Shealyn pov
Climbing. More Climbing. Resting on rocks. Eating rocks. Okay, not that, but pretty much that sums up the journey. Oh, I forgot to mention Frodo leading silently, and Sam and Abbi following silently, leaving me with the duty of filling the silence. Joy. (that's sarcasm, for those of you who can't figure that out.)
"So…." I said, trying to make conversation. "Rocks."
"Yes Shealyn, these are rocks." Abbi replied sarcastically from behind. "Do you have any other obvious facts to point out?" I huffed. Okay, this was no one's best day, but Abbi seemed to be trying to get on my nerves.
"No, I was just hoping to strike up a conversation." I replied with an edge to my voice.
"Well, we're conversing, so I hope you're satisfied and will now shut up." Abbi replied angrily. I sighed before deciding not to start a conflict and turning to my phone, and realizing I had a text message.
"Oh cool, I have a text message from Olivia!" I told the others. I don't really know why I felt inclined to share with them, but then again I'm not one for silence so that's probably the reason. The others were silent anyways though. I groaned in my head and looked down at it.
To: Shealyn
Yeah that is so sweet! Rachael agrees too. So, now I realize I forgot to tell who's here. Well, Rachael, Emma, Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn are all here. Oh, and Boromir because he survived. Did I tell you that? Pippin and Merry were captured by orcs, as well as Amanda and Alyssa. I suggest you break it to Abbi carefully. Anyways, this guy we just met is now staring at me really funny so I'm going to stop texting.
-Olivia
I quickly replied:
To: Olivia and others
Aww, hope Alyssa and Amanda are okay! Wait, who did you just meet? Details, gurl! Oh, and PLEASE all of you text me more! It's SOOO boring here! Nobody is talking and everyone seems angry at me and it just sucks. TEXT ME!
-very bored shealyn
"Hey Abbi?" I said after reading it through and sending.
"I thought I told you to be quiet." She said irritably. Okay, that set me on edge, so I decided to ignore Olivia's advice.
"No you didn't, and I just thought you'd like to know about your sister." I replied casually.
"What about?" She asked, now interested.
"Oh, just that she's captured by orcs." I said non-chalantly.
"WHAT?!" She screamed. "IS SHE OKAY?! WHAT'S GOING ON?!"
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." I sighed to myself.
"WHAT!" Abbi roared. I stopped walking and whirled around to face her. Sam, who was behind Abbi, took a step back from us.
"Stop worrying, I'm sure she's fine." I said. Okay, seeing her face, I kind of felt bad- she looked terrified. Still, Abbi gets on my nerves.
"Shut up you haven't read the books!" She yelled at me.
"Neither have you." I retorted.
"I know." She sobbed. "And now I have no idea what's going to happen to her!" She slumped to the ground.
"Hey, I'm sorry." I said slowly, crouching down next to her. Okay, no I wasn't, I just didn't want to look like the villain.
"No you're not." She said angrily. Ooh, she's good.
"Yes, I am sorry, and you know Amanda." I tried to comfort her but children or comforting aren't my thing. And there was still the whole 'we hate each other' vibe going between us that prevented me from helping. I just kind of awkwardly stayed next to her. "She's awesome and she does know the story- she'll be fine."
"And how would you know?" She bit back.
"Because I just said why." I angrily replied. "Now stop blaming it on me, it's not my fault!"
"I'm blaming you for being so casual about it!" She screamed, bolting to stand up again. I did the same. "But I guess that's not your fault, considering you don't care about anyone's feelings." She gestured back to Sam. Sam gave me a look like 'don't drag me into this'.
"For the last time, I'm sorry!" I tried to keep from yelling but failed. It had been a few days since said incident where I sent a certain text and such, and really the time had been filled with me apologizing occasionally and silence. (I really didn't think I needed to be sorry, but I also didn't want everyone pissed at me- there were a lot of cliffs around where it could look like an accident if I was shoved off.) "How long are you going to hold that against me?!"
"As long as it takes for you to realize you're always like this!" Abbi yelled back. I looked at her.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. Seriously, she really needed to get some sleep or something.
"You don't care!" Abbi ranted. "You don't care how you make others feel, and you don't let people get close to you, and you don't care that no matter what you do you're always like this! It just makes me so irritated that you're such a disgusting jerk!" She let out a scream and then slumped to the ground.
"Lady Abigail!" Sam rushed over to see if she was alright. Oh great, she was the victim? Unfair- I was the one being verbally abused. Abbi was gasping for air as she tried to continue but couldn't find the words.
"You're awful!" She just screamed what came to your head. "You're heartless and irresponsible and you don't care about anything!" She wouldn't let Sam touch her, which was making him very nervous.
"Oh I don't care now?" I said, anger suddenly exploding out of me. "WHO IS THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN WALKING THIS FREAKIN MOUNTAIN FOR HOW MANY FREAKIN DAYS NOT TALKING AND THEN THE ONE TIME I TRY AND TALK SORTA CASUALLY YOU FREAK OUT ON ME! DID YOU EVER THINK THAT I WAS TRYING TO KEEP YOU FROM GETTING TOO WORRIED? GET SOME FREAKIN PERSPECTIVE!"
"Shealyn!" Sam scolded. Abbi sobbed even more.
"Shealyn, stop yelling at her." Frodo said angrily, cautiously approaching me. He hadn't spoken to me since the incident, and THIS is what he chooses to say to me?!
"OH NOW YOU'RE ON HER SIDE?" I ranted at him. "WHOS THE ONE WHO RISKED HER STUPID LIFE JUST TO ATTEMPT TO PROTECT YOU ON THIS STUPID QUEST? SURE IT SEEMS LIKE IM A NUSCENCE BUT DID IT EVER OCCUR TO YOU THAT I MIGHT ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOU AND I'M NOT JUST DOING ALL THIS TO BE AN ANNOYING TAG-ALONG?!" I ran off down the bend, tears streaming from my face.
"SHEALYN!" I heard Frodo calling my name, but I didn't want to see any of them right now. All over I just felt hurt. I may seem like I don't care, but sometimes people's words can sting even me. Sure Abbi's words weren't kind, but we've never been the best of friends either. What mostly ached was the fact that Frodo hadn't stood up for me when I needed it.
I couldn't run forever, so I stopped in a clearing- well, it was a wider spot of flat rock. I sat down on one of the boulders and sobbed my heart out until I couldn't sob anymore. I then sat there moping until I realized I was capable of tears and cried even more.
"Hi." I looked up, and Frodo was standing in front of me, looking confused and sad and like he'd rather be anywhere than here.
I didn't respond- I just glared at the ground.
"Shealyn, you really shouldn't have put Abbi in such a state." He told me. "Sam still can't calm her down and it's driving him mad." I looked up sadly at him.
"Is that all you have to say?" I manage to croak out. He sighs.
"No, I guess not." He sits down next to me. "Look, I… didn't really understand all of your ranting, but I gathered you are quite upset." I snorted. "Shealyn, seriously, I'm sorry if you're feeling like we're ignoring you or looking down on you or anything. You've been very helpful by being quiet, and tempers are high. It's not your fault all the shouting broke out."
His words were sweet-ish, but they weren't what I wanted to hear. I looked into his eyes, begging him to tell how he should have stood up for me and how he loves me and I'm useful at more than just shutting up- but he's done now. He looks to me for a reply.
"Okay." I sigh. He leans forwards to kiss me, and hesitantly push my lips up against his. Keep what you've got, I guess.
