New Year's Eve – England

. . . . Fatherhood seemed to mature Ivan so well. He can still be childish but that's really cute about him. Anyway, have you thought of anything to give to Gilbert's birthday yet? You said on your last letter about Maple syrup. What is that really?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Mathilda!

PS: Say Happy birthday to Gilbert for JinHuang, Ivan and me.

Yours truly,

Yue

Yue reread her written letter to Mathilda a second time before deciding its perfect and sealed it in an envelope. She turned around from her desk and smiled when Ivan walked into their room.

"Finish with your letter?" He gave her a peck before going to see their son on the cot.

"Yes. I don't know if the letter will arrived on time for Gilbert's birthday though. Winter can be hard for the postal service." She walked toward to her husband and smiled when she saw JinHuang smiling up at them.

"He is starting to look a lot like you." Yue whispered so softly but Ivan heard it and took pride in it.

The door knocked and Ivan opened it to see the maid, caring warm water coming in to take JinHuang for a bath so that both his parents can prepare for dinner. Yue happily gave her son but once JinHuang noticed the unfamiliar face of the maid, he started crying.

"Maybe I should give him a bath instead. It wouldn't take that long." Yue plead as the maid tried to calm him down.

"If that will makes you feel better, then I'm alright with it." Ivan kissed Yue's forehead before heading out of the room to leave the ladies prepare the bath for his son.

The aroma of freshly bake cookies filled the dining hall.

A small boy, with a mission on his brilliant mind, sneakily looks around the room to see it deserted. Smiling, he tipped toed to the large long table and stretch his arms up to get his prized.

"There you are." Hong jerked in surprised as suddenly being lift up from the ground. He turned to see his beaming mother's face.

"Hong, be a dear and call your sister and Ivan down for dinner." YueMei said sweetly to her youngest child while putting him down towards the door. True, dinner wasn't ready but she wanted to distract Hong from grabbing the freshly baked cookies from table. And it seems like scolding him wasn't working for him, so she was trying a new tactic of making him occupied.

Scowling from his failed mission, he stomped up the stairs and toward his sister's room. Plotting his new mission in mind, he didn't notice someone in front of him until he collided with a strong pair of long legs and tumble back.

"Oh, sorry Hong." Hong rubbed his nose from the impact and looked up at his Russian brother-in-law with a glare. "Here," Ivan bended a little and extended his hand for the fallen boy. Embarrass as being knock down so easily, he swatted the offering hand away and stood up as tall as he can. He barely reaches his waist and Ivan's smiling face felt more humiliating. "What can I do for you Hong?"

Puffing his frustration and crossing his arms, Hong look at the floor while mumbling.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that."

A squeal came from the room that startled both the boys outside and Ivan quickly opened the door. Curious, Hong peak inside his sister's room and saw that both the house maid and Yue wet from the waist up.

"What happened?" Ivan inquired and Hong looked up to see him smirking.

Yue sighed before taking the happy baby out of the basin. "JinHuang learned that splashing around his tub was fun." Ivan walked toward them with large towel in hand and wrapped it around his son.

"We can take it from here, thank you." Yue said to the maid and she curtsied and before leaving, smiled at Hong by the entrance.

Hong observed the happy couple and their baby with interest. True, he always sees JinHaung each day but he never really saw him interact besides just looking at him in his cot.

"Hong, come in. Don't be shy." Yue said when she saw her little brother at the door. Hong shyly walk into the room and saw that JinHuang was looking at him as his father put his clothes on him.

"Why is he staring at me?" Yue turned to Hong and smiled when she saw that her son and Hong were on a staring contest.

"He is just curious as who you are." Ivan answered and gesture for Yue to change out of her wet clothes.

"I saw him everyday, he should know me by now." Hong's thick eyebrows twitched and JinHuang smiled.

"True, but now, he is starting to see more clearly who everyone is." Ivan patted the couch beside him and Hong went to sit there. "What to hold him?" Hong's amber eyes widen with excitement. He never hold a baby before.

"Just support his head, like this. Yes, good." Hong was amazed by how soft and small the baby was. JinHuang's chubby cheeks turned fuller when he opened his toothless mouth into a grin. Swing his tiny arms around, he tried to grabbed something Hong didn't know about. But seeing that Ivan was helping him support the baby on his lap, he took his other hand and gives his index finger for the baby to grab.

JinHuang blurt out something gibberish and put Hong's finger into his wet mouth.

"Yuck!" Hong whined but didn't really take his finger away from the now suckling baby. Ivan laughed and called Yue that their son was hungry, which reminded Hong why he was really here.

"Mama said that dinner is ready."

January – Beilschmidt Estate.

Mathilda puffed in annoyance as she tried again to button the white breeches she used to wear back in the States.

"Its no used Kuma. I have gotten fat." The white bear stared at his master in puzzlement. Mathilda went to the mirror in her room and frowned when she saw her used to be slim figure grew double in size since getting pregnant. Even her smooth completion was turning a bit odd, and when she lifts her shirt up, there was a light tint of brown line of skin dividing her growing belly in half. Plus, she didn't know that she has freckles until now when she went to take a closer look on the mirror.

She cupped baby bump and sighed as the baby inside kicked.

A fast thumps on the door and then followed her sister's loud voice, "Maddie! Are you done?" Then the door opened and Amelia came barging into the room. Seeing her sister still in nothing but a shirt stopped Amelia short.

"Why are you still half naked?" Mathilda throw her breeches on the bed and sighed.

"I'm getting fat." Mathilda moaned and went to her trunk to get a green maternity dress.

"You're not fat. You're just pregnant." Amelia chirped while helping her sister into her dress. Amelia, was wearing her breeches and shirt like back in the days while they have things to accomplish. The twins found out that wearing pants are much more accommodating while helping in the orphanage or helping around their house. This time, they had a huge plan to throw a surprise birthday party for Gilbert.

"Thanks for stating the obvious." Mathilda went to get her boots and was surprised when Amelia gripped her arm suddenly.

"This is something not to be mourn for, Maddie." Amelia had a serious look in her usual cheery face and it had taken Mathilda back. "Be a proud mama, Maddie. Sure, you did gain a few pounds but that is nothing when you hold your baby later."

Her seriousness shocked Mathilda but it did leave something in her that she was sure going to feel guilty why she even though bad of herself.

"Is Gilbert giving you a hard time?" Amelia let her go while she put her shoes on.

"What? No! He is actually very fond of the extra fat I gain."

"Then why do you feel lousy of yourself?" Amelia helped her sister tie her smooth wavy hair in bun, as the other twin played with a brush on the vanity table.

"I don't know. I don't really much care what I wear but now. . . " Mathilda grew silent and Amelia waited a few minutes before sitting beside her on the chair. "Its just that, I never thought I would feel this sad and mad when I realized I can't wear pants anymore." Amelia then turned to the disregarded pants on the bed and raised her brows at her sister.

"Really? But you weren't this sad when you ordered those maternity dresses a few months ago." Mathilda sighed and pouted more.

"It's different. Back then, I hated our corset, so I'm happy to stop wearing them. I always like breeches. They can give you freedom not like those full body dresses." Amelia nodded in agreement with the pants giving much more freedom. "Maybe asking Aldrick to call for the painter was a bad idea."

"Oh I'm sure Gilbert will be thrilled to know that you arranged for a portrait." Amelia cooed her sister.

"Yes, that was before I feel like crap."

"Maddie, don't be a sour sport. I'm positive that the painter Aldrick arranged will be able to get your best features."

"Yeah, faking it like most painters now a days." Mathila barked.

"What has gotten into you? You feeling alright?" Amelia knows that being pregnant can cause mood swings. Yue had warned her before to take extra careful when Mathilda will show sign of it. And it looks like this was it. She did not like it one bit.

"No. I'm fat and I don't think I can sit still for three hours for a painter to immortalize me in my most horrid form." Amelia stood still when Mathilda's voice grew louder. "I feel heavy, my back hurts and I'm always gassy now a day. I even felt my hurt pumping and squeezing me that I can't even breathe sometimes. Being pregnant sucks!"

Amelia gasped and took her sister's hands into hers. "Mathilda Willa Jones! That's really mean of you to say." Mathilda blushed in embarrassment. Her frustration on not being able to wear her favorite pants has caused her to saying something bad to something that is sacred and pure.

"I'm sorry. I'm just tired and being irrational." Amelia patted her hand softly and smiled sweetly at her.

"It's not every day I see my cool and collected sister throw a tantrum. If you can say that as a tantrum." Mathilda smiled and pushed her sister lightly off the chair.

"Yes, compared to your tantrums, mine is still very timid. And you are wrong." Amelia stopped smiling and nervously waiting for Mathilda to explode again.

"Its Mathilda Willa J. Beilschmidt." Upon understanding her mistake, Amelia laughed her boisterous laughed and Mathilda followed suit after.

"What am I going to do without you?" Mathilda said and Amelia gave her her signature smirk.

"Why, you'll be terrorizing all of Prussia with your hidden demon. But since I'm the hero, I'll always save you from your dark side." Mathilda giggled and both girls turned to the door when Arthur called them to get down to the kitchen for help.

^J^

"Tell me again why are we making a cake?" Amelia inquired as she mixed the batter of butter, flour, eggs and sugar in a large bowl. Arthur was helping chopped chocolate bars to make it finely as possible on the other side of the kitchen island. Mathilda was seated in front of her sister reading each ingredients and directions for making the cake with sheer concentration. It was written in German, so her mind was processing everything in hyper drive.

"I read in a book that said Germans celebrates birthdays with a cake presented for the celebrant for good luck." Mathilda frowned at the unknown word and went to one of the cooks that were preparing the rest of their meals for the feast later, for a translation.

"If that's the case, I'm happy to adopt that tradition on our next birthday." Amelia giggled.

"I'm starting to think that the Germans are rubbing in on you love." Arthur joked and was given a smirk from his wife.

"Of course not. I'm an American through and through. I just like the sound of having more sweets for the celebration." And something popped in Amelia's mind. "We should add candles on it too. Like the Christmas tree, it would be wonderful!" Her enthusiasm wasn't missed and Mathilda kind of like that idea. It would make the whole thing much more special.

"Excuse me," A sweet voice came through the kitchen that causes the three blonds to look at the doorway to see Felicia holding a hand full of fresh lilies. "Senior Antonio gave me the permission to pick some flowers for the occasion and I was wondering if you will like me to decorate the hall with them?"

Mathilda smiled. She had been the one that planned this whole 'surprise birthday party' for Gilbert and she didn't expect that besides her family members will be helping her. Francis assured her the other day that he and Antonio will distract Gilbert on his birthday so that they can prepare with ease. Though she did told the rest of the household residences and guests to keep it a secret from Gilbert, but seeing as Felicia wanted to help brought pure joy inside Mathilda.

"That will be lovely Felicia. Please do what you see fit." Mathilda barely control her voice from the emotion she was filling and luckily for her Felicia didn't noticed and just squeal in delight.

"Grazie! I'll get Luddy and Lovi to help me with the rest of the decorations." Then the bubbly Italia took off, living a sweet aroma behind.

"That's really nice of them." Arthur whispered and returned back to his task.

"Ok sis, what's next on the instruction?" Blinking her eyelids quickly before returning her attention to the book.

"Now we divide the batter into to bowls." Getting another bowl from the shelves, Mathilda handed it to her sister and said the following order. "Mix cocoa power to one of the bowl then spread it on the baking sheet, the cocoa batter one above the base batter. Then add the cherries and bake." Mathilda went to retired one of the canned cherries and pour it on the sheet. "After the cake is cooled, just add buttercream and chocolate glaze on top for decorations." Mathilda marked the book and helped her sister place the sheet into an oven.

"There, now we just wait." Amelia clapped her hands in agreement.

"Why did you pick this recipe Mathilda?" Arthur asked, as he wiped his hands with a wash cloth. Mathilda smiled softly and opened the cook book and showed it to them.

"Donauwelle. It seems promising, plus when you cut it, it will show a wavy swirl like pattern in the side." Arthur and Amelia nodded their understanding before Mathilda wiped sweat on her forehead. It's still consider winter, but since the snow melted quite quickly last week and the kitchen was blazing hot with all the other meals being prepared on open flames.

"I think its time for us to get ready for the party later." Mathilda suggested to their dirty clothes. Two of the sisters were covered in flour and Arthur's vest was stained with some melted chocolate that brought all three of them to laughed.

"I thought we were being very careful." Amelia giggled as they thanked the cooks for sharing their space before leaving to their respective bedroom. Halfway up the stairs, Mathilda halted and said she will go check on the hall first before going up. The couple nodded their acknowledgement as they continue to head up stairs.

Mathilda, with a smile on her face was blown away when she entered the dining hall. Felicia has an eye for decorations and it was magnificent. The lilies were arranged quite strategically in each columns of the oval room and the chandelier above them was even decorated in thin strips of colorful paper. Kiku was even folding something the table nearby and from the looks of it, shapes of animals were being formed from his craft ship. She couldn't believe her eyes when she pick one up and examine the intricate detail of it. Sure, it was simple but with the right amount of imagination, you can tell that it forms a shape of an eagle.

Kiku was startled when he saw the pregnant lady picking up each of his sculpture. He didn't hear her coming in. Well, he was indeed busy folding each sheets of paper into a masterpiece and Ludwig and Lovina's shouting game must had muffled her heels on the marble floor.

"Its called origami, Mathilda-san." Mathilda's wide purple eyes swoon with interest and place his origami cane back on the table.

"This is one awesome talent, Kiku." Kiku smiled when he noticed Mathilda's expression.

"Seems to me that Gilbert-san's way of speaking – how do they say it? – has rubbed up to you." Mathilda blinked in puzzlement before she realized and her face heated with embarrassment.

"No need to feel embarrass Mathilda-san. It's actually an honor to see that you and Gilbert-san are blending well."

"I couldn't thank you enough for helping us out." Now, its Kiku's turn to blush. He wasn't used to be being praised at besides his fellow family.

"No need for that, Mathilda-san. We are willing to help you." Then Ludwig came to sit beside Kiku with an exhausted look on his usual stern face.

"Are you alright Ludwig-san?" Kiku was continue to fold his paper and Ludwig eye it curiously.

"I'm fine. Just tired at being yell at every time Lovi is around. What are you doing Kiku?" Then Kiku explained to Ludwig and Mathilda about the Japanese art of origami.

"Could I help?"

"Sure. I want to surprise Gilbert-san with these decorated around the window still." And those, the two of them went to make more those cute paper animals. Mathilda then turned her attention to the now two Italian sisters at the other end of the hall. They seemed to be in a heated conversation so Mathilda thought it was wise to leave them be. She excused herself before leaving the hall.

Just when Mathilda finished her bath and changing into a nice pink dress, she was surprised when Amelia barged into her room quite suddenly in distress.

"They are back and from the sound of the shouts. Gilbert is not happy." Before even getting the change to put any of her jewelries, Amelia pulled Mathilda out of the room and down the hall of the castle.

As they were getting closer to the entrance hall, Mathilda could hear Gilbert's bellow.

"No. oh no. I'm not angry. I'm not even close to it!"

"But mon ami, didn't you-u enjoy our d-day out today?" Mathilda could tell it was her Uncle Francis' voice, oddly, it sound like he was shivering from the way each word came out as a shudder.

"Si, amigo. I d-did en-enjoy the fresh air for-for a change." Antonio said with the same shudder.

"What's wrong with you vati? You insisted I go see onkle Michael but when we got there, he wasn't even home. But out of the country until spring. And when we were going home, these two idiots think it's a good idea to stop by one of the busiest market place in all of Prussia just so both of you could get lost and I have to find both of you the whole afternoon. Making me missed lunch. And when it's time to really come back, you guys deliberately pushed me on that lake. Which by the way, was still freezing despite the snow melting away days ago." Gilbert last few words were through grinded teeth and when the twins came into the hall, they were shocked to see the three friends soaking wet and shivering.

Gilbert was frightening, Mathilda grasped. Even though he was hugging himself from the cold, his red eyes and scowl on his face brought a shiver of fear down her back. She didn't realized before, she only saw his handsome happy self. Sure, she saw him acting like a monster once back when he learn that she was carrying their child but now, the extra thought that it's her doing that brought this scary man out to the surface.

Aldrick seemed unfazed but had a frown on his face, staring at the puddle the three men were forming on his entrance hall. Servants came to give towels for the three friends to whip themselves dry and warm water for them to drink. Ludwig and Kiku were also petrified as they at the scene behind a tall stone statue.

"This is so unawesome! And it's my birthday too." Gilbert groaned in annoyance. He had planned the day to spend time with his wife in town. But courier came that early morning, his father said it's because his uncle was having a hard time getting his tenant to pay his rent. Which, Gilbert, now remembered, he didn't see any letter. He insisted that Ludwig should just go instead. Because if it just a matter of local prince duty. Ludwig can easily just do it. But his father insisted that he should go, saying that it's his duty as heir. And both of his friends were willing to accompany him too. Saying they want to see another side of Thuringia.

Now, he was shivering in cold and miserable. He just wanted a hot bath and cuddle his wife until he sleep this bad day away. When he looked up, he saw his wife looking a bit mortified at him. He dismissed that look and went to her side and smiled sweetly at her.

"Sorry for you to see me in such an ugly form. But I'm really pissed off right now." He walked up toward their room to get a warm bath to remove the cold away. As he was ascending the stair, he could hear his father addressing his two friends to go warm up in the bath too.

After apologizing to her father-in-law for Gilbert's behavior but Aldrick dismissed it, saying it was entertaining to see Gilbert all riled up once in a while. Still, Mathilda didn't have the courage to enter their bedroom. But seeing as she needed to explain things to her husband now and praying that he wouldn't kill her did she enter their bedroom.

Gilbert's wet clothes were placed on a pile on their bath's entrance and Mathilda went to pick it up to give to the servant that was waiting to get his clothes for laundry the next morning, once they were left alone, did Mathilda went behind the screen to see Gilbert lounging on the steaming bath, with Gilbird resting on his master's white hair mop.

Feeling her presence, Gilbert opened his red eyes to look at his wife. He was taken back when he noticed that she was on a verge of crying.

"Hey, now. What's the matter? Did I really scare you earlier?" He got up from the tub and Mathilda blushed on his nudity.

"I-I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry." Mathilda gasped it out before letting her guilt came crashing down on her. Gilbert pulled her into a hug.

"Hey Birdie, shh-shh. Don't be, I should be the one saying sorry. I should shout like that earlier." Mathilda went to hugged him back and placed her face on his neck and gasped for air.

"Its my fault. Its my fault. How stupid of me." She mumbled and Gilbert was in bafflement. He let her cry it out and they just both lay there on the rugged floor. Once Mathilda has calmed down a little, did she let him go and shyly looked at down. And when she noticed that Gilbert was still naked, she averted her eyes to the side.

Gilbert chuckled at his wife shyness. It's not like she hadn't seen him naked and vice versa, but it was endearing.

"I'm sor—"

"Ok, I get it. You are sorry but could you please just explain what you're sorry for?" Mathilda closed her mouth in shock and Gilbert sighed while rubbing her back in encouragement.

"I made them do it." Gilbert raised a pale eyebrow.

"Do what? Don't tell me you're the mastermind on this whole 'Lets drag Gilbert around town for the day' scheme?" Gilbert was opting to lighten the mood but seeing as it had an opposite effect when his wife was going to cry again. "Wow wow now! I was just only jesting Mathilda." Mathilda sniffled and took a deep breath.

"I told them to distract you so that we can surprise you for your birthday party. Please don't blame them. If you want to be angry, please be angry with me. I was the one that cause all of your sufferings today. I'm really sorry Gilbert. It didn't mean it to happen like this. I only wanted to make your day special." Mathilda spilled it out in fast pace that Gilbert had to take a minute before he got the meaning of everything.

Mathilda was shivering in fear and was avoiding look at Gilbert and something warm spark in his heart. It was odd, he should be mad beyond belief but seeing as his shy wife planned something for his birthday and she even got everyone into it, seemed so cute that it warms his heart with love. He pulled his wife toward him for a deep kiss. And when he let go for air, he was staring at her wide beautiful violet eyes that he went for another kiss.

His tongue went into her hot mouth and played with her tongue and she gave a moaned. He gently pushed her down on the floor and he would remove her dress if it wasn't for the gasped of pain coming from his wife.

"What's wrong?" He quickly removed his weight from her and helped her sit up right.

"Sorry, my back was killing me all day and the floor wasn't very comfy." She rubbed her back and the pout on her kissed lip put a smile on Gilbert's face. "I know what I did was wrong Gilbert and I hope you can forgive your father for what he did. He was just helping me get you out of the compound so we can prepare for your party."

Gilbert helped her rubbed her back and Mathilda gave a sigh a relief when he was able to get a sore spot unknot.

"It's alright Mathilda. All is forgiven." She moaned as he continues his massage and her voice was turning him on. But despite hungry to taste his wife, he was hungrier in the nourishment department. And his stomach gave a loud growl that brought both of them back to reality. Both of them laughed and Gilbert suggested they do down and eat. "We don't want to waste your preparations now, do we?"

They got up and Gilbert went to change in a comfortable white breeches and black shirt on and Mathilda went to cover her swollen eye with make-up. Putting on her ruby and diamond necklace that Aldrick gave her for Christmas gift on and she smiled at how nicely it did to her completion.

"Ready to go?" Mathilda nodded and she placed her hand on Gilbert's arm and they both went down the grand staircase together.

The feast, after everybody had been informed that Gilbert is alright, was a huge success. Gilbert couldn't stop getting excited to all the animal origami Kiku made for him and he even invited all the rest of the servants into the hall to celebrate with them. Mathilda smiled, she was glad that everything turned out find. And when she noticed the painter one the end of the hall, silently getting all the view and memorizing it to be immortalized later in the canvas, she hoped that he get the best scene. Everybody was cheery and when it's time for the cake to come out. The German princes were surprised.

They didn't expect for Mathilda to know about their traditions in birthday cakes and when they saw it even had lightened candles on the cake. They knew then and there that their life will be definitely changed for the better.

"Happy birthday Gilbert!" Everybody cheered as Gilbert blow the fire away and cut the cake.

"Oh! You made donauwelle! My favorite! Thank you Birdie." Gilbert kissed his wife full on the lips, and squeal in delight when she realized that he deliberately has chocolate glazing on his face and had smeared it on her.

Later that night, once everybody had stuffed their fill and retired to the bed. Gilbert was helping his wife sleep better through the night by kneading her back.

"Oui Gilbert." Mathilda moaned in approval when he released a sore muscle.

"You know, you should tell me that your back was hurting sooner. I'm willing to help you." Gilbert said and Mathilda moaned again.

"Oui, la prochaine fois." She was enjoying it too much that she slipped into French and Gilbert chuckled.

"Was? Sprechen Deutsch order Englisch Birdie." Trying to play with her and then Mathilda suddenly stood up that knocked Gilbert back into the bed.

"I forgot your gift!" Mathilda went down the bed in a hurry that Gilbert watched her in amazement.

"You don't need to give me gifts Birdie. You already gave me the best gift by organizing the party earlier." Mathilda ignored him and opened her draw at the vanity table. She then took out a small black box with a white ribbon and gave it to Gilbert.

"It's nothing much but it's a tradition back in England. Arthur recommended it." Raising his brow, he untie the ribbon and open the box, inside was an oval brooch, the design was distinctly the Beilschmidt eagle crest on the top rim and the portrait it shows in the center the face of Mathilda, it captured her best features of her wavy blond hair, violet eyes, fair completion and her heart shape mouth curl into a small smile looking up at Gilbert.

A smile was forming on the corner of his lips and he turned to face his wife. "This is beautiful. Thank you." He then went to kiss his wife lips. This was sure one birthday he was going to remember for a long time.

A/N: I'm still alive! And I'm really sorry for the long wait! It's been a year and a half since my last update. School was getting hectic that I didn't realize that I had forgotten to update. I'm not sure when it my next update but I want to assure you that I wouldn't drop this story. It might just take a little longer to finish than original planned though. Please bear with me!

So, I read in the official Hetalia site that Prussia's birthday is on January 18. So, yeah, got inspired to write about it. But I can't really say if I did justice for his birthday party.

I also discovered that back in the days, birthdays were celebrated with families only. And gift giving wasn't a thing until much later centuries. It's actually a bit more common to give the birthday celebrant flowers. Which, in my take, the flowers that decorated the halls. Oh and lilies grew in winter. So I pick that flower for the sole reason of the season. Plus, they are quite a lovely flower and Italy's national flower.

And the reason why Mathilda gave Gilbert a portrait brooch was because at that time, it was quite popular gift. People don't have internet them and sure enough don't have any camera to capture anything. So a portrait of "likeness", in huge full size or small portable ones like a brooch was an alternative.

Fun Facts:

Donauwelle/ Snow-White-Cake is a traditional sheet cake popular in Germany and Austria. It's a pound cake with sour cherries, buttercream, cocoa and chocolate and like a Marble cake bright and dark cake batter are mixed into each other to create swirl effects.

Birthday cake is believed that the first actual birthday cake was made in Germany in the Middle Ages. The Germans would celebrate children's birthdays with cake, calling the celebration Kinderfest.

In Europe, there was a well-developed genre of napkin-folding, which flourished during the 17th and 18th centuries. After this period, this genre declined and was mostly forgotten. However, some of the techniques and bases associated with this tradition continued to be a part of European culture; folding was a significant part of Friedrich Froebel's "Kindergarten" method, and the designs published in connection with his curriculum are stylistically similar to the napkin fold repertoire. When Japan opened its borders in the 1860s, as part of a modernization strategy, they imported Froebel's Kindergarten system—and with it, German ideas about paperfolding.
