Chapter twenty-nine: Too early
The next morning I was woken up by the sound of someone running around the dorm. I lifted my head and saw it was only six in the morning. Who was up at this unholy hour on a Saturday? I sat up and opened my curtains to see Lily running around while throwing al her stuff on her bed. Why was she putting all her clothes on her bed?
"Lily what are you doing?" I mumbled and she dropped one of her skirts.
"Did I wake you up? Oh so sorry Rain. Just go back to bed and I'll be more quiet," Lily said and I kept staring at her.
"You didn't answer my question. What are you doing?" I asked her again and she got a bit red. What was going on? Was she going to leave Hogwarts? Did something happen?
"Are you leaving? Did something happen back home?" I asked, thinking about her parents.
"Oh no, they're fine Rain. It's just this Hogsmeade date you know. Valentine's day and all," she said while she threw a jeans to the side.
I stared at her. Was she being serious? She was running around at six on a Saturday morning like there was no time left for a date? I knew I didn't get the whole girlie thing, but this was far beyond my understanding.
"I think I don't understand Lils."
She sighed and I knew she was slightly frustrated with my lack of enthusiasm when it came to dating and clothes. "It's Valentine's day," she repeated again. "The one day that's all about love. Where you want to look nice for your boyfriend. Surprise him a little and all. I thought you of all would find this Hogsmeade date the most important."
I snorted. She couldn't be serious. How could this pink mess day be one of my most important days? "I don't think I'm quite following you Lily."
"It's your first official Hogsmeade date with Sirius. That's quite special. I thought you wanted to surprise him by looking nice you know."
She was right. It was my first official Hogsmeade date with Sirius. I was looking forward to it, but was nervous at the same time. Sirius could be a romantic boyfriend, but there were moments where a troll would be more romantic. There was no telling whether what he had planned would be a success.
"Yes I'm looking forward to this date, but that doesn't mean I have to get up at six in the morning," I whispered when I heard Alice move in her bed.
"Then go back to bed," Lily whispered back and I rolled my eyes. Like I would be able to fall asleep again.
"I can't sleep anymore Lil," I said while I grabbed my bathrobe and pulled it on. "Besides I have already planned something for him. He's going to get something really special."
"Do I want to know?" Lily asked and I flashed her a grin. "I already thought so. Nope, I don't want to hear it."
But there was something else I wanted to discuss. Or actually I wanted to ask. I knew Lily knew something about my date with Sirius. "If Sirius had planned something awful you would tell me wouldn't you," I asked her.
She stopped with organizing her clothes for a moment before answering me. "I promised James I wouldn't tell you anything. But if it was a terrible idea, I would have warned you. All I'm going to say about it is don't worry."
I sighed in relief. That was one thing I wouldn't have to worry about. My clothes weren't a big issue as well. Sirius knew what kind of girl I was so he wouldn't expected me to be all dressed up. The only worry I had left was his fan club. They had ruined some of his dates before and after all that had already happened, I wouldn't be too surprised if they wanted to sabotage this day. That made me wonder who would be the first one to explode. Me or Sirius. We both were done with nonsense and my hands itched to use my wand.
"Do you want something from the kitchens?" I asked Lily and she raised an eyebrow.
"You're going to the kitchen at six in the morning?"
I looked at my clock. "At six fifteen to be precise. And yes I am. The house elves are already busy preparing breakfast and I'm hungry. So if you want something as well?"
"No I don't want anything. I'm going to get breakfast at the Great Hall, just like anyone else," she said while she rolled her eyes. "You're such a gobbler sometimes."
I silently laughed at that. Lily was my best friend, but there were some things where we were too different to really understand each other. I would never be the girl who would wear skirts in her spare time. Nor would I understand the importance of wearing make-up every day. She on the other hand, would never understand my everlasting sense of hunger and my objection to rules. But that was something I cherished about our friendship. Even though we didn't always understand each other, we always accepted the decisions the other made.
I softly made my way down to the common room. There wouldn't be too many people awake at this time so there was a small chance of seeing someone. While I wasn't someone who was moody in the morning, I wasn't interested in a conversation with another student. I was halfway through the portrait hole when I heard a voice.
"Where are you going sugar?"
I turned around and saw a grinning Sirius. Oh Merlin he was sexy in the morning. His hair was a mess and he wore only his pajama bottoms. The only thing I could do was stare at him. It wasn't like I hadn't seen him like this before. There were numerous occasions where Sirius would walk around in just his pants in the morning. But this was the first time I saw him like this since we started dating.
"I know I'm irresistible to look at, but you haven't answered my question," he said and that snapped me out of it.
"I'm going to the kitchens. Lily woke me while she was picking clothes for her date with James and now I'm hungry," I said.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let you go to the kitchens. It would ruin my first surprise," he said while he grabbed my hand.
His first surprise… Did he really had a plan for the whole day? Maybe I didn't give him enough credit. It was just, his usual dates weren't really special. He mostly spend it at Zonko's to get supplies for their pranking, then to Madam Puddifoots to snog his date and he would dump them in the end. It wasn't something a girl would be proud of. But then again, Lily had said he had changed and I could see he really wanted to surprise me.
"But I'm hungry Sirius. Lily doesn't want to go, because she is not hungry." I really liked it that he made this effort, but I needed some food.
"I'll go downstairs. You can wait for me in the boy dormitory," he said while he walked to me. "My bed is still warm," he whispered in my ear when he wrapped his arms around me. I could feel a shiver going down my spine and I looked up at him.
"I'll keep it warm for you," I whispered back and he grinned at me.
"I'll go to the kitchens in a minute. First it's time for my morning kiss," he said.
I grinned before my lips touched his. It didn't matter how many times we had done this, it was still enough to make me weak in the knees. What was intended to be a morning kiss evolved into a snog session. Sirius tucked on my bathrobe and when it wouldn't come off he decided to just put his hands underneath it.
"Sirius," I said while I broke the kiss. "Not here."
He stared at me and laughed. "Who do you think is coming down at this hour?"
Probably nobody. Everyone was always sleeping in on the weekends. And while on Hogsmeade days most of them were up a bit earlier than usual, it wouldn't be before eight o'clock. But still, the small chance of someone walking in on us wasn't really something I was waiting for.
"I don't know, but still," I said and he grinned at me.
"I like it when you're being a little prude."
I opened my mouth to reacted to it, but what could I say. I wouldn't describe myself as a prude, but compared to Sirius everyone was prude.
"Just go down and get my food," I said and he winked at me.
"You're wish is my command," he said and with that he disappeared through the portrait hole.
I stared after him, before shaking my head. He sometimes was a very special person. With a sigh I turned around and made my to the boys dormitory. I stopped in front of the door, not really knowing what to do. Did I have to knock? Maybe they were changing and while it wouldn't be the first time I saw them in their underwear, it wasn't something I wanted to walk into. But maybe they were still asleep and knocking would only wake them up. I debated for a few minutes what would be the best option. In the end I settled for a soft knock to see if someone reacted to it. It was quiet for a moment, before I heard someone telling me to come in.
"Good morning Rain," Remus said, while I opened the door. Apparently all the boys were awake. James was reading something in a Quidditch book and Peter waved to me from his bed. I dropped down on Sirius' bed and put my feet under the covers. It was still a bit chilly in the morning.
"Why are you guys awake at this unholy hour?" I asked them. James was the one that answered.
"You could ask your boyfriend that," he said and I frowned. Sirius woke them all up? But why? Remus seemed to sense my confusion and tried to explain it.
"He's been planning your date all week and got up this morning at five. We all had to help. He's quite anxious something will go wrong."
Peter laughed at that. "Anxious isn't even enough to describe it." He got up and frantically ran around the room. "Prongs, Prongs, what if she doesn't like it? Wormtail do you know if everything is where it's supposed to be? What if she wakes up to early Moony? What am I supposed to do?" Peter yelled impersonating Sirius.
I couldn't help but laugh at the spectacle, while the boys glared at me. I actually felt sorry for them. I thought Lily was weird getting up this early, but apparently Sirius was even worse. Who knew the boy could be nervous for a date?
"Why are you already awake?" James asked. "You usually sleep till nine or ten if we don't wake you."
"You could ask your girlfriend that," I retorted and Remus laughed. "She's the one in my dorm who is running around at this unholy hour. Scared you think she isn't looking pretty enough."
"But my Lilyflower is always pretty," James cried and I rolled my eyes. Lily was a gorgeous girl, but there were some moments when I wouldn't call her pretty. No one was always pretty. Or perhaps Sirius was…
"Actually," Peter started. "Why are you here?"
I looked at the boys who were all staring at me. Since when was it weird for me to drop by? I've been in their dorm since second year. What was different this time?
"I can't hang out with my friends anymore? I've been here a million times," I said and Remus frowned.
"Yes but never at six thirty in the morning on a Saturday. Besides, Sirius isn't here and I would assume you would rather spend time with him than with us."
I gave him an offended look. I would never choose between Sirius and the rest of the group. Yes, I loved spending time with Sirius alone, but I also liked studying with Remus or going to the kitchen with James. I did my best to find the right balance. Remus saw the look I gave him and his eyes widened.
"I didn't mean it like that Rain," he said and I looked at all of them.
"Do you all think I spend too much time with Sirius and not enough with you?" I asked.
"Well we spend less time together, but that's normal," James said. "I'm also spending time with Lily and alone with the guys. Remus has Jirina and Peter has his mysterious girl, so it's not weird we have less time for each other."
"I agree with James," Remus said. "What I meant was, Sirius went downstairs and you came up without him and I thought you would spend the day together."
They were right. It wasn't that we were drifting apart, we just had a little less time to spend as a group. Or maybe we should make a little more effort in doing something together. I made a mental note to plan something for the group to do together.
"Actually I wanted to spend my early morning alone. I was ready to go to the kitchens to get some early breakfast when Sirius told me I wasn't allowed to go downstairs because it would spoil his surprise."
James snorted when I told him about my breakfast plan and I gave him an affronted look. Why did everyone think my love for food was amusing?
"Speaking of the surprise," I said while ignored James. "Can you guys give me a hint of what's going to happen downstairs?"
They all shook their head and at that moment Sirius appeared in the dorm. He crawled in his bed and gave me a bowl with yoghurt and little mango pieces. One of my favorite desserts. I gave him a thankful smile, while I placed the bowl in my lap. I wondered what else he had gotten me. I waited for a moment, but Sirius shifted his attention to James to tell him something about a Slytherin he saw on his way to the kitchen. Wait this was it? Only a little bowl of yogurt and fruit?
"Euhm Sirius, where is the rest of the food?" I asked and all the boys looked at me.
"This is it sugar. You'll have plenty of food when we go down for breakfast. Just wait and see. I know you'll love it."
I huffed and started eating my tiny first breakfast. I loved him planning this surprise for me, but everyone knew I would get moody when I didn't have enough food. I had finished the bowl too fast for my liking and I snuggled closer to Sirius. He rubbed my arm and I slowly drifted a bit asleep.
"Want to go downstairs for some breakfast?" Sirius mumbled after what seemed like a few minutes. I nodded and said I would get some clothes in my own dorm. The boys and I decided that we would meet in ten minutes in the common room and I strolled to my own dorm. Lily was sitting on her bed, dressed in a simple top with jeans. Her outfit for her date was at the end of her bed.
"Well that was a long trip to the kitchen," she said dryly and I smiled sheepishly.
"I met Sirius in the common room and I wasn't allowed to leave it. So he sent me up his dorm and got me some food. And then I sort of fell asleep seeing it is euhm," I said while I looked at my clock. "Eight already."
Lily just rolled her eyes and I quickly grabbed the first clothes I saw in my trunk. I would change when I got back from breakfast so it wouldn't matter what I wore. Suddenly I felt nervous. What if Sirius would do something big in front of everyone? I tried not to think about it and smiled at Lily.
"Ready to go to breakfast?" she asked and I nodded.
I followed her down the stairs and wondered what would happen today. It would probably not be something very special.
If I'd only known.
A/N: There we are again: chapter twenty nine! I know I had said the next chapter would be their date, but I was writing and writing and in the end the chapter was far too long to be only one chapter. So I decided to split them into two separate chapters. I also wrote a little Sirius/OC one shot, so if you like this one, maybe you like the other one as well. I once again would love to thank everyone for the lovely feedback. Every time I get an email with a notification of a new follow or favorite, I get a smile on my face. A special thanks to the people who reviewed: CRAZILITIOUS and a very special thanks to reviewer Hazelvex who has been following and reviewing this story for some time. What do you guys think Sirius has planned for their Hogsmeade date? Let me know in a review :)
