Air
The braided pilot burst through his door, waving a thin manila envelope around before tossing to onto the desk. Without a word, Heero moved the file to the side, not breaking his eye contact with the computer screen.
"He did it. Boy Wonder has finally cracked," Duo said, lazily seating himself in the chair opposite Heero.
"Did what?"
"You sound so intrigued," Duo scoffed, but Heero knew he would continue talking regardless. "Quatre has finally cracked and is now blaming himself for everything."
"Why would he do that?" Heero asked in monotone, still typing quickly.
"Remember that time in space when I told you that if you leave him alone long enough he'll blame himself for everything? He was alone in his office with a couple reports from the colonies…" He trailed off, hoping Heero would remember what the past example was.
"And?"
No such luck.
"He thinks his lack of effort is why there isn't any air in outer space. Now, he's ignoring all of the other pressing matters and hired a bunch of scientist to make sure we can breathe."
At this, Heero stopped typing and looked up to Duo. The stoic pilot wasn't entirely sure if this was another one of Duo's jokes or if he was serious and concerned about the mental health of their comrade. Heero blinked twice, waiting for further explanation. The other looked at him impassively, waiting for Heero's response.
After a while, the American spoke, "What should we do about him?"
Heero blinked again then shrugged nonchalantly, "Let him try. The scientists will more than likely tell him it's impossible. There isn't anything we can do to stop him once he's set his mind to it."
"But-!"
"Or you can send Trowa to talk to him." Heero turned back to his computer and continued typing as if this small interruption hadn't happened at all.
Letting out a heavy sigh, Duo stood up and left the room. He should have known better than to ask Heero for help.
Hey! I watched Endless Waltz the other day and decided it was time to make another one shot for this fun story! I hope this was, at the very least, amusing. I wanted to make a crack at Quatre since Picture of Success has him as a bad guy.
