A/N: So this may be the only update I put up for a while, work and life are keeping me busy but I hope this is enough for now.

The burning red orbs stared hard down at her before softening and the snow white beast shortened and changed into a man. Ranger offered a small, strained smile. Her downcast feelings were lost on her father. He held out a hand and Ranger slipped under his firm arm and he guided her away from the looming white walls. He cast one non-trusting glance over his daughter's head before walking with her to the makeshift camp. "What is bothering you?" Forthar asked, he may have spend little around his youngest but he knew when something was wrong. "Why do you refuse to talk with the Men? An alliance could easily be made if you just stepped forward." Ranger asked timidly. Forthar signed and smoothed down her wild dark hair. "The Men are easily swayed. They are an unfit allies." Ranger gasped at him and her father only looked on with a sad look. "That's not true! Aragorn, he always stays true!" She shouted and the few that were around them looked in her in surprise. She growled at them furiously and everyone looked away pointedly. "Aragorn is one man without a whole kingdom to look after. King always look after their own boarders before they look to others." Ranger thought of the King of Rohan. When he wanted to refuse Gondor help because the White City had refused to help in them in their time of need.

"Is that what you did? Refuse to help, and never got help in return." Ranger spit out and Forthar growled at her in warning. "What happened to us could not have changed, not with all the allies in Middle Earth." He glared at her with stunning red eyes and Ranger silenced under his gaze and looked down shyly. "Come here." He brushed a hand against her cheek. A warm sound built in her throat. She looked up under her lashes with dark orbs. She stared apologetic at him and the hard gaze softened. "I'm sorry, I have no idea what happened back then." She mumbled quietly. His warm hand rubbed her cheek and Ranger smelled the cool winter air on his skin. It was fascinating to smell and Ranger could feel embers of memories began to burn. "It's something commonly talked about." Forthar told her and took his hand away. Ranger's eyes zoned in the pale skin with sharp white talons on the ends. "Why do you look so different? Mara, Threy and I look nothing like you." She suddenly asked out of the blue. Wanting away from the serious talk they were having. If Forthar was thrown off by the sudden turn of the conversion he didn't show. He chuckled and shook his head. "I was the oddball of the family. You all take after your mother." Forthar laughed and sharp fangs peeked out from behind his lips. "I will see her. and the other soon, right?" Ranger asked with a hopeful look. "Of course. When we win the war." Ranger's face became sober at the thought of war. "Sometimes I hate war and other times I yearn for it." Forthar nodded and a hum. "Two different sides of the same person. Its balance you will learn. I think more time among your people will help with that. People that understand."

Ranger looked away from her father and down to the ground. "Father...I don't think I want to be among our people." She peeked at him from the corner of her eyes. He was staring at her with a hard gaze again. It was calculating look that Ranger feared. "I've...grown attached to people here." She fidgeted with her fingers. "You mean Aragorn." It was almost a growl, it was accusing. "You know, he is mortal and belongs with another." Ranger touched the Evenstar and closed her eyes. "I know." She said quietly. "So what? You are going to watch him and his wife. Watch them have a happy life and grow old together. He'll die before you are even considered an adult." Ranger snapped around to look at him with sad dark eyes. "Why would you say that?" She squeaked. Forthar angry look melted away and was replaced with a gentle one. "I don't want to see you hurt." He brushed away stray tears from her cheek. "Pain is a part of life, and I want to live." She said.

Light burned her eyes as the sun rose. Ranger squinted against it as she waited for Aragorn to wake. It would only hours from now when they would march to the Black Gate and fight the enemy head on. It was times like this when the human part was afraid and the animal part raved. She wondered if Aragorn ever felt like that. She didn't dare ask one of her siblings. She had a feeling she wouldn't like their opinions. The door to the room behind her opened and Ranger turned to greet a sleepy eye Aragorn. His dark hair was ruffled and stubble covered his cheeks. "I hope you didn't wait out there the whole night?" He teased. She blushed a bit and turned away from him. She forced herself to scoff. "Please! I have better things to do Aragorn then wait around for you." Aragorn ran a hand through his hair and it tamed some of his wild curls. "So what did you do last night?" He asked. "I spent time with my people." She mumbled and started to walk away but the Man caught up with her and matched her long strides. "Did you convince your father to speak with me?" He asked eagerly. Ranger clenched her jaw and her talons bit into the palms of her hands. "Yes." She stopped and turned to Aragorn. "He thinks an alliance between us would be fruitless." Ranger refused to look at him as she spoke. "What reason has he to think that?" She peeked up at him and shrugged. "I can think of nine." She whispered quietly to herself. "I don't know." She spoke aloud for him. "But after the war is done. I think he plans to take back Gilneas on his own." Aragorn's blue eyes saddened. "We would no longer have contact with each other." Ranger sighed and nodded. "Yes." She fidgeted with her wrist. "Here." She pulled off the necklace. "I got it fixed to its original state."

She held out the chain with the sparkling green gem. She stepped up close to him and reconnected the pendent on his neck. The Evenstar sat next to her white gem around his neck. Aragorn touched the green jewel. "Do you want your's back?" She stared at the moon shaped jewel she had given to him for a long moment. "No. Keep it as something to remember me by." Ranger turned away and blinked away tears. "I have to go get ready, and you should do the same." She walked away swiftly and left a sad and confused Aragorn behind.

Confused, let me know!
