Okay okay I know the main RWBY Rock AU is supposed to be Ladybug and Freezerburn, but Dash recently started drawing a Rock AU as well and to be honest... I'm totally fine with doing Monochrome with it, so there. Deal with it.

Based mainly off Dash's doodle at post/136510657397. And check through her RWBY Rock tag for more things I wrote allusions to in this tiny drabble.

Disclaimer: I do not own RWBY.

Chapter 29. Hearts That Sing

No one had ever said that being the lead singer in a four-girl's rock band would be easy.

But Weiss was always up to tackle the new challenges and best whatever hurdles the rockstar life threw at her. Auditions, rehearsals, concerts, dances... They were all welcomed obstacles and learning experiences for her, especially when she got to face them with her band.

But there was one single challenge she simply couldn't overcome.

"Ugh. I don't believe this..."

Presently, she sat alone in their apartment, slumped on the couch, dressed in loose sleepwear clothes and with her hair down in a white mess of a waterfall. Tissues littered the coffee table in front of her, along with several bottles of pills and cough syrup.

Yes, she could easily train her voice to hit every high note imaginable and fathomable to the human or Faunus ear.

Yes, she could sing in such a way that she could make grown men cry, or young girls swoon.

Yes, she could sing number after number at full volume and never lose her voice or let it crack or croak.

But when it came to tiny, microscopic germs and bacteria, she didn't stand a chance.

While the others were at rehearsal for the evening, Weiss had been forced to stay at home and try to recover from her cold. She'd promised her band that she'd be better before their scheduled concert next week, and had done all she could tonight to fend off the sneezes and coughs.

She knew she could knock out this cold in just a few days' time.

But the process of doing so was absolutely miserable.

She huddled herself up on the couch, muttering under her breath as she was forced to reach for yet another tissue. The waste bin at her feet was overflowing now, and the very sight of it disgusted her.

She hated being sick, but even more so than that, she hated being sick alone.

She couldn't even text the others, lest she disturb them at rehearsal.

All she could do was glare at the television and then at the clock, wondering why they were two minutes and thirty four seconds late in getting back.

She blew her nose again, tossed the tissue away, pushed another glob of hand-sanitizer onto her palms and slouched back against the couch once more.

"Ugh where are those morons...?"

She was getting worried.

Or rather, just excessively lonely.

When the door clicked not a minute later, Weiss perked up and peeked over the couch. A familiar trio paraded in.

"Whew!" Ruby exclaimed. "What a rehearsal! I'm gonna hit the showers!"

"I'm gonna hit the hay," Yang announced.

Right after the blonde sauntered in, Blake came hurrying after, bound straight for the couch.

"Weiss!" She hurried over to her girlfriend's side and sat down, wrapping Weiss up in her arms and pulling her into a tight embrace.

Weiss sighed in relief to feel her close again and nuzzled into her shoulder.

"You're late."

"Sorry."

Blake let out an apologetic purr, rubbing her hands all up and down the girl's back.

Yang and Ruby paused just behind the couch.

"How're ya feeling, Weiss?" Ruby asked. "Think you'll be better by next week?"

"I'll be fine."

"Oh yeah," Yang chuckled. "We know Weiss'll be okay. It's Blake I'm worried about. She was spacing out so much tonight cuz she kept thinkin' about you, princess~"

Weiss pulled back slightly and peered curiously up into golden eyes.

"Blake? Is that true?"

Her Faunus ears flicked in embarrassment.

"Yeah... I got yelled at..."

"Like a lovesick puppy~" Yang added helpfully.

Blake glared at her.

Ruby quickly stepped in between them.

"But it's okay now! We're back and you can take care of Weiss, okay Blake? Yang weren't you gonna sleep?"

As Ruby tactfully pushed her big sister out of the room, Blake and Weiss took the chance to savor their privacy.

Blake's ears were still drooping as she looked Weiss over.

"Are you feeling any better? Did you take your medicine?"

"I did," Weiss promised. "Don't worry. I'm just fine, Blake. But I am flattered that you were thinking about me enough to get yelled at in rehearsal."

Blake chuckled sheepishly as she got comfortable on the couch, pulling Weiss into her lap.

"It was difficult to practice without you singing with us."

"I'll be better in a day or two."

"That's good to hear."

Blake dipped herself down to nuzzle Weiss' nose. Weiss nuzzled back affectionately, but had to quickly pull away in order not to sneeze on her girlfriend. She groaned, and Blake kissed her cheek as she leaned forward to grab her another tissue.

Weiss blew her nose and discarded the tissue, then sanitized her hands once again. She turned back to Blake and sniffled.

"Don't kiss me. The last thing we need is you getting sick next."

"Oh, I can still kiss you," she replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Blake pecked her warm forehead, her creased brow, her red nose, then her flushed cheeks in turn, working her way down to Weiss' sore throat. She kissed her neck, then went down lower to her collar, kissing the white porcelain skin that concealed her congestion.

Weiss sighed, her eyelids fluttering closed all too easily. Blake's lips pressed softly over her heartbeat, then traveled up the pulse in her neck to rest on her scarred cheek for a moment. She kissed her temples, then both of her eyelids, coaxing Weiss to close them.

"Just rest," Blake purred. "You'll feel better tomorrow. Promise."

Weiss had been waiting for them to come back all evening, and her sickness added to her listlessness. She could only nod and comply, leaning forward onto Blake's chest.

She cushioned her chin on her girlfriend's shoulder as Blake continued to kiss her wherever she could, her chest rumbling a purr all the while. She ran her hands up and down over Weiss' back, cradling her in her lap, playing with her hair.

It had been a bit of a chilly night outside, so Blake was more than thankful to use Weiss as her blanket, and to be a pillow for her.

Weiss hugged her loosely, sighing again. When a sudden cough ran through her, Blake felt her jolt. Her response was to hold Weiss more closely, to map more patterns over her back, over the clothes that hid the tattoos she'd never let anyone else see, and to kiss her cheek again.

"Easy..." she soothed. "Just rest."

Weiss exhaled slowly and sniffled before using her weary voice to croak a single request.

"Sing for me, Blake..."

The Faunus girl blushed. That was what Weiss often asked of her whenever she was feeling exhausted or upset.

Blake couldn't sing very well. She was nothing compared to Weiss, and it always made her bashful to think Weiss actually liked to hear her singing voice.

But she'd do anything to make her feel better.

So she sang for her, her voice soft and whispering with just a hint of a musical tune to it. Her purr interrupted her a few times, but Weiss didn't mind.

Blake's voice in her ear, the soothing vibrations of her purr in her neck, and her familiar warmth and scent filling her chest and lungs all made the perfect combination to lull Weiss to sleep in minutes.

Blake only sang for as long as she needed to, until she could feel Weiss' heartbeat slow and her raspy breathing even out.

She kept her there, holding her against her chest.

And she realized a little too late that she probably should have showered and used the bathroom before doing all of this.

But she shrugged it off. She could do that in the morning.

For now, Blake opted to close her eyes and spend the night with Weiss' heart singing over hers.

A/N: Just a small, tiny fic because I saw her cute art and again got an idea I simply couldn't ignore. I get inspired to write something for just about all of Dash's doodles, she's so amazing~
