This is so frustrating! I have no idea what is attacking students! I'm not used to not knowing. I'm smart. A child freaking prodigy! I could easily out smart a fifth year, but this has me completely in the dark. The only lead I have is the victims themselfs and Granger being the most recent one, I believe its time I payed her a visit. I will find out whats happening, I will stop any other students from being attacked and I wipe that infuriatingly smug look off a certain potions professors face.

Valentine walked silently through the dim corridors only lite by the setting sun, even her foot steps soundless. As she reached the door to the hospital wing she paused, listening at the door. When she found only silence she opened the door and shut it behind her. There were three beds occupied that night. All victims of the mysterious attacks.

Valentine wondered over to the bed side of a small first year Gryffindor, pulling the bed curtains aside. She felt a spike of guilt shoot through her stomach, she quickly looked away from the boy.

Remember why your here, Valentine. Now is not the time to grow soft.

Moving over to the bed taken by Hermione Granger, Valentine looked down at the stiff girl though the bed curtains. She noticed a hand held mirror on the bed side table and picked it up to investigate closer.

Perhaps she had it with her? But why?

Placing the mirror back down on the table she turned to the girl who layed completely still, eyes wide and blank, one hand stretched out before her.

If she was holding the mirror in that hand...and she was found near the library...

Valentines eyes moved down to the girls other hand. Reaching out, Valentine touched the girls skin, almost expecting it to be cold, but feeling the warmth of a living person instead. In the palm of the girls hand Valentine felt the presences of crinkled paper. Carefully removing the paper, Valentines bright eyes squinted, trying to read the words in the dim light that streamed though the window and then widened as she actually consumed the contents.

"Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years at a time...Instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye...Spiders flee before it."

The monster...the monster in the chamber is the basilisk! And the voice! The voice that Potter heard in Lockharts office...Its all making sense...The mirror and the water on the floor that night...And since none of the other students looked it directly in the eye, they didn't die, they were just petrified.

Valentine looked back down at the paper, to see that the other girl had written the word 'Pipes' on the corner of the page.

Thats how the basilisk has moving around undetected, thats why we haven't found a trace of it. Thank you Granger, you just made my day. I have to tell Dumbledore of this immediately.

Suddenly at the sound of footsteps Valentine froze, waiting. A millisecond later, she threw the page back down on the bed.

Crap.

The door handle turned and Valentine was on her knees, sliding her way under the bed of the petrified Hermione.

"We'll be in huge trouble if anyone finds us out this close to curfew." A familiar voice said softly, a sort of panic in his voice.

"Clam down, Ron."

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley? They must be here to visit Hermione.

The two Gryffindor boys moved over the bed, pushing aside the curtains. Potter moved around to the bed side table, Valentine watched there feet and tried to lower her breath. Ron pulled a chair to the girls beside and sat down.

"I wish you were here, Hermione. We need you. Now more than ever." Harry said.

Then Valentine heard soft rustling and knew Harry must have found the paper.

"What's that?"

"Ron...This is why Hermione was in the library the day she was attacked." Harry said after several seconds of silence. "Come on."

Two boys got to there feet and quickly left the room.

Letting out a heavy breath, Valentine pulled herself out from under the bed.

They took the page. Dammit. Why can't they keep they're noses out of these sort of things? Arg. I've got to get out of here.

Moving quickly though the corridors Valentine turned a corner and was met with a wall dripping with blood.

No. No, no, no, no ,no. This is not happening. Oh, god. McGonagalls office is the closest to here. This is going to be grossly out of character. I just to it is.

Valentine rapped her knuckles against the door loudly, to which the door opened only seconds after.

"Miss Lestrange." McGonagall, still dressed in her day robes, looked down at the girl with a questioning stare. "Do you have any idea how late it is young lady? And how dangerous-"

"Thats why I'm here." Valentine cut her short coldly. "Or should I keep the latest message from the Heir Of Slytherin a secret?"

"What on earth are you talking about?"

"Second-floor corridor." Valentine smirked softly. "You might want to do a head count of the all the muggle born students, professor. The females in particular."

McGonagalls eyes widened and she rushed past Valentine, heading directly for the second-floor corridor.

"Come along, Miss Lestrange! Its not safe for you to be alone."

More like your suspicious of me. That is to be expected. Can't image I looked to sad about disappearing muggle borns. Hmm. That wasn't nearly out of character as I thought.

-Pretending to Hate-

"All students are to return to their house dormitories at once. All teachers to the second-floor corridor immediately." McGonagalls voice stretched to all corners of the school, as she pressed the tip of her wand into flesh of her neck. Her voice not trembling in the slightest, despite running along the corridor, Valentine and the other teachers in tow.

"As you can see, the Heir of Slytherin has left another message." McGonagall began as the teacher came to a stop. "Our worst fear has been realized. A student has been taken by the monster into the Chamber itself. The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."

The teachers looked around at one another, clueless on what to do.

And teachers are meant to be the smart ones.

"So sorry. Dozed off. What have I missed?" Lockhart jogged leisurely towards the teachers.

Speaking of stupid teachers...

"A girl has been snatched by the monster, Lockhart. Your moment has come at last." Said Snape.

"My moment?" Lockhart said, a deer in the head lights.

"Weren't you saying just last night that you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is?"

Valentine sniggered slightly at the potions professors words.

"That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy." McGonagall said. "Your skills, after all, are legend."

Valentine chuckled again, this time louder. Earning a pointed look from every head of staff.

"Very well. I'll just be in my office getting...getting ready." Lockhart said confidently, turning away from the group and leaving down the hall.

"Miss Lestrange, I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention." McGonagall said, almost awkwardly, all eyes turning on Valentine.

"...Hmm? Sorry?" Valentine looked up at the professors as if she hadn't been listening.

"What were you doing out after curfew, Lestrange?" Snape hissed.

"Its wasn't after curfew when I was heading back to the common room."

"Where were you before that?" Professor Flitwick asked suspiciously.

"Using the lavatories, if you must know professor." Valentine rolled her eyes.

Professor Flitwick looked away embarrassed, Snape giving a frustrated sigh.

"Who is it that the monster's taken, Minerva?" Asked Madam Pomfrey softly.

"Ginny Weasley."

The teachers quickly dispersed, Snape grabbing Valentines arm.

"I will escort you to the Slytherin common room." Then he growled as the teachers left ear shot. "And you will stay there."

Snape then proceeded to drag her down the hall.

"Your not seriously relying on Lockhart, are you?" Valentine sneered, yanking her arm from his grip and walking along aside him.

"Don't be stupid. Of course not." He hissed.

"What are we going to do? About Ginny Weasley? She could be attacked by the basilisk."

"The what?" The professor froze in his tracks.

"The basilisk. Its the monster that lives within the chamber and the monster that had been attacking muggle borns."

"How did you come across this information?"

"You can thank Hermione Granger for this one. I found a page on the basilisk in her hand. I haven't got time to explain everything, but believe me all the dots connect." Valentine explained.

"I'll inform Dumbledore immediately and you will return to your dorm."

"No. Harry Potter also knows about the basilisk, if he attempts to rescue Ginny Weasley then that puts his in life in danger. Which, I believe is in my job description." Valentine said defiantly.

"You are a last resort." Snape sneered down at her. "Your presence will be missed, Lestrange. You will go the common room and I will handle this."

Valentine sighs in defeat, running her fingers though her hair, feeling the on coming sensation of a head ache.

"Fine. Fine. But if Harry Potter dies, it will be on your head." Valentine stared up at him, face an emotionless mask, her words mirroring the ones he'd thrown at her not to long ago.

The professor did nothing but nod stoically and march on down the hall.

Don't do anything stupid, Potter. Ha. Who I am kidding. Of course he will.
