FORGET EVERYTHING I'VE SAID ABOUT NEVER POSTING A CHAPTER BELOW 1000 WORDS!

In short, I forgot to write this into the last chapter, and it can't go in the same chapter as the next, because then it wouldn't make any sense.

Vialovesbooks: Thank-you for your honesty! And I'm sort of taking this like they're in a branch of police-y-ness. So if the police ran into them dismantling the clockwork creatures, they wouldn't arrest them or anything. How about I just say that 'shadowhunters' were before police, so the police answer to them? That works!

TaleOfTwoCities: Aha, I'd like to think that, but it still was kinda sucky. But if you enjoyed it, then that's all that matters! I aim to please after all! (Unless I don't like you. Then you can f*** off). Jem's little protective side over Tessa breaks in this mini-chapter, but of course, it's Jem, so it returns later on. Will actually wasn't present due to the fact he's currently breaking up with Tessa. Sort of. You'll see what I mean soon.

Guest: Thanks! There's a Jessa kiss scene soon, so there's something you may like! I decided on updates weekly!

Dancerox1997: I read this over and over again. First off; it was a long review, and those itself are amazing. Secondly: thank-you so much. Your 'firstly' literally made tears come to my eyes. I rely so heavily on positives because even the smallest of negatives can… I won't ramble. I can't ramble, lest I get effected by what I'm writing. To your 'secondly', I am doing that. I'll be updating again today, so it equals a long chapter. To your 'thirdly', my ways are: three coffees for a humour chapter, a cup of tea for a suspense-y chapter or a slightly dark one, and no coffee for almost a whole week for the break-ups and deaths and everything. Try it, it works! And if you ever do publish a book (and I hope you do 'cause I'll be the first to buy it), you actually kind of do know my real name due to a certain Jagnus fanart email! …My real name's boring, essentially. It's why I go by SilverCarstairs.

Dancerox1997 (2): Haha, thanks. That made me laugh!

Guest: Thanks so much! I'm glad you haven't lost interest in this story!

TessaElsaHerondale: To see that I made the list beside those two really brightened my day. Thank-you so so much! And I'll be updating some other stories today, I hope! Also, I will be updating once a week!

Emikat511: Thanks! I like A/N's, because that's how I get to communicate with you guys and truly express myself! And also thanks!

Guest14: *applauds* You, my dear friend, are an example to so many others. YOU ADMITTED IT WAS YOU! Fuck the past, you are the embodiment of courage! And also, I didn't particularly take your review negatively. When I first read it, the prospect of having to update was miles away, and it did annoy me a little. But when I read it again, I shared your opinion. If you read a fanfic and it's not updated in a while, then you tell them to hurry the fuck up already. And my A/N to you wasn't a lie. You have inspired a lot for this story. You made me realise that because I make a mistake doesn't mean I should deprive others of something they wanted. So, once again, thank-you!

Fify: Good luck with all the tidying, thank-you, and, of course, SCREW THE CAPITOL! (Also, I'll do that with the updates)

Personorwhatever: Thanks so much! As for the Jessa, it's more like 'just down the highway, turn left at the Wessa break-up, forwards another few chapters, accidental kiss scene, and then you have reached your destination!'

Guest: Thanks for everything. And honestly, don't worry about not reviewing! As long as you read and enjoy the content, that's all that matters!

Arya: Thanks! I feel like the caps-lock added a lot of emphasising! I have to listen now, right? Also, how do you pronounce your FF name? Are-Yah? Ear-ah? I-ra? I don't know. It's puzzled me for so long!

Aya: Thanks so much! XD

William Carstairs: If I am your inspiration, then your name is mine. Am I sensing a fellow Heronstairs fan?

You know it's awkward when the A/N is longer than the actual chapter. Oh well!

Despite Jem's defeated statement earlier, silence was easy among the two of them, and the atmosphere was calm.

It was one of the reasons Tessa liked Jem. He was so easy to be around, you could tell him everything you knew or nothing at all and either way; he wouldn't judge you. It was hard to find a friend like that.

But is he just a friend? A snide voice whispered in her head. You remember what Isabelle said. And you definitely want it to be something more.

Tessa squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head slightly to rid herself of the thoughts, opening her eyes and allowing them to settle on the view. The towering flats, the pavements carpeted with litter, walls plastered in spray paint: some of it artwork, some of it rude messages.

The city lights are extra bright

They shine for us tonight

The streets are so alive right now

I freaking love this town

The song that floated through her mind distracted her, causing her to look deeper into the city— a city which had been repetitively crowned London's worst place to live in.

But in all, it didn't look so bad. You'd look at the towering rooms in the sky and realise that to some people; they were home.

It's so good, pure positive vibes

For the most part everybody's just tryna live their lives

We're not afraid to die, only the strong survive

You don't know if you don't try, the stakes are high

And it's the city where I earned my crown

God knows that I love this town

You get a few bad people, and they ruin it for everyone. It'd always been like that. In class, the few rebels would make the whole class stay in at recess. Here, it was the same. Not everyone did drugs, stole and murdered. For most people, it was a home. And people were proud to live there.

Her thoughts were broken by a slight fluttering against her hand. Tessa moved down to brush it out of the way, annoyed to be broken out of her epiphany, when she froze. It was a small packet, an empty resealable one, patterned with marijuana leaves on the outside.

And just like that, her earlier thoughts were gone, as she flicked it down off the fire escape and onto the already littered road below them.

It confused her why anyone would ever take drugs.

"Jem?" She asked curiously.

His lips quirked up at the corners and he turned his head to face her.

"What's it like?" She asked, watching as his eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion.

"..." He opened his mouth, but then closed it. "You may need to elaborate." He told her.

Tessa glanced at the spot the packet had fallen. She'd never seen the appeal before, there must be a positive to taking drugs; otherwise people wouldn't take them in the first place. "What's it like to be high?"

The small smile playing about Jem's lips dropped, his eyes turning cold and black as his jaw set. "We should be going." He told her. "I'll call you cab– I think I'll walk back." He paused. "Alone." With what looked like an effortless jump, he vaulted over the railing, landing like a cat on the pavement outside the flat. He bowed his head slightly, his figure drooping as if defeated, before his posture snapped back to its stiff, ruler like way, and he whipped his phone out, already calling a taxi for Tessa.

Tessa slowly placed her hand to her clockwork pendant about her neck and began to descend the fire escape, not fancying her chances of jumping.

She'd never seen Jem look so cold– or so afraid.

Firstly: I've visited Tottenham before to visit family, and I basically thought all of the above, and then I saw the packet on the pavement. So yeah, taking inspiration from my personal life.

Secondly: Don't fear! I'm updating later today with a longer chapter! It's just, this part didn't fit with the later bit, so I had to separate it!
