Trixie breathed steadily in the hospital bed as she slept, bandaged in several places that were bleeding profusely. Sonic smiled at her from his seat next to the bed, he was so worried that she wouldn't make it that he didn't sleep and hadn't left the room unless the doctor ordered it. Sonic sighed as he then thought about how he should explain everything to Trixie when she woke up, it was his fault that she was in here, the least he could do was explain.

That brought up another thought in his mind, would she accept him after that? By all means he was a monster, he'd hurt his friends, he couldn't bear to hurt her too.

During his own thoughts, he hadn't heard the nurse walk in to check on Trixie and giggled at the concerned gaze that Sonic directed at Trixie. Sonic jumped slightly and whirled around to see the nurse behind him and he sighed in relief, she giggled again.

"Don't worry, it's only me. I had to check in on the patient. Although, I'll admit, I wish my boyfriend was as caring as you." The nurse admitted as she commented on Sonic's concern for Trixie, realizing that she was implying that he was Trixie's boyfriend, his face went up in red.

"Gah! Hold up a sec! She's not...we're not...I mean-" He was interrupted by the nurse's loud laughter at his flustered state. "Oh? Then is she a close friend and you're too shy?" The nurse teased and Sonic turned away from her to hide his blush.

"It's not like that..." With a final giggle from the nurse, she walked over and checked the machine that Trixie was hooked up to, with a smile she nodded to Sonic who raised his eyebrow.

"She'll make a full recovery in just a few days, however..." The nurse's expression went downcast as Sonic tensed in concern. "She won't be able to walk on her own for a while as her left leg was broken, we'll be sending her out with a crutch. Can I trust you to be there to help her?" Sonic nodded without hesitation.

"I'll help her with anything she needs." Sonic said without missing a beat and the nurse smiled happily.

"I know you'll deny it again, but...I think you'd be a great boyfriend for her. Take care of her alright?" The nurse said softly as she smiled at Sonic, who blushed lightly and nodded. When she was at the door, she turned around and said, "She should be released either late tonight or sometime tomorrow, depends on when she wakes up and how well she can walk with the crutches, alright?" When she received a smile and a nod from Sonic, she left the two alone.

Sonic turned to Trixie and full on grinned, she was going to be alright! He was relieved. Now it was just the wait for sleeping beauty to wake up, Sonic blushed at the comparison and couldn't help notice how soft Trixie's lips looked at the moment. Honestly, he could just steal a kiss right now...

He shook his head and told himself, "I can't do that...I'd be taking advantage of her...but..." He looked at her lips again, one of the only parts of her body unwrapped and unconsciously began leaning in until his own lips were only inches above hers and he quickly pecked them and jerked away, damn, he couldn't help himself it was too tempting!

Chuckling nervously to himself, he continued watching her for when she'd wake up and hoped she didn't feel that in her sleep. Sonic sighed and inwardly kicked himself for this. If Trixie hadn't been with him, she'd be fine. He growled as he realized this was another example of his friends getting hurt because of him!

In need of air, he walked out of the hospital and went into one of the forest clearings on the outskirts of the village they were in. Sonic briefly remembered the name as something along the lines of 'Akane Village.' It was filled with really nice people who had pointed him towards the hospital without hesitation and he was grateful.

In the center of the clearing, he sat down on a large boulder and sighed as the wind ruffled wildly with his jacket and his hair as he stared up at the sky. 'I wonder what my friends are doing right now.' Sonic thought a little glumly as he relaxed himself before hearing Gramps call out to him.

'Kid. Get up, it's about time we started your training.' Gramps called out to him suddenly and slightly caught the boy off-guard.

'Now?' Sonic asked as to which Gramps replied curtly. 'Yes. Your friend will be fine so we should start your training now.' He said as Sonic slowly stood up and sighed before stretching, he asked.

'What's first, Gramps?' Sonic asked as to which Gramps smirked, which Sonic couldn't see. 'First. I want you to open your hand...' Gramps paused briefly and finished with terribly hidden amusement. 'Spin it as fast as you possibly can in a circle.' Sonic raised an eyebrow in response before chuckling to himself.

'That all? Piece of cake!' He followed Gramps's advice and spun his arm, but yelped when wind began condensing in it and imploded on itself, blowing the hero back and crashing through the boulder he was previously sitting on and lying on his back with swirls in his eyes. 'Gramps...the hell was that?' Gramps couldn't take it anymore and burst out laughing.

'That. My dear, dear descendant was the Sonic Wind and you won't be stopping until you master it, no matter how many times it blows up in your face.' Sonic sighed and got up to try it again.

He went through a tree this time.

The next day, the Retrieval Squad continued down a dirt pathway and came upon Star Light Zone. They walked into the bright, colorful playground, as usual there were robot parts littered through the area, but later down, something a little more than robot parts was in the path.

"What in heavens name is that?" Rarity recoiled from the disgusting pool of green goop that littered the area in front of them, she sniffed the air and instantly held a hand to her nose. "It smells foul! Almost like blood!" Tails walked up to it and scanned it, he scrunched up his face in confusion.

"Well, it is blood...but not from any usual organism! Something unusual held this." Tails summarized as Twilight walked up behind him and looked at the scanner as well.

"Yeah. It says that the readings are unknown." Twilight placed a hand under her chin in thought as she pondered the origin of this blood as Fluttershy spoke up as well. "Yeah, I-I've never s-seen b-blood like this f-from any a-animal." This was becoming very worrying indeed...

Rainbow walked up to it and growled at it. "Whatever it is we can't worry about it now. Sonic's ahead! I can feel him!" Knuckles quietly gave a perverted chuckle as to which Rainbow glared daggers at him before floating over the pile of blood. "Let's get going!" Sighing, they all agreed and followed after her, begrudgingly trudging through the bloody goop pile.

Sonic yelled in frustration as he glared at his hand as well as the many Sonic-shaped craters along the ground, trees, and boulders. What the hell was up with this move! It kept blowing up in his damn face! Growling in frustration, he swung his arm around again and felt the familiar feeling of wind condensing in his palm, before feeling the just as familiar sensation of wind blasting him away and into something hard and something painful.

He hated training. Really.

Picking himself up one last time, Sonic sighed in a calming manner before gaining a determined look on his face as he swung his arm in the rotation and felt the wind begin to condense and closed his eyes as he held the condensed wind and put all of his focus into maintaining it into his palms.

He slowly opened his eyes as he didn't feel wind blasting back in his face and marveled at the swirling mass of condensed wind in his palm. He gasped in amazement and grinned.

"I got it Gramps! I got it! Yes!" Sonic exclaimed in pure joy at the sight and grinned as he beheld his attack. Gramps smiled at the sight of his apprentice mastering one of his personal most powerful moves.

'Nice. Next step is firing it, that part's a lot easier than creating it. Just aim and fire!' Sonic grinned at the simplicity and aimed at the boulder he sat on before and fired the slashing wave of wind at the oversized rock.

It sliced clean in two.

Sonic grinned broadly and lifted his fists to the air and gave out a shout of victory as he leaped. He did it! Finally, no more smashing through stuff!

'Your training isn't over yet, trust me. The next part will be even more hellish, be ready.' Gramps told him as Sonic paled.

He put his jacket back on, he had taken it off during training, he sped off towards the hospital once again. He wanted to be there when Trixie woke up and he was damn determined to be!

He pushed past the doors to Trixie's room and was once again greeted with her sleping form. He smiled at her, seeing she hadn't woken up confused and alone.

He pulled up his usual chair next to her bed and simply waited for her to wake up, he had a feeling it'd be soon.

So he waited for another half an hour. Patiently.

Finally, after nearly dozing off himself, he noticed the mage girl in front of him began stirring. Her eyes fluttered open and were greeted by Sonic's, who smiled broadly at the simple action.

"About time you woke up sleeping beauty!" Sonic exclaimed excitedly, Trixie drowsily began mumbling a few things.

"No. You go pick up the kids today, Sonic...I'm too...tired. I'll reward you..." She yawned as her senses fully came back to her and she saw Sonic's tomato red face looking at her with his mouth slightly agape. Trixie raised an eyebrow at him.

"What?" Trixie asked before she saw Sonic slowly gain a smirk on his face.

"Rewarding me for picking up the kids, eh?" Trixie's face went up in flames at that statement and Sonic's next sentence didn't help. "You haven't even taken me out for dinner yet. I don't do such intimate thingsbefore the first date, Trix."

"Gah! You heard that?! How much did you hear?!" Trixie exclaimed in shock and embarrassment as Sonic's smirk broadened.

"Enough." Suddenly, his face went to serious. "Now, how are you feeling?"

Trixie looked at him as the blush died off and sighed. "Everything aches and...I can't feel one of my legs..." She uttered the last part in horror as she looked down at her legs and tried moving them and gasped lowly when her left leg didn't move. Sonic sighed and filled her in.

"Nurse says your left leg is broken and you'll need a pair of crutches to walk for a while, but she says you might be out of here by tonight or tomorrow, so get some rest alright..." He smiled at her and she sighed before looking straight at Sonic's face and seeing the utterly fake smile planted on.

"Sonic. What's wrong?" She asked curtly, whilst Sonic only shook his head.

"Dunno what you're talking about? I'm fine." She gave him an unamused stare and he sighed deeply as he looked away from her. "It's...my fault you're in here, Trix..." Trixie gave him her full attention at this point. "If...if you hadn't been with me, this wouldn't have happened! I should've told you that I'm a walking magnet for danger! Now you can't walk right because of me!" Trixie only narrowed her eyes at him and shook her head.

"No way. In no way is this your fault." Sonic was about to protest before Trixie put up her hand weakly. "Sonic, did you attack me?" He shook his head while looking away. "Exactly. You cared enough to save me and bring me here, I couldn't blame you for this." She smiled up at him but he just frowned.

"Yeah, but Trix, I-" He was silenced by the soft, feminine hand that held his while it rested on the bed. Trixie gave his hand an affectionate squeeze and smiled at him again as it fully reached her eyes that stared up at him with oceans of kindness.

"It's not your fault." She simply said as they remained in their positions, Trixie slowly reached up and placed a hand on his cheek and gently pulled him in for a kiss on the other cheek.

"Thanks, Trixie. I needed that." Trixie nodded before she closed her eyes and looked straight at him again.

"I need to ask you though. What happened to you back there? I thought I saw your hair turn black."

Sonic grimaced as he felt his heart sink.

Chrysallis stepped into the base of her companion as she carried the vial containing Sonic's pure dark energy and walked through the doors of the testing labs, where her egg shaped partner waited.

He smiled when he saw the vial. "Great job, Chrysallis. Now our ultimate weapons shall be unstoppable!"

Chrysallis grinned before it vanished and in its place stood a firm glare. "And you're sure I can rule all of the kingdom and defeat Celestia with this power?" Eggman gave his trademark psychotic grin in reassurance.

"You'll wipe the floor with that princess."

"Well...that was a transformation of mine..." Seeing Trixie raise an eyebrow for him to continue, Sonic sighed. "It...happpens when I get angry enough." Sonic grit his teeth at the thought as Trixie stared at him in deep thought.

"Did...did you transform because I got hurt?" Trixie asked as Sonic nodded with his head down.

"Yeah...I hate when my friends get hurt...it's the only thing that can piss me off so much! Especially when I saw you get hurt..." Sonic admitted as he turned from her and Trixie let out a small smile.

"So...that means you care that much for me? That's...sweet." Trixie said aloud without realizing and caused the two of them to blush bright red before smiling at each other.

Sonic spoke up again, "Hey...I think it's time I told you about why I'm on this journey."

So for the next two hours, Sonic told Trixie about everything that has happened since he first met Twilight to when he fought against the Sonic copies in the Metal District.

"T-They k-killed your little brother?" Trixie asked in horror as Sonic shook his head with a sigh of relief.

"No, but it was close. I'm glad Fluttershy healed him while I went berserk..." Sonic said with a downcast look on his face before continuing the story getting to Gramps.

"A...hedgehog ancestor living in your head? Trixie finds that incredibly hard to believe." Trixie deadpanned while Sonic sweat dropped.

"Figured as much, just don't be surprised when I 'talk to myself.'" Sonic stood, gently pulled his hand from Trixie's. "Get some rest. Doc says you'll be out soon." In a split second decision he leaned down and pecked her cheek before dashing out of the room in a flash, leaving Trixie red-faced and sighing dreamily.

Stepping onto the clearing he'd deemed his training grounds, Sonic consulted Gramps. "So, what's my task now?" Sonic asked as Gramps smirked in the mindscape.

'Remember the form you were in when you fought against Eggman in space?' He got a nod and continued. 'I want you to draw the power from the emeralds to transform into Super Sonic, no matter where they are in the world.'

"What?! I thought all seven emeralds had to be in one place!" Sonic exclaimed in confusion before Gramps chuckled at him.

'Technically, all that's needed is the energy of all seven. You just have to draw in the chaos energy from all seven and absorb, you'll do it. I believe in you.' Sonic thought for a moment before nodding with the fire of determination in his eyes.

"I'll do it!"

The next day...

Sonic sat still as he tried to concentrate and draw the Chaos Emeralds' energy to him. He grunted as he barely felt a slight tug on one of the emeralds, this was hard, he couldn't feel much coming to him.

Concentrating more intently, he could feel a little more coming to him but it definitely wasn't much, Sonic growled in frustration. Why did all of this training need so much patience? This sucks!

Opening his eyes, he slammed a fist down on the ground beside him. He stood up and began walking in the direction of the hospital once again. "Gramps! Why's all your training so difficult?" Gramps chuckled in response.

'Warned ya.' He simply replied as he heard his descendant growled. 'Just take a break for now, try again tomorrow.'

Sonic walked in to the sight of Trixie sitting up on her bed while talking to the nurse and signing some papers before standing up on her crutches. She looked up and smiled warmly at the sight of Sonic as the nurse from before smiled too.

"She's ready to leave now. You're free to go." Sonic nodded as Trixie hopped up to him on her crutches, Sonic frowned.

"Do you want me to just carry you?" Sonic asked as Trixie pondered over it. She nodded with a sweat drop.

"Walking like this is awkward..." Sonic laughed before taking her up bridal style and zipping out of the hospital and towards the exit of the city on the other side with Trixie laughing merrily at the missed feeling of wind hitting her face.

Sonic laughed with her as he said goodbye to the village for the last time and was gone the next second.

But as the hero and his mage companion left, a group of eight walked to the entrance of town, just missing the blue streak and dust trail left behind.

That's all.

Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Guess I should reveal that Fairy Tail reference from before.

Remember a few chapters ago when Twilight used a fire spell and the chapter after that Trixie used an ice spell and you know how they're rivals in the TV Show? Yeah, I think you know what I'm saying but if you don't, I'm referencing Natsu and Gray.

On a completely unrelated note, I thank ChappyTales for introducing me to the Lightning Flame Dragon Roaring Ost, I must've listened to it at least 20 times!

Anyway, enough of my rambling, see you all later and remember to review!
