Chapter 29: If he isn't holding back, why should we?
(Inuyasha POV)
Inuyasha sat on an old brittled black pine tree branch. He rested his back on the trunk of the old tree while his legs lay out, extended in front of him. His tired eyes stared up at the rising sun. The day had broken through the dark night sky, presenting to the camp a new day. Although despite the skies promises of new beginnings Inuyasha found his mind lingering on the the event of yesterday.
The spanking was strange. Even stranger was that Sesshomaru seemed to be sexually aroused whenever he was around his brother. When Sesshomaru pushed him against that tree Inuyasha was suddenly reminded of the first time there had been a dynamic shift in their relationship. The first time he'd ever seen Sesshomaru out of character was that day on the cliff. Now thinking back on it, it probably was not Sesshomaru at all. It probably was his yokai. Lately there were hidden meanings in his brother's words, unspoken truths in his eyes.
But then again, that day he let me fall to my death.
Was all of this truly circumstantial? For 200 years his brother has humiliated and Abandoned him. Now suddenly, the same year he would be experiencing his 'first heat' for mating season, his brother suddenly cared about him? Inuyasha ferociously shook his head. Throwing the thoughts right out of his mind. People didn't do that. They didn't mate with their brothers and people don't mate men with men. So there couldn't be any correlation.
But what if?
What if Sesshomaru had no intention of mating with him but of mating him with someone else. After all he and Sesshomaru were both alpha's it would be weird if he mated with his brother. However if it was to marry someone else...Inuyasha remembered Kagome mentioning how arranged marriages weren't so uncommon in 'feudal japan.' He wasn't sure what that meant since he'd never even considered the idea of marriage but he assumed it would mean a marriage not of his own choosing.
Inuyasha looked around the camp. Sesshomaru had still not returned since their earlier conversation. However one of Sesshomaru's henchman walked out of his tent.
Inuyasha watched him like a hawk. Being sure to keep a very keen eyes on every single movement. He didn't trust Sesshomaru enough to trust the people he identified with. The demon took a step, a step to close for Inuyasha's comfort towards his pack's tent.
Inuyasha swooped down, landing just in front of the demon. Stopping him in his Tracks before he made a deadly mistake. "I'm sure whatever you're looking for ain't over here." The demon looked startled. His pale eyes was wide, looking around with slight fear. The demon seemed so disoriented it was almost comical.
But, just as he was reeling back from his fear he let out a relieved sigh. "Oh dear! Inuyasha you almost gave me a heart attack." Inuyasha tilted his head to the side. The demon was relieved to see him. It was as though his daunting presence meant nothing to him. Inuyasha stepped closer letting his dominating presence loom over him.
"You sound relieved? Do you not know who I am?" The demon looked at him for a moment before he chuckled. He took a step back and kneeled before the pile of gathered firewood.
"Why yes, I do. You are the son of the Lord Inutaisho, Inuyasha. You are about 250 years old. Your brother is the current Lord of the West, Lord Sesshomaru. You travel with a pack of humans; kagome- a Miko, miroku- a monk, sango- a demon slayer and her demon cat kirara, and last but not least the only demon in your pack. The little kit, shippo...I can go on if you like?" Inuyasha took a step back. He was feeling slightly disturbed by the amount of information the demon had on him.
"How do you know that?" He questioned while reaching down to grab a fist full of the demon's white haori. He was unperturbed, instead he simply looked down at Inuyasha's hand. He smiled a little before he returned his soft gaze to Inuyasha. This threw him back. It was such a gentle look. He almost let the demon go but he wasn't going to be fooled so easily. He shook the blonde once again before he finally got the creature to speak.
"So much like your father. All that rage and no where to put it." The demon seemed to reminisce about a time Inuyasha had little knowledge of. Father? It was such an empty word to Inuyasha at this point in his life. Still he felt something stir deep in his blood. It was like a strong sense of obligation, a thirst to know more about what he had meant by that statement. A need to know more about his supposed 'father'.
"You know you are asking all the wrong questions." Inuyasha paused for a moment. His eyes quickly scanned the demon, searching for any familiarity he may have missed.
"Who are You?" He seemed less threatening when he spoke. His words were hard yet inquisitive. His golden eyes focused and filled with innocent curiosity. He couldn't help it. Whenever the topic of his fathered came up his interest would easily be peaked.
"Much better, my young prince...My name is Forte. The castle's healer. I come from a land farther West. I am from a line of demons whose abilities are aligned with nature. We follow the laws of Nile, protecting the river from invader. Every few 100 years the Nile law calls for a new set of leaders to be born. Twins, who share one body and one mind to lead my people and protect the Nile. At the current moment that would be my sister Katsumi and I." Inuyasha hadn't expected that. The demon was so honest, so open about who he was. If anything he was too honest.
"If you're suppose to be out west protecting the Nile or whatever, why are you here?" The demon, Forte, looked down. His hands clasped over Inuyasha's.
"Alas, all my people are dead. I do not even think Hapi even exist anymore. In short no purpose for me to be there." Inuyasha eyebrows furrowed together as Forte somberly removed Inuyasha hands from his clothes. "It's just me and my sister now."
" Who the hell is happy and how convenient, only you and your sister lived?" he speculated. This was all to elaborate and Forte was too well spoken. He hardly seemed affected by the story he was telling. So of course Inuyasha didn't believe him, right?
"Well HAPI is the god of the Nile. As for your second question, we share a body so naturally if I live she will too." He said easily. And right after like the changing of seasons Inuyasha watched as the pale, blue-eyed winter styled man transform into the warm summer beauty of a pink haired girl with bright big amber colored eyes.
"And vice versa." Katsumi finished. If possible the male's voice got deeper in a more feminine way. He went from a fragile timid boy to a sexy seductive woman. It was...amazing.
Inuyasha took a step back, his eyes wide with confusion. He shook his head a little, Testing to see if he had just imagined it. After he took a real good look. To his trained eyes it was as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened. "How…?"
"Like my brother said...we share a body." so many questions. "My brother is grounding. He finds his strength in intelligence, medical science, and invention. I, on the other hand, am bound by less material ideas. I am the living embodiment of our people's spiritual connection to the other world. That is the reasoning for are conjoined state. To represent these two balances; The material and spiritual aspects of the world. " Inuyasha watched her speak for a moment before he shook his head.
"You're a demon, how can you have any spiritual connection to the other world?" Inuyasha asked. None of this made sense. Spiritual energy were used by human priest/priestess. Demonic energy was were used by demons. Now this demoness stood here and says she has a spiritual connection to the other world.
"You seem to have hard time understanding my young prince-"
"it's Inuyasha. I ain't nobody's Prince." Inuyasha quickly corrected. Katsumi smiled softly before she nodded.
"Yes...Inuyasha. You ever heard of the shikon no tama?" Inuyasha scoffed obnoxiously. "Hmmmm, well just like that jewel my people have managed to merge our demonic and spiritual abilities together. Technically speaking that is. In all honesty my people do not view our powers as black and white as demonic or spiritual. It is simply the gifts, given to us by the god Hapi." She sounded so much like a priest. It was so baffling to Inuyasha to hear her speak this way. Religion? Faith? Things Inuyasha had never known existed in the demon world. After All a cold and cruel beast didn't have faith or religion. Those words were too... human.
Inuyasha's hand rose up to scratch the back of his ear. This was all too strange. It was so unlike the world Inuyasha was use too. A demon that sounded like a priest/priestess? Now that was a story to tell. " This doesn't make any sense. demons don't have spiritual energy." Inuyasha remained stubborn, earning a giggle from the demoness.
"I see you also have the signature shiro Inu-daiyoukai stubbornness." She mused before she took a seat by the dead campfire and reignited the flames. " Inuyasha you have grown up listening to humans who spent their lives villainizing demons. Of course they would not view their powers as anything similar to ours."
Inuyasha watched the demoness speak, her words sounding exactly like something humans would do. Still he was too stuck in his ways to believe it. "Well demons are different. Something about them is just filled with darkness and malice" He responded. Katsumi glanced in him and smiled. She seemed so amused by the topic it was sort of frustrating but at the same time it made it easier to talk to her.
"Well Inuyasha you're living proof that demons and humans are not so different after all. Tell me, if the world was so black and white what could explain your existence. Demons are filled with darkness and malice? Why must darkness represent evil. Is it not during a time of darkness can someone truly enjoy light? Like at night when the white luminescent moon looms of over us and we can stare up at the beautiful crystalline sky?" She asked. Inuyasha didn't have an answer. He just stared at her speak.
"The only true difference between humans and demons are the ideas that divide us." She finished by now her attention was focused on tending the fire. She seemed so calm and collected, like she hadn't just shook Inuyasha's whole existence. He'd never spoken with anyone so well spoken. For every single one of Inuyasha's questions she had a collected and educated response that made a million times more sense than the ones he'd grown up learning.
"You're the only one who thinks like this. Other demons don't see it that way." He stated. However he hopes she would explain. He hoped she have an educated reason for why things were the way they were. Maybe even convince him he was wrong like she just had.
"It is true. This is not the most popular belief. Most demons see themselves on higher levels from humans. Superiority and inferiority were always prominent problems within the two species. However, I would not limit the belief to only myself. You have spent majority of your life fighting demons of course you would not find demons who have more diverse viewpoints. After all those demons would not pointlessly try to fight you. Most demons who share my views try and stay away from humans, allowing them to live out their lives unaffected by demons influence as natural law suggest." She said. There was disappointment in her voice. A longing for change. Inuyasha could tell and he felt it too.
"If avoiding humans is natural law, what am I? Unnatural?" He questioned. For some reason within the short spam of their conversation she's become somewhat of a guide for Inuyasha. He began to believe she could possibly have all the answers to all his problems. It was not that he never knew someone wise. It was the fact that he had never met someone so empathetic and compassionate towards all life.
The Oracle looked at him for a moment before she stood. She took paced steps towards him, only stopping when she was directly in front of him. "Do you want the truth Inuyasha?" Inuyasha was afraid to answer. So instead he gave her hesitant nodded. Last thing he wanted was to be rejected by a someone he's so recently began to admire. "You are a miracle. You are the living embodiment of love. You were created from love, passion, and honesty. Nothing like that could ever be unnatural. After all when we love, when we are passionate, and when we are honest is when we are our most truest and natural selves. If you were speaking to my brother he would say you are the living embodiment of an evolutionary change. A demon who is also human and human who is also a demon. The perfect combination of darkness and light. There absolutely nothing unnatural about that. The world is built on balance, you were a necessity in order to revolutionize our two races." Inuyasha released a breath he didn't even know he had been holding. It was such a relief but at the same time it was the nicest thing anyone have said to him.
"Inuyasha." Inuyasha looked up and stared at his eldest brother who had just emerged into the clearing. He took a moment to look around and stared at the empty clearing before he eventually settled his gaze on his brother. His eyes were hard and authoritative. Nothing Inuyasha was not use to.
"Sesshomaru." Inuyasha responded. He looked at his brother, his mind wandering back to earlier. He mentally cursed. After finally forgetting here he was back on square one. The prick. He cursed to himself.
"Why is everyone still asleep?" Inuyasha smiled a little to himself before he took a step forward and looked around. He could tell his brother was about to say something but he ignored it and spoke up.
"That's a good question. Well you better wake them up if you don't want to be behind schedule. In the meantime. I'll just go take a nice…" He looked around before his eyes landed on Katsumi. "...Dip in the cold river water with her. You should prepare a meal for the pack. They'll be starving after such a long night." He didn't wait for his brother to respond. Instead he took a firm hold of Katsumi's hand and dragged her away from the camp. He didn't go too far. Being sure to stay within earshot just incase his pack needed him. He didn't trust Sesshomaru.
When he was finally away he turned and looked at Katsumi. Her face was painted red and seemed a bit overwhelmed. "Did you really just speak to Lord Sesshomaru that way?" She asked before her hand covered her mouth and she busted into a fit of laughter. "Oh my, I must say you never cease to amuse me." She chuckled slightly. Inuyasha shrugged casually before he turned and walked towards the river. He seemed calm but on the inside he was rushing with exhilaration. The look on Sesshomaru's face was always so...priceless. whenever he said something that was even just a bit off from what Sesshomaru was expecting, his brother Seem completely unraveled.
He smiled a little to himself as he looked at the river's water. It felt so good teasing Sesshomaru like that. Still he felt as though he could take it a step farther. These things were simple annoyances his brother could get over. He needed to do more, anything. There was no way he would make things so easy for his brother.
"You must like me." Inuyasha's attention was pulled from his mind to the demoness behind him. He turned a little to look at her. While resting his hands on his waist, he tilted his head to the side giving the Oracle an inquisitive look. "I mean I would have assumed you would have left me with the lord."
Inuyasha stared for a moment longer before he shrugged. "Well I still have some questions for you." He said simply. Katsumi stared at him for a moment before she nodded with a soft smile.
"Like?..." He paused for a moment, racking his brain before he thought of his earlier questions about his brother. They were a bit personal and it was against his usual nature to talk about it with a woman he's just met. However something about her was so familiar and that familiarity was practically forcing him to open up to her.
"Why does Sesshomaru so valiantly want me by his side all of a sudden?" The amusement that was in her eyes from earlier was suddenly gone. She broke eye contact. This question was more difficult for her to answer. She looked down just as she took a step closer to Inuyasha.
"You carry with you a lot of pain, most of which were caused by lord Sesshomaru. It must be so hard to see his intentions as anything but impure. I can understand that. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about lord Sesshomaru's reasoning however I do know a thing or two about the white dog demon's physiology..." she waited for Inuyasha's response. Unsure on if he was interested enough to listen. He was. He gave her a slow nodded, prompting her to continue.
"Dog demons are not like most other species. For you guys your physical, psychological, and Yokai existence is put under extreme strain when you guys are seperated for too long.
"I know that is hard to understand but let me explain. A scientist, before my time, did A study on dog demon relations. She took a dog demon and isolated him from his family and other dog demons for 500 years. Within 300 of those years he began experiencing psychotic breaks, hallucinations, accompanied by suicidal tendencies.
" Within another hundred his body physically began to deteriorate. I mean weakness, Experiencing Nausea and vomiting, Miotic or constricted pupils, Light sensitivity, Lower than normal body temperature, respiration failure, heart failure, and Cyanotic hands, feet, lips, etc. The doctor described the sight as horrific.
"Within the next hundred he was dead. We still do not know why but the dog demon race cannot survive on their own. The scientist requested more time to research this phenomenon but was declined when The dog demon race began to fall into extinction. In conclusion, the need for dog demon contact is essential for their existence, for your existence." Inuyasha had to hold back his wincing when she described the effects.
"Sesshomaru seemed fine not being with me for the last 200+ years." Inuyasha interjected. Katsumi seemed to take that in before she nodded.
"You mean in the last 200+ years Lord Sesshomaru had not made any contact with you whatsoever?" She smiled a little already knowing the answer. "I'm sure there had been times you had crossed paths with Sesshomaru when you had least expect it. In your mind it must seemed like an unfortunate coincidence but what if he had went to you. I mean, had you not found it off that the demon who supposedly 'hated' you appeared around you so much? Or even stranger, never killed you despite all of his threats? None of this excuses his action but it does bring forth an important question; had all those instances truly been an coincidence?" katsumi paused for a moment, allowing the question to linger in the air.
"I think not. I believe all those instances were Sesshomaru's desires to be with you. The times when he could not ignore his blood calling to him. When the Lord would arrive he would be angry. Angry he had let his instincts get the better of him. So as a result your many violent disputes. It was his way of covering up his need for you. Perhaps when you fell down that cliff those instincts to protect you, to be with you intensified so much so he could not ignore them any longer. His need to have you by his side tripled simply from the thought of losing you and forever being alone."
" Do you really believe that?" She looked at Inuyasha for a moment before she nodded.
"Yes...but don't think for a second that mean you should stop giving him hell. What he did was wrong and you have every right to be angry with him." Inuyasha looked down trying to contemplate her words before responding.
"I know." He felt so young. Looking at her wise eyes reminded him of the whole world he had never gotten to learn. It was almost sad but he shook the thoughts away.
"Just don't be mad at the Lord for too long. After all, you two are the last living dog demons. you need each other." The demoness eyes were so earnest. She was such a gentle person. He would be lying if he said he wasn't taken by her. He nodded a little in response before the half bread turned around and began to take off his haori.
"Inuyasha!" He jumped to attention at the scolding tone and looked at Katsumi. She had her hands on her waist as she glared at Inuyasha. "I am a lady you cannot just change in front of me." She reminded.
"Oh...?" He said. He was still confused by the little arrangement her and her brother had. He pulled his haori back on prepared to separate from the demoness when the wind shift. Inuyasha paused looking up to the sky.
What's that? He wondered. An ominous air began to surround the area just as a high pitch scream echoed from the camp all the way to Inuyasha and Katsumi. Inuyasha's head snapped in the direction of the scream. He didn't hesitate before running into danger. By now it was almost second nature.
That scream?
Yes it was that human girl. The one Sesshomaru insist on keeping...by his side.
Inuyasha reacted before he could properly process the situation. He leapt high into the air and blindly returned to the clearing he'd left his pack.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome screamed. Her dark brown hair flying against the wind as she turned her fearful gaze to the halfbreed. The look was a plea before she returned her attention to a hordes of demons. The numbers were too much as they always were.
It was him!
Inuyasha quickly searched the clearing for the scent of the filthy spider hanyou but quickly came up short. He wasn't here that much was obvious. So then why was all these demons attacking them?
He didn't give his mind enough time to answer the question. He tore into the battle. Savagely ending the weaker demons with a mighty swing of his tetsaiga and a simple word,
"Windscar!"
The bright light blinded the fighting demons and destroyed the demons that had been attacking Inuyasha's pack. However, that was not enough. The demons had surrounded them flanking their sides.
"Inuyasha," Sesshomaru captured Inuyasha's attention. He took his place at Inuyasha's side. "We cannot destroy all of them...not without casualties. Create an opening and we can escape, brother." Inuyasha opened his lips to protest but then he took a look around.
Now is not the time.
His yokai reminded him. Now was the moment to focus on survival. The one thing Inuyasha was good at.
So Sesshomaru wants me to create an opening? Okay I will give him an opening.
With a deep breath inuyasha lunges forward at the epicenter of the battle. His stance wide and eyes focused he gathers all his strength and once again summoned his great power. "Windscar!"
The demons were torn to shreds and immediately after the group began to to slash through the ones that remained in their way. It was tiring but the demons were relentless. There wasn't time to rest not when they're life was in danger.
Inuyasha saw blur as he cut down his enemies. The situation barely registering in his blood thirsty mind. His heart thumped in His ears, beating adrenaline through His veins. His sword was an extension of his arms and swung mercilessly through all his enemies creating a path for his pack to follow.
He could hear their weapons smashing through bones and the squishing sound of blood spurting out of large gashes and open wounds.
"Inuyasha!" kagome called out grabbing Inuyasha's attention. He turned and instinctively she jumped into his arms. He swooped her up into his arms easily and lunged himself forward. His jump was powerful lifting him up out of the trees. Kagome's arms wrapped tightly around his neck as she turned to ensure their pack was close behind. A quiet sigh from her was the only sign Inuyasha received that they were okay.
There were no demons up ahead. For now they were safe. It didn't even cross Inuyasha's mind whether his brother had made it. However there was no doubt he did. Demons like Sesshomaru were not easily killed. Inuyasha continued moving toward until he finally landed as far away from the attack as possible.
He set kagome down on her two feet then turned to look at the rest of his pack; Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and Kirara who landed behind them.
"Someone might want to explain to me what the hell happened?" Inuyasha question immediate. He looked at his pack who were still trying to catch their breath. "No by all mean take your sweet time."
"Excuse me, Inuyasha, but not all of us have the enhanced endurance you do." miroku retorted.
"Feh." Inuyasha rolled his eyes and crossed his arms saltily. It was so aggravating dealing with them sometimes but by now he'd learned to patiently wait. No matter how time consuming they were.
"It was Naraku." Kagome spoke up first. She was making herself useful, immediately after landing she'd pulled out a first aid kit and began to the patch up any injuries from the battle. "I don't know what he wanted but I know it was him."
Well go figure. Why would he send demons after us? Was it for the Shikon jewel? Something was telling Inuyasha it was something else. He could feel it in his gut.
"He was here for me." The packed turned around was greeted by Gaara. His clothing tattered. His hair a hot flaming mess, but still he radiated like some kind of god.
Inuyasha scoffed, turning his full attention on Gaara. "Well, Why am I not surprised?" Gaara sent Inuyasha a deadly glare. His green eyes daring to challenge the halfbreed. Inuyasha accepted the challenge sending Gaara an equally daunting glance.
"Sesshomaru I suggest you control that pup of a brother of your before I do." Inuyasha felt a growl regurgitate from his throat. His hands clenched in a fist as he took a daring step closer.
"I would like to see you fucking try." Inuyasha baited. He wanted Gaara to try and attack him. He was ready, no he was more than ready. He didn't like the demon. Every single thing about him made his blood boil. Even now he stood all high and mighty as though he didn't just get his ass handed to him by a bunch of D-graded demons.
"Now both of you," a large and firm hand took a hold on Inuyasha's shoulder, cautiously holding him back. "knock it off. We just got attacked by naraku's demons which means we can not be in discordance." Inuyasha turned and looked at his brother. What annoyed him was how easy it was for sesshomaru to calm him down. What made it worse was that the very sight of Sesshomaru made him hold his breath for a moment. Just like Gaara his brother's hair draped around his body in a messy disarray catching his brother's very alluring animalistic nature.
Sesshomaru walked around Inuyasha, taking a neutral spot between him and the red head. His hand released his brother's shoulder, looking both him and Gaara over. "Your mediating this situation like most of the discordance doesn't come from me and you."
"Inuyasha now is not the time." Sesshomaru quickly hushed his younger brother but silence was never Inuyasha's strongest suit. Neither was obedience.
"Rightttt! Of course it's not the right time because little Sesshomaru has a hard time dealing with conflict." Another hard glare was sent Inuyasha's way. This time however the owner was able to incite something other than anger from Inuyasha. This time the half breed felt amused.
"Inuyasha…?" he heard his pack whisper from the behind him but it was too late. He was already fired up. He couldn't back down now.
"No, I'm tired of this shit. This let's play nice bullshit." He turned his attention to Sesshomaru again. "Your not nice Sesshomaru." He was getting under his skin he could tell. What he didn't anticipate was the hand that wrapped around Inuyasha's neck. It was strong and pulled the half breed close to his brother and off the ground.
"Inuyasha!" His pack panicked.
"Put Inuyasha down, lord Sesshomaru." In the seconds it took Sesshomaru to take a deadly hold of Inuyasha's neck, weapons from both sides were already being drawn. Their fragile alliance so easily shaken with no one clear minded enough to mediate the situation.
"Inuyasha." The growl that escaped his brother's lips pulled his attention away from his pack and he focused in on his brother. Sesshomaru's eyes were like hot melted gold in his irises as he looked menacingly at his brother. Sesshomaru's lips twitched slightly to show his white canine fang. It was intimidating but most problematic it was alluring. That feeling from earlier resurfaced. The feeling he got when his brother laid the fury of Hades on his ass. That unrestrained attraction.
What the fuck? His mind was fucked up for this and he knew with no doubt in his mind that if Sesshomaru knew of this he would shun him. Just look at how easy it was to rile his brother up. A little much deserved teasing and Sesshomaru's hands were already wrapped around his tan neck.
He was feeling hot again. The memory of his brother wrapping this same hand around his arousal haunted his mind. "Get your fucking hands off of me." He cursed to regain some pride. Some dignity in such an embarrassing situation. He was aroused by his brother hurting him... again.
"I ask you to behave yourself Inuyasha. Do not make me ask twice." His hands released Inuyasha's neck and dropped him to the ground. Luckily with Inuyasha's natural agility he easily landed on his feet. Inuyasha looked up at his brother but by this time Sesshomaru's back was to him as he returned to Gaara's side. One of the demons who worked for Sesshomaru cautiously approached before he began to speak to him.
Inuyasha couldn't hear them. All he heard was a sharp ringing in his ear. Even when his pack came tugging at his side's all he saw was their mouths moving and their worried expression. It was actually quite comedic; for once to not hear their voice. It started with a high pitch ringing before it turned into a suffocating feeling. It was like he was drowning in the middle of the ocean. The water being his emotions, the oxygen he craved was his need to be heard.
"Fuck…" He cursed under his breath, silencing his pack. They looked up at him with wide eyes. Awaiting his response. All they received was a shove as he pushed passed them and began to make his way over to Sesshomaru.
It started with a simple push. It wasn't normally his style but he wasn't exactly thinking properly when he shoved his brother. He just wanted to get him mad. He wanted to be heard and not blown off because it was more convenient for his brother. Sesshomaru clearly was thrown off by his attack he stumbled back slightly before he looked at Inuyasha. His perplexed expression, however did not last long. Confusion was quickly replaced with anger, restrained anger. Inuyasha didn't care. He was pissed. Not once, not twice, but three times his brother humiliated him. Three fucking times. Inuyasha's fist connected with Sesshomaru's cheek.
That was almost too easy. He thought before his brother looked at him. It was a look that could kill, from the eyes of a murderer. No doubt if Inuyasha was anyone else he would shit his pants. But he wasn't anyone else. He was Inuyasha and Inuyasha didn't get pushed around like someone's bitch.
"Who the Fuck do you think I am?" it was a rhetorical question that was answered with silence. Inuyasha threw another punch this time not connecting. His brother took a hold of his wrist pulling him off balance. "I'm not your little bitch, Sesshomaru. You can't just order me around and think I'll do whatever the Fuck you say." Sesshomaru released Inuyasha's wrist throwing the half breed off balance again.
He's making me seem like some kind of fool.
No keep doing that. Get him angry. Inuyasha didn't need anymore pushing. Especially when that was already his plan. He turned around facing his brother. In an instant his set was up and he throwing blows. For the most part he missed and Sesshomaru just dodged but when he switched it up and added in a side kick he landed a very painful hit. One he was no doubt proud of.
He didn't see when Sesshomaru got up. All he felt was a yank of his hair and he was flying through the air. His back hit a few branches as he disappeared from the pathway into the forest. He didn't land against a tree like he expected. No, this time he felt his brother's hand snake around his neck and slammed his body to the ground. The impact was almost as painful as Kagome's sits. Not that it matter. He didn't properly register the pain, he wasn't given the opportunity to before his brother was on top of him choking the life from his body.
"I asked you to behave yourself. This is not behaving yourself, Inuyasha! You're going to make me angry." Sesshomaru warned. Inuyasha tried but his airways was too restricted. Instead he settle on the only thing that he could handle. Something that maybe was a better. A solid blow to his brother's pride. He leaned forward close to Sesshomaru's face, because he didn't have enough strength for distance, and he spat.
It was probably the worst thing Inuyasha had ever done to Sesshomaru but to Inuyasha it was the best. "Fuck you." He emphasized the word 'you' so his brother could feel the full extent of his actions. He wanted to let his brother know that he was the only person who would receive that kind of treatment.
Sesshomaru didn't say a thing. He reacted solely by dipping his head low so Inuyasha couldn't see his reaction. All he saw was a head of pure white hair. It left Sesshomaru's response to Inuyasha's imagination.
It was silent, deadly silent. Sesshomaru had barely moved and his grip had not loosened up. Silence usually meant one thing when it came to his brother: pain. In this case it could just as equally mean death.
He's going to kill me.
Are you scared now?
No. He returned his focus to Sesshomaru just in time to see the demon look up. His face was wet with saliva. His eyes were red with anger. His lips stretched revealing a mouth full of sharp and fatal canine teeth. He snarled. A loud snarl that vibrated through his body to Inuyasha's spine.
Beautiful. Inuyasha bit his bottom lip. Watching his big brother on top of him. The demon leaned close preparing to take a life ending bite out of Inuyasha's neck.
In this moment Inuyasha was powerless against his brother. His hand pinned down by Sesshomaru's knees and his brother's choke holding him against the ground. Sesshomaru was most likely going to the kill him here. There was no doubt about that. He could tell. That restrained anger was now gone. The caring brother was nowhere to found in those demonic eyes. He'd pushed Sesshomaru past the breaking point. Whatever reconciliation he had in mind was now gone and erased from his mind.
If he isn't holding back. Why should we? If we're to die here. Why hold back?
Inuyasha felt Sesshomaru's cool sharp teeth touch Inuyasha's warm skin. Saliva was dripped from his canines to his brother's neck as his teeth grazed down into a position that would most easily rip out his throat. Inuyasha swallowed and felt his Adam Apple press against his brother's teeth.
Your right. His mind whispered.
"Look at me before you do it." Sesshomaru paused. His red eyes glancing up at Inuyasha. Even in his brother's feral state he still managed to look divine. Sesshomaru was from a whole other world. With beauty that was incomparable, it wasn't fair to everyone else.
Lord Sesshomaru, Lord of the West was blessed in every aspect of life. Given everything he could possibly desire. A literal breathing embodiment of perfection. Every single thing Inuyasha had ever wanted to be.
Sesshomaru moved up so that his face was directly parallel to his brother's. His beastly eyes scanned Inuyasha's features. Maybe he was trying to recognize him, Inuyasha didn't know and perhaps it was better if he didn't. None of it matter for what he was about to do.
He leaned forward and naturally Sesshomaru came closer. He must've sensed the longing to be closer because typically his brother normally kept his distance but not this time. This time they were close enough to touch noses.
Do it. Inuyasha didn't take an extra moment to think about it. His body reacted without his mind. It took control and moved him into the kiss, onto Sesshomaru's lips. He should have been thinking about how disgusted his brother would be. Of how dead he was after but no. The moment his lips touched Sesshomaru's soft succulent lips any reservations were gone. His lips were sweeter than Inuyasha could have ever imagined. More hypnotically pleasing.
Inuyasha didn't know much about his brother's private life but at this moment he envied any one who had been granted permission to kiss him. His hands moved around his brother's neck pulling him closer. He didn't even notice when Sesshomaru had released him from his hold. What he did notice was his brother's hand sliding up from his neck to his jaw. Sesshomaru took a hold of Inuyasha's head holding him in place as his tongue slid into his mouth. Inuyasha grew weak feeling his brother's tongue deep in the caverns of his mouth. His stomach fluttering every time he heard the soft sounds of their lips making contact.
Suddenly he felt Sesshomaru pull away, his thumb replacing his lips as he rubbed his bottom lip. "what the Fuck is wrong with me?" Inuyasha whispered. He opened his eyes. He didn't even realise when he closed them. He wasn't prepared to see Sesshomaru but he was no coward so he looked straight into his brothers golden hues.
The menacing demonic presence he had before was gone. Instead he had an angelic glow. If Inuyasha was crazy he might even say a halo. "It wasn't till I did that, that I noticed how much I wanted to do it."
"Why, Inuyasha? Why would you do that?" Sesshomaru pulled himself off of Inuyasha. Whatever high he was on during and after their kiss was now gone. Inuyasha sat and looked at Sesshomaru who seemed utterly disgusted.
What the fuck? He kissed me back. He thought before he shook his head. What the fuck was he thinking. If he didn't salvage this quickly that one mistake could ruin everything. He panicked. For the first time Inuyasha began to panic out of fear of being pushed away by his brother. Inuyasha cleared his throat before he stood up and dusted the dirt off of his clothes.
" Do what?" He said. He avoided Sesshomaru's eyes like they were a plague. They may have very well been the plague since they could kill him with one glance. "I'm gonna head back to the group. Let them know we're not killing each other or nothing." He spoke quickly. He had to get out of there. If not he would have to face his brother and explain what the hell he was thinking which quite frankly he didn't even know himself. So he tried to make a beeline exit but was caught by his arm. Sesshomaru's grip tightened around his bicep pulling him to a stop.
"Inuyasha…" He began. His voice was deep and steady. He spoke with caution like speaking to a child. " I will take this as your affections growing stronger for me little brother, however during this particular time you can not be so affectionate. Mating season is a very sensitive time period for demons it can cause a misunderstanding." Inuyasha couldn't stand the patronizing tone. He shrugged his arm trying to shove his brother's hand away but his grip was too tight. His efforts were useless. He was trapped like a butterfly, being forced to swallow down Sesshomaru's words. It was so hard to hear, it felt like a rejection.
A rejection for what? Inuyasha swallowed slowly before he shook his head, "Yeah whatever, I just didn't want you to kill me. Now let me go, will ya." Sesshomaru waited a moment before he released his arm. He seemed reluctant, not that inuyasha cared.
" So you kiss everyone who tries to kill you?" Inuyasha snapped around quickly and looked at Sesshomaru. His brother took a step back avoiding any potential collision.
" No, Sesshomaru. I fucking don't. Hop off my dick, will ya?" Sesshomaru raised a brow before he pierced his lips together. He seemed confused at first but then a realisation hit him. Inuyasha held his breath. The sight of Sesshomaru's golden eyes lighting up set his heart ablaze.
What is this? This was not the first time, nor the second, in fact he always randomly felt a sudden attraction to Sesshomaru, ever since he was young but lately its been happening a lot more frequently. " ...So you only kiss me?"
"Huh?" Inuyasha barely noticed his brother was speaking. His lips responded before his mind could properly process his brother's sentence. He felt stupid, he sounded stupid. He shook his head trying to recollect his thought before speaking again. " Can we go?" He said strategically changing the subject. Sesshomaru looked at Inuyasha for a moment before he hesitantly nodded. It was clear he wanted to continue the conversation but decided to let it go. Inuyasha sighed with relief when Sesshomaru began to walk ahead making his way back to their pack. Inuyasha didn't intend on speaking to Sesshomaru, instead he folded into himself. His mind was in turmoil. He was confused, angry, annoyed...and most frighteningly he felt this intense desire to jump Sesshomaru. To hold his hand or force his elder brother to give him a piggy back ride. Inuyasha shivered in discomfort. These thoughts were so disturbing to him. Never had he ever wanted to get close to someone before. Actually he distinctly remember wanting to get further away from people. Let alone for him to feel these desires for his brother. his cruel vindictive brother. Who he very much hated.
Inuyasha's eyes rose from the ground, up his brother's leg, to his long swaying white hair. The wind caressed it to the side as if to tease him. Sesshomaru's back was revealed and underneath his thin layer of clothes Inuyasha could see the muscles in his brother's back moved with every step he took. It had an animalistic grace. The way his brother's muscles tightened and twitched.
He is so very strong.
Yes. He was very strong. He never missed an opportunity to prove that during each and every single one of their battles. Most recently today when he flung his little brother into the woods and when he mercilessly strangled the life out of him- inuyasha shivered. Instinctively he closed his eyes as he let it run through him.
But...he can be so gentle.
Yes. he was gentle. Inuyasha's mind drifted. The sweet sensation of Sesshomaru's soft lips replayed in his mind. Inuyasha's body grew hot as he remembered his brother lying on top of him, rubbing his large body atop of Inuyasha's smaller but equally powerful frame. His hair was draped around them like a white angelic curtail that shielded the world from their sinful action.
He would make a great mate.
Yes. he would make a great mate-wait what!
Inuyasha walked face first into Sesshomaru's back. He took a step back just as his brother turned to look at him. "Inuyasha...?" He shook his head slightly as he tried to recollected his thoughts before looking at his brother. Sesshomaru's golden eyes stared down at him. He was concerned, a bit confused as well. But he didn't seemed overtly disturbed. Nor could Inuyasha find anything indicating that his brother was thinking about their earlier… situation.
Inuyasha cleared his throat before he took a step back. He didn't want to be close to his brother. Whenever he was he began to feel and think strangely, like he wasn't himself. It was as though his mind was being rewritten to view his brother in a different light. To see the great dog demon of the west as not his brother but his…
Mate. we want him as a mate. Inuyasha shook his head he didn't want Sesshomaru as anything. He barely wanted him as a brother. At least that was how he use to feel. The halfbreed shook his head as a weak attempt to focus. "I didn't realise you had stopped walking." Sesshomaru didn't say say anything. Before he could Inuyasha's pack was already surrounding him. Miroku and kagome worriedly checked to see if he was okay. Sango on the other hand took a defensive stance in front of him.
"Are you okay, Inuyasha?" kagome asked. She worriedly searched his whole body, checking for any injuries.
"I'm fine." He half-heartedly responded. His eyes never left his brother's. This whole time he was so busy trying to understand his attraction to his brother that he hadn't even noticed it until now.
He never said how he felt about the kiss...what did that mean? Why had Sesshomaru not said a word about it? At least before in Inuyasha avoided that situation. He didn't say he was disgusted? He didn't shun Inuyasha. All he did was create some excused over why Inuyasha kissed him. After his brother had pulled away he had looked disgusted but only for a moment and Inuyasha had no idea why he had made that face. Plus there was the fact that Sesshomaru had kissed him back. Yes, he had initiated the kiss but it was Sesshomaru who had slid his tongue into Inuyasha's mouth.
Inuyasha took a breath as the memory flashed through his mind. He shouldn't have been turned on by that but he was. Something was telling him so was Sesshomaru. When Sesshomaru had spoken to him the only thing he said was that they couldn't kiss during mating season. Not that they couldn't ki-...
"...during mating season a demon would go through what is known as a heat. At this moment, depending on the demons station he will either go hunting for a mate or his body will be preparing for the mating session." Sesshomaru's words echoed in Inuyasha's head, replaying in a loop. Rolling over in his mind before quietly settling down to a quiet whisper.
The kiss was because of mating season. It made sense why Sesshomaru wasn't so eager to shame him for his actions, it was probably also the reason his brother kissed him back. It all made sense, despite that it didn't sit right with him. How could some random season- or whatever the hell it was affect his whole perspective on his brother? Could all his feelings really be as simple as his body wanting to reproduce? How did that make sense? How could he know what he truly felt and what he truly wanted if this mating season was affecting all of his emotions? Did he even actually want to forgive Sesshomaru for all those years of abandonment? Did he actually want to travel with Sesshomaru or was all of this just because of matting season?
Did sesshomaru even really want to travel with me or was that just matting season too?
Inuyasha took a step back, tearing his eyes away from his brother. For some reason it hurt. It hurt to know that Sesshomaru's desires for him were all simply because of some random mating ritual. It hurt more then it was suppose to. Afterall Sesshomaru was his evil and cruel brother who he had hated his whole life. This random fact should not have been so painful. In fact it should have been relieving that all those horrendous desires were not him.
Still it hurt, the feeling of not being wanted.
Inuyasha looked down at the ground, his ears flattening against his head as he rethought all the events that had happened thus far. Something about all of this ending as soon as the season was over made his heart sink just a little bit.
We can't lose him if he's ours. Inuyasha inner yokai spoke in his mind. It didn't sound panicked. Instead it sounded hungry like it was craving something Inuyasha could not give it. If he was our mate he couldn't leave us.
A/N: Chapter 29 was stressful. I had a very interesting time with all the characters interactions. Playing with different ways they could possibly react to a situation and revealing or expressing why they reacted this way is quite interesting. Let me know how you feel about this story, it's progression, and this chapter. R&R
