"Jane? You in here?" Darcy, Jane's loyal intern called as she entered the lab.
The lab was its usual brightness, but was eerily quiet.
"Jane?" Darcy called out again. She turned the corner to find Jane face down on her desk, appearing passed out.
Darcy walked up to the astrophysicist to try and wake her. As she got closer she realized there was something funny.
There was a tiny dart stuck in Jane's shoulder.
"Uh oh." Darcy called to no one. And quickly enough Darcy too had passed out.
"Are you not going to do something?" Hela asked Loki in the depths of Asgard's palace.
"Don't you have Hel to rule daughter?" Loki snapped.
"I'm so sorry father. I did not realize you were so busy playing king." Hela snipped full of sarcasm, causing Loki to turn to face her.
"I am a king."
Hela rolled her eyes. " Yeah, you're doing a heck of a job with that."
"Watch what you say Hela. Remember who brought you back from your exile."
"An exile for reasons I do not know and brought back for reasons I do not know. You are changing the subject father."
"Why do you care so much about two measly Midgardians?" Loki asked.
"Why do you care so little? They are Thor's love and her friend. They are important to your brother."
"Thor is not my brother." Loki said defiantly.
"Once you cared, did you not?"
"You know your role Hela. How are you adjusting to your throne?"
"Adjusting. And I do not understand why we cannot help the Midgardians."
"You have a realm Hela. One for the dead. You should not care for Midgard anymore. Much less its inhabitants. Shouldn't you be overjoyed at the prospect of new subjects?"
"I lived on Midgard for over twenty years of my life and until I met you, Midgard is all I remember. How could I not care?"
"Don't you understand Hela? There are bigger things at play. The more we get involved the more that path changes."
"Maybe that's a good thing. If you are not going to go, than I will."
"This is not the daughter I remember. Not long ago you truly were the goddess of death. I hardly recognize you now."
"You told me we could do good. Now we have an opening to truly do such and you… turn? I am tired of your tricks father!" Hela snapped before she teleported away.
Loki sighed. How come Hela had to be so unlike his other children? Loki then decided he better follow her down to Midgard…
"This one was nice." Steve pointed to a one of the available apartments. We had narrowed it down to three possible options.
I nodded. "Yeah, it was nice. But I don't know… it felt a little… box-y."
Steve looked at me funny.
"I felt like I was in a box, okay?"
"So this one is a no." Steve moved the picture out of the way. "Down to two."
"Yay…" I roll my eyes. "This house was roomy." I point towards it.
"It was good. Not a typical suburban family home." Steve noted.
"You could put your own gym in it." I point out.
"You could have a workshop." Steve then pointed out.
"We could have a movie room in it as well." I shrug.
"Definitely room for kids." Steve added.
"Most important part." I smile. "This apartment is good too."
"I liked that one too. It felt homey."
"Had a pretty view."
"A balcony too."
"All good things." I sigh. "This is difficult."
"Both are really good options."
"Should we result to a pro's and con's list?" I suggest.
"Maybe." Steve laughed. Then we were interrupted by a beep.
"Looks like we will have to finish this later. Emergency at the tower."
"Great." I groan. "I'll get started on the pros and cons." I start to shuffle papers.
Steve nodded. "I'll be home as soon as I can. Maybe it will not be too serious."
"Hopefully." I look up at Steve as he stands up. "Love you." I smile.
Steve gives a large grin as he leans down to kiss me. "I love you too."
"Now go. The world needs you."
"So… you have no clue were Jane and Darcy are. That's what your saying." Clint summarized.
"Verily. I fear some terrible fate has happened." Thor frowned.
"I hate to inform you the truth Thor." A voice said from behind.
"Hela, you have returned to Midgard." Thor looked at his niece.
"Leah? The daughter of the crazy god?" Clint raised his brow.
"That means the crazy god is not that far behind…" Natasha groaned.
"Do you know what happened to Jane and Darcy?" Steve asked the young woman.
"Not exactly. I'm still working on the whole 'magic' thing. Twenty-four years rusty here. But being the goddess of death and to a lesser extent misfortune I can sense this stuff."
"Well… what do you know?" Tony asked.
"That they were sedated and taken away from Jane Foster's lab. I do not know by whom."
"Thor, shall we head to the scene of the crime?" Tony suggested to Thor.
"Have you two found anything yet?" Natasha asked Tony and Thor over the communicators.
"No blood. Which is a relief. That means their captors are professionals. Which is not a relief." Tony answered back.
Clint, Bruce, Natasha, Steve, Sam and Bucky all gave a glare towards the communicator.
"Is there evidence towards who might have taken them?" Sam asked.
"JARVIS is analyzing the scene to see if there is anything." Tony responded.
"Thor, anything from you?" Steve asked the stressed out thunder god.
"Not yet friend Steven."
"Was there a security camera or anything? It's a lab with thousands worth of equipment. There had to be something." Clint suggests.
"There is… or was…" Thor noted.
"Whoever snapped 'em knew there was cameras and shot at them. When I get back to the lab I can get JARVIS to try to salvage some footage. But the cameras are kind of very destroyed. But maybe we'll get lucky." Tony said as he analyzed the trashed camera.
The team could see everything Tony was seeing via JARVIS. And that was exactly how Bucky noticed something.
"It was HYDRA guys." Bucky sighed.
"How do you know that James?" Natasha asked.
"The way the cameras are destroyed. I had to destroy security cameras the same way. How Hydra trained me to."
"Nice eye." Sam commended Bucky.
"Okay… So we are going to head back and we are going to kick more HYDRA ass." Tony summarized. "Excellent."
"Where is Hela?" Loki popped up in front of me. I calmly looked up from my papers.
"I don't know. Is she on earth?"
"Yes, she came here to Midgard to help Thor search for a missing Jane Foster and an intern."
"So that's why Steve rushed for an emergency…" I realize.
"So can you help Alyssa?" Loki looked towards me desperate.
"Why are you so concerned? Leah is older than me. Been on Midgard for as long as I have. She can travel realms by herself." I shrug.
"Because she doesn't know what she's doing! She is not reacquainted with her magic yet; she cannot resurrect anyone, or kill with a touch. The only thing she has mastered is teleportation!" Loki whined.
"Wow… that sucks." I glare at the crazy guy.
"Help me! You owe me!"
"I owe you nothing! You are asking me for a favor. One I will not give you." I point out.
"Help me Alyssa before I make you."
"No. Ever think you are being a little over protective? Hela is an adult. You trust her to run a realm but will not let her help her uncle on Midgard? I think there are more dangers in Hel than here in Los Angeles. Plus she is probably used to seeing zombies so she'll fit right in."
"Why do you Starks think you can go toe to toe with me?"
"Well… the track record is in our favor…"
Loki rolled his eyes. "You will help me find Hela."
"Can't you use magic to track her down?"
"Not how magic works."
"Why didn't you ask Heimdall before you left Asgard? Isn't it his job to know?"
"Not that simple."
"If you could find me you could find her."
"Are you always this annoying?"
"I prefer the word persistent."
Loki then did something uncharacteristic… he facepalmed.
"I'll just teleport to the tower…" Loki sighed as he teleported away.
I leaned back in my chair then a call from Pepper comes.
"Hello mom." I smile.
"Hey Alyssa. I know you and Steve had narrowed it down to three possible new places to live…" Pepper started.
"It's two now, but go on."
"Anyway… I think I found one place you might want to consider…"
"Hey… Natasha, remember what Rumlow said a few weeks ago… with that Deadpool guy?" Clint asks.
"That he promised that all of us would suffer and HYDRA would make sure of that. Yes. I remember." Natasha answered as she snacked on pistachio nuts.
"What if… this is it?" Clint asked.
"HYDRA is trying to get Thor out of balance buy capturing Jane and Darcy?" Natasha clarified Clint's theory.
"It would make sense. Going after us, Tony or Cap would be too easy and predictable. Thor… not so much."
"Alright, say your theory is correct. How would we know?"
"We poke the bear."
"Darcy?" Jane called out as she woke up to find herself in a dark room.
"Jane?" Darcy called out as a reply.
"Are you alright?"
"Um… I think so… are you?"
"Yeah… I'm fine. What happened to us?"
"I don't know. I remember going to the lab and you passed out on your desk. Where are we?"
"No idea."
"Do you think someone is looking for us?" Darcy asked hopefully.
"I hope so."
"Do we or do we not know where Jane and Darcy are?" Bucky asked frustrated.
"Well we have…"
"There is this…"
"We possibly…"
"I think we might…"
"It's a chance…"
"There's an approximate…"
"SHUT UP!" Sam yelled. "And you six saved the world?"
"Unbelievable…" Bucky shook his head.
"Maybe I can help?" Loki appeared in the room.
"Brother… you are here for Hela." Thor looked towards Loki.
"Yes, and clearly she is not here. But she did come here to help you so I guess I can help you idiots find those missing Midgardians." Loki said annoyed.
"Are we really going to team up with this guy again?" Sam asked.
Steve sighed half asleep. "I guess so."
"Steve… you look exhausted." Natasha looked at the soldier. "Go home."
"I'm fine Natasha. Besides, Darcy and Jane need to be found."
"We have it covered Cap. We have more than enough people here. We'll call if we need you." Clint pushed the super soldier towards the door.
"You are useless to us half asleep anyway." Bruce commented.
"Guys…" Steve protested.
"I'll drive the big guy home. Only way we will get him to leave." Sam decided and led Steve out of the room.
"Man, that punk needs a break…" Bucky shook his head.
"I'm hungry." Darcy sighed.
"I know… this is the hundredth time you've said it Darcy." Jane sighed.
"I wish we had food."
"I wish we were out."
"That too."
Then suddenly three masked guards entered the room.
"Duck." The guard on the left told the two prisoners. His masculine voice had a slight Russian accent.
Jane and Darcy looked at each other quizzically.
"We said duck." The guard on the right then said. A woman this time with the same slight accent.
"Um… why?" Jane asked nervously.
Then an arrow shot through the window and hit the guard in the center. The two guards that had spoken revealed themselves as the Black Widow and the Winter Soldier.
"That." Bucky shrugged.
"You untie Jane, I'll get Darcy." Natasha directed her temporary partner.
"Roger that Romanoff." Bucky said as he pulled out his knife to cut the bonds.
"How'd you know to look for us here?" Jane asked.
"One very worried demi-god. A rouge leader of Hel and a worried mini frost giant." Natasha informed them as the four made there way to the checkpoint.
The scientist and intern looked at them both for an explanation.
"Only the one makes sense." Darcy deadpanned.
"It will make sense later. We promise." Bucky told them as he rounded a corner and shot one of the guards.
"Did everything work out?" I ask as Steve hangs up the phone.
"Everything went about as good as it could get. Only one run in with Rumlow." Steve smiled as he came to sit beside me. Which quickly became him pulling me so I was sitting on his lap.
"That's good."
"You promise me you're going to be careful right?" Steve looked at me.
"Of course."
"Because with everything with HYDRA… and Jane… it could have been you… I don't know what I'd do if it had been you…" Steve said as he held me tightly against him. He leans his head on my shoulder with a sigh.
"Hopefully you'll never have to know." I say to Steve as I kiss his temple. "You doing okay?"
"Yeah…" Steve said quietly as he drew circles on my stomach. He didn't have me convinced he was okay.
"Liar." I mumble back to him. "Lets think of good things now, mopey."
"Like?"
"Pepper told me about another apartment available. Actually it's more of a house and apartment in one. Kind of like a loft. Anyway I went to go see it while you were out."
"And?"
"It's perfect."
Next Chapter: Alyssa and Steve officially move.
