SUMMARY:
KENSI & Deeks are hanging out on another Friday after work.
"Tick tock! Tick tock! Goes Kensalina's biological clock," Deeks teased with a laugh, from the corner of the couch he was sitting on. "Oh, my God, Deeks...I swear you're the one with the biological clock running out!" Kensi yelled glaring at him.
CHAPTER 29: KENSI TALKS TO HER MOM…
THE BULLPEN…
Sam and Callen looked up as Kensi walked into the Bullpen. She stopped at her desk, grabbed her phone and walked away.
At the same time Marty sat down at his desk with a huge grin on his face.
"You want to tell us what's going on, Deeks?" Callen asked.
"I just suggested to Kensi that she can go visit her mom tonight…" Marty replied as his smile faltered and he nervously looked over at Kensi to make sure she was out of earshot.
"That doesn't explain why you seem so happy." Callen pointed out.
"I've known from the moment that I met Kensi that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. So tonight while Kensi is spending time with her mom…I'm going to go buy a ring so I can ask her to marry me." Marty explained once again looking over at Kensi.
"You're going to buy an engagement ring…" Callen began in shock. "And ask Kensi Marie Blye to marry you?" Sam finished both of them shocked at what they had just heard.
"Well, I'm not dating any other women named, Kensi." Marty joked.
"Just remember what we told you about hurting her." Callen warned. "I don't plan on hurting Kensi. I-I love her and the baby that we're about to have." Marty confessed.
"Marriage is a serious step, Deeks." Sam reminded Marty. "I know, but Kensi and I are already pretty much living together and having a baby…that's just as serious." Marty replied.
"What are you three talking about?" Kensi asked walking back into the Bullpen.
"It's nothing, Fern." Marty lied. "Don't lie to me, Marty. What were you talking about?" Kensi repeated glaring at him. "I was telling Sam and Callen about a surprise I have in store for you, okay? Don't ask what it is…because I'm not going to tell you. Want a Twinkie?" Marty asked holding one up and Kensi snatched it from him, tore off the wrapping and took a bite.
As Kensi ate the Twinkie she silently vowed to find out a way to make Marty tell her what the surprise was…one way or another.
"Dessert before lunch," Sam questioned and Kensi turned her glare toward him.
"No, what I gave Kensi was a distract…ow, really?" Marty asked rubbing his shoulder where Kensi had just punched him.
Kensi swallowed the last bite of the Twinkie and then responded.
"Yes, really, I hit you because you should know by now not to use food like that and I will not give up until you tell me what I want to know." Kensi replied, before walking over to her desk, sitting down and starting on her lunch.
LATER IN THE AFTERNOON…
It was almost the end of the day and it seemed they were doomed to finish the day with paperwork.
Though Kensi loved her work, she just couldn't concentrate and was currently lost in her thoughts of what the future could bring as she laid one hand on her abdomen.
Marty was getting bored with trying to work on his own paperwork, Callen was leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed and Sam seemed to be the only one getting any work done.
Marty let out a sigh and looked at Kensi with a smile.
"Hey, Kensi…"
Marty called, but she did not answer.
"…Kensi!" Marty called again and this time Kensi looked at him. "What?" Kensi asked. "How about a break," Marty suggested.
At Marty's suggestion Sam looked up from his almost complete paperwork and Callen opened his eyes.
"How about we all take a break?" Callen suggested. "You've already been taking a long break, G." Sam said with a smile. "I was just closing my eyes for a minute." Callen replied.
"More like the last fifteen." Sam shot back. "I think Deeks idea of a break would be a good idea and help us relax." Callen said before getting up and heading for the gym.
THE END OF THE WORK DAY…
After they had taken a break, the day seemed to move a little faster.
"So do you want me to drop you off at your mom's house or take you home so you can drive yourself?" Marty asked as they gathered their things. "Just drop me off at my mom's house and I'll see if she can give me a ride home later." Kensi said as they walked out of the Bullpen.
OUTSIDE…
Once they reached Kensi's SRX Kensi handed Marty the keys and got into the passenger's seat.
"You okay?" Marty asked as he got into the driver's seat. "Yeah, I'm good, just a little tired. So what do you plan to do while I'm at my mom's tonight?" Kensi asked.
"Work on the surprise I have for in mind for you and before you ask I am not going to tell you what it is." Marty replied with a grin.
"Oh, so you're not going to clean the house and spend time with Monty?" Kensi shot back with a smile of her own. "After I get your surprise ready I will and remind me again why I am cleaning your house." Marty said glancing over at her.
"Because you offered and besides you have been living with me for the past few days. We need to start looking for a house, so we can move in and get settled before the baby comes." Kensi reminded him as they pulled up in front of Julia's house.
"I know and we will. I'll see you later, Kensalina." Marty promised and leaned over to give her what started to be a gentle kiss, but it wasn't long before it became more passionate.
After a minute they both pulled back breathless.
"I-I guess I better go let my mom know that I'm here." Kensi said reaching for the handle to open the door.
"I love you, Kensi and I hope you never forget that." Marty told her and Kensi looked at him in confusion. "What makes you think I would forget that you love me, Marty?" Kensi asked worried. "Nothing, I just want you to know how much I love you." Marty told her.
"Does this have something to do with what you, Callen and Sam were talking about?" Kensi asked. "Ah-ah, I already told you that I am not going to tell you what the surprise is. You will just have to wait and find out." Marty told her and Kensi rolled her eyes, before finally getting out of the car.
"I'll see you later, Marty." Kensi said. "Bye Kens." Marty called as Kensi closed the door and headed up the walk to her mother's house.
Kensi knocked and it wasn't long before the door opened revealing Julia Feldman.
"Hi, honey, are you okay? You sounded upset when you called earlier." Julia said stepping back to let Kensi in.
Then the two made their way to the living room.
THE LIVING ROOM…
"I keep having nightmares and in every nightmare…Marty either leaves me for some reason or he gets killed, because I'm stuck on desk duty and can't watch his back." Kensi confessed as she felt tears sting her eyes again.
"I remember meeting Agents Callen and Hanna, I know you can't watch his back like you want right now, but I am sure they will not let anything happen to Marty." Julia tied to reassure her daughter.
"There are no guarantees, mom, one day Marty could go out in the field, get separated from the team somehow and get killed…then I would have to raise baby Ray on my own." Kensi said as the tears started to fall.
"Right now you are both doing your jobs, but you are working two jobs, Kensi…" Julia said and at first Kensi was confused, until she realized what her mother was talking about.
"A Federal Agent and being pregnant," Kensi asked and Julia nodded. "By staying on desk duty you are keeping the baby safe, while Marty and the rest of your co-workers go chase down the bad guys on the street." Julia said and Kensi thought about what her mother told her for a moment.
"It's still hard. Marty also told me I will be a good mom, but that's something else that scares me. I'm not even sure I'm ready to be a mom and then the other part of me can't wait to meet, Ray." Kensi confessed.
"Ray?" Julia asked in confusion. "Marty and I decided to call the baby Ray for now, since we don't know if Ray is a boy or girl yet. We couldn't just keep saying 'it' or 'the baby', so Marty came up with the name Ray." Kensi explained.
"How about we go eat dinner?" Julia suggested and it was then that Kensi's stomach gave a loud growl making Kensi and her mother laugh.
So Julia and Kensi headed for the kitchen to eat the dinner Julia had prepared and kept warm in the oven.
"Thanks for listening to me, mom." Kensi said as they reached the kitchen.
