Chance Encounters

'You said you'd forget all about her.' Tink accused him. 'You said nothing would change.'

Peter stopped playing the eerie melody from his pipes and glanced up to look at the tiny fairy. Peter was sat on a high up tree branch with one leg dangling off the edge. Below he had a beautiful view of mermaid lagoon.

'What are you talking about?' He asked. Tink folded her arms and scowled.

'You're different.' She stated.

Peter laughed and swatted her away. 'Your crazy, nothing has changed.'

'Everything has changed!' Tink said throwing her arms up in frustration. 'The constant arrival of lost boys for one.' Peter didn't say anything, he placed his pipes to his lips and began to play.

'Your little stunt in Wonderland did not go unnoticed Peter.' Tink said.

'No one calls me that anymore.' Peter spat, putting his pipes back down. 'And Wonderland was centuries ago.'

'For us. To others it was only a matter years and to others only a matter weeks. The worlds are not in sync Peter and you have yet to face the cost of such an adventure.'

'What cost?' Peter sneered.

'Your not suppose to ever leave Neverland.' Tink reminded him. 'Those are the rules.'

'There are always exceptions to such rules.' Peter shrugged, he turned away from her to look out at the horizon.

'Is that why she's here?' Tink asked slamming her hands on her hips in a huff.

'Is who here?' Peter looked back at her, his brows furrowed in confusion.

'Wendy.' Tinkerbell said.

'What?' Peter shouted standing up on the branch.

'You didn't send for her?' Tink asked, the accusing tone still in her voice. She tilted her head in confusion at his equally confused expression.

'No.' Peter said. 'How is she here?''

'Your shadow brought her.' Tink hovered round him.

'My shadow?' Peter muttered. He closed his eyes and concentrated. 'Why would my shadow bring a girl here?'

'Because that's all she is? Just a girl?' Tink said. She tutted as he ignored her.

Peter's mind searched for her. Now he was focusing, she couldn't have been more obvious. Nothing on the island felt like her.

'Found her.' He muttered and with that he disappeared in a cloud of green smoke.

'Well looks like we found the cost.' Tink sighed below flying into the jungle to find him again.

Sally didn't know where she was when she woke up. She was lying down on a cold laminate floor in a small empty room. Groaning she sat up. There wasn't a window and her only source of light was a single light bulb hanging bare from the ceiling. The was a door across the room from her.

The sound of footsteps make her instinctually shuffle back, hitting her back against the wall. A key was put into the lock and the door swung over.

The man stepped into the room and closed the door with his foot, his hands balancing a small tray.

'I've brought you some food, you must be hungry.' He said cheerfully.

'Who are you?' She asked. 'Why am I here?'

'Don't worry, I'm a friend. My name is Jefferson.' He said. He placed the tray on the floor slowly as if cautious of startling her.

'I'm going to keep you safe.' He told her. He stayed knelt down next to the tray. Jefferson stared at her for a moment.

'I can look after myself.' Sally frowned. She stood up but stayed against the wall. Her hands curled into fists.

'I have no doubt.' Jefferson laughed dryly. He stood up. 'I'm very aware of what you are capable of Miss Sparrow.

'Then let me go.' Sally demanded. Jefferson gave her a small smile.

'I will, once the time is right.' He said 'Now eat, I'll be back soon.'

Jefferson walked swiftly to the door and closed it behind him. Sally ran after him and hit her fists against the door.

'Wait.' She shouted. 'You can't just leave me here.' She hit the door a few more times, taking out her frustration. Tears prickled behind her eyes but she refused to cry. She'd done enough crying. Defeated she slumped against the door, eyeing the tray suspiciously. Eventually she edged closer, she was a little hungry and she could smell the fresh salmon. There were two halves of a sandwich filled with salmon and salad. Picking it up Sally carefully considered her options before deciding to eat it.

She picked up the tray and examined it carefully. It was only a thin plastic thing. Getting up Sally lent it against the wall and tried to snap it in half with her foot. It was a good idea but she couldn't get it to work. She tried bending it but she lacked the strength to break it. Throwing it down Sally sat down on the floor and buried her head in her arms. All she could do now was wait.

Betrayal. It was something Peter was accustomed to but after twenty eight years he'd forgotten just how much it hurt. He always had a back up plan though, those who betray Pan are punished and Peter knew exactly how to hurt Jefferson.

He stalked in the shadows, his face like thunder. He darted in between alleyways, careful not to be seen. It was starting to get dark making it easier for him to remain hidden. Making sure the coast was clear, Peter darted into the woods.

Once in amongst the trees, Peter moved at a much easier pace. He knew how to avoid being seen or heard in the forest and felt much more at ease in the wilderness than that of the town. Moving silently Peter stopped when he heard a voice. Curious he moved towards the voice, making sure he definitely stayed out of sight once he spotted who it was.

Gold and the stranger who owned the motorbike were there. The stranger was digging and Gold was watching him with an odd expression on his face.

The stranger stopped digging and bent down to pick something up. Peter couldn't quite see it at first but once he caught sight of the silver blade Peter took a step forwards, almost forgetting he was to remain hidden. Blinking he moved back silently behind the tree, luckily unseen by the two men. Their focus was completely on each other and the dagger in the stranger's hand.

'It's remarkable.' The stranger commented. Gold nodded his head. Peter frowned, from what he could tell, it was just a fancy looking knife.

The stranger stepped back examining the dagger thoughtfully. Slowly with the dagger in both hands he pointed it at Gold.

'By the power of the darkness, I command thee, dark one.' He said.

Gold looked at him in confusion and disbelief.

'Your trying to control me?' He asked.

'I command thee dark one.' The stranger shouted.

Gold walked over to him and pointed accusingly at him.

'Your not my son.' Gold spat. 'Your not Baelfire.'

'Baelfire?' Peter thought. 'Baelfire is Rumplestilskin's son?' A mixture of emotion hit him as he remembered the lost boy who had come to Neverland. The boy who Peter both respected and hated more than anyone.

'Poppa, why would you say that? I'm just trying to use your power to help…' He was cut off as Gold shouted over him.

'Enough.' He roared. 'It's over Booth or whoever you are. My son would never try to use me and he would know that this knife can not harness any magic from this world because there is no magic in this world. That's why he chose this place, he didn't want me,' Gold grabbed the dagger. 'Dabbling.' He flipped the knife and caught it.

'The dagger can control the dark one?' Peter thought. Peter vaguely recalled Bae speaking of his father. He was always so secretive about his past but he'd always disapproved of magic and now Peter understood why. He looked at the stranger with interest and wondered if Bae was still alive. Would he be around the age of the stranger, in appearance at least. Peter wasn't sure how he felt about it. He had never been sure where Bae had ended up.

'Do I even look like him at all? The stranger asked. Peter had missed part of the conversation. He shook his head though. The stranger looked nothing like Bae, which meant Gold must be pretty desperate to find him.

'The dark one has a weakness'. Peter smiled and glanced at the knife in Gold's hand. 'Looks like he has more than one.' He thought.

'How do you know about this knife? Gold asked.

'I hear things.' The stranger replied.

Gold walked towards him.

'No one here knows about this knife.'

'No one here remembers.'

Gold tilted his head. 'And yet you do? Your from there aren't you? From my world.'

Peter watched as Gold lunged at the man and held his knife to the man's throat, threatening him for information.

Peter had become aware that he was stuck there until the men had left. He waited with a new found impatience, he had the information he needed and now he wanted to go back to finding Wendy. He waited until Gold had finally decided to leave, walking dangerously close to Peter's hiding place. The stranger had slipped down the tree. The realisation what had nearly become of him had settled over him like a wave of nausea.

Since the man was lost in his defeat, Peter was certain he could now slip away unnoticed.

He didn't really have time for distractions but he decided he had a few questions of his own.

'That was certainly brave of you.' Peter said stepping out. The stranger jumped and immediately tried to get to his feet.

'Don't get up. I'm not staying.' Peter told him. The man sat back down, he'd obviously used up all his energy dealing with Gold. Peter wondered if he'd give up so easily if he knew who he really was.

'Who are you?' The man asked.

'I could ask you the same question.' Peter said walking closer. 'How do you know Baelfire?'

'What's it to you?' He asked.

'Just curious, he's an old friend of mine.' Peter said smiling somewhat bitterly.

'You remember? How?' He asked.

'I earned myself a different kind of curse.' Peter stopped a few feet from him. 'So Bae, do you know what happened to him?'

'I don't.' The man said. 'I didn't need to.'

'Fair enough.' Peter said. 'And that dagger, can it really control the dark one?'

'In our world it could.' He replied.

Peter folded his arms and sighed. As interesting as with whole exchange had been he needed to press on.

'Alright, Ill leave you to your little melt down.' Peter said turning his back on him.

'Who are you?' The man called after him.

'If I told you then it would be no fun.' Peter shouted back.

Wendy was stood on the beach admiring the waves when Peter appeared behind her. He didn't say anything at first, he was too taken back by how much she'd changed.

She was taller, although he was still at least a head taller. Her hair was longer now and she looked a few years older. Her face was lit up in wonder.

'Hello.' Peter said quietly. His voice was soft and lacked his usual cockiness tone. He felt nervous but he didn't know why. Wendy turned around and she simply beamed at him. Peter felt his heart quicken.

'Peter.' His name had never sounded sweeter. Wendy launched herself at him making him lose his balance and they landed in a heap on the sandy floor. Giggling Wendy let go of him and sat up. Peter sat up too, grinning like a lunatic.

'Oh Peter I knew I'd see you again. I never forgot about you, I made up stories about you and told them to my brothers. You're their hero. Oh Michael wasn't born last time I saw you. I have two brothers now and they just love the stories of Peter Pan. Oh Peter I did miss you.' Wendy rambled on and Peter let her, too amazed to have her back in front of him.

'I knew as soon as I saw your shadow that it belonged to you. Bae told me not to go but I had to see you again.' She said.

'Who is Bae?' Peter interrupted.

'Oh he's just a friend.' Wendy said but her slight blush gave her away. Peter inwardly growled.

'Just a friend?' He asked, his tone harsh.

'Yes.' Wendy said sensing the change in him. 'Will you show me your world Peter? I would so love to see everything.' She changed the subject quickly and clasped her hands in front of her in a pleading motion.

'Alright.' Peter said, ignoring the pang of jealously in his chest.

He held out his hand for her to take and with her hand securely in his, they disappeared in his signature magical green smoke.

Jefferson knew he couldn't avoid Pan forever but he had thought he'd more time. As the young man stood a few feet away, Jefferson cursed. Peter cocked his head to one side, his hands on his hips.

'Well that was easy.' Peter commented.

Jefferson was tempted to run. Instead he swallowed his fear and smiled broadly.

'What happened to being in prison?' Jefferson asked politely.

'I heard my bird had gone missing. Thought I'd best make sure she's safe.' Peter replied taking a purposeful step forwards.

'She's safe.' Jefferson said.

'It was a stupid move to cross me Hatter.' Peter took another step forwards. 'I mean after everything your little girl has gone through, I'd hate for any more misfortune to fall upon her.'

'I didn't take Sally to keep her from you Pan.' Jefferson held his hands up in a defensive manner. 'I only took her because you were no longer in a position to keep her safe.'

Peter punched him.

'Keep her safe from what?' Peter hissed. Jefferson rubbed his cheek and tried to create some distance between them.

'From herself, before Sally Sparrow causes any more harm before this curse is lifted.' Jefferson said desperately, narrowly avoiding another hit to the face. 'She can't be trusted.'

'What are you talking about?' Peter scowled. They were circling, Jefferson desperate to keep Peter talking and at a safe distance.

'You think I don't know? How do you think Wendy cope when she wakes up with the memories of Sally and what she's done.' Jefferson said.

'She's strong, she will get over it.' Peter said.

'Peter she killed two people.' Jefferson said.

'No she didn't.' Peter was quick to respond.

'I know. Peter.'

'How?' Peter asked. 'You weren't there. I was more than willing, I've been telling you how I was going to kill them for months.'

'It's because you've been telling me for months.' Jefferson laughed dryly. 'You'd of got away with it, not arrested at the scene. I am not your enemy Pan.'

Peter stared at him for a few moments before running a hand through his hair.

'Alright.' He breathed. Jefferson wasn't sure what to do next, wary of Pan's ever changing moods.

As predictably unpredictable as Peter was, Jefferson received another punch to the face.

'What was that for?' Jefferson had fallen to the ground, his eye throbbing.

'I was all geared up to kill you.' Peter said darkly. 'Now that I'm not I'm all, twitchy.'

'I suppose I should thank you then?' Jefferson said sarcastically.

'Yes you should.' Peter replied missing the sarcastic tone. 'Now I assume you have a plan?'

'Yes I do.' Jefferson said. 'But first I need some ice for my face.'

Author's Notes.

Ok so I'm hoping the Pan vs Hatter wasn't too much of an anti climax, and that you like the Sally twist? The next chapter will feature a flashback of what actually went down with the Sparrow's deaths. I'm exploring the idea that there might be a darker side of Wendy/Sally (after all she did spent a century in Neverland) and when the curse is broken there might be more character development to be had with Wendy since we didn't get much in the show.

As always please let me now what you think. I'll try to keep writing and get the next chapter out as soon as I can.
