Chapter Twenty-Nine:
Talking Amongst One Another
(Damn the Luck…For Shadow)
The water was running down her back, hot and soothing to the skin and muscles.
"Who's Peter?"
She sighed as her fiancé stood just behind the curtain with nothing but a towel around his waist.
"He's the other preschool teacher," Sarah answered, washing off the body wash.
"And?"
"Did you not hear the guy? He has a girlfriend, Sonic."
Sonic sighed, getting his toothbrush while the water turned off. Sarah reached for her towel but nothing was there. She glared from around the curtain.
"Sonic."
Sonic was trying not to smirk as he brushed his teeth. Sarah didn't think it was as funny. "Where's my towel."
"Around my waist," The Blue Blur somehow said with the toothbrush in his mouth.
Sarah glared. "Do you want me to call my dad?"
Sonic stared at her and there was hint of anger but it was clouded by amusement. "No…"
"Then," she didn't dare finish her sentence. Instead, she grabbed his towel and wrapped it around her form before walking out of the shower with her nose up in the air.
"Awww, you're no fun."
Sarah watched him put his toothbrush away and rinse his mouth. "I am not in the mood for your childish games."
"God, you sound like Shadow. Lighten up," Sonic scoffed.
The female huffed and reached for her toothbrush in the same cup as Sonic's. Sonic sighed and kissed her cheek. "I'm sorry."
Sarah shrugged and put her toothpaste on her toothbrush. "Whatever."
"Why do you do that?" Sonic whispered but harshly so he wasn't yelling and so that Sarah was the only one to surely hear.
Sarah shrugged again. "I don't know."
The blue hedgehog sighed and reached for her pill bottles. "You haven't even used these."
"Are we really going to have an argument now?"
"You ate that sandwich or whatever it was that had peanut butter in it—you know you're allergic."
"Fine," Sarah grabbed the pill bottle and took one out, putting it in her mouth, she watched as Sonic watched her.
When she was done she raised her eyebrows at him. "Happy?"
"Not fully," Sonic wrapped his arms around her waist as he buried his nose in the crook of her shoulder.
She tugged at the towel around her body. "Sonic…"
The blue hedgehog purred and kissed her shoulder. "You've shut me out…"
Sarah rolled her eyes. "We are not doing this now, nor are we talking about it."
"Why not?" Sonic wailed quietly.
"One: My dad is just outside in the living room. Two: I don't want to. And three: Because I said so."
"Those are all pretty logical," Sonic admitted.
He gave her shoulder one last kiss before grabbing his pajama pants and slipping them on as she brushed her teeth. He pulled on a black shirt through his quills with some difficulty like usual.
Once he was done, he turned to her and noticed she had on her light blue nightgown that was silk, including the matching robe. He smiled and planted a kiss on her lips softly.
"We need to register at a store," Sarah said.
Sonic nodded in conformity, "When?"
"Tomorrow."
"Don't you have school?" Sonic quested, raising an eyebrow plus holding her waist.
"No, there's no school tomorrow," she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I'm sure you're pleased about that."
She smiled a crooked smile which made Sonic chuckle. He turned and opened the door, instantly met with a glaring Clark.
But not even Papa Bear would ruin Sonic's mood.
Legally Blonde.
Why in the world did he have that movie?
Technically, Sarah probably bought it on one of her shopping sprees. And she'd most likely walk out with it too after she finally moved out of his house and into her own with her aggravating fiancé.
Shadow sighed, opening his eyes and watching the movie. "How is this significant to life?"
"It's about law, that's significant," Amy shushed him, whacking his shoulder while eating the chip.
He glanced at the container in the dark living room. Lay's Stax Sour Cream & Onion was written on the cylinder package along with a picture of the chip and some dip. He continued on staring at the container before something popped up in his head.
Those are mine too…just like that fruit salad…they're both mine…
Why do these people keep showing up and taking my food!?
He heard Manic jumped as the phone rang. He picked it up hurriedly, almost dropping it countless times. "Hello?"
Amy watched the green hedgehog with a serious gaze, sitting on one of the couches, facing the TV though. Shadow was sitting behind her, having the rose hedgehog in his lap. Sonic and Sarah were buddied up with them and shared the rest of the loveseat.
On the three person couch was Manic, Sunny was in his lap, and then Silver and Blaze together with Lewis at the end as the single person. Benjie was already asleep in his sleeping bag in the main room where Aleena was asleep on one of the comfy couches. Clark was in the rocking chair and Esperanza was somewhere in the house, last time Shadow checked.
If Clark hadn't left, that most likely meant Esperanza hadn't either.
Damn the luck…
"Yeah, she's right here," Manic tossed the phone to Amy who glared at him before sweetly smiling.
"Hello? ROUGE!" she stood up in a hurry that most of the chips were knocked to the floor.
Shadow mentally groaned while he stared at the food on the once-clean carpet.
Damn the luck again…
"Rouge, hi!" Amy almost squealed until Sonic hit her leg with his foot.
She glared at him but was met with a similar fierce look. She turned away and walked into the kitchen, talking away. Shadow then went back to watching the movie until someone's feet were on his lap. He turned and saw Sarah's feet on his knees. She was contently watching the TV with Sonic.
He sighed and tickled her feet in an attempt to get them off. Sarah gradually turned to him. "My feet aren't ticklish."
Shadow frowned.
Well, that's not fair. I'm not having any luck tonight.
"Could you remove your feet, nonetheless?"
"Nope," Sarah turned her gaze back to the TV.
Shadow could already see Sonic's smirk from the corner of his eye. Oh, how he wanted to smack that blue hedgehog one day—and smack him good. Maybe into the next state…or country…or planet, whichever one would do.
...Hm…but I prefer the planet.
Amy hopped back onto his lap after Sarah moved her feet promptly. "Guess what?"
"Let me guess."
"…"
"…"
"…"
"To slow," Amy interrupted the silence. "Rouge and Knuckles are at Tails' place now!"
"So…that would mean?" Shadow asked slowly, not really paying any awareness to the female for once.
Amy hit his shoulder another time. "They're here and we get to spend time with them tomorrow!"
"You could come with us," Sonic said. "Sarah and I are just registering at whatever store we can find…"
"You haven't already?" Amy questioned, glimpsing at the engaged couple alongside to her.
Sarah shrugged. "Didn't have the time, I was busy correcting the kids' papers. I'm glad you guys came in today or I would've been stumped for the rest of the school year."
Sonic kissed her forehead which made Clark huff and turn away. "So, once we decide on what store—we'll go do that."
"Tomorrow?"
"No school tomorrow—and though I should be there, I'm skipping my work time for the hell of it," Sarah shrugged again and stared at the TV.
There was silence while they seemed to ponder through it.
"I'm in," Blaze said.
Amy was in Shadow's truck again. Along with Shadow, of course. But instead of Manic, there was Benjie. Tails was driving Cream, Knuckles, Rouge and the twins to town in his Dodge Durango that he had in the garage and would rarely drive.
Sonic was in his truck with Sarah, Lewis, Manic and Sunny while Silver and Blaze were entrusted to take Sarah's precious car.
Amy turned up the radio and leaned against Shadow. The ebony hedgehog leant back so she could be more comfortable.
"Shadow?"
"Hm?"
"I enjoyed our date the other night…"
"Good," he replied.
"I don't know about you gone for a week though," Amy pouted.
Shadow smirked softly.
Finally, some reaction from her.
"And why's that?"
The rose hedgehog shifted in her seat as he reached for the stick. He pulled it upward and drove down the highway.
Thank God it actually started working this morning.
"No dates for a week," Amy stated. "Then again, I could always find someone else…"
She was toying with him. And he knew it.
He softly glared at the road ahead, his eyebrows furrowing. "We could Skype."
"You don't have a laptop," Amy shrugged sadly.
Or, pretended to. Shadow wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "We could talk on the phone."
"It's just not the same," the pink hedgehog dramatically replied.
Shadow snorted. "And why's that?"
"That must be your favorite question today unlike, 'What are you doing?', hm?" Amy giggled.
"Either way, you still haven't answered it."
"I guess I just need to hear your voice and see you at the same time," Amy sounded like someone in a play, saying her lines as if she were love.
Hmph…
"Why do you need to see me?" Shadow asked grumpily.
Amy put her fingers on his chest which made his body shiver. She unbuttoned the first button and made small circle movements on his chest. His body only answered in a quiver of excitement which made him curse mentally.
"How can I bare to not see this perfect body?" she whispered in his ear.
Shadow blushed which caused her to giggle softly and continue, "How can I live to not see your handsome face? The way your jaw curves," she followed the bone with one finger. "The way your nose arcs up at the edge…" she put her pinky on his nose, still holding his jaw with one finger as well. "The way your eyes are angled," she said.
He raised a brow, glancing at her.
"The way those gorgeous red eyes soften up or narrow," she caressed his jaw with her hand, letting go of his nose with her pinky.
He looked back to the road, his ears flattening against his head. She flicked it softly and whispered into it. "The way your ears go back when you're embarrassed…or angry…or apologetic."
His red eyes found her green and she leaned in a bit. Shadow stared at her before someone else coughed.
"Yeah, Sarah? Can you get me out of this truck—these two are being lovebirds and I don't wanna see it."
Shadow glared at Benjie, who had called his sister, as Amy's cheeks flushed. She backed away, letting go of him completely and grabbing her phone, pretending to never had said the things she just did.
Shadow sat straight again, focusing on the road.
First Sonic, now Benjie…
…I still have no good luck!
"Bed Bath & Beyond," Sonic read the sign as he unbuckled. "Well, if the guys get bored, you'll know that we're in Sportsman's Warehouse."
Sarah gave him a look that said, 'Don't even start that.'
When they got out, Sonic stretched and watched Shadow get out with Amy. Benjie had practically thrown himself out. Lewis, Manic and Sunny were right behind Sonic while the blue hedgehog walked over to his friend/rival. Silver got out from the driver's side of Sarah's car while Blaze met up with him from the passenger side.
They stood together, huddled up on the cold morning in a big group. Sonic glanced around and sighed, "Anyone nervous?"
"We're only seeing Rouge and Knuckles again," Sarah said. "Some of us have seen the twins."
"What are their names again?" Silver hopped in place.
"Dex and Derrick," Amy replied, seeing her own breath.
"Why'd we come so early?" Lewis whined, throwing his head back towards the sky.
Sarah rolled her eyes. "It's nearly eleven, it's just cold."
"Freezing," Manic huddled up with Sunny who giggled, her cheeks were rosy pink from the breeze.
Tails' Dodge Durango was black and screeched to a halt in front of them. He hopped out and swung his keys from the long keychain as Cream opened the back door. They were right in front of the group; literally, Shadow could've sworn they almost nicked Sonic's jeans. Amy was in the front now, smiling as she noticed Rouge come out first.
The bat smiled and wrapped the pink hedgehog in a giant hug. "It's so good to see you in person again!" Rouge squealed.
Amy laughed, "You too!"
"Hey, where's my hug?"
Amy gasped, turning to glomp Knuckles in a matter of seconds. "HI!"
"Hey, there," the echidna nervously laughed.
"AUNTIE AMY!"
Amy let go of Knuckles immediately as the two young bats came in from the back of the SUV and hugged her together. She grinned. "You guys are so big!"
"I'm taller!" Dex said.
"Nah uh!" Derrick jumped up. "I am!"
Rouge and Knuckles both chuckled before turning to the group. Sonic walked forward and sighed contently. "Well…"
"Listen, Sonic," Rouge started but the hedgehog held up his hand.
He winked at her and smiled. "Don't worry about it, Rouge…Now…do I get a hug?"
The bat smirked and hugged the hero tightly before shoving him aside. Sonic chuckled, giving Knuckles one of those one-arm hugs that men do. Rouge made a dashing leap towards Shadow who screamed like a little girl.
"SHADOW!"
"AHHHH!"
The ebony hedgehog waited until Rouge let go from the hug that could match Amy's. Rouge smirked. "Now, now…I know things have changed but you'll always be my partner," she let go and stood straight until Blaze came up.
They shared a laugh and a hug like usual until Silver ran over to the bat dramatically. "Oh, Rouge! I thought you had forgotten about me!" he landed on his knees as the group stared at him, "All those cold nights without you! I hope you were thinking about me, like I was thinking about you!"
Rouge smirked, placing her hands on her hips. "I wish I could say the same."
Lewis snorted along with Manic. Silver glared at them for a second but stood up and sighed, holding his arms slightly. "Okay, okay, whatever…"
Rouge hugged him gently before turning to the newcomers. "Manic," she stared at the green hedgehog. "Is that you?"
Manic chuckled, scratching his head. "You better believe it."
Rouge trapped him into a hug while Knuckles was greeted from the others. Sonic clapped his hands and rubbed them together while the group had all eyes on him.
"Rouge, I don't think you've formally met everyone that's here."
Rouge swayed her hip to the side. "I guess not."
Sonic chuckled while Sunny was pushed forward by Manic. The female hedgehog smiled nervously. "H-Hi…"
"Well, speak up, hun, I ain't got all day!" Rouge giggled, her wings folded back against her blue shirt.
Sunny blushed though it didn't really matter seeing as her cheeks were already red from the wind. "Hi…"
Manic rolled his eyes and stepped up beside her. "She's Sunny, my girlfriend."
Rouge nodded while Knuckles shook hands with her. Sunny was trembling from how nervous she was. She had to admit, these two intimidated her. Rouge twisted around to Lewis and Benjie. Benjie nodded. "Sup…"
Lewis waved shyly. "Hi…"
Rouge rolled her eyes. "You two have names?"
"They're my brothers," Sarah stepped up. "Benjie and Lewis," she motioned to each one. "I'm Sarah, as you've seen before."
Rouge nodded and looked her up and down. "You're definitely different than I thought…I wouldn't have thought Sonic would go for girls more…"
Sarah tilted her head while Rouge finished, "…independent."
Knuckles smiled at her anyway. "And these two troublemakers are Dexter and Derrick," he walked over to the youngsters still by their auntie.
"Dex!" one shouted out.
"You can't really tell a difference," Silver stated, staring at them.
"Duh, they're twins," Rouge sarcastically replied to the white hedgehog.
She earned a glare for that one.
"It's not hard to tell," Knuckles shrugged. "Dex is louder and Derrick's more to himself but that doesn't mean he can't destroy anything or be just as obnoxious as his brother."
One of the black bats smiled up at him with their mother's eyes. Rouge smiled at the scene and blinked, getting out of it just as soon as she had seen it. "Alright, so…what are we doing here exactly?"
"Sarah and I are registering here," Sonic pointed at the store behind them.
"Well, then, let's go!" Rouge gleefully grabbed Dex's hand and walked towards the store.
Amy held his other hand while also holding Derrick's with her left. Derrick was holding onto Knuckles right.
"One, two, three!" Dex cheered as the three adults lifted the twins up into the air before setting them back down just as quickly.
The cycle repeated until Amy's arms felt like they were going to fall off. Knuckles grabbed a cart and put the two troublemakers inside it.
"Let's go shoppin'!" the echidna raced off, pushing the cart.
Rouge linked arms with Amy. "So, how is Mr. Doom and Gloom, Mrs. Doom and Gloom?"
Amy giggled. "Just fine, Mrs. Echidna."
Rouge waved her off with a snort as they walked through the first large aisle. "I ain't married to him…yet."
(I hope most of you have been to Bed Bath & Beyond. I really don't feel like explaining this…but oh, well…here it goes…)
Tall shelves that reached the ceiling were covered from things like kitchen supplies to bed sheets. Some stuff was in those containers like at Pet Smart where the toys were all jumbled together or in Walmart where all the five dollar movies were.
Blaze reached for a back scratcher while Cream studied something in a box. "Glow-in-the-dark nail polish," Cream hummed and raised her eyebrows. "That's pretty cheap…"
"How many do you get?" Blaze practically threw the scratcher back in the tub and looked at the box of nail polish, "OOOH!" Blaze ripped it out of Cream's grasp, "Pretty colors!"
"Hey!" Cream put her hands on her hips. "Silver, your girlfriend took the box out of my hands!"
The white hedgehog blinked at her. "Is it yours?"
"Well, no, but it's not her's either!" Cream tried grabbing it back.
"Then it's up for grabs, besides, there are like fifty more in front of you!" Silver pointed his hand at the tub.
Cream pouted but grabbed one, "Fine."
Silver shrugged it off, walking with Benjie down a group of small shelved aisles.
(I know I'm not setting up a very visual scene for you but…oh, well.)
Silver looked at a machine that was round but had a monkey face on it and was brown to make it look like a really fat monkey. "What the hell is this?"
"Some…conditioner or something for a baby," Benjie said. "I think it's like some air conditioner thing."
"It's squirting out water," Silver said.
"But very lightly so it turns into like…a mist type of water-humidifier?" Benjie guessed.
Silver shook his head and walked past the five other similar objects before turning into another aisle. Big shelf on his left, smaller shelves on his right—big shelf going his direction, smaller shelves looking like they would ram him into the big shelf.
Benjie glanced up at the useless objects. "Why did we come to this store?"
Silver shrugged, holding a candy bar, "Chocolate?"
"No, thanks, I'm on a diet," Benjie kept looking at the big shelf.
…Right up until Silver almost died laughing.
~~~.~~~
"How long does it take to register?" Manic asked his girlfriend, waiting in a different aisle full of pots and pans.
Sunny shrugged, holding a giant black pan. "I don't know, I've never been engaged."
Manic chuckled and picked up a red pan and twirled it on his fingers. "Did I ever tell ya I was in a band?"
"With your siblings?" Sunny giggled as he pretended to play the drums, "Millions of times."
"Then I'll say it again! I was in a band!" Manic cheered as he hummed and sang nonsense.
~~~.~~~
"Give it!"
"Never!"
Cream had only last a few seconds after Silver left until she nearly tackled Blaze for the box, despite all the ones in front of her.
Now, the rabbit was given a piggy back from Blaze who was holding out the box so Cream wouldn't get it. It was an unwanted piggy back.
~~~.~~~
Shadow looked at the bobble head tiredly. It had been another one of those nights, with Amy in nothing but undergarments and an oversized T-shirt.
I knew it…she's trying to kill me.
Apparently something else was happening too.
Everyone was splitting up with someone else and Shadow hadn't gotten the memo sooner than later and now he was stuck with Lewis. Not like that was a bad thing it was just…a bad thing.
Lewis had an attention span of a two year old.
First he was over at the cutting boards, then he was at the coffee mugs, then he was at the beds and then he was at bobble heads. Shadow knew it was a matter of time before they found themselves at the towels. Though, the ebony hedgehog wished they had stayed at the beds.
He looked forward down the aisle and could see the light shining on a white bed. Its pillows were fluffed up, the sheets were made and it was calling Shadow's name while that Hallelujah song was playing.
"Shadow! Shadow!"
Now what does he want?
Shadow frowned, searching for Lewis.
"Shadow! Shadow!"
Wait a minute…that sounds like…me. Oh, no…
"Oh, yes, Shadow! So look over here, windbag!"
Shadow growled at himself. Only…the tiny, Devil him. Devil Shadow had his arms folded and looked as if he were pouting.
"I'm not a windbag."
"Of course not," Angel Shadow appeared. "What you say can be valued."
"What?" Shadow raised an eyebrow at him.
"Obviously, Devil Shadow has taken a toll on you," Angel Shadow replied. "For you do not know what windbag means."
"It's a musical instrument last time I checked," Shadow shrugged.
Devil Shadow started laughing, doubling over on Shadow's shoulder. "HA! This is the 21st century, pal! Windbag is supposed to be an insult for someone who talks too much and what comes out of his or her mouth is unvalued!"
Shadow blinked. "I find no purpose in that word whatsoever."
Devil Shadow waved him off with a glare. "Bah! You're no fun!"
"I am too!"
"Shadow!"
Devil Shadow and Angel Shadow suddenly left and Lewis was staring at him like he had lost his mind.
"Are you okay?"
Shadow blinked again, looking back at the bed. "I'll be right back…"
Lewis watched him wonder off for a second before seeing the towels. "Ooh!"
~~~.~~~
Beep!
"I don't see why," Sarah shrugged, holding out the device to a pot.
Beep!
Sonic sighed. "She's an old friend of mine."
"Yeah, one you used to date. I'm not sure people who are getting married would invite their ex's to the wedding," Sarah replied.
Sonic held his little beeping device (not sure what it's called) in his hand lazily. "Sarah," he whined.
"Don't," she cut him off. "Sonic, why do you want her to come anyway?"
"We broke it off mutually," Sonic replied. "We were still friends until I moved out here and then we lost touch," he wondered around with his soon-to-be-wife. "Besides, she's dating someone else."
"I thought you said you lost touch," Sarah narrowed her eyes at him.
Sonic wouldn't fall for that trap. He shook his head. "Meaning last time I saw her."
"Who was she dating?"
Sonic shrugged with a look that said, 'I don't know'. Sarah gave him the put-hand-on-hip-and-tap-your-toe-while-giving-a-de ath-glare look.
"I don't know," Sonic replied. "I never really met him."
"How do you know she wasn't trying to get you jealous so you would go back to her?"
Sonic looked at the wall with narrowed eyebrows. "You think so?"
Sarah growled, stomping away from Sonic. The blue hedgehog raised an eyebrow at her as Lewis stood beside him. "What's got into her?" Lewis asked.
"Beats me," Sonic shrugged. "C'mon," he led the way to the cutting board and other kitchen supplies.
~~~.~~~
"He what?" Amy looked around the corner.
"Wants some old friend of his to come to the wedding," Sarah waved Amy off, looking at the glassware.
"What's wrong with that?" the pink hedgehog asked as Knuckles zoomed by with the twins in the cart.
Rouge sighed, staring after her boyfriend and kids. "Did you miss the part where he told Sarah 'female'?"
"She's his ex-girlfriend," Sarah answered. "And I don't want her to come because…"
"You think Sonic would fall for her again," Amy nodded. "I'd be like that too, but maybe we're both just possessive."
Sarah snorted. "Well then, how about I just invite all my ex-boyfriends?"
Rouge hummed and looked at her nails. "That would be a hoot, wouldn't it?"
"You know it," Sarah smirked. "I wonder who she is anyway…"
Amy glanced at Rouge who caught her look. The pink hedgehog shrugged, leaning against the shelf while staring at Sarah. "Never knew he dated."
~~~.~~~
"Give it to me!"
"Stop! It's mine!"
"Back off!"
"Never!"
"You didn't even pay for it!"
"…Neither did you!"
THUD!
~~~.~~~
"So…you're a vegetarian?"
"No," Benjie stated. "For the fifteenth time, I'm just on a diet."
"…With no chocolate?" Silver leaned against the shelf of chocolate bars.
"Yes."
"So you can eat chocolate?"
"No."
"…So you don't?"
"Silver," Benjie growled, looking at the power outlets.
The white hedgehog put his hands up. "Okay, okay."
THUD!
"Blaze, keep it down!" Silver hissed behind him as Blaze ran into the shelf with Cream still on her back.
The purple cat was still holding both the rabbit and the package of nail polish. Cream looked like she was strangling her almost. Silver's ears pricked towards the sound of Tails' footsteps. He smirked and met the blue eyes of the fox.
"I'd ask…" Tails pointed at the girls working their way down the small aisle towards the men. "…But honestly, I'm too scared."
"I would be too," Silver said as Tails took a seat on one of the seats.
They were still at the beginning of the store—having not gotten anywhere in the last couple of minutes. Benjie was staring at thing on the tall shelves that reached the ceiling and Silver was watching the girls next to the chocolate and chairs (with some desks).
"I tried stopping 'em but I don't think it'll help anything," Silver stated, still staring at the girls. "I'm still trying to figure out what's so special about that one box of nail polish."
~~~.~~~
"Manic?"
"Hm?"
"Have you seen any of the others?"
"Yeah, Silver's with some of them and-"
Sunny and Manic stopped in the middle of the aisle. They stared at Shadow who was under the sheets of the white bed. Manic tilted his head and looked down the next main aisle—no body. He turned around and glanced back—no body.
He hummed and sauntered over to the ebony hedgehog, snoring with some drool coming out. "And Shadow's asleep."
Sunny walked on the left side of the bed while Manic was across from her. They both stared down at Shadow…just stared. Nothing too special about the Ultimate Life Form having a nap.
Manic heaved a sigh and put his hands in his jean pockets. "Well…what are we gonna do?"
"What do you mean?" Sunny snorted.
"About him," Manic motioned towards Shadow.
"He's not my concern," Sunny walked around the bed. "Yes, I'm sure he's a good friend but he's a grown man. Just let him sleep, we'll get him later."
Manic hesitantly followed Sunny down the aisle of the store, looking back at Shadow once in awhile until they turned the corner again, passing everything from beds to bathroom supplies—also a certain bat and pink hedgehog.
~~~.~~~
"Do you think we should tell her?" Amy looked at Sarah who was walking with Sonic again—they seemed to be on good terms after just bumping into one another.
"I'm surprised Sonic didn't, really," Rouge looked at the blow dryers with interest, holding a box up once in awhile. "I mean, Sonic doesn't seem like the one to keep secrets."
"I'm sure he doesn't," Amy reassured herself more than the bat. "It's just…how come Sarah wouldn't know about her?" the pink hedgehog turned to Rouge.
Rouge shrugged in response at first, putting a box back to look at the toothbrushes. "Beats me, Amy, really does. I haven't been here a full day and I'm already caught in drama."
"Nobody said it was drama," Amy put her hand up to motion it downwards.
"Yet," Rouge walked around the aisle and glimpsed amongst the lamps. "Please, ex-girlfriend being invited to a wedding? Hm, maybe Sonic does keep secrets. Maybe she'll come back and win him over with just one look and Sarah will be left at the altar."
"She was a good girlfriend…but Sonic's with Sarah now," Amy whispered as Sonic and Sarah passed by them from a few feet and into the towel section. "Once we're done here, maybe we should talk to Sonic about it."
"How?"
"Sportsman's Warehouse is just right here. It's an outlet like Pet Smart and Jo-Ann's. The girls could just go to T.J. Maxx and we could corner Sonic and talk to him about why he wants her to be there."
"Yes, but her isn't really a big issue," Rouge crouched down for a second before standing straight after looking at a box of hair clips. "Nor is she our issue. If Sarah doesn't want her to come to the wedding, Sonic should think twice and figure out if Sarah's more important than her."
"More important than whom?"
"Ah!" Amy jumped as she stared at Sonia. "Sonia! What are you doing here?"
"Manic texted me," Sonia replied, carrying Jeffery on her hip. "We decided we had nothing better to do and come down here to hang out."
Amy nodded. "Right, well, Rouge this is Sonia, Sonic's sister—remember?"
"Nope," Rouge hugged the hedgehog anyway. "Who's this?" The bat instantly went 'Best Mother of the Year' towards Jeffery.
"This is Jeffery," Sonia replied. "My husband, Flame is over there with our daughter Petunia," she continued, motioning to Flame who was talking to Lewis in the aisle by the cashiers.
"Right," Rouge glanced at the two newcomers for a second before Sonia brought their attention back to the matter at hand.
"Who's more important than Sarah to my brother?" Sonia blinked.
"What?" Amy pretended with blinking.
Sonia rolled her eyes. "You can't fool me, Amy. Who were you talking about just now?"
Rouge sighed, putting her elbow up on the shelf and rubbing between her nose. "Okay…your brother wants his ex-girlfriend to come to his wedding that he's having with his current fiancée. Is that a problem?"
"Depends who the ex-girlfriend is."
Amy gaped and leaned in towards Sonia. "Sonic had more than one girlfriend before Sarah?"
"Hey, I've heard Sarah had, like, three or four. But yes, Sonic had two. There was Mina who's married to Ash now; I'm friends with her on Facebook."
"Oh, God, could Sonic be talking about her?" Amy dreaded. "Or be talking about Mina?"
"Wait," Sonia halted to a stop with her thoughts. "Sonic wants…"
"Her," Rouge spat out, literally.
"To come to the wedding," Amy finished. "And we have no clue why."
Jeffery whined to grab something from a giant shelf. Sonia would usually stop him but she was busy gaping. "B-But…that…no, she can't come! She'll…he'll have feelings for her again—she's like a death sentence for him!"
"Ugh," Amy moaned, putting her head in her hands. "What are we gonna do? We can't just tell Sonic not to—that'd be mean!"
"Would it?"
They turned to Rouge. The bat hummed while pondering. "Would it be really rude to tell the groom he couldn't invite his ex-girlfriend to his wedding?"
"Maybe…" Sonia raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Worse…what if the groom fought back—kept pressing the matter?" Rouge leaned in.
Amy swallowed and stared at the bat intently. "…I see how you strive with being a journalist."
Rouge pulled back with a shrug and put her hand on her hip. "Just questions I ask and answers I want to know."
They watched the bat walk away, swaying her hips. Amy blinked before glimpsing at Sonia. Jeffery babbled nonsense to himself, holding something from the giant shelf that he had got his chubby hands on.
"What are we going to say?" Sonia inquired at the pink hedgehog, watching Sonic from across the aisle.
"Should we tell Sarah that we lied and actually knew Sonic was in a relationship?" Amy asked herself, starting to pace. "Should we say anything at all?"
"Hmm…"
"Should we at least say we know about her?" Amy stared at Sarah who was giggling as Sonic tickled her near the towels.
"Knowing my brother," Sonia leaned against a shelf after setting Jeffery down, narrowed eyes watching Sonic, "…something tells me it won't be long until we see Sally Acorn."
Okay, I quickly did this at the ending because I had, like, half of it typed up but I've had writer's block for ages, it feels like and not to mention my new obsession with Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in it.(Benedict Cumberbatch has got to be my new celeb crush. XD) It's the bomb, check it out! So addicting—one of the main reasons besides writer's block and other things. Also, starting school this Wednesday but I'll try and continue writing this…what's the word? …Um…smoothly? Nope, that's not it. Well, I'll get back to you on it when I figure out the word! =P
So, if you want, review—I usually answer back to those who aren't always like, 'I love this!' or 'Update! Update!' and to those who actually say meaningful things with what they actually think throughout the story.
Ciao!
