EXT: Miranda and Gary are stood outside a church. Miranda is holding Grace and Gary is holding William. People start to walk up the path. Gary looks to Miranda.
GARY: Are you ready?
MIRANDA: As ready as I'll ever be!
The vicar comes out and shakes their hands. Gary walks across and stands next to Miranda, he puts his free hand around her waist. She is shaking.
GARY: It will be fine, everything will go perfectly. Don't you worry! Just take a deep breath and enjoy it!
He kisses her on the cheek. She takes his hand and they start to welcome people. Firstly is Stevie and Andrew, then Miranda's parents, Gary parents, his younger brothers, Chris, Alison, Josh and Noah, Tilly, Charlie and Ophelia, Clive and Jim, and then a few other people, distant cousins etc. When everyone is in Miranda, Gary and the vicar walk in. They sit on the front pew next to the godparents.
VICAR: Good Afternoon everyone, and thank you for joining us on this special day. We have come together on this beautiful day to welcome Grace and William into the house of God. We are going to to start with the hymn, "All things bright and beautiful"
They congregation stand. Miranda and Gary can't find a hymn book so mime along and join in with the bits they know.
EVERYONE: All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the lord god made them all.
The song carries on, Miranda and Gary start to struggle. They start making up words.
MIRANDA: Each little flower that smells, each bird that flaps their wings...
GARY: Da da da da da da...
EVERYONE: All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the lord god made them all.
They get to the end of the hymn and all sit. Now its for the time that Miranda dreaded.
VICAR: I'd like to now welcome Penny up, she is going to read a piece of writing.
Everyone starts clapping.
PENNY: When Miranda and Gary asked me to say something I was very overwhelmed. There was a time, all of you I'm sure are aware when I thought I'd never be a Grandma, but of course I was wrong. Very wrong! Firstly I want to thank my beautiful daughter and my son-in-law for blessing me with these two beautiful grandchildren. They are perfect in every way, just like their parents and grandparents of course! Both sets! Secondly I want to say thank you to all the people who have helped Miranda and Gary along the way. Then finally I want to apologise; Miranda I know I've not been the easiest of Mothers, so please forgive me. I only ever wanted what was best for you. Now when I look at you and see that you are so happy, it makes me well up.
Penny and Miranda have tears in their eyes.
PENNY: This is all I ever wanted for you. You have made me so proud, I will never again be embarrassed to say that you are my daughter, in fact I will from now on, shout it for everyone to hear. So please will you all join me in singing our second hymn, Morning has broken.
EVERYONE: Morning has broken, like the first morning, blackbirds have spoken like the first bird.
Miranda suddenly shouts.
MIRANDA: So that's the right words!
She looks to Stevie who laughs, then everyone started laughing. The music stops.
MIRANDA: Sorry, sorry! Carry on!
The music starts again, they fly through the song. They are all sat down when the vicar calls Miranda and Gary isn't a dry eye in the room. Everyone is sobbing. The vicar then asks the god parents of William to join them. Chris, Alison and Tilly stand up. They are each given a candle and have to repeat after the vicar. Once this is over they swap with Stevie, Andrew and Charlie, they too are given a candle and have to repeat after the vicar.
VICAR: Now we shall pray for William and Grace.
The vicar says a pray and then takes William from Gary. He gets some of the holy water and leans William over the font. He pours the water.
VICAR: I baptise you William Charles Preston, in the name of the name of the father and of the son and the holy spirit.
The vicar hands him back to Gary and then takes Grace. William didn't cry, as soon as Grace leaves Miranda's arms she starts crying. The vicar gets some of the holy water and leans Grace over the font. He pours the water.
VICAR: I baptise you Grace Olivia Preston, in the name of the name of the father and of the son and the holy spirit.
He gives Grace back to Miranda.
VICAR: Please will you join me in a final prayer. The lords prayer.
They all say the lords prayer.
INT: They are back at the restaurant. Penny is stood but the table, she has the christening cake hidden. She's gathered everyone around.
PENNY: Right everybody, as well as my heart warming speech earlier, I was in charge of the cake. No one has seen it yet, drum roll please.
Gary uses the counter to make a drumroll sound. Penny suddenly whips off the cloth to reveal a zoo themed cake. There are crocodiles, giraffes and little models of Miranda and Gary holding the twins.
MIRANDA: Mum, this is amazing!
PENNY: Nothing less for my two grandchildren and you wait until you cut into it! There's one last surprise!
Penny gives Miranda a knife.
PENNY: Take a look!
Miranda and Gary cut the cake together and reveal a rainbow effect inside.
GARY: Wow Penny! This is amazing!
Gary starts to cut the cake into pieces and they pass it around. "Be My Baby" plays in the background. Gary gives Miranda a massive slice.
GARY: Big enough?
MIRANDA: Just!
Miranda kisses Gary.
Scene ends.
