Happily Ever After

"Incoming transmission. Please respond. Incoming transmission. Please..."

Yawning widely as the communications array in the den blared to life, Kira looked around for an adult to deal with the annoying machine. "Mommy? Daddy? Gray?" she called, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "Where are-oh, right, big brother started training today…"

Remembering why she'd stormed inside to pout in the first place, Kira scowled at the fluffy bird-shaped pillow she'd been cuddling. Her mother had sewn it together for her sixth birthday, but now she was wondering if she should've asked for something bigger. Something like joining her brother in wizard lessons, perhaps.

"Stupid adults," she grumbled, knowing her parents would just tell her that she was too young again if she asked.

Rolling off the couch, Kira dragged a dining chair up to the counter so that she could see who was calling. "Uncle Finn!" she shrieked excitedly as the name 'Finn Tico' flashed across the screen.

Pressing the big green button that daddy used whenever he wanted to speak to grandma Leia, Kira was beaming by the time her godfather answered.

"Kira! Hello!" Finn said happily. "What a nice surprise!"

"Is it? You woke me up from my nap," she said plaintively.

"Oh, no," he played along, I'm so sorry! Whatever can I do to make it up to you?"

"Bring me something sweet the next time you come to visit?" Kira said hopefully. "Mommy never lets me have the good stuff anymore. Daddy has to sneak it to me!"

"Does he now?"

"Mommy!" Kira turned around so quickly she almost fell off the chair. "You're back!"

"Be careful, my love," Rey cautioned, catching Kira under her knees and swinging her up in her arms. "I wouldn't want anything to happen while I'm not around to protect you."

"Okay, mommy," she said, starting to yawn again.

"Hey, peanut, can I talk to your mom for a bit?" Finn said kindly, noting her drooping eyelids. "I've got loads of boring adult stuff to tell her."

"Adult stuff?" Kira said in disgust. "Yuck!"

"An apt description," Rey agreed. "Do you want to go to your room or stay out here?"

"I want to be where you are, but only if you're not mad at me. You're not mad at me, are you, mommy?" Kira said curiously.

Her mother's eyes softened at the innocent question. "No, of course not. I understand why you were upset earlier, but you'll have your time soon enough, I promise."

"Okay, mommy, but I'm really tired. Can my time be later? I'd really like to go back to sleep now," she murmured.

"You got it," Rey smiled, carrying her daughter back to the sofa and tucking her in. "Sleep for a little while longer and then I'll have daddy make us a nice big lunch, okay?"

"Yes, mommy. Love you."

"I love you too, sweetheart." Rey kissed Kira's forehead before wading back to her best friend. "Thanks for being so patient with Kira, Finn."

"No problem, I just can't believe how tall she's gotten! She really is the spitting image of you."

"Ben doesn't think so," Rey laughed. "He still thinks she's tiny."

"Yeah, well, he's a giant, so…" Finn teased.

"He is that," she said fondly. "So, what's up?"

"Nothing serious," he said easily. "Just wanted to check in. Rose and I were thinking about coming to Chandrila for a few weeks and wondered if you and Ben would-"

"Yes!" she interrupted. "We'd love to have you! I'll tell him when he comes in with Gray."

"Well, I'm glad that's settled then," Finn chuckled. "Happy?"

"More than words can ever express." Thinking about her beloved family, Rey felt inexplicably choked up. But she knew she didn't need to explain herself to Finn. She never had. "May the-."

"May the Force be with you, Uncle Finn!" a drowsy voice called from the couch.

"The spitting image," Finn said again with a wink, and then he was gone.

Rey sighed as two strong arms encircled her trim waist. "Who was that, sweetheart?"

"Finn. He and Rose are coming to visit."

"Oh, that's nice."

Rey turned in his arms. "Yeah, it is, isn't it?"

"Mmm. Almost as nice as this…" Rey laughed against Ben's lips as their son made retching noises from behind them.

Yeah, life didn't get much better than this.

A/N: I'm ready for an epic ending to this space fairytale, and I think JJ can deliver. If you've never watched his tv series Alias, do yourself a favor and check it out. That story had a fantastic, romantic ending too. Seven months, y'all!
