Chapter 28: The Medallion Calls
"What do you mean?" Bryan demanded.
Everyone was serious, worry evident.
Kai took a few moments to catch his breath.
"We need to… tell the others…" Kai choked out. "Let's meet… in Oliver's room."
The White Tigers and the Demolition Boys nodded their heads, all of them going off in different directions. Gary accompanied Kai back to Oliver's room, where Enrique was lying on the bed, still unconscious. Gary placed Ray on the bed and they waited for the rest of their friends to come.
…..
"It would seem the Dark Bitbeasts have Oliver," Sanguinex said.
"Should we go and help him?" Zomb asked.
"No. We should wait for our new friends to make a move. After all, with Oliver in the Dark Bitbeasts' possession, it would be easy for the others to get to him."
"Heh," Lupinex said. "The things we do to ensure we'll be able to survive the apocalypse."
…..
Oliver groaned as he opened his eyes. He instantly regretted it.
He was surrounded by shadows, all of them watching him with their multi-coloured eyes. The only colours he didn't see were green and gold. Which meant neither Black Dranzer nor Phantom Driger were there.
'You're awake,' the Bitbeast he knew as Lucia said. 'Lovely.'
"What do you want?" Oliver asked, looking around. He could see no way that he'd be able to get out of that situation.
'You know what we want,' the one he remembered as Anubis said.
'The question is,' Mordred said, 'how long until we get it?'
"You're not," Oliver said. "I won't let you get the medallion."
'You don't have a choice,' Hecate said. 'Your friends won't be able to save you this time. They don't even know where you are.'
Oliver took that time to see exactly where he was. It appeared to be a cave. And he knew that there were no caves on Robert's grounds. In fact, the closest possibility is over a day's walk away. Realising this, his hope was crushed.
'Make yourself comfortable,' Lucia said. 'It would seem as though you'll be here for a while.'
And with that, the shadows disappeared, leaving Oliver completely alone.
…..
"What happened?" Johnny demanded.
They were all in Oliver's room, with Enrique awake, but Ray was still unconscious.
"Black Dranzer," Kai began. "I don't know how, but he managed to take control of my body."
Bryan's eyes narrowed in thought.
"I don't blame you, Kai," Enrique said, his voice hoarse.
"Then what?" Tyson demanded.
"Black Dranzer threatened Enrique," Kai said, "all so he can get that medallion."
"But then," Enrique said, "a few other Bitbeasts came along. They said something about they all agreed to share, and that Black Dranzer was out of line. And when Oliver launched Unicolyon, Kai started to fight for control."
"And when I got control again, the other Bitbeasts used that opportunity to get Oliver. And now, we don't know where Oliver is."
"As long as he has Unicolyon with him, he should be fine," Max said. "Right?"
"Sure, except…" Kai said, taking a beyblade from his pocket. "He doesn't have Unicolyon with him."
…..
Oliver was a little panicked. Since he was in bed, due to having passed out the previous night, he was without his coat, which usually contained Unicolyon, without any shoes, and without his hat. He felt vulnerable with only his blue pants and yellow shirt.
'Unicolyon,' Oliver thought. 'He's still in the castle. And I don't know where I am. But one thing is certain. I need to find a way to get out of here.'
He started exploring, but no matter where he went, he just couldn't find a way out. And he kept returning to where he started.
In a way, he was lucky that the walls were lined with some sort of luminous moss, but unless they managed to help him out, the only thing they could do was provide light, so that he didn't fall in the darkness. And there was another thing that started to disturb him.
'Why isn't there anything else here?' Oliver wondered. 'Other than the moss, there appears to be no other life here. No bats, no bugs. What's going on here?'
I can answer that, a voice said, before Oliver's awareness faded into darkness.
…..
"This is bad," Kevin said. "Why does everything have to happen to him?"
"It doesn't help us now," Robert said. "We need to find out where Oliver is, right now."
"Think Black Dranzer would know?" Tala asked, looking at Kai.
"Even if he does know something," Kai said, "he wouldn't tell me. He's a little mad right about now."
"How'd those Bitbeasts even come back?" Tyson asked.
"When Oliver used that medallion to get rid of Nate," Kai said, "a price had to be paid. The price was all of our safeties. He didn't know it at the time, so I don't think we can blame Oliver."
A groan caught their attentions, and they all immediately looked over to Ray, whose eyes were opening. The normally lively gold looked dead, as though Ray lost everything.
"I've seen that look before," Lee whispered. "It can't be…"
"Ray?" Mariah said, stepping closer. "Are you okay?"
Ray looked at her, and the girl's face fell. There were tears behind the eyes that were unable to fall.
"He made me relive it," Ray said. "I remember it, like it happened. And he was the one that did it."
Mariah instantly went to hug him, just as Ray started to sob. He cried on her shoulder, leaving the rest to look with a mixture of worry, confusion, and sorrow.
"What happened?" Kai whispered, looking at Lee.
Lee looked over at Ray, who opened his eyes long enough to make eye contact before nodding.
"When Ray was three," Lee began, "he watched as his parents were killed. They were on a picnic, before something attacked them. Ray was completely unharmed, but…"
"He was soaked in their blood," Gary said.
"He'd been out there for hours," Lee said. "Nothing but his parents' corpses as his company before my dad found him. After that…"
Lee drifted off, and no one was able to speak. Ray's sobs were the only things breaking the silence.
"That's horrible," Bryan whispered, looking at Ray.
"He wasn't even able to speak for two years," Lee said.
"Those nightmares," Kai said, realisation hitting him. "The ones where Phantom Driger aren't attacking him. They're about that, aren't they?"
Lee nodded his head.
"Only Lee or Mariah can calm him down when he's like this," Kevin explained. "But, it's never been this bad before."
"And I'm guessing Phantom Driger is responsible for all of this," Tyson said, getting angry.
"No doubt about it," Johnny said. "You know, I'm really starting to hate those Dark Bitbeasts."
"Wait," Ray said, looking at Kai. "Phantom Driger said something about you, Enrique and Oliver being in danger. Well, where's Oliver?"
…..
Oliver found himself in complete and utter darkness.
Glad you could come.
He knew that voice. It was Lucifer. He was communicating with the spirit of the medallion.
"Why couldn't you warn me?" Oliver asked. "Why did you let that happen?"
I don't care what happens. You used me, and you had to pay the price. The safety of your friends was what was most important, so I had to make sure that the Heaven's Stone's effects were nullified, giving access to the Dark Bitbeasts.
"You want them to use your power," Oliver said. "Don't you?"
Like I said, I don't care either way. But, I am curious to know how long it will take before you break. After all, you're still a child, with a lot to live for. You won't be able to last forever.
Oliver knew he was right. He wouldn't be able to last forever, and if he breaks…
Oh, and one more thing. Without that pet pony of yours, you're more at risk than you think. Would you like to know about Pegolyon?
Oliver's eyes widened.
…..
Lucia observed him. He was wearing the medallion so long, that he was able to communicate with the spirit inside. And that worried her.
What lay inside the Medallion of Lucifer was not a Bitbeast, in any shape or form. It was something that would be far darker than anyone gathered with her.
This boy was a bit of a nuisance. Imprisoning one brother, and enslaving the other. She had been following him around for a while now. She had tried to get him to give her the medallion, but Unicolyon interfered, something she could not understand. She also tried to get one of his friends to help her and get the medallion for her, giving him a week to do so, but the Stone was used, and she became so enraged that she would not wait any longer.
As soon as they had the medallion, she would kill the boy. After all, it was either death, or the medallion that would be able to help her brother. And she wasn't in a merciful mood.
…..
"So, he's separated from his friends."
"That's right."
"Should we ask those ghouls whether or not to search for him?"
"Not yet. Let those beasts have their fun. We just need to make sure that he's alive, and that Lucifer remains in his possession. We can go and search for him on our own. But, if any of us feel that his life is in danger, then we will have to interfere."
"And then the boy is ours."
And now, for on to other topics: A few weeks ago, I posted a Hetalia oneshot, and there were a few follows and a review asking to continue. I have recently opened up to the idea of making a continuation, but I want to know if people want me to. So there is a poll on my profile until the 6th December to determine whether or not I continue. So if you're interested, go on and vote.
