ok, so on with the story!
Leonardo opened his eyes slowly. It was the second time in less than a week he woke up feeling so comfortable and warm, and he didn't have to think as to why. He smiled to himself as his head rested into the pillow, enjoying the fresh, floral, spring breeze scent that filled his senses whenever he was around Evie, absorbing her warmth as her back rested to his chest, something he could feel despite the covers and his shell in the way.
Already it seemed routine for him to feel her head on his arm as she continued to breath heavy, her breath brushing against his skin, and for him to carefully leave Evelyn to sleep, slipping out of bed with his ninja skills. Shutting the door silently, Leo didn't bother with the stairs, but flipped over the railing, so as to reach the dojo sooner, faintly wondering where his "other dimensional brothers" had spent the night. His question was soon answered, with the loud snores coming from the living room and his brother's rooms.
Leo's steps faltered for a moment, seeing candle light through the cracks under the door of the dojo, he would have worried if not for faint sounds of rushing air and the silent whispers of feet on the ground, or the silent slash of wind and blade. Stepping into the dojo, neither Leonardo's paused or looked at each other, even though they were both painfully aware of the others presence.
"Want to spar?" The younger asked, drawing a single katana, a wordless expression that he liked to play fair.
The older hesitated before a whisper of a smile twitched at his lips. "You'll need both of those." He warned. His only warning before his direction changed and he charged at Leo.
But the younger didn't draw the second katana, meeting the clash of their blades with his body weight and strength, but even then he stumbled back. For a moment Leo was stunned, he knew he and his brothers were stronger than the average human, but that level of strength…he'd only seen Raph come close. He dared say Hun would break into heavy sweat in an arm wrestle against his older self. But the young ninja whipped away his mistake- a falter in his concentration- quickly, focusing all his attention on the fight before him.
It was a thrill. More than a thrill, it was liberating. This older version of himself knew all his moves, especially the ones he favoured, knew how he thought, his planning strategies, his techniques, and could meet them. More than meet them, he pushed back and reviled their flaws. Two hours seemed to fly by in a breath, and only his need for a pause to catch his breath made Leo realise how long they'd been at it. His older self was in a much better state, his breaths heavy but even, showing control, and his muscles tense as if ready to start again immediately.
"Good to know age doesn't slow me down." Leo muttered, letting sarcasm and humour flow, which made his taller, larger, scarred double smirk.
"It's good to remember how young and fast I once was." The wiser admitted, putting his katana away and began adjusting his black gloves.
Leo watched for a moment before his curiosity got the better of him. "Will you really go looking for the Evie in your world?"
Leonardo, tall and matured from long years of hardship and heartbreak, stiffened before letting out a careless sigh. "I thought you heard. No, not really, though humans are much kinder to us because of the victory at the hands of Donatello…"
It feels hopeless. Leo finished mentally, the elder not having to say the words. The 19 year old observed the cold, serious, focused glaze in the older turtle's eyes, and couldn't help but wonder if he had that exact same haze when he let himself get carried away with training and so on.
"Evie will only try convince you." He smirked, sheathing his blade and adjusting his blue bandanna that wasn't quite tight enough.
Leonardo chuckled, nodding in agreement, the glaze lifting. "I bet." Those misty, unseeing eyes then lifted to his own, and Leo could feel their eyes meet- causing him to wonder if his other dimensional self was truly blind. "How do you deal with not knowing her past? We both know that the unknown isn't exactly something we're comfortable with."
Leo was silent for a moment, contemplating his answer. "I'm not completely, but Evie doesn't even want to remember for herself, so why should I know when it's her life? What right do I have? Besides…" He thought back and frowned. "When our brothers from the other world tried looking for her, Evie wasn't where she was supposed to be. And yet her foster mother was in that world, so she surely had to exist as well." The young reptiles frown turned into a scowl, feeling the heat of anger in his gut as he remembered the lost, broken expression the brunet had tried to hide, but he had seen it so clearly in her eyes, practically felt her pain. "She then mentioned that Linda's interest had died before their meeting, but in that world he'd lived. Then it occurred to me, that Evie had given only descriptions of her life after Linda had taken her in."
The older Leonardo frowned as he pieced the puzzle together. "So it's likely that in their world, Evie is living the life she used to have…if she survived." He finished, knowing from the other brothers that Evelyn had been in hospital when she was very young with a head injury. Leo nodded stiffly, his hands clenched into fists. The elder nodding in understanding, mentally making notes on how protective and defensive his younger self had already become of the young woman, and reminded himself to speak with the teens Sensei in private later.
"So I won't prey, I'm not sure if I really want to know myself." Leo sighed and with his breath gushing out, his muscles and hands relaxed, and he forced his expression to become tamed.
Before either could say or do anymore, Mikey called loudly that breakfast was being served, and to hurry before it was gone. The two looked to each other with a faint smile, rolling their eyes at their younger brother, and left the dojo, but before they could get to the kitchen, they heard a loud yawn behind them.
"This is the downside to you ninjas, early mornings." Grumbled a tired Evie, rubbing her eyes like child does after a nap as she came closer.
"Want some coffee to help you wake up?" Donnie offered, but Evie shook her head with a little smile.
"I can only drink coffee if it's a Starbucks ice caramel Latte with plenty of caramel." She explained, taking the plate Raph offered her with pancakes and waffles piled on in a neat stack.
Leo smiled and chuckled to himself. "You and your sweet tooth."
Evie smiled and sent him a mocking look. "You'll be saying that a lot more in the future, I bet."
"No doubt." The forest green turtle mused with a grin, sipping his herbal tea that the old rat had laid out. The scent was refreshing, steam with a hint of tea, but the taste, hot with a heavy tang, tingling the taste buds on his tongue as he took a sip.
"Any closa ta sendin' us home?" Griddex spoke up after a few moments of light chatter, looking to both Donnie and Shellectro. Both turtles looked down with a sigh and a slight shake of the head, at exactly the same time in perfect sync. Evie tucked in her lips to hide the desire to smile at the sight, and Leo himself had to admit it was somewhat amusing, even across dimensions, they were so similar.
"Sadly no." Don muttered, rubbing his eyes over his dark violet mask as he lifted his cream coloured coffee mug.
Shellectro nodded in agreement. "None of our past encounters with both friends and foes are even remotely alike, there's no common ground, so the possibilities for finding the cause of the sudden rift keep piling."
The room fell silent as the orange suited turtle spoke, a heavy atmosphere setting in, making it uncomfortable. Even Mikey couldn't speak out against the awkwardness. Evie bit her lip and looked down at her plate, thinking over all the stories the guys had told her. Don's right, there's so many different possibilities it's so hard to pinpoint the real cause, she thought, taking a sip of tea.
"You know," Everyone looked up at the sound of Donatello suddenly speaking, looking directly at Evie as he did so. "We were going to leave it for a surprise later, but maybe it will lighten the mood." He says thoughtfully, heading back to his lab. Evie frowned curiously, but got up to follow him, not really understanding what he was talking about, or why the three other brothers were now grinning.
Leo stood as well, quickly making his way around the table to walk beside the small teen, Mikey seemed excited all of a sudden, giddily running to catch up with them while Raph smirked and joined in also. The 7 followed curiously, the 4 super hero's venturing a little closer while the other 3 hung back slightly. Evelyn looked around in confusion, the four ninjas looked so proud of themselves, and then Donnie stood back with a beaming smile. The brunets jaw dropped and her eyes widened to the size of saucers.
"That's a-"
"Yep!" Don grinned.
"Where did-"
"Some old geezer was gonna throw it in da junk yard." Raph smirked.
"It's for me?" Evie asked breathlessly.
Mikey sniggered. "Who else can play it?"
The English girl approached the grand piano slowly. It was old, rather tatty with scratches marring the one beautiful black painted wood. Clearly it had been neglected, the owner not bothering to polish the fine material, but opening the lid to inspect the instrument, she beamed at the sight of the strings looking new.
"We had it tuned already." Leo smiled, leaning on the nearby wall.
Evie's eyes watered a little. "I haven't played a grand piano since I was little…" With her biggest smile, the young designer hugged each turtle, Leo first, then Don and Mikey at the same time, then Raph, before jumping a little on the spot like toddler at Christmas. "Can I play it now?" She asked eagerly.
Don nodded, smiling happily, clearly relieved with his friends positive reaction. "Something happy maybe?"
Evie smirked, "Leave it to me." With that, the young lady sat on the cushioned stool, cracked her fingers, testing out each key with a sweep and grinning at the perfect sound. "This one's called Can Do from Kuroko no Basket." And with that, her fingers begin to fly, green and blue eyes slide shut, singing the words in her head as she played out the tune. It was light, cheerful with a good beat, it made her smile as she listened to the tune. Finishing, Evie let out a sigh. "So much better than my keyboard." Evelyn grinned breathlessly, running a finger over the keys with a feather light touch, feeling the worn ivory. The pale skinned girl look to Leo and his brothers. "Is it ok if I play a little more?" She ask, looking over to Master Splinter also, who was sat on the sofa now with a cup of tea.
The old rat smiled softly. "Perhaps something gentle this time?" He asked politely.
Evie grin and nod. "I have two new songs I want to try." Readying herself, scanning the keys to find the right section to begin with, the young teen began again. Choosing "Brothers" from the Fullmetal Alchemist anime as the first to play turned out to be a good move, the song started slow and soft, but it built slowly stronger. Or at least it was supposed to, but Evie felt it soft, only speeding up as she was supposed to. The young lady smiled sadly as she softly sang the last of the words, the only words she dared to sing, thinking of the 3 brothers behind her, and herself a little as well. "Now all we can do, is live." Again the pace slowed, turning lighter and gentler, with the final high note, Evie let the tone hang before lifting her foot from the pedal.
There was only 5 seconds before the next song, this one was becoming The British girl's new favourite because it was such a sweet sound, TehIshter's Vocaloid "Hatsune Miku". Evelyn didn't hold back on the song, letting her eyes close again as she was carried away with the music. There was no longer anyone else in the room, just her and this lovely instrument that brought back so many happy memories.
Sadly the song had to end, so Evie switched to playing a few old classics she knew from lessons, and let herself relax, no longer minding the stares from around the room. In fact Evelyn was pleased when the super turtles came closer, the four standing near so they could watch her hands move in their smooth rhythm. She smiled shyly at them, happy when they smiled back. With a peak over her shoulder, Evie saw the other 3 coming closer as well. The young brunet already knew music held a power that words couldn't, after all Linda used that same trick to earn her trust and faith when she was a child. It's because Music is soothing for the soul, it washes away your sorrows if only for a moment, Linda had told her once.
Time seemed to pass in a daze, filled with light music that flowed so effortlessly from the small teen on the stool. Leo smiled as he watched, relieved and happy at seeing Evie enjoy herself so much. If the last time she played a Grand Piano was when she was a child, then this was an even greater present than he'd hoped it would be, and was suddenly grateful for Mikey delaying them at the junk yard, otherwise they never would have spotted the old man and his hired truck.
Looking over to his super hero counterpart, the other Leo, Gravaturtle, and his brothers were also stood beside the piano now, watching as Evie's slim fingers moved effortlessly along the keys. Even though her hands were so small, her movements were quick and skilled, managing to hit and hold notes he would have thought were too hard for those small fingers.
Evie watched her own hands move for a moment as she played a tune she knew by heart, not needing to think about which key was next, so her mind wondered. The small brunet replayed her first day staying in the layer, the guys sharing their stories, tales of other worlds and monsters she could only imagine and base from horror films she'd seen. But then a thought crossed her mind and her fingers stopped.
The sudden end to the music caused the mutants to frown, and a one boyfriend to step forward quickly in worry. "Evie?"
"The Ultimate Draco…you defeated him by going to the Daimio right?" She muttered absentmindedly.
Leo, Don, Raph and Mikey looked among each other before answering. "Yeah, we used the time sceptre and the war staff."
Evie looked up with curious eyes. "And Lord Symultaneous appeared there to fix things right?"
Raph raised an eyebrow. "Where are ya goin with this England?"
Evie shrugged. "Well, we can't figure out the cause or a way to send them back, but couldn't the Daimio?" Blue and green eyes looked to the young leader. "Didn't you go with Usagi to the Battle Nexus for that same reason when you guys were scattered?"
Master Splinter stood from his seat on the sofa and approached. "The great Profit Yamatohru once said, 'those who seek answers for themselves are stronger than the great mountains'." He relighted elegantly, his old weathered voice sounding wise and mysterious. The old rat's words made Evie blush in embarrassment for suddenly suggesting something strange, and she hung her head a little, but the father smiled gently. "But I believe that Miss Evelyn has suggested a good idea, I'm sure my old friend would help any way he can. Besides, I'd like to visit him and take some salted bisects from my travels with the Ancient One." The Ninja master smiled, looking pleased as he wondered to his room.
Evie blinked. "Um…so was that a yes?"
Raph laughed and patted the small teens shoulder. "Who would have thought 'nut-ball-number-2' would come up with something useful."
Narrowing her eyes at the tall turtle, Evelyn pouted. "You're a jerk Raph."
"What da shell made ya think of the Daimio Eve?" Mikey grinned, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
She shrugged. "I was just thinking back to the stories you told me and it occurred to me that we were so caught up with trying to figure out the cause ourselves, we overlooked asking someone who might actually know."
Don smiled shyly, rubbing the back of his head, looking away from the 7 guests. "I should have thought of that hours ago."
"This Daimio," Gravaturtle stepped forward, looking among the 5. "He's a friend of yours?"
"Kinda…" Leo replied, before going into vague detail on the Battle City Nexus and its Emperor, the Daimio.
"Wow." Bloboid mumbled, a little wide eyed as the blue bandanna wearing ninja finished explaining.
"Sounds like somethin' outa a fantasy movie or something…" Gridex muttered thoughtfully, looking up as Master Splinter returned with a small, neatly wrapped bag, and chalk.
Evie grinned. "That's what I thought, but don't you think it's kind of cool as well?" She grinned, watching closely as the elderly rat approached a blank wall with plenty of space around it, and then began drawing on the brick.
Fascination seemed to be the main emotion upon the girls face as she observed the strange yet beautiful markings made on the wall by the elder's slim fingers, looking on in wonder at what seemed to be an ancient language long forgotten, with its elegantly perfect shapes. Finally the old rat stepped back and put his hands together, his eldest son standing next to him and copying his stance, then mirroring his faint mumbles perfectly like it was faint music.
Then in a blink of an eye, a veil of water reached up like a hand and covered the markings like a door, as it swirled in inviting light. Evie's jaw dropped, and finally the reality of all the strange and wonderful adventures her boyfriend and his family and friends had experienced were not near fantasy or imagination, but as real as her herself.
Without even blinking, Mikey grinned, shouted a cheerful "Cowabunga!", ran at the portal and dived through. Raph shook his head and muttered a few insults, before walking through, with Donnie close behind him. Master Splinter smiled at the 7 guests, holding his arm out in a gentle motion, inviting them through first.
There was a second of hesitation, but the "dark world" Leo led the way, looking to his old master, his younger self and a short glance at the amazed teen. His brothers soon followed him through, walking confidently as they were engulfed by the liquid door. The Superhero's followed, Shellectro, Griddex, then Blobiod, but Gravaturtle lingered for a second longer, following his brothers after taking a moment to observe the good parent his father should have been, and his ninja self, and then the young girl who was such a mystery to him and his siblings.
Master Splinter smiled as he followed immediately after the leaf green turtle, understanding from his eldest son's stance beside the young lady, that he wanted a moment. Once it was the two of them left, Leonardo turned to look at Evie, taking her hand.
"You don't have to come you know, we'll be back before you can even blink." He assured. Part of him didn't quite like the idea of dragging Evelyn into his family's troubles, and yet another part of him just didn't want her out of his sight, even for a second.
But Evie grinned. "Are you kidding me? A chance to see another world? To meet some of the people you know? How could I miss out on this amazing opportunity?! This is so cool! And besides…" Leo did not miss the colour staining the girl's cheeks before she ducked or head, or how her body shifted a little closer to him as she squeezed his hand and rested her free hand on his elbow. "I don't ever want to miss out on something important going on with you…you're my boyfriend after all…" Evie muttered the last part, looking the other way to try hide her red face.
Leo smirked, finding the bold teen's sudden wave of shyness attractively cute, and felt his protective and possessive instincts flare. Wordlessly, he squeezed her hand back, pulled her closer slightly and kissed her forehead gently.
Evie felt her embarrassment grow at the tender act, and was sure she would have keeled over dead if anyone else had seen, but since it was just the two of them, she looked up. When she did, Leo moved his lips from her forehead to her lips, touching ever so lightly.
Evie smiled and looked down after he pulled away, biting her bottom lip before striding to the portal, still holding Leo's hand and dragging him along behind her. He just knows how to make my blood boil, and its going to drive me crazy. It's not even a week since we became official and already I'm losing control. Evie thought to herself, keeping her eyes forward as she pushed down the tingling heat that tickled her skin, and the craving to just continue.
Leonardo, however, had to fight the smile of his face as they reached the other side of the portal, amused to no end by the brunet's sudden urge to hurry. On the other side, he saw all of them waiting, his brothers and father at the head of their little pack to lead the way through the strange forest and over the hill, to the Daimio's palace.
Upon reaching the top of the hill, Evie's eyes widened to their maximum size in wonder as she stared out at the stunning view. The Japanese style red palace with its small city and waterfall from the mountain was nothing she could ever have imagined in her wildest dreams, it looked like a fantasy game setting for video games or play-through stories.
"What's the matter England? Never seen a palace before?" Raph mocked.
"Buckingham Palace, once as a kid on a school fiend trip. But a Japanese style palace in another world with strange plants, alien like bird calls in the distance and a giant waterfall? Funny enough no Raph." Evie replied sarcastically, sending the red bandanna wearing teen a mocking glare.
Mikey sniggered and shrugged. "Just another day at the office for us." He teased, making warrior poses.
Splinter sighed and shook his head lightly as he walked on, heading for the city, Leo following closely with Evie, and the others in suit, leaving the young Turtle Titan behind to run after them.
The city was busy and bustling, creatures of all shapes, sizes, colours and breads were walking around confidently, naturally going about their business like any normal human city would. In fact, it was Evie that drew attention of the crowds, and faint whispers started behind.
The small teen shrank a little at the sudden over exposure she felt, one of the things that made her shy was- after all- been the centre of attention. Leonardo frowned a little and dropped Evie's hand only to slip around her shoulders securely, letting her hide a little behind his shell.
Of course, it took no time for the others to notice. "Is it just me or are we getting old looks?" Mikey muttered.
"The focus isn't on us though." Donnie hushed.
Master Splinter stopped and looked over his shoulder and smiled. "It is due to our young friend Miss Evelyn's presence. The last human to visit this realm was my Master Yoshi, and was only resent due to the games. The only other human like presence is that of the royal family." The grey rat explained, resting both hands on his walking stick.
"So…you're saying that these people think Evie could be royalty?" Gravaturtle spoke up.
Master Splinter chuckled and nodded. "Seen as she's not a warrior they more than likely think she's connected to the Daimio in some way."
Evie blushed. "G-great." She muttered, hiding more behind Leo and tensing her shoulders like she could disappear from sight if she made herself small enough.
Leo looked to Don, Mikey and Raph, none of them had ever heard Evie stutter. Been loud, yes. Mutter, sure. But stutter, that really showed how nervous she was. Gravaturtle then came forward, unclipping his cape and draping it on the girl's shoulders to act like a shield, a robe almost to conceal most of her form from view.
Evie's shoulders slackened as she looked over her shoulder at the turtle, who just gave small smile. "This should help."
The brunet smiled and nodded. Leonardo looked to his hero self with a grateful smile before following right after Splinter, Evie keeping up and taking his hand again, using her other to hold the cape together. It helped to blend in a little, which the human was very thankful for, and due to the calmer walk, they made it to the palace sooner. Upon reaching the gates, the Samurai dressed guards took one look at Splinter and his sons, and immediately opened the gates.
Evie sucked in a breath as she slowed her pace, following the guys through, looking up and around at the colossal stadium. Leo's fought here, so did Master Splinter and his Master Yoshi, and the guys…Mikey even won… The seriousness of the situation and that fact, that the people she cared for were so lethal and had fought in such life threatening conditions, made her a little uneasy with worry.
The other turtles seemed to look on in wonder also, observing their surroundings as the elderly rat continued to lead the group through the fighting grounds, and into the palace itself. At the grant architecture and ancient interior designing, Evie couldn't help but pause several times to marvel at the tapestries and pure skilled craftsmanship.
"Why the hell didn't I bring my camera?! This place is beautiful!" The English girl whined, trying hard to look everywhere at once, making the group of turtles and a one rat chuckle.
"Oh-oh, Evie's in art mode." Donnie taunted.
"We've lost her forever. Sorry to have to tell ya that bro." Mikey jointed in, slapping Leo heartily on the shell.
Leo rolled his eyes and took the girls hand again to capture her attention. He smiled and felt pleasure well at seeing her so wide eyed and in wonder, clearly enjoying the visit already. "I'll show you around later, and if you want we can even visit again if it's ok with the Daimio. But for now we better keep moving. We're here for a purpose after all." Leo assured, smirking as the younger teen flushed in embarrassment.
"I can't help it if I become inspired." Evie pouted and looked away. "Wish I had my sketchpad and kit, I could sit in just one space for hours coming up with new ideas from these pieces."
Leo laughed and pulled her along as the group began moving again. "Later." He promised, helping them catch up quickly.
Evie sighed but relented, following obediently but still allowed her eyes to wonder around the place, until they came to magnificently beautiful dark wooden doors blocked their route. But only for a short moment before the guards once again made way for them, and they were led into what must have been a 'court hall'.
"Daimio." Master Splinter spoke respectfully, bowing to the large white haired man sat atop a small dais.
The man reminded Evie of the war lords she read about in old books about Japan. The man was heavily wrinkled, with long flowing snow hair, from both the top of his head and from his weathered face as well. But the man still looked strong, even in his late years, with his shoulders looking large with shoulder guards and a complementing kimono style robe, and a red cape behind him. Beside him sat a young boy, roughly 13 or so, Evie estimated, with bright red hair and piercing green eyes, and like his father, pointed ears. The boy was dressed well, wearing dark blues that brought out his pale skin. And on the old man's other side was a floating…masked…see-through man…with a paddle…wearing baggy pants and sandals over socks… What the hell?!
"Splinter-san, and his honourable sons, welcome! It is good to see you old friend." The Daimio boomed, his thundering voice fitting every bit the criteria of the legendary leader the guys made him out to be.
"Leonardo-san." The boy smiled, standing gracefully from his seat to approach Leo with a grin, then bowed. "Welcome back."
Evie watched with a secret smile as Leo grinned kindly and bowed back. "It's good to see you, young friend." The turtle smirked and ruffled the boy's hair lightly. "You've grown since I last saw you."
The boy nodded proudly, standing a little straighter with his arms back and his chest out. "I'm training hard to be as good of a warrior as you Leonardo-san." Evie had to bite her lip from grinning like a Cheshire cat at how adorable Leo was with the little boy, Leo didn't fail to notice and had to fight off heat raising in his cheeks.
Master Splinter then began to explain the situation to the Daimio, as the group stepped off a little to allow them to talk, but the boy followed Leo like a little puppy- Evie could practically see floppy ears and a wagging tail. At the mental image and seeing how the boy looked up at Leo so admiringly, she had to turn away to hide her laughter, only earning a glare from her reptilian boyfriend.
"What?" Evie asked defensively, still smiling.
"Stop laughing." He simply muttered.
"But it's so cute…" Evie grinned, taking Leo's hand and squeezing it as a silent apology, an action the little boy looked on in curiosity.
"I haven't met you before," He wondered aloud them smiled cheerfully. "Are you a friend of Leonardo-san's?"
Evie smiled to the boy and nodded, ready to reply, when Leo himself spoke up. "She's a very special, dear friend." He side simply, this time blushing for real as he looked over to his father.
Evie looked up at him in surprise before breaking out into a cheeky grin, clearly happy with his answer. "Yep, I hang out a lot with Leo-san, so I hope I get to hang out with you too."
At this the little boy beamed and nodded enthusiastically.
