Night swept across Konoha like wildfire, covering the sky with an onyx blanket sparkled with silver stars. The heat of the day still lingered in the night air as everyone retired to their homes to sleep the night away, resetting their brains so that they could begin a new day with a fresh start.
Those who could fall into the depths of sleep were considered lucky, and this thought lingered in Sakura's mind as she lay awake in her bed, a soft frown sculpting her face.
After Tsunade had dismissed the girls, Sakura had taken Fuu back to her home, offering her an extra bedroll for the night and for the entire duration of her stay in Konoha. After what had happened, she refused to separate herself from her new friend, no matter how safe the village may have been. So, they'd done what all girls would typically do, they'd eaten some take-out and exchanged gossip between their villages. Though, Sakura had blatantly avoided questions about men, jokingly scolding Fuu when she had been asked whether or not she considered a certain somebody to be a ten…whatever that meant.
Then came the hard part of the evening.
She told Fuu everything that Joryoku had told her back during their fight, that Fuu hadn't been the one to finish off her teammates, that she wasn't responsible for their deaths. From his kekkei genkai to his intentions, she'd told her everything she deserved to know, and the evening had ended with tearful hugs and choked thank you's. By the end of the session, the two of them were too emotionally drained to even speak. Fuu had fallen asleep right away, while Sakura on the other hand, had other things on her mind.
Or more specifically, another person in mind.
When she closed her eyes, her mind flashed back to the cave, the stinging and blinding light vivid behind her eyelids as she remembered the tears that fell from her eyes when she heard Sasuke's grunts of pain, shielding her from what she should've endured herself.
And his lips softly crashing down onto hers…her body setting on fire from the sparks that finally had the proper ignition to set off…she never knew that anyone could be so gentle.
She brought her fingers up to her lips, letting them linger there as she lingered on the painful yet blissful memory of their first kiss. Theirs was certainly a unique one, after all, what girl could say that she'd been kissed by the boy she loved while simultaneously being attacked by an enemy? Nobody she knew…that's for sure.
Her eyes hadn't been opened, but if they had been, she would've seen Sasuke's contorted face hanging above her, taking her pain and her chance to shield him. She would've shielded him…she knew that. She wished that she had been able to come to her senses in time so that she could be the one on top, for once she could've taken his pain instead of the other way around, as it had been for years. Even with her new abilities, she felt useless, absolutely and utterly useless.
Turning over in her bed, she buried her face into her pillow and groaned in frustration softly, her voice muffled by her pillow. Why was it that every time she'd managed to get herself out of a situation, it would be Sasuke to get her out of the next one? That wasn't how it was supposed to work! She was a kunoichi damn it! She was supposed to take care of things herself! It wasn't in her job description to have others save her repeatedly. And it was just her luck that she had been cursed with that fate, causing her to take five steps backwards each time she took one forward.
Glaring into her pillow, she sighed with frustration. It was thoughts like these that kept her up all night, haunting her until the very depths of hours she could have used for slumber and chakra replenishing. Hell, she didn't even want to think about chakra, having to had dealt with a chakra stealing bastard for the past week had rendered Sakura exhausted. Closing her eyes, she banished all thoughts of chakra as she focused on her own, calming it and lulling it down to a level that would allow her to finally fall asleep.
And it had begun to work, until she sensed a stray chakra nature that neither belonged to herself or a sleeping Fuu.
Her eyes flew open as she registered the chakra nature seated directly above her, not moving and remaining sedentary. Slowly, she rose from her bed, her head tilted upwards towards the ceiling, her eyes narrowed.
She knew that chakra nature all too well.
Slowly as to not wake Fuu, Sakura pushed her blankets off of her body, swinging her legs over to the side of her bed so that her bare feet met her wooden floors. Rising from her bed, she lightly leaped across her room towards the window, quietly sliding the glass open and jumping out of it, connecting her bare feet to the outside walls of her home.
Sensing that the chakra nature hadn't stirred in the least bit, she took the opportunity to leap up onto her flattened roof, her feet making contact with the cool tiles that reflected the moon above.
She saw him then, standing a few feet away, staring directly at her with a strange look on his face.
Sakura narrowed her eyes at him as a small gust of wind blew into her face, ignoring the chills of anticipation that ran down her skin as he narrowed his eyes at her in return, almost as if they were mirrors of each other.
Finally breaking the silence of the night, Sakura spoke up, her voice drenched with venom.
"What are you doing here, Sasuke-kun?"
A/N: Helloooooo everyone!
Bit of a shorter chapter, but I'm saving some stuff for the next one.
*overly dramatic gasp* Why is Sasuke on Sakura's roof?! Relationship goals? Hmm...
Next chapter will include relationship development..lots of it
So...has anyone read spoilers for the Boruto movie? I have and I can honestly say that I'm completely and utterly dead inside and I can't wait to watch it. This feels like The Last all over again...remember when that was supposed to be the final movie? I'm glad that I was lied to...for once haha.
Bless you all for bearing with me for this long.
See ya next time! Love you to Konoha and back! xx
