Serena
Flashes of blue and white light. The sensation of being lost and hurled around.
It lasted for a few seconds, but it was intense.
Then, she stood on ground again, dizzy for a moment and feeling someone supporting her elbow before she could fall.
After a while, the world stopped turning around her, and she could finally see where she was.
„Ohh." There were no words to describe the scenery around her. The millions of buildings of Asgard spread before her, all of them golden, magnificent and in a different architecture. Statues, trees, flowers, even a fortress floating in the air. In the middle of it, an almost triangular palace filled out the horizon and the sky was breathtaking. Not only blue, but in shades of orange, pink and violet with what seemed to be two moons hanging between many stars. Thor, Loki and Serena were standing under an archway, and as Serena turned around, she saw she was standing on the beginning of a bridge. A rainbow-colored bridge, leading over the sea and the waterfall at the end of it and then ending abruptly. On this side, the sky was almost black, and there were even more brightly shining stars.
„Do you like it?" Thor asked, smiling softly with a hint of pride. „It's..." she was going to say „beautiful", but the word sounded dull and not fit to the radiance of Asgard. „Breathtaking."
She ended her sentence.
-„Wait until you see Vanaheimr, My Lady." A voice sounded behind her, and Serena turned around.
She recognized the man, already having seem him in her vision with Freya.
White-silver hair, chin lenght. Delicate, beautiful features with a hint of arrogance over his face, blue, almost violet eyes.
„Lord Frey." She answered, not knowing how to greet him properly. She slightly bowed her head and hoped it would be enough.
Frey was escorted by a dozen people, but only one face stood out to Serena.
„My dear daughter." The woman whispered. Again, Freya's face was so familiar to Serena, and the resemblance couldn't be any clearer. The same hair color, the same high cheek bones and full lips. Freya was even more beautiful than Serena had remembered, she had a certain glow coming from her skin which made her this beyond nature gorgeous.
Serena felt almost plump next to her, her skin not that perfect, her hair not that shining, her figure not that flawless. But she figured every woman felt this way next to the goddess of love and beauty. With graceful, light steps Freya stepped forward and hugged Serena, who was enveloped in the smell of spring and fresh air.
Freya released her and turned to the people behind them. „My Lords and Ladies. May I present you Lady Serena Freyasdotter of Vanaheimr"
Frey
She was indeed his sister's daughter, the look on her face as she saw the escort under the archway was too familiar. Fascination and distrust mixed together, as well as the eternal struggle between her want for adventure and her carefulness. With Freya, it was easy to say which side used to win.
Odin had sent Frey and Freya along with the warriors three, Sif, a few guards and other nobles. None of the latter reacted as the girl stared at them with big, widened eyes and whispered his name as she recognized him from her vision. They all looked at Loki, who was clearly in the center of their attention. Which meant hateful and curious stares in his direction. Freya on the other hand had her gaze fixed on her daughter, the halfblood child. For Frey, it had always been clear what his twin sister was thinking, or more precisely feeling. And now that Freya had decided to be an actual mother, there was nothing she wouldn't do to protect that Midgardian girl.
Frey was more than happy to decide about her fate, and he loved the power he held in his hands. Of course, he was going to accept Freya's child as Vanir, but he was careful. It was wiser to pretend he needed time to think about it, to ponder about the decision.
It would make him more credible, and his decision would be more likely accepted by the nobles of Vanaheimr. Simple politics, something Freya didn't understand an ounce of.
-„What are you waiting for, brother? Why didn't you declare her as Vanir?" Freya hissed, tearing Frey aside as the little group walked to the main gate.
-„Trust me, Freya. I know what I'm doing." He only answered briefly, and Freya looked at him with reproachful, passionate eyes. „Trust me." He repeated, hoping Freya would be patient one time.
Prince Loki was muzzled and shackled. He was paler than Frey remembered, but his eyes hat the same mischievous spark that everyone seemed to fear. Loki's hair had grown longer and he had small wounds on his face. Thor looked unchanged, no one even looked to him.
The girl stood close to Loki, not fearful of him at all. Frey was curious what really happened to her.
-„My dear daughter." Freya sighed and hugged her daughter. The group stopped to stare at the fallen Prince of Asgard and began to turn their attention to the two woman in front.
-„My Lords and Ladies. May I present to you my daughter, Serena Freyasdotter of Vanaheimr."
-„Of Vanaheimr not yet." An older Asen Lord added, looking to Frey.
-„Which is only a matter of time." Freya said, her sapphire eyes glancing at Frey now too.
„Indeed. Lady Serena, you certainly need to rest. The ceremony will be tomorrow."
Freya sighed of relief. The acknowledgement was sure now, and there was nothing else Freya seemed to care about.
Serena nodded slowly, astonishment written all over her face.
She knew more than Freya that things wouldn't be done with a simple ceremony. There was still Freya's husband out there, wanting his revenge, and Loki. Loki, the riddle without solution, and unluckily for Serena, she was all entangled in it.
