So new chapter pretty quick I figure post a lot now to make up for my inevitibal minor absense during finals. Hope you enjoy this new chapter guys. Also I went to see Pitch perfect 2 with my friends this weekend and I promise you they were the only boys there and that there were way too many 10 year old girls there that understood way too many references. It was okay. Wasn't amazing but it was okay my friens made it fun.
I sped down the highway trying to remember the address of this guys house. Nudge told us that his apartment the school gave him was about a half-hour away.
A half-hour.
I pressed my foot down on the gas, my truck roaring down the street.
"Slow down Nascar, getting stopped by the police isn't going make us get there any faster."
I was about to spit out a sarcastic comment when Iggy's phone rang.
He looked down, dropped his head and muttered "Crap," under his breath.
I tried to peer at his screen without crashing into a tree. "What? Who is it?"
He looked up and showed me the screen. "Ari."
Ari. "Crap."
He nodded.
"Don't answer it."
He snorted and rolled his eyes to me "Great so we'll just ignore him. Then he'll think we all ran away together to elope." Then more quietly, "He already thinks you two are doing it."
I swerved the truck sharply and Iggy smashed into the side window.
"Hey-!"
"Really?" I cut him off. "Right now, do you really think that this is an appropriate time to be arguing about that. And what are you going to say to him if you do answer the phone? 'Hey, your little sister is about to be possibly drugged and taken advantage of. What's for dinner?'"
I was still so pissed that he had let her walk out the door. The asshole was right there. We could have grabbed Max and taken care of Dylan, the end. But no now we were on a goose chase searching for the asshole.
"Try Max again."
Iggy sighed frustrated "I've called like 30 times. She's not gonna-"
"Well try again!"
He was quiet for a minute before his phone pierced the silence again. Then he swiped the screen and put the phone to his ear.
"Ari, don't freak out okay?"
My head shot up and I shook it quickly.
He ignored me. "Max is at this party, with this asshole and we're going to get her now-"
Iggy stopped and I heard Ari's voice over the phone. "No, no Ari we'll get her. He just has a bad reputation that's all."
Oh my god. Iggy you moron, now he's gonna freak out.
Sure enough the next second Iggy glanced at me nervous from Ari's response. "Um, it's nothing really. We just ah- wanna go get her." Silence. "So we'll be home soon, say thanks to Mrs. Ride for watching the kids for us and we'll see you guys as soon as we grab the girls." Ari's quiet voice on the phone. "Where is the party? Um-" he looked at me for help and I shrugged. "Nowhere. I mean at this kids apartment and we're almost there anyway so there's no need-"
He sighed and nodded. "Dylan Fagottinni. Look we'll call you back as soon as we find them and are on our way." He pressed the red button on his phone and threw it to the dashboard.
"Shit. You don't think he can figure out where this place is with just a name. Do you?"
I shrugged. "Stuff like that is usually restricted." I looked at him. "So, preparing for the worst here, have you actually ever seen Max drunk?"
Iggy shook his head. "Not really. We tried some beer once when we were younger, but Max hated it . Don't think she'll go near it given the choice."
"Okay, so either she figures out what he's doing, kicks his ass, storms out and will be waiting for us on the corner,"
"That would be helpful, yes"
"Or, he slips something in her drink without her knowing and we'll be dealing with an asshole and a drugged Max."
Iggy winced "Not exactly the favorable option of the two I've got to say. Wait, here it is, turn here."
I spun the wheel sharply and skidded to a stop right on the curb, jumping out.
I called over to him "I'll find Dylan. You try and help Gazzy find Max. If you find her, call me, and take her home."
He nodded and called back, "Same. If you find her, call us and go. We need to make sure Max is alright first. We can deal with this asshole tomorrow if need be."
"Find Max. Go. Got it."
I ran into the house pushing through the groups of wasted kids grinding on each other and one's seeing how many shots they could down before they inevitably got sick. I caught a glimpse of the girl Ash from our apartment a few weeks ago.
"um, Ash?"
She didn't seem to hear me. Of all the kids drinking or getting violently sick, she didn't seem to be doing either. She was on the couch nursing a beer and a box of cookies watching t.v. No wonder Max liked her so much. As happy as I was to see her, I still wish it were Max lounging on that couch.
"Ash!"
I stepped in front of her and she looked confused for a moment, like she couldn't place where she had seen me. Then her eyes cleared up and she shot me a smile.
"Hey Fang right?"
"Yeah. Fang. Look, Ash have you seen Max?"
She nodded and pointed to the stairs. "She went up only like 10 minutes ago. And hey I didn't know she drank."
My heart froze in my chest for a millisecond then shot into overdrive. "What do you mean? She doesn't. Ash did Max seem drunk to you?"
She gave me a weird look. "Well, yeah. And don't take this the wrong way but shouldn't you be up there with her? She said she was going to the bedro-"
"What bedroom? Ash, where?"
"Upstairs. Jeez what's the matter? Are you okay?"
"Not really, but thank you Ash, God I owe you million."
I didn't bother to wait for her to respond but instead shoved through the crowd once more to get the stairs that she had directed me to. Thank you Ash.
In a panic I flew up the stairs and started throwing doors open.
"Max?" I called as looked into the rooms. And may I just say that I am at least partially scarred and Max fucking owes me for the things that I saw. But right now I just had to find her and pray that I wasn't too late.
"Max?" I opened another door to another room with another boy holding down another girl.
"What the hell? Get out asshole!"
I rolled my eyes and was about to close the door and move on when I noticed a dark dress thrown over the chair and high tops under them. Max's hightops.
"Max!" I ran to the bed and threw the boy to the ground. There was Dylan, fucking naked except for his boxers, now on the ground, and Max still lying across the bed in only her underwear. Holy crap. She looked at me with a dazed little smile on her face and I have never been so terrified of anything in my life. She looked like an angel, with her hair messed up, but when she sat up her eyes were glazed over.
I threw the blanket around her trying to ignore the instinct to do to her what that douchebag had been doing to her.
Dylan. "Hey what the fuck man. That's my girl you're covering. And we were in the middle of something and I wasn't done yet.
"Like hell you are." I swung a punch and felt his nose crack beneath my fist. He stuttered backward and slammed into the wall. I moved with him and threw my fist into his stomach and he collapsed in front of me coughing. I turned to ask Max if she would like to deliver the final blow to his nuts, but when I turned around Max was sitting on the bed with tears rolling down her cheeks. I stared at her and then went to move a little closer. "Max? Are you okay?"
"No! I'm not okay! You're hurting him! What's your problem?!" She screeched in a voice I have never heard come from her. Then she threw off the sheet and ran over to… comfort him?
"Are you okay, sweetie? Are you okay?"
He nodded to her lightly then with his eyes on me, starting making out with her, knotting his fists in her hair. She moaned a little and he moved to bite her neck.
He's dead.
I grabbed up Max and flung her to the bed, rationalizing that she probably wouldn't remember this anyway. She screeched again when I grabbed him and started beating his face in. I couldn't tell where the blood was coming from but at that point I really didn't care.
"Fang!" Iggy's face appeared in the doorway then slammed into me, pushing me away from Dyan.
"He's not worth. Man he's not worth it."
"She is." I spit out. He faltered for a second then threw me back on the bed. Max was getting up again, still crying to go to Dylan. I am so done with this crap.
Trying to keep my eyes off her chest, not that I was successful, I pinned her beneath me refusing to fucking watch another make out session between the two. I would actually kill him and Iggy wouldn't be able to stop me.
"Holy crap." Iggy breathed staring down at Max.
"Yeah, I know."
He almost laughed then looked around before spying her dress.
"Here put this on her. Gazzy drove Nudge home." I nodded then tried to slip on her dress without her getting away from me. Again not enormously successful.
"Wait, let me-" Iggy walked around and held her arms so I could put it on. Then he groaned.
"Doesn't exactly cover much." I nodded while scooping her up.
"Throw my jacket over her will you?"
Iggy did, then he walked past me grabbing a little orange bottle off Dylan's dresser.
"We were thinking he drugged her?"
I nodded "What does it say?"
He shrugged "I can't tell, too dark in here. Let's just get out of here and we'll read it in the car."
Dylan moaned as I kicked his face when we walked over him.
"One second." I turned and Iggy slammed his boot into Dylan's nuts so hard the guy starting screaming and choking on his own balls.
He growled down at him. "Try and rape someone now, dickhead."
Iggy and I moved into the hall, him pushing people out of our way and me still trying to hang on to the struggling Max in my arms.
"What. The. Fuck."
"Oh hey Ash. Great, you might want to call a doctor for him or something but do us a favor and wait a while." Iggy said
Ash glanced from the bottle in Iggy's hand, to Iggy, to me, to Max. Then inevitably to the blood covering me.
"Is- is he dead?'
Iggy laughed and shook his head. "Broken balls maybe, but no not dead."
She nodded slowly. "Good. Well it's too bad no one has seen from him all night. Guess we'll never know what happened when someone finds him tomorrow."
I smiled and Iggy walked past her. "Hey, thanks."
She just shook it off with a little wave. "The douchebag had it coming. I'd say you did the community a favor."
I nodded and when I got outside Iggy was already in the front seat of my truck, keys in ignition. I hesitated then carefully climbed into the back seat with Max in my lap. ai wrapped her up in a blanket I kept back here then buckled her in tight.
I leaned forward. "If you scratch my car, I swear I will haunt your ass."
"No! No we have to go back. He's hurt! YOU KILLED HIM!"
Iggy passed me the bottle. "Please tell me that this wears off soon."
I grabbed it from him and started reading. "It looks like it only lasts about an hour, or so."
Iggy whistled. "Wow an hour? That's-"
"Stop talking."
He wrinkled his nose and nodded. "Right, gross, sorry."
I thought out loud. "So she was there for at least 20 minutes before we got there."
"And I spent a good 15 minutes before I found you."
"And the half-hour drive?"
Iggy nodded thoughtfully. "Sounds like it's wear off by the time we get home."
I hesitated not wanting to know the answer. Then quietly, "How much do you think she'll remember?"
He paused. "I'm not sure. Right now I'm praying nothing at all."
"Max you asleep?"
"No, I'm up." After a good 25 minutes of screaming, Max was starting to sound like herself again. But she was quieter. She refused to look at Iggy or I and has just been sitting there gripping the blanket tightly around her.
"We're home." Iggy looked at her in the rearview mirror.
"I'll get her."
He nodded and started in the house.
"Max,"
"Don't." She paused for a second. "Thank you for getting me."
Then she pulled open the door and we heard screaming coming from our apartment.
"Ari," She stopped then ran to the door pulling it open with me behind her.
Ari was standing there with his finger in Iggy's face yelling.
"Stop." The entire room was quiet at the tone of Max's voice.
"I'm fine. I want to sleep. Ari, I'll talk to you in the morning." Her voice was final and she started up the stairs.
"Like hell-!"
Iggy grabbed him. "I'll tell you everything. Let her sleep and come into my room. We'll see her in the morning. Please."
Ari looked at me and walked over. "Thank you for getting her from that dick." He nodded like he was accepting something. "You're alright. Wish I could've helped you beat him blue."
"It was sort of more red than anything but sure." He smirked a little then followed Iggy.
I quietly started up the stairs, which turned into a sprint when I heard Max's shuddering cries coming from our room. I opened the door and she stared at me her bright brown eyes red and tear soaked. She didn't move to wipe the tears away or even stop crying, but instead just continued to stare at me.
I sat on the bed beside her and when I put my arm around her she collapsed into my side, soaking my shirt.
"I'm okay. Just freaked." she gasped in little breaths .
I scooped her up into my lap and she laid her head on my shoulder. Her arms going around my torso.
"Don't leave." She whispered into my shirt. "Please don't leave me."
"Shh, shh, I won't. I promise, I'm right here okay?"
She nodded lightly into my shoulder. "Good. Don't go."
"Where else would I go Max?"
"The couch."
I laughed a little and shook my head. "Not anymore, I'm right here." I moved, kicking the covers aside then dragged her to me. She rested her head on my curved arm, facing the other way, and I threw my other arm around her tightly. She smiled and slipped her hand in one of mine.
"Thank you."
