I'm glad you all are enjoying my story!
I do not own POTC
Carina and Henry located the X in the sky that would lead them to the Trident. Jack could also see the X in the sky, knowing which constellation she was referring to. She once charted the seas when she was serving under the King, and she even charted the stars in some of her pastimes.
She still did that. It was just something that kept her busy. Perhaps the love for the stars ran in the family.
However, the rest of her crew did not understand what Carina meant by the X. It was slightly annoying them, but Jack easily silenced them with a single glare. She would not let any of her crew insult her daughter's career.
It had turned to daytime, so there were no stars in the sky other than the sun itself. They were going to have to wait until night to locate the map.
"Can we really wait that long to find the map?" Gibbs asked.
"There has to be another way." Jack said, nodding. She looked to Carina, and noticed that she was meddling with something small and metallic. She gestured Gibbs to take the wheel so that she could speak with her daughter.
Carina was leaning against the railing and pointing her thing in the sky. "Hi mom."
"I'm never going to get used to that." Jack muttered.
"Is it fine if I take your last name too? Carina Sparrow kind of has a ring to it."
Jack chuckled. "My actual last name is Teague, but I do agree Sparrow is a lot better. What's that thing you got there?"
Carina grinned. "It's a chronometer, it keeps the exact time in London. I'm making an altitude measurement to the Southern Cross to determine longitude. Only then will we find the spot on the sea!"
Seeing Carina excited like this gave Jack pride. It shocked her to know that she can have such a feeling for someone else. Sometimes she felt it for herself, but never at a scale that would literally fill her stomach up with joy.
Something good did come out of her relationship with Barbossa after all.
"You are a horologist too?" Jack asked. "Impressive. I personally never found the time to study… time."
Carina giggled.
Suddenly, wherever Henry was he made his appearance known. "Salazar!"
Jack straightened. How did they catch up with her ship? Her ship was the fastest in the entire ocean. She looked over the horizon, to where Henry was pointing.
The Silent Mary had managed to cut them off from their course. She was getting closer and closer to them, and Jack knew that they weren't going to get away this time. "The dead won't rest until they get their revenge." Henry stated.
Everyone turned to Jack expectantly. One of her crewmen, however, spoke out of turn, "It's because we have a woman captain and a witch aboard! All that bad luck's finally chased us down."
"Master Gibbs." Jack said, closing her eyes in frustration.
"Aye Captain?"
"Throw him overboard."
The crew followed suit and did as was told.
"One more word like that, and that's what the rest of you get." Jack stated. "I have done nothing but be a good Captain to everybody. We've had good drunk nights, we've had successful loots. I already defeated a few tyrants of the sea. All I'm asking for is that you respect me and my daughter. She is not a witch, but an astronomer. She studies the stars, not magic. One more word of nonsense out of you and you will be sent to the locker. Any questions?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"Good. Back to business."
"Salazar wants you, Jack." Gibbs said, moving to stand in front of her. He looked into her eyes grimly. "There is an island nearby. You can take a lifeboat and go there, while we fend him off."
"I can't leave my ship."
"Come on, Jackie. Let your crew defend our captain. We will hang around nearby to pick you back up." Gibbs said, clapping her shoulder.
"I'm going with her." Carina said, stepping up. "Besides, if you decide to head off without her, you can't find the Trident without me."
Gibbs smirked, and the crew laughed.
"I'm also going." Henry added. He stuttered, "To support them, of course."
Jack was speechless. She sighed and shook her head. "Alright, I'll go. Everyone be careful, stay safe."
As she moved to the lifeboat, Henry and Carina followed suit. She swore that being a Captain also meant being a mother to adult babies.
When they boarded the lifeboat, Henry was the one who suggested he would row. Jack nearly laughed because, he was such a gentleman and it reminded her of William.
The island was already pretty close, but the boat ride was slightly awkward. It was quiet, the sounds of waves easily filling in the silence as well as Carina's page turns. "Carina, they are coming."
Jack resisted the urge to turn in her seat. She did not want to know that the dead were on her heel, so she just looked down to her feet.
"Ghosts," Carina said. "You're both afraid of ghosts."
"I've seen my fair share of the undead." Jack muttered.
"I still do not believe in any of your tales." Carina said.
Jack was about to protest, but Henry stopped rowing. "Don't you see what's headed straight for us?"
Jack watched Carina look behind her shoulder. Jack finally looked as well, finding the Silent Mary was quickly gaining on them, adamantly avoiding the Black Pearl all together. A storm followed the Silent Mary around, an ominous dark cloud with angry bouts of thunder. Seeing the ghost ship unearthed her fear for the undead.
"It's just a very old ship to me, nothing more."
Jack turned to Carina, slightly annoyed at her daughter's braveness. She stood, and began to unbutton her dress. "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" Jack asked. She looked to Henry, who was blushing a deep red already. She kicked his shin so that he could avert his gaze.
"The ship is gaining. Swimming would be quicker."
Jack and Henry watched as she wrapped the book in her cloth, and took a dive into the cold, rough waters.
"I saw her heels!" Henry exclaimed.
"That's about all you'll ever see."
