Life of a Castaway (book 2)
Deadlox's Pov
"Are we still going to your base?" I asked.
"Yeah. We're taking a shortcut." Sky responded.
"Didn't know you knew short cuts."
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I don't know. You just never use them."
"Yeah, I try to not make it a habit."
"I can see that." I replied.
"Yeah." We walked for a few more minutes until we approached Sky's base. Erin was laughing, and tearing into the base. "Sky! Where are you?" She screamed. Sky crouched down, and hid behind a tree.
"On the count of three, I'm going to charge Erin." I said.
"Ty, you don't need to do that. She's looking for me."
"That's why we're going to keep her away from you." I said, and took off running. Erin eyed me, then slammed a tentacle into my side. I hit the side of Sky's base, and conciousness slipped away. I grabbed it, and leaned against the wall for support.
"Where's Sky?" Erin shouted.
"I don't know." I called back.
"How can you not know where your friend is?!"
"I don't document his every move." I replied, and Erin's tentacle grabbed my leg. It was sticky, and cold. I shuddered. I didn't think I would ever experience that scenario again.
"Let go of me!" I pulled out my emerald sword, and slashed through the tentacle. The severed tentacle gripped harder. I tried to hack at it but all I would succeed in doing was jacking up my leg. exactly what I need. I limped towards Erin, still baring my sword.
"Well, what are you going to do now?" I asked.
"Nothing much except watch what I've been working on." I looked down at my leg."Yes. Your fears are confirmed. Eventually the tension will break your leg."
I tried to pull off the tentacle. I can't break a leg. It's not going to happen. I tried to ignore the squeezing, and ran towards Erin. I slashed her with my sword. I landed a few hits, but Erin landed more. I gripped my arm, and charged again. There was a crack, and I collapsed to the ground. Erin loomed over me, her sword threatening to come down on my head. I held up mine to block, but it was knocked to the side. I stared up with wide eyes as Erin readied her sword.
I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the impact although it probably didn't matter. The sword was going to land on my head anyway. The sword never came. I opened my eyes. Sky was holding the sword off.
"Deadlox, go!" I rolled over, and started crawling towards my sword. I grabbed it, and threw it at Erin once it was in my hands. She dodged, but was thrown off guard. Adam took that opportunity, and knocked her to the ground. She started at him before he brought down his sword on her shoulder.
She wailed, and stood up. I stared helpless as the fight went down. I couldn't do a thing. My leg was broken, I didn't have a bow, and my sword was too close to Erin for me to get to it. I looked down at my arm. My communicator sparked an idea. I typed a message to all my recruits.
Report to Sky's base ASAP!
Hopefully they can get here in time. Erin saw me, and ran forward. "You got lucky last time, but it isn't going to happen again." She held her sword above her head. I looked for Adam. He was on the ground unconscious. My sword was next to him. Maybe I could grab it if I'm careful. I rolled over, and crawled as fast as I could to the sword. I held it up just as Erin tried to bring her's down. She tried again, but I parried.
We got into a sword fight, until there was the sound of shouting. Erin heard it too, and looked up. "Erin. Meet my army!" I said, and crawled out of the way. Erin was mobbed by 1.8 million of my recruits. She finally managed to escape, and fled.
"Deadlox are you okay?" One of my recruits asked.
"No, I think my leg is broken." Two recruits carried me to the infirmary. I turned my head. "What about Adam?" A couple of the recruits looked his way. I craned my head, but couldn't see through the thick wave of people.
Adam and I were carted off to the infirmary. My leg was examined.
"It's definitely broken." Ethan wrote. "From what I could gather, it looks like the tentacle was designed to wrap around at an angle that it would snap when it hit a certain point of pressure." I coughed.
"More than I needed to know."
"Sorry."
"It's fine." I said, and turned my head to the side. Adam was in the bed next to me, but I couldn't see much from where I was laying. "Ethan, how's Sky doing?"
"Not too good. He was hit over the head. He might be in a coma."
I sighed. "Great, while all I have is a broken leg, my best friend is in a coma, and it's all because I got too close to Erin."
"It's not your fault." Ethan wrote.
"That's what you always say." I said. And now I'm acting like an ass hole. I'm such a good person.
"Well it's not! The person to blame is Erin." I sighed.
"You didn't see the whole thing. I was the reason Adam had to fight Erin while I sat there doing nothing."
"You held Erin off when he was unconscious." I gave up. Ethan is an incurable optimist. I wonder how it's even possible sometimes. I sat up. "You probably should stay in bed."
"I'm fine." I grabbed a pair of crutches, and lifted myself up. "Thanks anyway." I walked out.
"Ty!" I was wrapped in a hug.
"Hey Logan." I said.
"Where's your brother?" My heart sank.
"He's at my friend's base."
"Well we have to get him! He promised I could see your spaceman friend!" I smiled.
"Well then let's go see him."
"Yeah!" We walked out the door, but not before I left Ethan a note.
"How come you have crutches?"
"I hurt my foot." I responded.
"How did that happen?"
"I got in a fight."
"I thought violence doesn't solve problems."
"It didn't solve anything."
"Oh." Logan didn't ask any more questions. I found that odd, but I guess when you get a strange answer to a normal question you probably need time to think about it. Especially if you're eight.
"Well here we are." I said, and I knocked on Seto's door.
"Hey Ty. Who's your friend." Man I really need to talk to the poor guy. I quickly informed him on everything that had happened.
"Really? Well come on in."
"Is your spaceman friend here?" Logan asked.
"No. I don't know where Jason is." Seto replied. He led us to a room, and quietly opened the door. Enderlox was standing up, and he had his shirt back on which meant his burns were starting to heal. I guess the combination of cream, and potions help a lot.
"Hey Ty!" Enderlox said.
"How are you doing?" I asked.
"A lot better." He eyed my crutches.
"What happened?" I pulled him off to the side.
"Erin was attacking Sky's base."
"Is that why you're in crutches? Are you hurt in any other way?" He asked.
"I'm fine, but Adam's in a coma."
"Is he going to be alright?"
"Yeah." Enderlox gave me the look that suggests that he doesn't completely believe me.
"You don't know do you?"
"I don't, but all I can do is hope." I said.
"Well, we should check on him shouldn't we?" Enderlox said, and I looked over at Logan. Seto was entertaining him, and Logan looked fascinated.
"We're going to check on Adam." I said. "Logan, do you want to come?"
"No, Seto's gonna show me more magic!" Seto smiled, and the two of us walked out the door.
"So, how are you?" I asked.
"My wing's broken. I guess I'm going to be like you for the time being." I smiled.
"Did Seto tell you how long it would take it to heal?"
"He said about six weeks."
"That's not too bad. At least you don't need these!" I said, referring to the crutches.
"You're pretty fast on those things. You broken your leg before?"
"Yeah. Lot's of times." I didn't tell him why, but he didn't seem to notice. "Well here we are." I said, and pushed the door to Sky's base open.
We walked to the infirmary. "Hey Ethan! How's Sky doing?" I asked.
"He's not coming out of his coma, but he is moving, so that's a good sign." I looked over at Sky. He turned over. I never noticed how restless of a sleeper he was.
"Do you know of any ways to heal a broken wing faster?" Enderlox asked.
"Let me x-ray it. That'll show me where it broke, and depending on that I'll see what I can do."
Enderlox was x-rayed, and Ethan showed him the results. "It looks like the base of your wing was broken when you hit the ground. The only thing I can do is what Seto has done already." Enderlox sighed. I know if I ever had the ability to fly I'd be pretty bummed if I had to stay grounded for six weeks. "Just go easy on yourself, and everything will heal." I smiled.
"Is there anything I can do?" I asked.
"Not much. Nothing was really that damaged."
"No one was injured?"
"Just you and Adam."
"Strange. They're getting smarter."
"How so?" Ethan wrote.
"If they take out the leaders of the army, then everything will crumble."
"Then what do we do?" Enderlox asked.
"We have to go to the dimension of the squids."
I do good? If you noticed I'm using correct formatting! Yeah!
Seriously though, did I do good? I really wanted to find some way to say one of Deadlox's trademark phrases, and there you go! You'll figure out his thinking behind that in the next chapter, but now I'm out, and later Legends!
