AN: So I've decided to finish out this story with the end of season 2, and make both parts of season 3 into another story. Uh, which should be very interesting considering Derek and Cora left in the mid-season finale. So we'll see what happens. I still have to finish writing season two though, so hopefully by the time 3B starts, I'll be putting up 3A. Check out the end of the chapter for responses to reviews!
Chapter 29
On Sunday, Lydia disappeared from the hospital. Scott, Stiles, and Alison spent all night looking for her. They didn't find her though. Scarlet tried talking Derek into helping them, but he said he had to take care of something. He did ask her to keep an eye on Jackson though.
Scarlet joined Danny and Jackson at the back table in chemistry the next day. She drummed her fingers against the desk and their teacher passed out a quiz. Jackson shot her a look before reaching across and grabbing her hand.
"Will you chill please? They will find her," he muttered.
"You don't seem that concerned."
"This is a pop quiz Mr. Stilinski, if I hear your voice again I may be tempted to give you detention for the rest of your high school career," the teacher snapped suddenly. Scarlet stiffened in her seat and glanced at Stiles.
"Can you do that," Stiles asked in awe.
"There it is again, you voice, triggering the only impulse I've ever had to strike a student repeatedly and violently. See you at three for detention."
Scarlet turned her attention to her quiz, glancing up when she heard something drip onto a paper. She stared at the black splotch on Jackson's paper in confusion.
"Dude," Danny whispered. "Your nose. You ok?"
"Jackson," Scarlet said nervously. He jumped out of his seat and darted out the door without answering her though. Scarlet stared after him, waiting about a minute before going after him.
"I'm going to make sure he is ok sir, I think he's sick," she explained as she rushed out the door.
"Please take him to the nurse if he is," their teacher called after her.
Scarlet ran around the corner that led to the boy's bathroom, slamming into someone. She stumbled back, gasping when she realized it was Derek.
"What are you doing here," she demanded. Derek grabbed her arm and pulled her into the bathroom. He put a finger to his lips as he knocked on a closed stall.
"I'm fine Danny, just go back to class," Jackson answered. Derek knocked again and Scarlet crossed her arms anxiously. "Just give me a second ok?"
Derek shook the door trying to get it open. Scarlet stood just behind him, growing more anxious by the second.
"I said give me a freaking second," Jackson shouted.
Derek finally got the door open and yanked Jackson out, pushing him into the sinks. Jackson glanced between the two of them.
"Derek," he said quickly.
"You're looking a little pale there Jackson, you feeling ok," Derek asked as he brushed off Jackson's shoulder.
"Never better," Jackson replied. Scarlet knew him well enough to know that he was scared of something.
"If something's wrong, I need to know. You're with me now," Derek said firmly.
"Wait, with you? Me with you," Jackson said with a laugh. "What am I? Your little pet? I mean just because you gave me the bite doesn't mean I'm part of your little wolf pack. Sorry, but to be honest you don't exactly show outstanding leadership qualities."
"Is that so," Derek asked with a smirk.
"Look I've got my own agenda, which doesn't involve running around the woods at night and howling at the moon with you and McCall. Ok, so why don't you just back off, Scarlet may not have a choice when it comes to you, but I do," Jackson replied.
"Jackson," Scarlet cried in annoyance.
Derek put his fingers to Jackson's face and pushed it toward the mirror. Scarlet couldn't help but gasp when she saw the black oozing from his ears.
"What is it? What's happening," Jackson asked.
Scarlet moved to the sink and grabbed some paper towels. She began to run them under the water and wipe the ooze off Jackson's face.
"Your body is fighting the bite," Derek replied.
"Why," Jackson demanded. Derek backed away from them, slowly backing toward the door.
"I don't know."
"What does it mean," Jackson asked as he brushed Scarlet aside and turned toward Derek. "What does it mean?"
Jackson turned back to the mirror as Derek left the room. The ooze began to run out of his nose and his eyes widened with fear. Scarlet pressed a paper towel to his nose and moved closer to him.
"You're boyfriend is a dick," he said his voice shaking with fear.
"You didn't have to do this Jackson," Scarlet whispered. She continued to clean up Jackson's face. "You're going to be ok, you'll get through this."
"What is happening to me Scar?"
"I don't know, this is kind of like what happened to me after Peter attacked me in the woods. The marks got infected, I had the same stuff coming out of them. It was because my body was rejecting the bite from Peter."
"Am I rejecting the bite?"
"I don't know Jackson, I don't know."
...
Later that night, Scarlet went over to Jackson's to check on him. It was his mom that let her in though. "He's been upstairs all night Scarlet, he won't come out of his room. I don't know what is going on with him. I keep hearing coughing, hopefully its not something serious," she explained.
"He didn't feel well at school today and there's been some flu going around, I'm sure that's all it is. He doesn't want to get anyone else sick," Scarlet replied. "I'll let you know if he gets any worse."
"Aren't you worried about catching it?"
"Uh, I had it a few weeks ago actually so I should be fine," Scarlet said before rushing up the stairs. She knocked on Jackson's door trying the knob but it was locked. "Jackson, its Scarlet let me in!"
The door flung open and Jackson yanked her in, shutting the door behind her. Scarlet took one look at him and pushed him over to the bed. She made him sit down as she went into his bathroom and grabbed a washcloth. She ran it under the warm water before going back to him.
"How are you feeling," she asked softly as she wiped the black goo off his face.
"Like shit," he replied. "It's not like I thought it would be."
"You didn't have to do this Jackson," Scarlet said as she climbed off the bed and moved toward the bathroom. "There is nothing wrong with just being human."
Jackson caught her wrist and shook his head at her. "You don't get it, its about being something more. I was special before McCall got biten, I was the best and now that has been taken away from me. You don't know what that's like to have everything taken away and to not have any control or say. I need this Scarlet."
"Jackson, you don't! You are special, if you would stop being such an idiot you would see that! You don't need to be anything more than you are!"
"Is that you why chose Derek over me? Because I'm so special," Jackson demanded.
"We talked about that Jackson, I didn't pick him over you! That's not the way the mates thing works," Scarlet cried. She sat down on the bed next to him. "I didn't come here to fight with you. I came to help you. I know how scary this can be, I went through the exact same thing a few weeks ago. Let me help you, please?"
"Fine," Jackson said before falling back against the bed. Scarlet helped him get into bed and settled next to him on it. She kept a wet washcloth with her all night, wiping off his face and handing him tissues when he needed it. She spent all night by his side, making sure he was ok.
Scarlet barely slept that night, everytime she started to fall asleep Jackson would start coughing. She spent all night and the majority of the next day with him. He started to seem better later in the afternoon, so Scarlet headed home after making him swear to call her if he got bad again.
Review responses
Emmettluver2010: Glad you love it, sorry it took so long to update!
SilverAdvenger12: I took your advice and decided to keep going!
Atlafan1286: I felt the same way, it doesn't really matter so long as the chapters keep going up!
MsRose91: Derek and Scarlet are having some issues right now, but it will get worked out. She is going to take the bite before the end of this story. I think I've worked out how I want to do it.
