"Wow, look at the time!" I say before Ally can tell me to explain. "I better start packing so I don't have to do it tomorrow or Christmas!"
"Austin-" Ally starts, but I cut her off.
"Bye, ladies! Love you, Als!" I quickly hang up.
I've decided to casually remind Ally that I love her in any way possible. Like, if we're saying goodbye, for instance. If I just nonchalantly tell her I love her, maybe it'll seem more real to her, since it's more of an everyday setting than a big, emotional, desperate, blurt-things-because-you're-caught-up-in-the-moment setting.
I'm already packed for the ski trip, and since Rydel is already asleep, I decide to get ready for bed as well.
I hop in the shower and stand there for a while, collecting my thoughts while the hot water runs down my body. I finished my song for Ally, and I've devised a plan for when and how to sing it to her. And even though I'm not exactly admitting to anything new or doing anything exceptionally large compared to what I did last Friday, I'm still nervous. Fortunately, I'm not putting the plan into action until tomorrow night, so I can practice a little tomorrow while Rydel gets ready for brunch at the Lynches'.
Every year on Christmas Eve, we (along with the rest of our friends and their families) go to the Lynches' for brunch. Well, it's actually right at lunch time, but we all call it brunch as a joke to pretend we're fancy. Yeah, all the families are really close. Well, except ours.
See, Rydel and I are super close with all our friends and their families. Why wouldn't we be? We've known them since kindergarten. But our parents aren't. They were always too busy with work to do whatever all the rest of the parents do when they go out. But none of the other families judge us for it. I mean, it's not our fault our parents care about work more than their family and social life.
Well, my dad does. My mom-as you've probably figured out-isn't bad at all. I guess she just wants to make my dad happy, and if she really does love him-even if it's just a little-I don't exactly blame her. I'm so in love there isn't anything I wouldn't do for Ally, so I guess I can kinda see where my mom is coming from, even if I know I love Ally more than she loves my dad. It's just a fact.
My thoughts go on like this while I shower, and they end up circling right back around to my plan to get Ally to believe I love her. As I think about it more, I realize how unlikely it is that it'll work. I mean, it's just a love song. How many of those have I written about her? Sure, three of them were for a project, but still. What's one more song gonna do?
I wonder if the other presents I got her will help. I mean, it's Christmas, and as her 'best friend' it's my job to get her Christmas presents. But she knows I love her. Well, I've told her I do. So she must know that the gifts aren't just 'Merry Christmas from your best friend' gifts.
I turn of the shower and dry off before getting out and putting on some boxers and sweatpants. I brush my teeth and then walk back in my room and collapse in my bed. I didn't realize how tired I was.
Before I know it, I'm drifting off to sleep.
"Austin, grab Ella before she-" Ally gets cut off when a little blonde girl-probably about three or four years old-grabs a glass Christmas ornament off a table and lets it drop to the ground. Luckily, she's on carpet, so the ornament doesn't break. I pick up Ella and put away the Christmas ornament.
"Ally, what's going on?" I ask as Ella plays with my nose. Ally gives me a strange look.
"We're decorating the Christmas tree. Duh. You took three hours trying to pick out the perfect one," she says. I blink.
"Okay…And who's this?" I ask, adjusting Ella in my arms. Ally gives me an even stranger look.
"Your daughter."
"My-huh?!" I exclaim, looking at the girl in my arms. She does look like me… "Well, who's the mom?" Ally gives me the strangest look of all.
"Your wife, genius. Y'know, the one you've been married to for the past fifteen years?" she says, holding up her left hand. Sure enough, I see a diamond ring and a wedding band. I look at my own hand and see a ring on my finger as well. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," I say. "Um…how old are we?"
"Thirty-seven. Did you hit your head or something?"
"No," I reply. "Nevermind." Suddenly, I hear a door open and close.
"We're home!" a chorus of three young voices-two male and one female-call.
"Don't track sand in the clean house!" Ally calls back.
"Too late!" one of the boys replies. Ally sighs.
"Mom, tell Jayden to get out of my room!" a girl's voice yells. Definitely not the one I heard come in.
"Dad, tell Maia to quit playing my guitar!" one of the boys calls.
"Mom, Ryan's bothering me!" the younger girl's voice carries down the hall.
"Everyone, come help with the tree!" Ally yells. I hear some noises from down the hall.
"Ally, how many kids do we have?!" I ask.
"Okay, something is seriously wrong with you," she says. "You need to go to a doctor."
"Daddy's sick?!" Ella asks worriedly. I swallow.
"No, no. Da-Daddy's fine," I say, choking on my words. What's going on?!
"Well, we have five kids, since apparently you don't remember."
"Five?!" I exclaim. Ally nods. "But…But I'm still a kid!"
"Sometimes it feels that way…" Ally says. "Now I feel like you're playing a trick on me, and so I know you're gonna ask their names and ages. Melody is fourteen, Jayden is thirteen, Maia is nine, Ryan is seven, and Ella is four."
"Why did we have kids so late? Doesn't that, like, increase the risks of diseases?" I ask. Ally looks at me like I'm insane.
"You were begging for Ryan and Ella! Even after all these years, you surprise me with your acting skills. Now, cut it out so we can decorate the tree."
This is completely insane.
"Hey, Mom! Hey, Dad!" Jayden (I think) says, coming into what I'm assuming is the living room. "Hi, Ella!" Ella grins and waves at him.
"Did you have fun at the beach?" Ally asks. I gape.
"We let our kids go to the beach alone?!" Ally blinks.
"We can see them from the window, remember?" she says, pointing behind me. I whip around and see that there is a beach right outside our window. Literally.
"What's up with Dad?" Jayden asks as the other three kids come down the hall.
"Who knows?" Ally replies.
"Daddy, you gotta play the reindeer song!" Ella says excitedly.
"Not this again," Melody complains, scrolling through her phone. "Ella, he played it a hundred times yesterday."
"I like it!" Ella exclaims. Ally snatches Melody's phone away from her.
"Hey!" Melody exclaims.
"Mel, we're having family time," Ally says. "You kids have no idea how lucky you are to have parents who love each other-and you-so much." I smile at that, even though I'm still totally confused as to what's going on.
"Yeah, yeah," Melody says, rolling her eyes. "I know."
"Can we decorate the tree now?!" Ryan asks excitedly. Ally smiles.
"Go ahead," she says. Jayden, Maia, Ryan, and even Melody all rush to the table full of ornaments excitedly. I go to set Ella down to join the fun, but she tightens her grip around my neck, so I stand back up.
"You don't wanna help your brothers and sisters?" I ask. She shakes her head.
"I wanna play with you and Mommy!" she exclaims.
In that moment, everything hits me. I got Ally to believe me. We're married with five kids. Ally and I have a family together, a family who loves each other and knows it. This young girl in my arms is my child. Her blonde locks prove it.
But she's Ally's child, too. That thought is the one that goes straight to my heart and I feel it beat faster with this reality. There's no denying that Ally is the mother. I can see it in the way Ella's eyes light up at everything. I can see it in her smile. I can see it in the way she speaks, articulating each word to ensure that she is understood. Even at such a young age, she's glowing with Ally's intelligence and beauty. All the kids are.
I would continue mulling this over in my head, but Ally says my name and pats the spot next to her on the couch. I walk over and sit down, setting Ella in my lap. She snuggles in between Ally and me, still sitting on our laps because Ally and I are sitting too close for anyone to sit between us. Ally wraps an arm around Ella and I do the same, interlocking our fingers where they meet at Ella's stomach.
"We did good, Moon Boy," Ally says as we watch our other kids decorate the Christmas tree. I smile and kiss Ella's head.
"Ally Moon, huh?" I say.
"Yes, I'm pretty sure that's my name," she says. I smile wider.
"Yeah. We did good."
I open my eyes slowly and look around. Okay, this is my bedroom. I check the date. December 24, 2013. Okay, I'm still seventeen. I check my left hand. No ring. But, just to be sure, and because I'm in the mood to talk to her, I call Ally on my phone.
"Hello?" Ally's tired voice comes over the line after the second ring. I look at the clock and see that it's 7:14 a.m. Oops.
"Sorry, did I wake you up?" I ask.
"No," she replies. "I woke up right before the phone started ringing. What's up? Nightmare?" I swallow.
"No, quite the opposite actually. How old are we?"
"Seventeen," she replies, not sounding too surprised at the random question.
"Okay, and we're not married," I say matter-of-factly.
"We're not even out of high school. Or dating," Ally reminds me. I nod, even though she can't see me.
"So the five kids are out of the question. Okay."
"What did you dream about?" she asks.
"It was weird," I say. "A good weird. A very, very good weird, but…" I trail off. "I dunno. I had no idea what was going on but apparently we were thirty-seven and married for fifteen years with five kids."
"Five kids?!"
"Yeah. Melody, Jayden, Maia, Ryan, and Ella. And it was Christmas time 'cause the kids were decorating the tree. Well, Ella wasn't. She was only four, and she wanted to sit on the couch with us. That dream felt so real…" I say.
"Hey, I'm really sorry, but I have to be at a thing at my dad's work at nine and I'm still at Trish's so I gotta go. I'll talk to you later," she says.
"Yeah, okay," I reply, still thinking about the dream.
"Bye," she says. I hear the line go dead and I hang up my phone. Then, I bury my face in my pillow and try to go back to sleep and get back to that dream.
Yeah, that doesn't work too well.
After another hour of tossing and turning and thinking about Ally, I decide to get up. I quickly get ready and then grab my guitar and start practicing the song I'm gonna sing to Ally.
After I play through it a few times, I record myself playing a guitar solo on one of my electric guitars. I'm going to play my acoustic for the rest of the song, but I have an idea for the guitar solo, and I need my hands free.
Once I'm done recording the guitar solo, I practice the song a few more times. Then, Rydel pokes her head in my room.
"Are you gonna sing that to Ally?" she asks.
"No, I'm gonna sing it to Mrs. Piggy. Yes, I'm gonna sing it to Ally," I say, plucking a few strings.
"She's gonna love it. And you. And believe you love her." I smile.
"Will she, now?" Rydel nods enthusiastically. My smile widens. "Well, I hope so."
"You really love her, don't you?"
"That's a stupid question," I reply, still smiling. Rydel smiles, too. "Yeah, I do. And every day I just fall even more in love with her."
"And what do you think about that?" Rydel asks, leaning against my desk.
"I think that it's the most amazing feeling in the world," I tell her.
"Then as long as you remember that, you'll get her to believe you. I see the way you look at her, even the way you look just thinking about her. You look like you've won the lottery, and you two aren't even together yet. You're gonna marry her someday," Rydel says. And for the first time, I can tell she actually means it. This isn't just her fangirling over Ally and me. Rydel seriously believes that I'm going to marry Ally someday, and that means a lot to me.
"Thanks, Delly. Now go get ready so we can go to your future husband's house." She grins.
"Will do, Aus." She salutes me and walks out of the room.
I decide I've practiced enough and that if I really am meant to be with Ally soon, it'll go fine. And if I'm meant to go through a lot more trouble to be with her, then it'll go wrong. But one thing's for certain: I am meant to be with Ally.
I'm about to go downstairs and watch TV, but then my phone starts blaring Ally's voice singing Say Something. I smile and pick it up.
"Hello, beautiful," I say. "I thought you had that thing at your dad's work?"
"Hello to you, too," she says. "And I'm there right now, but I'm bored to death."
"So you called me," I say with a grin.
"Well, you always seem to be able to entertain me."
"That I do, Ally dear." I lay down on my bed and stare up at my ceiling as I talk to her. "So are you, like, hiding in the bathroom or something?"
"Yes I am," she replies. I chuckle. "I'm so bored I'm counting the tiles on the wall."
"Aw, sucks for you, sweetheart."
"Yeah, it does," she says, far used to all the nicknames I have for her. "So, make it suck less." I grin.
"Hmm…What to talk about…" I trail off. "Well, in my dream we had a beach right outside our window."
"Did we?" she asks.
"Yeah," I reply. "Jayden, Maia, and Ryan all came home from the beach and since I didn't know what was going on, I started freaking out about us letting our kids go to the beach alone, and you thought I was pulling a prank on you 'cause I didn't know anything."
"Intriguing."
"Mmhm. It was a very nice dream."
"Better than your nightmares, that's for sure," Ally agrees.
"Yes. And I have decided that I wanna marry you someday, Ally Dawson."
"Whatever you say," she replies.
"So how was your week with Trish? I've missed you, dude."
"Good," she says. "We went shopping a bunch, like I told you."
"Fun. Did you talk about boyyyyssss?" I ask teasingly. Ally chuckles.
"What do you think, Moon Boy?" she says. "Especially after everything you told her yesterday."
"Oops," I say.
"To be honest, I'm getting kind of annoyed with everyone fawning over us. I mean, yeah, I guess our story is kinda cute and I don't really blame them for rooting for us to be together, but it's like, we'll get together when we're ready, y'know?" she says. I imagine her pacing the bathroom and making gestures with her free hand while she talks, and I smile.
"Yeah," I say. "I dunno. Maybe they're getting annoyed with us. Like, they all know you love me, and they all know I love you. I think they're tired of us constantly flirting and acting like a couple, but refusing to label ourselves as a couple."
"But it isn't really any of their business if we-"
"I know," I interrupt her. "But you and I both know that they just want us to be happy. And we know that they know that we know we make each other happy. They think all of this is a little pointless because even the both of us know we'll end up together eventually, so why not cut the crap, y'know? I mean, that's just what I'm assuming their opinions are."
"I guess, but, like, they know everything that's happened, so they should understand that I'm still afraid."
"They do understand, Als," I tell her. "But what they understand that you don't yet is that I really do love you, and that even if I do hurt you again, I won't give up on you, and I won't stop fighting for you until…well, until forever. See, they've seen me try to be without you. And you, well, haven't. I mean, yeah, you've seen what being without you does to me, but you haven't seen just how crazy it makes me not to be with you. And they have. So they know that I can't not be with you and be even remotely happy. But you don't understand that yet." Ally's silent for a moment.
"I wanna understand. I'm trying to. You know that, don't you?" I nod, but then I remember she can't see me.
"Yeah, I know. But you just can't yet. And that's okay. Part of you knows that I'm a bad idea, that I'm destined to break your heart. But the other part of you knows that I love you and everything I'm telling you is true. Unfortunately, the part that's trying to protect you is winning the battle right now."
"I want it to lose," she says, and I imagine that adorable pout on her face. I chuckle.
"I know you do, Als."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry," I tell her. "I dunno about you, but I'm finding the positive. When we do finally get together, it'll be that much better because of everything we went through."
"How do you do that?" she asks.
"Do what?"
"See the bright side in everything."
"I learned it from you," I reply. "And I don't see the bright side in everything. Only things with you. Because as long as we're at least friends, every side's a bright side."
"You're crazy romantic when you try," Ally tells me. I chuckle and turn onto my side on my bed, holding my phone to my ear.
"Dude, I'm not even trying."
"Yeah, I believe that about as much as I'd believe Dallas got into an honors class," Ally says. I imagine her rolling her eyes and I laugh.
"I'm not even kidding. These are literally the things that run through my head 24/7. My manliness is running thin, and I don't even care. I'm the definition of a lovesick puppy and I'm happy about it. Dude, I'm a mess." Ally laughs.
"I'm sure you're exaggerating. A lot."
"I'm sure you're sure. But I'm not." I giggle. "I just rhymed with you." Ally chuckles. "Ally," I say, adjusting my position so I'm hanging upside down off my bed, "I don't even know how to be romantic."
"But you keep saying things that are."
"Exactly! But I can't intentionally be romantic. If I try to be romantic, I will most likely end up a stuttering mess." Ally laughs again.
"I love awkward Austin."
"Austin doesn't love awkward Austin," I tell her. "Austin loves cool, collected Austin. Not sees-Ally-and-has-to-freaking-remind-himself-how-to-breathe Austin." She giggles.
"I think you remember how to breathe."
"I'm not exaggerating, Ally. It's happened on more than one occasion."
"Well, either way-"
"There you are!" I hear a woman exclaim on Ally's end, cutting Ally off. "We've been looking all over for you, dear! Why're you in here? Who're you talking to?"
"Jenny!" I hear Ally exclaim in fake enthusiasm. "Um, I was just talking to-um…"
"Your boyfriend," I say quickly.
"My boyfriend!" I hear Ally tell the woman. Then Ally inhales sharply and I can almost feel her glaring at me. I crack up.
"Your boyfriend?!" I hear the woman-Jenny, I guess-exclaim in shock. "How did you come about a boyfriend?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ally asks. I grin as I imagine her with her hand on her hip and her eyebrows raised challengingly. Ally is overall just an adorable person, but I gotta admit sassy Ally is kinda hot. But also adorable at the same time. Is that even possible?
"Nothing, dear," Jenny says. "I wanna say hi to him! As your father's top employee, I feel a personal connection to you. And I wanna make sure this boy will treat you right."
"No, it's fine, really," Ally says. "We aren't even that serious. I mean, you could hardly even consider us dating. We're more like best friends who're slightly attracted to each other, if even. There's no need for-"
"Nonsense!" Jenny exclaims. I hear a strange noise that I assume is Jenny's fingers passing over the phone as she snatches it from Ally.
"At least put him on speaker so I can monitor what he says!" Ally exclaims.
"Why would you have to monitor what he says? Have you two done anything that you don't want anyone knowing about?" Jenny asks. That's when I lose it. I laugh so hard I fall off the bed and tears start streaming from my eyes. I clutch my stomach and curl up on the floor, cracking up.
"Jenny!" Ally exclaims. "How dare you even think that?! It's Christmas Eve!"
"Teenagers these days…you never know," Jenny replies. I hear another noise and then Ally speaks into the phone.
"I'm going to kill you the next time I see you," Ally says menacingly. I'm still cracking up.
"I'm sure you will," I say through my laughter.
"Tell my dad I'm going home, okay?" Ally says to Jenny.
"But-" Jenny starts.
"I really just wanna go home," Ally interrupts. I grin.
"Hey, babe, why don't you come over to my place and-"
"Austin Monica Moon!" Ally shouts into the phone. I start cracking up again.
"Alright, Ally. Well, I guess I'll tell your father you're leaving," I hear Jenny say.
"Thanks," Ally replies. She says nothing for a few seconds, and I assume she's leaving the mall. "Why do you do these things?" she asks.
"Because it's hilarious. And I really wanted to hear you call me your boyfriend," I say.
"That's…actually kind of adorable. Weird, but adorable," Ally says. I grin.
"Austin," Rydel says, coming into my room, "you ready to go?" I nod and put up a finger to signal that I need a second.
"I gotta go," I say. "We're going to the Lynches'. You can come if you want."
"Thanks," she says. "But I'm exhausted. I'm gonna take, like, a seven hour nap." I chuckle.
"Okay," I reply. "Talk to you later, Als."
"Bye."
"Bye, love you," I say. But she already hung up. I put my phone in my pocket and stand up. "Okay, let's go," I say to my sister. She tilts her head.
"You tell her you love her every time you hang up the phone?" she asks. I nod.
"Yeah, of course I do. Is that weird?" I ask as we walk out of my room and down the stairs.
"No, it's just…" Rydel trails off, and I don't push her. We walk to my car in silence, and I let Rydel drive. "So how's Ally?" she asks after we're buckled up.
"Good," I reply. "She went to a thing at the mall for her dad's work and some lady found her hiding in the bathroom talking to me and I got her to call me her boyfriend and so I'm good, too." Rydel chuckles and shakes her head.
"You…" I grin.
"She yelled at me. And then said I was adorable." I sigh. "This is so bad," I say, still smiling. "I am in way over my head and she is pretty much the only thing that affects my happiness and this is not good." My smile doesn't fade. Rydel glances over at me.
"Then why're you smiling?"
"I don't know. I should be terrified that she has so much power over me but I'm not."
"You're whipped."
"Yeah…"
We don't speak again until we arrive at the Lynches'. Rydel parks in front of their house and we walk through the back gate; the 'brunch' is always held in the back yard.
Everyone is already there, and we're instantly greeted by a bunch of smiles and hugs from our friends' moms. (The dads are playing football with the guys and Kelly.) We smile and hug them back and it's pretty much like one of those awkward family parties where you hardly know anyone, except it isn't awkward and we do know everyone.
"Austin, you must've grown six inches in the past month!" Ratliff's mom exclaims. I chuckle.
"That's a bit of an exaggeration," I reply.
"Rydel, you just get more beautiful by the day!" Dez's mom tells my sister. She smiles.
"Thanks, Mrs. Worthy."
"So, Austin, have you got yourself a girlfriend yet?" Mrs. Lynch asks. The parents don't exactly know about my little act. They didn't really need to.
"Well-" Rydel starts.
"I'm working on it," I interrupt with a smile.
"Austin's got a girlfriend?!" Kelly's mom exclaims. All the other moms start freaking out. They're almost as bad as Rydel and Kelly.
"No," I interrupt them, "I don't have a girlfriend yet." They all stop talking and frown.
"Now, I don't believe that. Good looking boy like you must have girls lined up to date you!" Dez's mom says.
"He does!" Rydel pipes up.
"I do," I repeat. "I'm just not dating any of them."
"Teenagers," Ratliff's mom says. I chuckle and Rydel and I walk over to our friends and their dads.
"Uh-oh," Ratliff says.
"The Moons have arrived," Kelly says with a grin, walking over to hug my sister. "Why have we not hung out all spring break?" Rydel smiles.
"I've been busy comforting my poor, lovesick brother," she says, patting my shoulder.
"Lovesick?" Mr. Lynch says.
"That is correct," Rydel replies.
"Our little boy's in love," Rocky says, pretending to hold back tears.
"With someone other than himself," Riker adds. The parents may not know about me being the bad boy, but they do know I've had my slightly conceited moments.
"With who?" Ratliff's dad asks, exaggerating interest.
"Ally Dawson," Dez replies.
"The one we were telling you guys about earlier," Rocky explains.
"The one your brother said he'd consider asking out if…" Mr. Voosen trails off when he sees the look I'm giving Riker.
"There's an if!" he exclaims.
"Doesn't help," I reply. "Mine." Riker puts his hands up, signaling surrender.
"Calm down, Austin," Ratliff says. "No one's out to steal your girl."
"Food's ready!" we hear Mrs. Lynch call. We all look at each other.
"FOOD!" we yell simultaneously. We stampede to the counter on the porch and fill our plates with food.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!" Rocky exclaims happily, taking his full plate to the table.
"AND MAY THE PRESENTS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR!" Riker adds, doing the same. We all laugh and follow them to the table with our food.
"Thanks moms!" I chorus with my friends and their dads. The moms laugh and we all start eating.
"Y'know," Rocky says, his mouth full of food, "Ally could've come if she wanted to."
"Don't talk with your mouth full," Rydel tells him, scrunching her nose. Rocky swallows.
"Sorry, babe," Rocky says, smiling apologetically. Rydel smiles.
"Yeah, why didn't you invite your girlfriend?" Riker asks, getting back on topic.
"I did, idiot," I say, not bothering to correct him because he already knows we aren't dating. "She's exhausted."
"Aw, wittol Awwy is tired?" Ratliff says. Riker and Rocky start clapping, and the parents all give them strange looks.
"We're clapping for Rydel," Riker explains.
"She performed a miracle getting Austin here, when he could've easily gone and cuddled with a sleepy Ally," Rocky adds. My friends laugh and start clapping too, while Rydel grins and stands up, taking bows.
"Thank you, thank you," she says. I roll my eyes.
"I can cuddle with Ally anytime-I seriously doubt she'd mind. But this is only once a year," I say. The parents 'aww' and Mrs. Lynch-who's sitting right next to me-pinches my cheek.
"In that case, EAT!" Kelly exclaims, taking a bite of her food. I chuckle and continue eating, listening to the parents catch up.
"Stormie, the boys are getting so tall!" Dez's mom exclaims. Mrs. Lynch nods.
"They're as tall as Mark!" she says. Mr. Lynch looks up at the sound of his name, but then goes back to talking to the dads about the latest football game.
"So, how are he and Rydel doing?" Ratliff's mom asks.
"Happy as ever!" Mrs. Lynch says happily. "And Ellington and Kelly?"
"Just the same!" Kelly's mom says.
The mothers keep talking about their kids' relationships and how they wish their kids had relationships and how excited they are about whatever relationship I'm going to be in.
"So, Austin, what're doing for your birthday?" Riker asks me.
"I'm gonna be on the ski trip with Dez," I reply. "All gifts may be left at either Ally's or Kelly's house for my retrieval when I return home," I add, acting business-like. My friends roll their eyes.
"Your Christmas presents are enough," Rocky says. Kelly scoffs.
"Our friendship is good enough."
"I agree!" Ratliff says.
"You can be a jerk sometimes…" Dez agrees.
"Not since I met Ally!" I argue. They all shrug.
"Whatever you say, Aus," Rydel says.
"Good to know you all love me," I say, pouting.
"We do!" Kelly says.
"You know how it is," Ratliff adds. I roll my eyes and take a bit of food grumpily.
"Mmhm…"
"Don't be like that," Riker says, rolling his eyes. I swallow my food and get up to throw away my empty plate.
"Like what?" I ask.
"All…" Rocky trails off and makes a grumpy face. I shrug.
"I think someone's missing Ally…" Kelly says. I shrug again.
"I just talked to her," I say. "I'm fine."
"Yeah, but you haven't been able to touch her in almost a week," Kelly reminds me.
"No hugs…" Ratliff says.
"No shoulder nudges…" Riker continues.
"No using her as an armrest…" Rocky adds.
"No hand holding…" Dez says.
"No kissing…" Rydel reminds me. I roll my eyes.
"I'm fine. You people seem to have forgotten that I used to not like her. I know how to live without her," I say.
"You used to know how to live without her," Dez corrects me. I open my mouth to say something, but then I close it, not having a response.
"Thought so," Kelly says. I roll my eyes.
"Whatever! I miss the girl I love! Sue me!" My friends laugh and one by one throw away their empty plates.
For the next few hours, my friends and I play football, tag, and a bunch of other games like that with our-their-parents. The moms gossip about other moms, talk about recipes, and do other mom-related things.
All too soon, we're saying our goodbyes. It's not often when all of us can get together like this, so we really enjoy it when we can. Most of the families have to go off to other Christmas Eve dinners later, and everyone makes sure to tell each other to have a great time and a Merry Christmas. As for Rydel and me…well, we're told to have a Merry Christmas as well and tell our parents hello if we get the chance.
Rydel and I hug our friends and their parents goodbye and-after sitting through a good ten minute period of the moms telling me to 'get my girl'-head out the gate to my car.
"That was fun," Rydel says as we get in. I nod.
"Yeah. I miss hanging out with them. It's been a while since all the Ally drama has been a minor thing between all of us, y'know?" Rydel nods and we buckle up.
"It was nice to hang out just us again. Don't get me wrong, Ally's one of my best friends now, but I liked it just being us for a little bit." I start the car and head home.
"Yeah, I agree. But I still miss her a crapton." Rydel chuckles.
"We know, Austin. We know."
"Think she's missing me?" I ask.
"Probably," Rydel replies. I smile.
"I love her," I say. "I say that, like, every five seconds now, but I just love loving her. And if I don't say it enough all the happiness and love will just build up inside me and I'll explode."
"Yeah, I can tell," Rydel says.
When we get home, I go up to my room to practice the song a few more times before going back downstairs to help Rydel with dinner. Our parents will be home for dinner, as they get off work early Christmas Eve, so we have to finish making it before then. Rydel starts on the ham, and I start on the potatoes.
For some reason, I feel really pressured to impress my parents. Well, mainly my dad. I should stress about his opinion so much, but I'm afraid he won't like the food we're making. I know that shouldn't affect anything if he loves us, though I doubt he does. Hopefully, we don't fight tonight. Usually the fighting doesn't occur till Christmas Day, but I'm worried that tonight will be worse than past years.
I spend the next hour continuing to help make dinner while constantly switching between stressing about my dad and thinking of Ally. But for once, Ally occupies the minority of my thoughts.
At about four, I decide to go over to Ally's, mainly because I'm pretty sure Ally's dad is still at work and I kinda wanna do this without him around. I tell Rydel about the situation and apologize for leaving her to make dinner alone.
"It's okay," she says. "Don't come back till she believes you." I smile.
"Thanks, Delly."
"Go!" she exclaims. I chuckle, run upstairs to grab my stuff, and then head out the door.
The whole way over to Ally's, I tap my fingers on the wheel to the beat of my song and sing it under my breath. This has to be perfect.
When I get there, I grab everything and walk up to the door. I glance back at the sun just beginning to set, and then knock.
Ally opens the door, running a hand through her door and yawning, her eyes closing before she sees me. She's wearing a big red hoodie and white pajama pants with candy canes on them, and she looks adorable.
"Hi, sleepyhead," I say with a smile. She opens her eyes and her face brightens.
"Austin!" she exclaims, wrapping her arms around my neck. I chuckle and hug her back.
"Long time no see, Als," I say. We pull away.
"What're you doing here? Shouldn't you be with your family?" she asks.
"My parents aren't home yet, and I have to give you your Christmas presents, silly!" I say.
"Austin, you don't-"
"Yes I do," I interrupt. She rolls her eyes, but smiles.
"Okay, come in," she says, stepping aside so I can walk in.
"Is your dad gonna come kill me?" I ask nervously.
"Nah. He's on his way home from work."
"Okay, good," I say. "I don't wanna die. Okay, so first…" I trail off and reach into the bag I carried her presents in and pull out a jar of pickles with a red bow on it.
"Pickles!" she exclaims, snatching the jar from my hands.
"I owed you a jar from beating me at the obstacle course at the park," I explain. She grins.
"Thank you!" She goes to hug me, but I stop her.
"I'm not done yet, Als. You should know me better than that." She chuckles. I reach in the bag and take out a small blue box. "This is, like, your real present." I hand the box to her and she opens it.
"Austin, it's beautiful!" she exclaims. Inside the box is a necklace with a silver treble clef charm on it. There's a small diamond on the end of the treble clef. I smile at her.
"Glad you like it." I take the necklace out of the box, and she turns around and moves her hair. I put the necklace around her neck and do the clasp. I smile when she shivers as my fingers brush her neck. "Guess we're even on the whole cheesy move thing, hmm?" I whisper in her ear.
"Guess so," she replies, turning around to hug me. I grin and hug her back.
"I'm still not done yet," I tell her when we pull away. "It wouldn't be right if I didn't have a song for you, now would it?" I grab my guitar that I previously leaned against the wall.
"No, I guess it wouldn't," she says with a smile.
"That's a nice tree," I say, nodding towards the lit up Christmas tree we're standing in front of as I make sure my guitar is in tune.
"Thanks," she says. "My dad and I are kind of obsessed with having the perfect tree every year." I chuckle.
"Well, your obsession paid off." Once I'm satisfied that my guitar is, in fact, in tune, I say, "By the way, I had to prerecord a little part 'cause it's on an electric guitar and obviously, this isn't an electric." Ally chuckles and I smile and start playing and singing.
You make my heart beat
Faster than you know
When you meet me
Underneath the mistletoe
'Cause all I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
All dressed up
Sweet as a candy cane
My angel brighter than the one
On top of the tree
Ooh - ee
So sweet
But ooh
Every single move
My eyes on you
Making it harder to sleep
But if I don't close my eyes
Santa can't bring to me ooh
And all the presents under the tree
They don't compare to you and me
Outside, the snow is falling
Inside, the temperature's rising
You make my heart beat
Faster than you know
When you meet me
Underneath the mistletoe
'Cause all I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
Saint Nick, Mr Santa Claus
You know my wishlist really isn't long
All I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
Woah oh oh oh woah
Cuddled up right by the fire
Think I hear those jingle bells
Ringing right down the street
Ooh - ee
So sweet
Were cuddled up, you and me
All the presents under the tree
They don't compare to you and me
Sweet dreams can't wait 'til morning
'Cause tonight, Santa is coming
You make my heart beat
Faster than you know
When you meet me
Underneath the mistletoe
'Cause all I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
Saint Nick, Mr Santa Claus
You know my wishlist really isn't long
All I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
At this part, I quickly move my guitar around to my back and hold out my hand while the guitar solo starts. Ally smiles and takes my hand, putting her other hand on my shoulder. I put mine on her waist and start swaying, grinning down at her. Her smile fades slightly for a second and she searches my eyes, but then it returns, even wider than before.
The guitar solo isn't long, so after a few seconds I twirl her and let go, bringing my guitar back around to keep playing.
All the presents under the tree
They don't compare to you and me
Sweet dreams can't wait 'til morning
'Cause tonight, Santa is coming
You make my heart beat
Faster than you know
When you meet me
Underneath the mistletoe
'Cause all I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
Saint Nick, Mr Santa Claus
You know my wishlist really isn't long
All I want for Christmas
Is a kiss
Just a kiss
One kiss from you
I finish the song and set my guitar down.
"That was sweet," Ally says, smiling. I smile back.
"Okay, I'm done." Ally giggles and hugs me. I wrap my arms around her waist.
"I don't have your present yet," she tells me.
"Didn't you hear the song, Als?" I ask, chuckling. "You can give me my present anytime. I mean, the present that I really, really, really want. Of course, anything from you is-"
She cuts me off by kissing me. Again. I need to ramble more often.
Immediately, I smile into it and kiss her back, my eyes fluttering closed. She smiles too and even giggles a bit. I pull her closer.
She moves her hands from around my neck to rest on my shoulders and pulls me down a bit closer, and then I conclude we can't get any closer than we are right now.
"I love you so, so much," I mumble against her lips.
"I know," she mumbles back. I pull away slightly, my heart pounding.
"What?" I ask, opening my eyes to look down at her. She opens hers, too, and smiles up at me.
"I know," she repeats. "I love you, too." My heart beats faster and I grin wider than I ever have in my life. I lean my forehead against hers.
"You saw the thing?" She giggles.
"I saw the thing."
"How? When?"
"During the song, when we were dancing." She wraps her arms around my neck again. "You were-and have been-looking at me like I'm the only thing you can see, like I'm the only thing that matters in the entire universe." My smile widens.
"Because you are."
"You love me," she says, sounding surprised and happy and every good emotion anyone can ever feel.
"I love you," I echo. "You know what happens next, right?"
"You tell me you told me so and kiss me?" I smile even wider.
"Smart girl. I told you so."
True to my word, I close my eyes reconnect our lips, but we can hardly kiss properly because we're both smiling so much. But I think we'll have plenty of time to kiss correctly in the near future.
Keeping our lips connected, I reach into my back pocket and pull out the familiar white Avengers hat and place it on her head. Backwards, of course, so I can keep kissing her. She smiles wider, knowing exactly what it is.
"This isn't working," Ally says, pulling away slightly and giggling. I keep my forehead against hers and adjust my head. "Stupid smiling."
"Stupid happiness," I reply, chuckling.
"Stupid love," she adds.
"I just had a thought," I say.
"Did you, now?"
"Even though you believe me and suchness, I'm not the happiest I could ever be."
"You're not?" Ally asks, genuinely confused.
"No, no I'm not," I say. "We can easily fix that, though. Make me the happiest I could ever be ever and be my girlfriend." Ally presses her lips to mine for a few seconds, and my grin widens, if that's even possible. "I'll take that as a yes?" She pulls away from me to look up in my eyes, grinning just as wide as I am.
"You can take that as a heck yes."
"Remember that time I was scared to be your boyfriend?" I ask. She nods. "Idiot." We both crack up-even though it's not very funny-and I can feel the pure happiness radiating off of her, knowing I'm doing the same thing. I pick her up and spin her around a few times, causing her to squeal and laugh harder.
"Austin, you're gonna hit the tree!" I laugh and set her down.
"I wouldn't have hit the tree."
"You would have."
"Only if I got dizzy." She rolls her eyes, but the huge smile doesn't leave her face. I pull her in for a hug, and that's when it hits me.
I did it. I actually did it. She believes I love her. She's my girlfriend. Ally Dawson is officially mine, and no one can take her from me, not anymore. My eyes tear up a bit; don't judge me for being happy.
"I love you, Ally Dawson. More than I've loved anyone or anything in my entire life, and more than I ever will."
"I love you, too," she says. "What you said." I laugh and sniffle. She pulls away to look at me. "Are you…Are you crying?"
"Maybe," I say, sniffling again and grinning. Ally laughs, and I laugh, and soon enough we're both laughing so hard we're doubled over and clutching our stomachs in pain with tears streaming down our red faces.
"You should probably go," Ally says once we've calmed down enough to talk.
"I know," I say. "We have to video chat every single day when I'm gone, okay?"
"It's a date," she says with a grin.
"Really?!" I ask excitedly. She nods.
"Really."
"I'll take you on a real one when I get home," I promise her.
"Can't wait," she replies. I smile and kiss her one last time before picking up my guitar and opening the front door.
"Love you," I tell her as she flips the hat around to face forward. She smiles at me.
"Love you, too." She waves and shuts the door, and I do a quick happy dance before running to my car. I put my guitar in the back and jump over the door into the driver's seat.
The whole ride home, I can't stop singing or tapping my fingers on the steering wheel, or doing anything that involves moving. I have so much energy, and I can't sit still. If I were to put a reason to why I have so much energy all of a sudden, I'd probably guess that it's because I'm freaking out that Ally just became my girlfriend.
I don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but ALLY DAWSON IS MY GIRLFRIEND! Oh, I have mentioned it? Oh, well. Ally's my girlfriend. She's actually my girlfriend. And she believes I love her. Life is really great right now.
When I get home, I grab my guitar and run inside. I bound up the stairs two at a time, put my guitar in my room, and dash back down.
"Took you long enough!" Rydel exclaims, putting the last of the finished food on the table. "Mom just texted and they're pulling into the neighborhood right now."
"Well, good thing I got home in time," I reply.
"So…how'd it go?" she asks excitedly. I shrug, deciding to surprise her with my relationship with Ally when I have Ally with me. Mainly because I don't want to be the only one being interrogated, and I know Ally will want to see Rydel's face. "That's it?!" I shrug again.
"I don't wanna talk about it."
Before Rydel can say anything else, we hear the garage door open and close.
"We're home!" my mom calls. Rydel and I look at each other.
"Try not to fight with Dad," she tells me quietly. I nod.
"I'll do my best."
"Daddy!" she exclaims with forced excitement, leaving the kitchen and running to go hug our dad.
"Mom!" I exclaim with real excitement, following her and hugging my mom.
"Merry Christmas Eve!" Mom says. We pull apart and Rydel and I switch places.
"Son," my father says, forcing a smile. We shake hands.
"Dad."
Now, let me get something straight. My dad isn't necessarily a bad guy. He's never touched a drug in his life, he doesn't smoke, and he hasn't been drunk since he was in college. He's just never around, and I'm bitter about that for reasons I've stated time and time again. We don't see eye to eye, and we argue a lot because of it. But at the end of the day, I know he just wants me to be successful, and he doesn't believe a career in music will give me that. Even though Rydel and I were an accident and maybe he doesn't love us or my mom as much as I wish he did, I know he still cares enough to want the best for us. I just forget that sometimes, especially if I'm in an argument.
"That food smells amazing," my mom says. "I always feel so terrible that you guys make dinner, but-"
"Don't mention it, Mom," I say. "Good twin bonding. We're just glad to see you guys."
"Yeah, we can't really complain if the reason you can't make dinner is because you're doing what keeps a roof over our heads and pays for the dinner we're making," Rydel adds.
"Well, thank you," Dad says. Our parents put their work stuff down and we all go in the kitchen and sit at the table.
"So, what've you guys been up to lately?" Mom asks as we fill our plates.
"Well," Rydel says, "our lives have mainly been revolving around Austin and his love life." I look down at my plate and take a bite of food.
"With that Ally girl you told me about," Mom says.
"Ally, hmm?" Dad says. My cheeks turn red. This is not a conversation I wanna have right now. I don't know if I'll be able to keep myself from blurting out the fact that we're dating.
"Yeah," Rydel says. "He's in love with her, and she's in love with him, but she doesn't believe he's in love with her-long story-so now they're just best friends but they wanna date but they can't 'cause Ally's afraid of heartbreak."
Not anymore, I think to myself smugly.
"Aw," Mom says.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if she's worth all that trouble," Dad says. I swallow, trying not to get angry. What does he know? He's never even around! He doesn't know her!
Right, he's not a bad guy; he only wants the best for me.
"She is," I reply.
"They're meant for each other," Rydel agrees, taking a bite of the ham.
"Well, in that case, I can't wait to meet her," Mom says.
"Neither can I," Dad says. I force a smile.
"I'm sure she can't wait to meet you guys, either."
The rest of dinner goes by with awkward comfort. As in, it's incredibly awkward because we're family yet we haven't all been together like this in…I don't even know how long, but comfortable because we're so used to this awkwardness. We don't really know any other way.
Our parents clean the dishes-it's the least they can do since Rydel and I (okay, mainly Rydel, but I had a bit of an important matter to take care of) made dinner.
I take a fast shower, pull on some boxers, brush my teeth, and collapse in bed, snuggling deep within my blankets. I close my eyes, but reopen them when I hear my phone vibrate against my nightstand. I look at it and smile when I see Ally's name.

I quickly put my phone on do not disturb and plug it in to the charger. Then I set it on my desk and slide it out of my reach so I don't feel the urge to check it. Ally needs to sleep, and so do I.
I close my eyes and let myself drift off to sleep.
YAY! Okay, so the computer quit on me so I'm kinda done... I didn't have anything important to say anyway. Alright, QTTA!
1. Are Austin and his dad going to fight again this year?
2. Austin hasn't had nightmares in a while...are they gone for good?
3. How will everyone react to Austin and Ally's relationship?
4. Will their relationship last?
Yup...I don't have many. But I really liked this chapter. I think their texts are cute :) XD OKAY! So, if you liked this chapter, put WISHLIST in a review. If you thought it was okay, put COUPLE in a review. and if you hated it, put CHRISTMAS EVE in a review! Thanks for reading and please review! I love you more than I love my mom's friend's new foreign exchange student! (She's like the sweetest person ever)
